    Looking to upgrade from OP5T: OP7Pro / OP7tPro versus OP8 event mid-April

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 08:10 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

Have been a 5t owner since its release. It is my first OP phone (coming from iOS) and I was immediately sold. Now it is getting slower and less reactive, and I finally managed to break my screen by dropping it for the Nth time.

I'm looking to buy a new phone and was wondering to which extent it would be smart / dumb to go for the premium model of the 'previous' OP i.e. OP7Pro or OP7tPro in light of the fact that OP8's release is approaching fast.

Some thoughts and doubts that have been crossing my mind so far:

    1. Is it reasonable to expect a OP7Pro / OP7tPro price drop when they announce OP8 mid-April? If so, by how much? May have to wait with my order just yet.
    2. No 3.5 mm jack sucks, but almost all new phones seem to have it and both 7 and 8 do it.
    3. Full screen on the 7s versus punch hole on the 8.
    4. Not quite interested in paying the 5G premium for the 8 knowing how slowly the network is being rolled out where I live (and across the globe I gathered from other threads here).
    5. Probably not worth it to pay the premium for the 8's 120hz screen if the 7's 90hz screen would be a massive upgrade for me anyhow.
    6. Will the 7's OS be updated regularly still, once the 8 has arrived?
    7. Etc...

I'm far from an expert so I don't even know which one out of OP7Pro or OP7tPro I'd be going for. But I do know that I love my 5T and want to stay with the OP brand.

Thanks for any thoughts you experts may have on the above. Really appreciated!

    8 vs 8 Pro

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 06:35 PM PDT

People have recommended the 8 over the 8 Pro recently because it will be better value, but I really really want blue and I don't know for sure how big the spec difference will be. What do you guys think about the differences between the 8 and the 8 Pro (as far as rumors and confirmations go atm)?

    Networked Locked T-Mo OP7 Pro

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:47 PM PDT

Hey guys! I recently purchased a OnePlus 7 pro from a tech reseller online the IMEI of this device is clean but it is currently Network locked to T-Mobile. T-Mobile says they cannot unlock the device unless I can give the T-Mobile account last name of the person who previously on the device.is there anything I can do to unlock the device to use with my carrier? I tried unlocking the bootloader but OEM unlock is grayed out under developer options.

I can return the device for a full refund but I figured I would exhaust all my other options first.

    How reliable are OnePlus phones?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 01:52 PM PDT

In a couple months I am going to be starting residency (training to be a doctor) and I need a new phone. Having a reliable phone so I can always be contacted is vital. From the leaks I have seen the OnePlus 8 Pro looks to have almost all the things I am looking for in a phone (minus headphone jack but seems like a lost cause). The only thing I am concerned about is getting a phone that dies early or has constant problems. The other phones I am thinking about are the Galaxy s20 (too expensive), the new Sony Xperia, and Pixel 4 (largest is 128gb and I am using over that already on my LG V30 with SD card). Just curious what everyone's experience with OnePlus has been in terms of reliability. Thanks!

The hole-punch on the OP8 doesn't bother me

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 01:44 PM PDT

Being a user of the OnePlus 7t, I don't really see what the big complaint with the hole-punch display is. In the long run, without a mechanical camera, the durability of the phone will probably be better and will last longer. The teardrop notch on the 7t has really been perfect for me, but I would love to hear everyone's reasons for hating the hole-punch.

Audio playing out of Right ear only OP7P, Warp charge not being detected Oxygen 11 Beta

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 01:16 PM PDT

New to Oneplus family, successfully flashed my T-Mobile OP to an international version. However, I decided to update to the latest build and am having a few issues.

Using Oxygen updater I am on build OP7Pro_O2_BETA_11. I have tried 3 different dongles with 2 different pairs of earphones and every combination results in audio only coming out of the right side.

In my settings if I move the sound balancer to the L side I will get no audio. Anyone else on this build having this issue? Is there a way to revert to a stable build without losing all my data?

Oh yeah Warp charge doesn't work at all either? I know bugs are to be expected for beta builds but these ones are difficult to live with. Looks like I may need to factory reset boys. Thanks.

OnePlus 7 pro android 10 microstutter fix

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 08:08 AM PDT

Ever since the android 10 update, OP7 pro has had micro-stutters all over the place. This is particularly apparent in the recent apps screen or any place where there is some animation + scrolling. I tried the open beta releases as well as the stable releases and even factory reset the phone multiple times to no avail. The phone would run perfectly smooth 99% of the time but that 1% of stutter was really irking me, especially because a major selling point of the phone is smoothness. And it's not just me, as I've spoken to many others who are reporting the same.

The issue: What's happening is that OP7 pro comes with multiple settings for resolution and refresh rate. By default, the resolution is set to auto shift between 1080p and 1440p. And by default the refresh rate is set to auto shift between 60 and 90Hz. Both of these depend on the app in focus and the content in front of you. Now, in some places they clash and shift too often (like the recents screen) which creates frame drops and judder. They probably programmed the resolution switch and refresh rate switch independently and tested so as well.

The fix: Set the resolution to a fixed value: 1080p or 1440p. I prefer 1080p since for 1440p PenTile, 1080p doesn't look much worse than 1440p (it's a huge PenTile subpixel rendering argument). Immediately, all the stutter will be gone and the phone will be smooth as butter just like on android 9.0. Plus setting to 1080p gets you some additional battery life.

If you're experiencing similar issues on your phone, I hope it helps out you too.

‘I need a new android phone’ breakdown?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 03:46 PM PDT

After 4 1/2 years with my trusty Xperia Z3, I think it's time for a change. At first I looked at every possible premium smartphone on the market and concluded that:

    • I don't want to switch to iOS (although I do own an iPad, but I think my phone should always be an android for the freedom).

    • I'm also not considering Huawei due to the google services ban.

    • Realme and xiamoi I feel mainly make budget to mid range phones and I frankly don't trust them for a phone that can last me a couple of years.

    • Sony is not the same as they were >5 years ago, especially with them producing good phones, only 'good' with very hefty price tag, so I'm also not considering their phones.

    • Samaung's devices were first to catch my eye, until I learnt that if you're not living in China or America you're bound to suffer with the exynos cheapset , I live in the Middle East where Samsung phones arrive at a way lower price for some reason, 730$ unofficial price for the s20+ exynos chipset, 4g and 8 gigs of ram only. It was not an option for me for the aforementioned reasons.

    • This leaves oneplus, I always kinda liked their phones especially back in the day as they were niche and 'cool' in my eyes. I looked into the 7pro which is gorgoeous, affordable price which was 600$ USD at some point where I live, I was kinda hesitant as the oneplus8 is around the corner and the battery on the 7pro had mixed reviews, also The sheer size of the OP7P was a disadvantage as I like smaller, easier to carry devices. Not to mention the average at best camera. Oneplus8 is 2 weeks away and I'm considering the non pro variant, but frankly, with all the leaks, the pro has 120hz, QHD+, wireless and reverse wireless charging, IP rating, way better camera hardware. These are massive advantages over the normal OP8 and Frankly, I think it's not worth spending anything over 600$ just because it's matching flagships' prices now and having a very useless 5G tag, especially for me, as my country don't even have a 4G. Anyway, I hope the Oneplus8 series have major improvements not just specs wise, particularly in the camera department with affordable prices to live up to their previous slogan, true "flagship killers".

One week with the Oneplus 7 Pro

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 06:28 AM PDT

So, a week ago I created a post asking if I should upgrade from OP 6 to OP 7 Pro. I ended up getting the phone. Here is my experience with the phone after a week.

    1. Love the bigger, notch-less screen! I watch Netflix on my phone quite a lot, and it is a whole new experience.
    2. Hate the curve and glare!
    3. Battery life improves after tweaking battery optimization, I usually get 6-7hrs SOT
    4. Somehow, the gesture navigation is worse than my OP 6, it is hit-or-miss like 25% of the time comparing the way I used to the OP 6. Maybe it is because of the phone case I use (Spigen Tough Armor) has raised border that prevent me from swiping from the bottom.
    5. Bigger phone means harder to use with one hand. I think I will get used to it.
    6. Somehow, Android Auto works right of the batch with my Honda Civic 2018, whereas I have been struggling to get the OP 6 to work.
    7. Installing screen protector with the adhesive glue is a bitch.
    8. Camera is subpar, I heard that I can install Gcam to improve picture quality, but it requires rooting to get all the functionality, not sure if I want to do that.
    9. 90Hz is amazing, I don't think I can go back to 60Hz.

Overall, definitely worth $450. Edit: bought T-Mobile version that is currently on sale and flashed international firmware.

*HOW TO* Activate OnePlus 7 Pro 5G on Verizon - @VZWSUPPORT PLEASE READ!

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:21 AM PDT

After hours of tinkering and hold music with Verizon, this is how I got incoming SMS working on my OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. This is only for the Unlocked Sprint GM1925 and European GM1920, as the IMEIs are loaded in Verizon's system for the T-Mobile or other international models

    • First, any carrier-unlocked Sprint that have the Sprint, Boost, or Virgin bootanimation likely need the OnePlus software restore tool to Erase Sprint Carrier configs, you'll likely get stuck at activation with a SIM that isn't for the Sprint network if you don't this!

Factory-unlocked OP 7 Pro's and European 5G models can omit this step!

    • Backup any existing data that you don't want erased (I use Swift Backup), as MSM resets your phone to bone stock Android Pie.

    • This is the official tool for restoring, made by OP. Prior to running the software restore tool in EDL Mode, tick Erase Carrier: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=4349826312261604268 If you want to get back to Android Q, you can OTA update again after MSM.

    -Insert your Verizon SIM

-Power off your phone completely with the USB disconnected and click start in the tool,

-Hold your volume keys and insert the USB cable plugged into the PC into the phone.

-Allow the software to run for about 5 minutes, when it's done, the Sprint bootanimation will be gone!

    • Call Verizon. Ask for Level 2 Tech Support. They're still going to bug you for account information, first.

    • Verizon hasn't whitelisted Sprint or the Euro 5G's IMEIs so you'll want to have a factory unlocked IMEI ready.*

This is the item for the rep to enable: Feature Code 732 - CDMA-less Roam Tier Override

Sidenote: While you're at it, you can ask the rep to double-check that they have HD voice calling enabled. That feature was on for me since activation.

    • The rep may have to "engage external support" which means that they create a request to a different department to enable the feature. My phone took about 2 hours, after adding that feature, to start receiving SMS. Be aware, I did not have a backlog of texts stored on their server. My inbox started at zero. Hopefully, you have them mostly backed up.

    • Every so often, I used my Google Voice# to send a test message. In the meantime Verizon has a web app for SMS should fine in the interim. The desktop app doesn't seem to work, so just open a tab to the browser-based app. There was no SMS backlog for that app, either.

    • In the delayed time until I started receiving SMS, I called to bug tech support again and it said that my "phone number is reserved for internal Verizon business usage." I took this as something was getting done on the backend.

To any Verizon support reps who can submit feedback: PLEASE EMAIL WHOEVER YOU NEED TO to add the Sprint and Euro 5G OnePlus 7 Pro IMEIs to your whitelist, so we don't need a donor IMEI!

Oneplus 7 Pro screen popping noise

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 05:19 AM PDT

So I noticed this the other day when I had my phone on my bed and I leant over and put my thumb on the fingerprint scanner. It was quite a firm press and the screen made a popping noise when pressed. So it's been making the popping noise when firmly pressed above the fingerprint scanner part although it stops if pressed a couple of times. The scanner itself works absolutely fine and unless you press firmly on it you wouldn't know anything is wrong as theres no popping during general use and touching the scanner like you usually would. Is this normal/common or is something wrong?
