(US) $900-$1300 Looking for an all-around laptop. good performance, light gaming. Posted: 31 Mar 2020 08:53 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: USD $1000-$1300 Are you open to refurbs/used? Prefer not. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance is top priority. 2a. Battery life 2b. Build Quality Form factor not as important, just a conventional laptop. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not very. I won't be hauling it around so I don't need a heavy duty laptop nor an ultra thin. Just want to carry it from room to room to hook up to different screens/monitors. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15, but am open to 13. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Nothing in the list. I do some programming work: Microsoft Studio, R, Python, SQL, etc., so would like performance there. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? FIFA, if anything. Interested in being able to at least pick up games and try, but don't need top notch graphics. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good touchpad and good keyboard are a plus. Touch-screen is a nice to have as I sometimes bring it to the kitchen, but I've read it could be at the sake of performance? Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Looking for an all around laptop that I'll mostly use to play basic games, surf the web, watch Netflix, and do some programming/database stuff. I'll hook it up to my monitor and maybe my TV. Fast performance is my number one preference. The laptop will mostly be in the house so portability isn't a huge factor, but I will take it out occasionally. [link] [comments] |
£900-£1100 laptop for video editing, graphic design and programming Posted: 01 Apr 2020 03:37 AM PDT Looking for a laptop for graphic design such as Creo parametric and SketchUp, as well as programming such as bbedit, python, and some modelling sites such as unity. Posted: 01 Apr 2020 04:55 AM PDT As a software tester I'm saving for a laptop that feels high quality. I used to have a MacBook Pro from my previous employer which was amazing although it's not convenient for my job to work on Mac as the application are usually targeted towards Windows. From my current employer I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 330s which works fine but I hate the trackpad and I never use a mouse. What laptop can you recommend that has: Intell 5 256 GB at least 8gb Great to work with the trackpad. Preferably thin. Screen can be 13 or 15 inches. Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Need monitors, dock/hub and keyboard for XPS 9570 setup Posted: 01 Apr 2020 04:36 AM PDT The setup will be used for work.I want 2 monitors 24inch each with daisy chain support so I can supply them with a single cable. I have the MX master v3 and looking for a tenkeyless low-profile keyboard (Logitech is preferred) Budget is around 1k-1.5k USD can be more if a suggestion is making more sense My XPS specs i7-9750H with 1050ti and 32GB RAM PS. looking for a good standing desk but that will be after finding the essentials [link] [comments] |
Help to decide Workstation Laptop for 3D work Posted: 01 Apr 2020 04:22 AM PDT · Total budget and country of purchase: 4500€, Spain, no problem buying online · Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Windows · Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A · Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Photoshop, 3ds Max, Maya, ZBrush, Cinema 4D, Blender, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, Marmoset, Unity, Unreal Engine. · If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A · Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I am a 3D artist, game designer and getting to VR development. My current desktop computer its already too old to run heavy projects on the programs mentioned above and I plan to move abroad so I have in mind to buy a powerful and long-lasting laptop for work. I have plenty of doubts about it, some people say for example Nvidia Quadro RTX 5000 16GB is better than 2080it for rendering these programs, then suddenly others just suggest picking a 1060 and it makes me more undecided. What I found under my criteria and short knowledge is the MSI WS65 9TM Mobile Workstation, Inte Core i9, DDR4 64GB, Quadro RTX 5000 16GB GDDR6 (https://www.msi.com/Workstation/WS65-Mobile-Workstation/Specification) but I'm not 100% sure if it will be a good choice for 3D work and VR before classic gaming, also if it's too overpriced and there are other providers that would do the same with other brands. Camgirl laptop at a reasonable price Posted: 01 Apr 2020 04:07 AM PDT Hi there! Title pretty much says it all - I'm looking for a reasonably priced laptop (I would like to spend no more than $1500 AUD at the higher end if possible) that will handle streaming and video editing really well. I would like the best possible stream quality, and by my understanding this falls on processing speed?? (please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm so out of my league here) A decent number of inputs would be really helpful. An SD card reader isn't a dealbreaker but it be really useful. Laptop shopping has been really confusing for me because the last time I did this it was wayyyy more meat and potatoes - I don't want or need a touchscreen, 360 folding yoga stuff, or fingerprint/eyeball security measures. I would really love to just be able to pay for performance and not gimmicks. Side question - do I need decent graphics for my purposes? Or would integrated/default cards do just fine for streaming and video editing? They seem to be pretty exxy and if I can do without I would prefer to do so. I don't plan on using this laptop for anything but work. PS I don't care about webcam or mic quality on the unit, I use external hardware, and I would have it plugged in the whole time so battery life doesn't concern me. EDIT: I only just noticed the form, my apologies: -Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Up to $1500 AUD -Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes -How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance is paramount, battery life doesn't matter, size and shape is not important if it does it's job really well but I do prefer larger screens in general -How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important. Home use. -Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Larger is better but I would sacrifice it for performance in the budget. -Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I use DaVinci Resolve, OBS, and I stream using browser-based software. -If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Irrelevant -Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? On the contrary, I would prefer no touchscreen, finger-print reader, optical drive, or other tertiary features because I would like the best possible performance for my budget. I tend to use external peripherals so N/A. I also use an ethernet cable so the quality of the wifi adapter is also not important to me. -Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I think I covered it above but I really jsut need good processing, streaming, and video editing. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

I don't need a system. These choices are cheaper by 1400PLN (~350 USD) and that I could put towards a used desktop solution (I can get 8700k/1080 for around 3000 PLN/ $750). It's an option I'm considering as I'm unsure whether any laptop in my price range can deliver 1440p FPS in WoW/Path of Exile and it's sort of a compromise. [link] [comments] |
A laptop with a great screen and which works smoothly when I want to google something Posted: 31 Mar 2020 10:16 AM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Hi, I have not used a laptop in last 7-8 years and I am 25 so I am open to both mac and windows. I want a laptop which has a great screen because I would be staring at it for a very long duration and also would that does not stutter/hangs. I intend to use it for 5-6 years atleast so won't mind spending more if a product warrants. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Apr 2020 02:06 AM PDT First of all, I'm aware that true 4K editing will require a 4K monitor, and whilst there are a few knocking around these days on laptops, I'm happy to have an external 4K monitor for this, so I really just need a laptop that has the specs to handle, and render 4K pretty nicely. Having spent the last few days crawling the internet and dismissing the obvious MacBook and Dell xps 15 (apparently not as amazing as suggested by reviewers) vibes, I started having a look at cheaper alternatives in gaming laptops. I've just came across this here and was curious as to whether this would be able to handle 4K video whilst editing and hooked up to an external monitor: ASUS ROG Strix Hero II GL504GM Any other suggestions on laptops around this price or any input would be greatly appreciated! Is cheap gaming even possible? Posted: 01 Apr 2020 02:02 AM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: I don't quite know. I will be buying in Sweden using SEK, and I'm in the situation where I'm considering if a purchase is reasonable or not. Cheapish, but not to the point where I'm going to be disappointed because it feels cheap? More than 10 000 SEK will hurt, more than 15 000 SEK is not an option. Less is better. Are you open to refurbs/used? I would prefer a new device but if there are better options I'm open to considering them. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? It's all about the most performance for the least money. It can look awful and be heavy, it will almost always be run with a power chord so battery is not an issue. I don't want it to break due to being put on a shelf between uses, but I won't be carrying it around in a bag or even take it outside of the house much. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not at all. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I feel like 17 inches is way better than 15.something. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I'm going to use it mainly for games. I use an Xbox for the heavy lifting, the pretty games with the beautiful views. The laptop will be used to play games that don't work well on consoles (strategy games and some RPGs), and as backup when someone else is using the TV. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Mostly strategy games (Total war, Europa Universalis) and RPGs (Pillars of Eternity, Baldur's Gate 3 when it gets released). Shooters and RDR2 goes on the Xbox, it would be nice but not necessary to be able to play them on the laptop as well Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I will be using an external mouse so a good touchpad is not important. An okay keyboard that won't break from regular use? Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm trying to find what the type of laptop I want could reasonably cost. [link] [comments] |
Suggest a gaming and coding laptop Posted: 31 Mar 2020 03:52 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
50-75k inr
No
Performance is the most important for me, battery life second, build quality third.
Fairly important, since I'll be taking it with me when I travel.
Around 14-16 inches
I'll be gaming, programming, and doing light video editing and photo editing. I'll use premiere pro, Photoshop, some text editors for coding, and obviously browsers and some games listed below
Overwatch, fortnite, Minecraft (with shaders), rainbow six siege, doom (the new one, but not eternal), GTA v, far cry 4 and 5 are some of the games I'd love to play, and at around 100+ FPS for the less demanding ones like mc and overwatch, around 45-ish for the more demanding ones
Good keyboard, good touchpad, good microphone
I'm currently using a 2012 MacBook Pro as my daily computer, it's gotten really slow now. My current top choice is MSI GF63, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything better. I only want windows computers, and it should last for around 5 or 6 years. Thank you :) EDIT: I'd also appreciate a 120Hz screen, but at the end of the day, if it increases the price by a lot, 60Hz feels like home. [link] [comments] |

I will be carrying it with me quite a bit, I don't want it to be too heavy... Do you have a preferred screen size? I don't have a preferred screen size Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Sony Vegas, Adobe Premier, After Effects. Games like Witcher, Red Dead Redemption, Mount and Blade, Shooter games... If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I want my games to be atleast on medium, medium/high setting would be great Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Tossing up between these 4 laptops – open to being corrected Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:13 AM PDT After a bit of research, I'm currently considering the below laptops primarily, but know very little and so am open to suggestions. If these laptops seem good, I'd appreciate some help choosing between them. HP ENVY - 13-aq1065tu, Inspiron 14 7000, Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 Black Edition Laptop (Dell currently has a deal that includes a monitor, headset, and mouse for free, which would be pretty handy), Asus ZenBook UX434, HP Spectre x360. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Performance most important, second is build quality because I want something as durable as possible. Battery life not very important.
Light photo editing/graphic design. Usually just on Canva but occasionally Photoshop/InDesign. Also RekordBox
Good keyboard is important, so is reliable build quality and ideally a USB A (3.0) port.
I'm going to start learning to code soon and learning about cyber security for my job and personal interest. I know very little about both now so I don't really know how demanding they are. Thanks for everyone's help in advance :) [link] [comments] |

Laptop for trading and video editing. When will we see more laptops with Ryzen 9 core? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 11:44 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Hi all, for the stated uses I am eyeing the Dell XPS 15 with i7-9750H and 32gb of ram and the Asus ROG Zephyrus with the Ryzen 9 4900hs and 16gb of ram. I find the Asus design slightly off putting and 16gb of ram don't seem to be very future oriented. Nevertheless, which of the laptops would you recommend me? Or should I wait for other laptops being released If so, is there anything great in the pipeline? Many thanks! [link] [comments] |

Lenovo C940 15 RAM based question! Posted: 31 Mar 2020 10:42 PM PDT After finally deciding on my first laptop being a lenovo c940 yoga 15, I've stumbled upon another problem. Theres a deal going on for a core i7-9750h with 12gb of RAM and 512 GB ssd for 1360 USD. Now my question is would it be better to get the non-sale customized I7-9750H WITH 16gb of RAM and 256 GB of ssd for 1500$. Is ram more important that ssd in the long run? FYI the c940 ram is soldered so I cant add more later. Will there be a big difference in 12gb than 16gb for gaming? They both have the nvidia gtx 1650 GPU. I need help I'm ordering it soon. Posted: 31 Mar 2020 10:38 PM PDT Hey everyone, I'm looking for a laptop that allows me to game, cad, and is an all around good laptop that I can use in a wide range of situations. Also I'd like one that doesn't look like a transformer. A little about me, I used to have a surface pro 3 which I used extensively through college and grad school. Unfortunately, it's starting to really deteriorate after ~6 years and, since I'm graduating, I thought this would be a perfect time to get a new laptop that doesn't restrict me as much. I loved my surface pro 3 but simply put it couldn't do everything I wanted it to do and, if it did, would end up being very glitchy. The surface was great for note taking and general computing but running CAD software and other intensive software for engineering or gaming would really show it's limitations I've been doing some research and have seen that these 4 all have good aspects but unfortunately each had a con that significantly plates in. I'm a little computer savvy in that I kind of know what's going on but don't have in depth knowledge (basically the equivalent of taking an intro class and kind of knowing the basics): Razer blade 15: It's a nice laptop and has a lot of good specs (from my limited knowledge) and is very discrete (especially the silver version) but it seems very pricy and I heard razer has horrible customer service and quality control and doesn't have that great of thermal control. MSI GS65: Very nice looking laptop and has specs to back it up, but again I've heard that the customer service/quality control is pretty bad. Eluktronics MAG-15: Probably the laptop I'm leaning towards the most. It has great hardware like the GS65/Razer 15, has pretty good customer support and quality control, looks simple, and has an amazing battey life. What I've heard though is that the thermal performance is not as good as it was initially made to be and that there is light bleed on the screen (not sure how reliable this is but I've seen numerous counts). Lenovo Legion Y740: The cheapest one that has good requirements. I ha e heard though that the trackpad and keys are not the greatest and I'm not the biggest fan of the plastic foot at the back. If I'm going to be sticking with a laptop for 4 years then I'd want to love it for those 4 years. These are just what I've been looking at and am open to suggestions on what to add to/remove from the list since I'm not the most experienced in laptops. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Preferably under $2000 Are you open to refurbs/used? No How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance, build quality, then battery life, however I'd prefer all of these How important is weight and thinness to you? It would be nice to have a thin laptop that weighed less but as long as I'm not carrying a behemoth of a laptop I'll be fine Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15 in max Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Although I'm probably not going to CAD at this time, I am a mechanical engineer and would like to have the ability to CAD in the future (mainly solidworks). Also I'd like to get into gaming If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? It's been a while since I've games since I don't have a desktop and my surface pro was incapable of running any games, so I don't have any specific games in mind but I'd like the laptop to cover a wide range of games at a respectable level Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Doesn't look like it screams "gamer". Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'd like a laptop that is all around a good laptop that won't limit me. Also I'd like a laptop that would last me for a while. Finally, I was also pretty recently considering a PC. I know PCs will be inevitably the best performance-wise but having two separate computers that I'd have to manage seems like a hassle, I like the idea of having an all-in-one device. I'm not sure if there's solutions that addresses the problem and, if there is, I'd love to have one. However if that's the case, I wonder if it's even worth it to have an expensive laptop (although it does allow me to take that power anywhere I go). Again, I got this idea maybe today and haven't thought too much about it but I thought it'd be useful to include this point in my write up. Thank you guys for taking the time to read my post. Sorry if it was a tad long. If there's anything else you need to know that would help, I'd be more than happy to answer. [link] [comments] |

Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $300-400 Are you open to refurbs/used? Open to buying used. Was looking for a thinkpad on eBay but difficult to decide which is best for the price. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I'm looking for good batter life and build quality. Ideally something that isn't slow when running. Mainly going to be used for light web browsing and college. How important is weight and thinness to you? Fairly important that it isn't heavy as I will be carrying it throughout college. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Ideally under 15" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Nope If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Not going to game Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good display and a touch pad would be nice but not necessary Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. N/A [link] [comments] |

Australia (AUD) <$1,700 - Primarily for working from home Posted: 31 Mar 2020 10:24 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Are you open to refurbs/used? How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? How important is weight and thinness to you? Portability is important though as I will take the laptop with me to client meetings in future (prefer it to be more portable than durable if I had to compromise). Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Will likely make use of a wireless mouse and possibly a keyboard while at home. Need easy connection to print and scan via my home MFP (yet to purchase). Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Day to day tasks aren't too specialised (mostly used for: Emails, office suite, multiple browsers, salesforce and the odd video conference). Ultimately I'm after something that is easy to setup and use, reliable, and that will last me a few years at least. I'd like to have decent HDD/storage (I typically store most data on my external HDD but do prefer to use localised storage for certain client files etc). Prefer to avoid apple products if possible. MUST ship to Australia (I'm in a major city). First time visiting the sub, thanks in advance for any and all suggestions! [link] [comments] |
