The 8 pro screen issues arent acceptable on a phone that costs 1k Posted: 23 Apr 2020 04:34 AM PDT Seriously, how did OnePlus even mess up this bad? They justified the cost with the internals, but on a phone that costs 1k the amount of people having issues seriously cant be acceptable. If the phone would have costed like 700-800 then it would be slightly more acceptable, but for 1k hell no. [link] [comments]
My experience on upgrading to OP8 from OP3 Posted: 23 Apr 2020 01:54 AM PDT My OP3 has been great for the 5 or so years I'd been using it but it was finally time for an upgrade. I've ben using the OP8 for just over a week now. Bought the pop-up box for £600 and that price seems completely reasonable to me. The phone is great, you get a lot for £550 and sure it's a bit more expensive than previous OnePlus offerings but in the grand scheme of things £550 is still pretty cheap. Now, I love the phone but something felt wrong. I've only just noticed there is no notification LED! Of course that makes sense there's only a camera in the cutout but I loved the notification LED I thought it was great and I'm definitely gonna miss it :( I'm not the biggest fan of the curved edges but they're proving to be less of an inconvenience than I thought they'd be. I was also a bit apprehensive about the lack of a headphone jack but the Bullets Wireless Z are a joy to use. The cameras are a bit lackluster so if that's what you're after I'd suggest looking at the Pro or a different phone entirely. For me, I don't use cameras that often and I couldn't care less about wireless charging or IP68 certification so the extra £200 for the Pro just wasn't worth it for me. OxygenOS keeps getting better and better and it continues to be the best Android experience I've had on a phone. tl;dr - the OP8 is great and it's a very welcome upgrade from my OP3 [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Apr 2020 02:04 PM PDT Firstly, let me say I'm writing this with my tail between my legs - I've been defending one plus to the hills about the display, thinking I had a good panel and the others are just faulty panels. As much as I don't have the green colour issue, I have noticed something when comparing with my iPhone XS max that I was literally just posting for sale thinking all was good. The blacks at a low brightness about 15-20% have this horrible red colour to them. I'm not going to harp on about it - I know there are already posts about display issues (various) and its already been bought up. I will return the phone at least allow OnePlus to put right the issues and would happily consider another one upon reassurance the issues are resolved with the display. This is not to knock OnePlus, but to hopefully provide others with another way of checking the issue, if you are not seeing the green colour issue (I wasn't and still don't) :- Link to video I used - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2vlelJDl9k Link of OP8 Above My Iphone XS Max - https://imgur.com/a/onlUeRw [link] [comments]
I bought a second OnePlus 8 Pro - [Display Issues] Posted: 23 Apr 2020 05:41 AM PDT As some of you may already know there are reports of various display issues on the new OnePlus 8 Pro. A phone that supposedly has an "A+" rated display. I released a poll yesterday to try to gauge how widespread these issues were: Poll Here I was shocked at the results as so far from almost 500 votes, over 50% of device owners are reporting that they are having display issues, so it's clear it's not just a few unlucky units. I received my original device in a pop-up box directly from OnePlus UK. Because RMA's can take a long time (and i'm still waiting for OP support to reply to me based on my issue) I decided to order a second phone from Amazon UK to compare. It arrived this morning and the first thing I did was to check the manufacturing date and there's 9 days between them so it's safe to say they're not the same batch. I immediately fired up some display tests and there it was the same issues that were present on my first unit... This Amazon unit was actually worse in some areas of the display and better in others. But it was clear that both the phone's have issues. What does this mean? It could be one of two things:
Until we hear official word from OnePlus I'm personally not going to risk holding the devices past the return window, just to wait for a "fix" as it's possible they will reject RMA's based on this issue claiming it's a non-issue. *UPDATE\* [link] [comments]
OnePlus 8 series display issues: apparently OP is aware of them Posted: 23 Apr 2020 09:37 AM PDT Hey, I just talked with someone from support and apparently, OnePlus is aware of the screen issues on the 8 / 8 Pro and they will release a software update "soon" and talk about it on the Community forums. Here's a screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/qNrWYpL Although I'm not sure if this is true or if the chat support workers are just told to reassure us by answering stuff like that... :/ What do you think? Screen problems : can we make a single post ? Posted: 23 Apr 2020 03:32 PM PDT For clarity purposes, I think mods should create one post in which everyone with screen issues can come. Because right now the sub is turning into a spam of "my OP8 Pro has screen issues", and everybody makes the same statements. If we wanna have more clarity and if we wanna be able to help as many people as possible, I think regrouping everything would be better. What we know OnePlus said that can help people having these issues : "The so-called "green-tint" issue will be fixed in the next OTA, and an update in May will deliver a fix for the crushed/clipped blacks, though there's no word yet on whether the other issue with the display lines around the cutout can be fixed." Been wanting to update my OnePlus 3 for a while now. I knew a price hike was coming so I did this Posted: 23 Apr 2020 07:10 PM PDT I have no idea how much is in it, since I've done it for a few years now. So Im not sure if I should go for the 8Pro now or wait for the 8T iteration. Having an OP3, the update is long due, but mine can easily hold up for a year. [link] [comments]
Pixel vs. OnePlus: Software Updates? Posted: 23 Apr 2020 01:49 PM PDT Hi all, Long-time pixel user here - addicted to stock android, and addicted to getting monthly updates. My Pixel 1 is finally on its last legs, so I'm basically deciding between a new Pixel phone (4a, 5) at some point, or the OP8/8+. OP phones have much better specs, but can someone give me an idea of how good the software updates actually are? I.e.:
There's something uniquely satisfying / reassuring about getting constant updates, so it's been my biggest hurdle to leaving the Pixel line. Any info appreciated :). (There's also the separate question of stock Android vs. OxygenOS, but most things I've heard suggest that OxygenOS is pretty good?) [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 01:53 PM PDT Chinese version. Regarding flashlight circle below the camera array: I've just noticed that the two LEDs are not perfectly centered (as I thought they should be). Hardly noticeable, but It's a tiny bit more to the left, so the right LED is closer to the middle. Is it something to be worried about (repair/refurbishment) or am I just being paranoid? Don't have any friends who owns 1+7 Pros to compare, so reaching out to you guys. [link] [comments]

This is what OnePlus has to say about the 8 Pro's screen issues Posted: 23 Apr 2020 01:26 AM PDT So I'm one of the many OP8 Pro early adopters experiencing screen issues with tinting, burn-ins and an inconsistent color rendition, especially in dark modes. I've contacted OnePlus to find out what I could do about it, with these screen pictures as examples (as per their request): Their response is that there's no manufacturing defect on the device, and that this is normal AMOLED behavior, and I was instructed not to let the screen show high contrast images for too long. Since the retention issue is precisely in the status bar, I wonder what they meant by this, given that it's naturally black on white or white on black (inherently high contrast). Their response can be found here: Searching the web I discovered some people got their problem acknowledged and were promised their complaints were forwarded to the developers' team, and some, like me, got dismissed. Hope they'll get their ducks in a row soon enough, and fingers crossed this is fixable with a patch. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Apr 2020 01:49 PM PDT So my new job requires me to have access to an Android phone, and will cover $600. Now I could use two phones and daily drive the iPhone. But it feels like a hassle, with charging, cables etc. I used a Nexus 6P for two years after my iPhone 4 got too slow. So I'm not new to the droid experience. Albeit a bit lackluster as the battery decided to crap out early. Swapping phones every couple of years is not really my thing either. And my two iPhones have delivered so far. After reading some reviews and past experiences. The One+ devices and it's launcher has piqued my interest. And I'm a bit torn between the 7T, 8 and 8 Pro. (7T pro is not avaliable). Curve, notch or punch I can live with. 7T seems to check most boxes. Though the camera housing is not exactly eye pleasing. 8 has a bigger battery, is newer but that macro lens. Why? Is the default camera still better than the 7T? 8 Pro is big, 90Hz should also be an option, cameras are great. Will cost me $200. And with the reported screen issues a bet. What I like most about my X are the navigation gestures, battery life, screen and camera. So I'd like the device to be close, but still an upgrade. Wireless charging and 5G are cool and all. But I still haven't charged my X without a cable. I've been jumping between 7T and 8 the past couple of days, (but always with the thought f* it. Go big on the Pro). This post came out a bit longer than anticipated. And I guess all three devices will be an upgrade from the X. Apart from the obvious iOS/Android 10 differences. [link] [comments]

Another op 8 pro with display problems Posted: 23 Apr 2020 01:31 PM PDT This post was originally created by my friend u/tcborek2002 but his kept getting deleted so I thought I'd upload it: I read about the issues, and sadly mine has them too. I have an 8 pro 256gb marine blue, bought in Europe, fabricated on 10 April. Pictures: https://imgur.com/gallery/UgHraAw I have green spots (with my eyes it is more noticeable than on camera, and black lines in my screen. I really love this phone, but this makes it unusable. If this doesn't get fixed in a software update I will return it because it is very noticeable. All my apps are in dark mode so in the evening I constantly see big green glowing spots. (Why did no reviewer on YouTube notice this?) (My phone also gets pretty hot when just browsing the internet) [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 01:15 PM PDT and its not a bad device. apparently its a known "issue" with the 7T. thread on this sub from around the 7Ts launch. XDA threads discussing it and even figuring it out. so if you're thinking about grabbing a 7T take this into consideration. i love this phone, but kinda tough when i was already downgrading from 256gb. how big is android 10 on the 7 pro, 7T pro, 8 and 8 pro? Native messaging battery drain Posted: 23 Apr 2020 05:01 PM PDT I recently went from pixel 3 xl to OnePlus 7T (best decision ever) and have been setting my phone up. I downloaded Google's messaging app and made it the default. After a couple of days, I was checking the battery usage and even though I haven't opened or used the OnePlus native messaging app, it has been draining my battery. I went to disable the app and got a warning about Android not operating correctly if I did that. Does anyone have some insight or advise? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Apr 2020 10:21 AM PDT Hello, I recently bought an OnePlus 8 to replace my OnePlus 6T but I immediately noticed that OnePlus seemingly removed the navigation gestures I have on my oneplus 6t (swiping up from the bottom to go back) and now navigating is a hassle because I keep summoning the effing google assistant. I also can't use many apps like Reddit where I need to swipe from left to right or right to left to access the menu without going back (without having to click on the hamburger menu of course). and according to this: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/navigation-bar-gestures-oneplus-8.1216873/ Are the navigation gestures just gone? Will it be added back or should I just return my OP8? [link] [comments] |
