What customizations should I add onto ThinkPad X390?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 06:47 PM PDT

I happened to stumble upon the X390 when browsing for a laptop to shop for. I took a look and then decided to customize and buy the laptop as I thought it was a good one. I am planning to add fingerprint sensor, but I am unsure of other customizations I should do. I am planning to use this laptop for home and school use, and I want to keep costs below $1000. Below is my current confirmed customizations as of right now:

(I want to add touchscreen and IR camera but I'm unsure whether those upgrades are worth it. Are they worth adding for their price?)

intel core i5-10210U windows 10 home 8 GB RAM 256 GB SSD US English Keyboard Fingerprint Sensor

    Long-Lasting, Solid 2-in-1 <$1500

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 06:07 PM PDT

Hey, everyone! I need help with buying a 2-in-1 laptop. I will mainly use it for general schoolwork like running Word, PowerPoint, Excel, LoggerPro, Chrome, and coding for one of my computer science classes. I also use Photoshop quite a lot in my free time and plan on doing photo and video editing for the next two years for a digital media course. I play League of Legends, Minecraft, and Sims 4. I'm looking for something that will last me a really long time and has a good keyboard, maybe a dedicated GPU if that's in my price point. I was looking at the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15, but it doesn't have touchscreen capability. If I were to compromise on that, I would get it so maybe that helps with a recommendation. Are there any touchscreen or 2-in-1 laptops that have almost amount of power in my budget? Thank you in advance!

Anyone annoyed by the 10 minute commenting wait?

Poll question: Anyone annoyed by the 10 minute commenting wait?

I feel like the people who are asking for help will get their questions answered efficiently if there was no 10 minute wait between each new comment. I don't think this subreddit needs this setting when there are six moderators.

Where to buy laptops in NYC

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 04:56 PM PDT

    Hi,

I'm thinking of getting another laptop. I'd like a high performance one with preferably i7 with 16gbs of ram and decent graphics.. Purpose of the laptop is programming/linux/hacking/running work related software that takes a bit of performance...

wondering where I should look to purchase laptops with good deals? I'm not a computer guy and have always just used bestbuy... Is this the best place to go? or should I be using other sites and/or physical locations in new york city?

    many thanks,

I want to get a laptop that is connected wherever I go, but can also run multiplayer 3D games and editing software. Any recommendations? Or do always connected laptops not have the capability to do that

[GER][1000-1200€] Looking for (Gaming) laptop recommendations

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 12:04 PM PDT

Hello there, I am looking for a recommendation regarding a new laptop :)

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
      1000 - 1200 Euro
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
If it's a good option/good quality I might consider buying refurbed
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Should be 15'', no need for touchscreen, would love to have decend performance because I want to do gaming and CAD work on it,
build quality should be on the better side
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
Around 5-6 pounds is okay, I need it to still be somewhat mobile
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
As stated above, I would like it to be 15''
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
darktable, Photoshop, Vegas Pro 14, League of Legends, Minecraft (mostly modded), Rainbow Six Siege
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I want to be able to play RainbowSix:Siege with Ultra Textures at 120 fps, my current laptop plays it with about 60.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
The keyboard needs a num pad; no need for rgb keyboard, white backlight is more than enough
prefer having just an ssd over hdd + ssd,

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
Please don't recommend Dell or HP, had bad experiences with them in the past. Looking to make the laptop dualboot with Linux as well.

Want to buy my first laptop and I have no idea what's happening. Use will be for university, YouTube/netflix, web browsing, and some photo editing. Not much gaming, maybe some emulators but nothing extreme. What do you guys reckon of the spec sheet provided. What would be the laptops limitations

New laptop, not sure what to get

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 03:28 PM PDT

At a 1500 dollar budget the best I can get is either the eluktronics mech-15 with am i7 9750h and a 2070mq or a laptop with an i7 10750h and a 2060 maxp (unless it's a super but they're not really advertised). I'd say to get a new rog zephyrus g15 but they're super back ordered and I'm not trying to wait at all. I think the g14 is still a thing im just not sure I want a 14 inch, already kinda compromising on the 15. Would like some advice
