I noticed that even after I nuked my computer, some settings, like the min and max of my windows page file, were still the same despite my reset. | Weird problems with keyboard and mouse Posted: 06 May 2020 07:13 PM PDT So the other day I was having issues with my keyboard and mouse. It would stop working in the middle of games. I ended up reinstalling synapse since both my keyboard and mouse would stop working. Fixed. But now, when I restart my computer. And I mean go and click restart from the start menu, the peripherals stop working completely. They will light up. I hear the sound notification if. I plug them in or disconnect them. But no functionality other than lights. However, once I hit my power button for 10 seconds and restart my computer that way... they work. This is aggravating cause my game is requiring a full cycle restart. And it won't count if I just hit my power button for 10 seconds. Any ideas?? [link] [comments]  | ||
| Windows 10 update clearing files Posted: 06 May 2020 01:40 PM PDT My mother in law had an update pop up when she was going to shut down her PC. When she went back to boot up the computer all her files were deleted. Her browser was cleared out and it ended up creating another User account. I tried to delete the User but it doesn't show up on the accounts page. Now she tells me that once a week it comes up that she needs to do an update, and the same thing happens with everything deleting. I honestly do not know what to do to fix the problem. Has anyone gone through this? Does anyone know what I could possibly do to fix it? I'm to the point where I'm just going to reinstall Windows all over again. Thank for your time. | Posted: 06 May 2020 01:12 PM PDT I'm sitting here playing a causal game of siege and it constantly keeps tabbing out every 10-30 minutes something steals focus and I got no clue what it is, I've tried downloading a focus logger to see what might've have caused it but nothing was logged when it happened so I'm kinda confused.. | No keyboard/mouse support when enabling Secure Boot in BIOS Posted: 06 May 2020 03:19 PM PDT I've tried enabling TPM and Secure Boot in my bios for the security benefits, but for some reason, as soon as it's enabled, my keyboard and mouse (and possibly all of my USB devices) stop working completely, leaving me unable to log in. They work completely fine in the BIOS, and the lighting on the mouse and keyboard both turn off as soon as Windows begins loading, so it's definitely a problem with Windows specifically. I'm leaving it turned off for now as a workaround but I'd ideally prefer to have it enabled if possible. I'm using a custom-built PC, with an Asus Prime X570-Pro motherboard, if that makes a difference at all. If anybody knows what might be causing this, it'd be massively appreciated! | Windows cannot find(open) images. Posted: 06 May 2020 05:05 AM PDT Whenever I open a picture, I get an error message popping up that windows cannot find 'filename', make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. I used google, none of the solutions applied/worked. What happened before was that I had an avast warning for a rootkit (probably false positive) in some photo.exe file which I quarantined and then restarted my computer (with windows update). I tried to check the Virus Chest (Quarantine) of Avast but there is nothing (I think it also showed an error message with access denied when I actually had tried to quarantine the file). I also tried to Repair and then Reset the Windows Photo App, but it didn't fix the issue. Note I can still open pictures with Paint but its a bit awkward, I could download a third aprty program, but I am not sure if this current phenomenon is a security risk of any sorts, so I'd like to get it fixed. [Edit] If I just start the app itself, it looks like the window is opening, but it's black, and it disappears immediately, it shows up in the taks bar for a split second. [Edit2] For now I changed the default program to "Windows Photo Viewer" which works, but it wasn't the default. 'Photos' was the default, which i assume is part of the windows app store, and it apparently isn't damaged of any sorts since repair and reset don't show any issues, but it nonetheless won't run. | Geobook won’t play nice with W10 install usb Posted: 06 May 2020 02:19 PM PDT So I'm trying to nuke my Geobook using a bootable usb I know works from setting up another laptop. The Geobook detects the usb in bios but flatly refuses to run from it and goes straight to W10. The default bios setting is safeboot off and there does not appear to be a legacy setting. I have checked inputs, muting, volume and the sound control panel. Windows detected an issue in the diagnostic and told me to restart my computer, but nothing changed. | How to change the ipv4 address? Posted: 06 May 2020 01:23 PM PDT Saw alot of pages, all say the same. Go to control panel, network, change adapter options propeties, then propeties of ipv4, and then your desired ip address. I do that way, but #1 i lose connection to internet, and #2 i cant even connect to the bloody thing with that new ip. What am i doing wrong? I just put subnet mask and gateway from default "ipconfig" command, but ip address different to what i want it to be. And yes it has a server hosted in it so it should in theory load up the page. | Windows Camera Frame Server using all memory Posted: 06 May 2020 04:25 PM PDT I just got a new Lenovo Yoga C940 2 days ago, and it seems that when I use my webcam for meetings, my computer gets very laggy and sometimes my webcam will freeze. I checked task manager and noticed Windows Camera Frame Server using from 7gb to 11gb of memory. Is there any way to prevent this memory leak? It won't let me end the process without shutting down. | Migrating windows from a HDD to a smaller SSD M.2 drive Posted: 06 May 2020 06:40 AM PDT Hi guys, I've recently been made aware that I can install windows on my M.2 drive (Samsung EVO I believe), the issue is the SSD is only 500gb, and my old HDD is like 2TB. How would I migrate my windows over to the M.2 drive? I'm pretty certain all the stuff on my current HDD is more than my SSD can hold right now so I dont know if cloning is possible? In a perfect world I wouldn't want to lose anything as I have a few games and family pictures on there but I'm happy starting from scratch if thats whats required. For records sake this is my first time doing it so be gentle. But now it is as if it isn't installed even though it says it is. I went into setting and normally there is a gaming icon and that isn't there anymore i noticed.
