Is there a Windows alternative to Cockpit? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 06:49 PM PDT On Linux, there is a utility called Cockpit: Does a variety of things, but my main use case for this is monitoring memory/CPU load - Cockpit makes this easy because all you need is a browser to point at it. I've looked around, but can't verify if there's a similar tool for Windows. Does anyone have any suggestions? (I don't think Cockpit will run natively on Windows. There is some discussion about whether it will work with WSL, but I am not sure) Edit - should be remotely accessible. And preferably support Windows 10 as well as Server. [link] [comments] |
nvme SSD no longer shows in Windows Posted: 31 Mar 2020 06:59 PM PDT Hey guys, My Curial P1 1tb ssd was working fine and then after a reboot it no longer showed up in the system. It's not in disk management but the bios recognises it. It was assigned as my E drive and now it's gone. Any help would be appreciated as most of my data is on there. Thanks Edit: it doesn't show in device manager either but it shows up in windows recovery mode. I think it's a firmware issue :/. [link] [comments] |

How's everyone's experience been with the "Your Phone" App? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 04:06 PM PDT I'm trying to figure out if it worth the battery drain or not, seeing that it requires your laptop to be out of the battery saver mode, which mine is in literally 100% of the time unless it is on the charger. Posted: 31 Mar 2020 02:24 PM PDT I am desperate here. I have tried a bunch of different things to keep this shit from happening. Someone please tell me WHY my WiFi keeps randomly disconnecting and give me any fixes that you can possibly think of so I can stop this from happening. [link] [comments] |
Windows 10 home licence for donated computer Posted: 31 Mar 2020 04:33 PM PDT Please excuse if this is not the right place to post this. If you have a suggestion of a better place to post please let me know. I am donating a computer to a local school for students in need of technology in the current situation. It's bare and will need an OS. Windows will be best as that's what most students know. Was wondering if anyone knew of any current offerings from Microsoft on 10 HE on the cheap for donating/school use etc. I was thinking the Ebay route but I don't want the end user to have any problems in the future with updates etc. Thanks for your help. My commited memory is up to 110GB on a 16GB ram system. Posted: 31 Mar 2020 02:00 PM PDT Hello guys, I got some problems. I started having a bunch of issues with memory recently. What I mean is that I get out of memory, app crashes and sometimes the file explorer even goes not responding. I did some troubleshooting with my physical ram to see if its not broken or anything but I haven't seen any problems. I tried putting the page file size on automatically, nothing. Custom, nothing. System managed, I got no issues for a few days, but then it started happening again. I attached some screenshots with my commited memory, and it's up to 110GB on a 16GB system which is not good if i'm correct. I would love some tips if possible, thank you. [link] [comments] |

Cursor invisible/not showing up in a window Posted: 31 Mar 2020 06:15 PM PDT Hey, so a friend of mine has had a problem a couple of times where her cursor isnt showing up in windows, but its visible on her taskbar and home menu. the first time I fixed it by getting her to close the window and reopen it(she isnt super tech savvy) but its now happened again with the same fix not working. it appears she can still click on things in the window(it definately happened with google chrome, not sure about anything else) but the cursor is missing. I unfortunately dont have any more details because i havent been able to look at it in person, but i was hoping someone might explain what causes it and a reliable solution. [link] [comments] |

Files open in Internet Explorer Posted: 31 Mar 2020 09:05 AM PDT Hey y'all! When I had to open a file that I downloaded, I accidentally asked the computer to open the file with utorrent. Then I tried to stop it from doing that, by making it open the app in internet explorer, but I would love it, if it would go back to the default mode, before I clicked on uTorrent. Anone know how to do that? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Mar 2020 11:34 AM PDT I'm trying to download a program on my Surface Pro 7. It is 85 GB, I only have 75 left. I was planning on buying an SD card. Will this work with such a large program? Am I able to download a large program to the SD card? Or do I have to download a program to my main drive? And will downloading such a large program harm my Surface Pro in any way? How do I stop onedrive from trying to sync folders? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 05:10 PM PDT I have read some other threads on here, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get this stupid thing out of my file explorer. At the very least, is there a way to make it so my documents folder doesn't show up as a folder it's trying to sync? Thanks, [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Mar 2020 04:49 PM PDT We are running a server-based application that connects via LDAPS to a new Windows Server 2019 Active Directory domain controller and recently have realized we have event ID 5152 occurring in the Security event log, which is reporting packets are being dropped to TCP/636. The associated filter run-time (based on running "netsh wfp show state" and reviewing the wfpstate.xml file) shows the associated filter is "Port Scanning Prevention Filter". The associated layer ID is "Associated layer ID is "Inbound Transport v4 Discard Layer". Since we're not doing any port scanning and the port is not exposed to the Internet, we are concerned that legitimate traffic is being dropped and intermittently affecting the application. The application is currently working as expected in general fortunately. I would like to know more about what triggers the "Port Scanning Prevention Filter". I'm curious if others have experienced this? My next steps otherwise are running a packet capture on the server (with Wireshark or netsh) or opening a case with Microsoft. I have verified that TCP/636 is listening on the server. I have reviewed these articles: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3044882/port-scanning-prevention-filter-behavior-in-windows https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2586744/disable-stealth-mode Thanks. Can't sigin into Word on Office 365 to save files onto Onedrive Posted: 31 Mar 2020 04:40 PM PDT I think I've had this issue for at least a month didn't care until yesterday. When I attempt to sign in it accepts my email address then gets stuck in a loop when loading up the password tab. similar to this https://youtu.be/kFPnzJZsOro . I have deleted the credentials and editing the registery editor for office and windows. restarted my laptops at least 20 times. uninstalled and reinstalled at least 4 times. deleted the cache data off all my browers. Out of office365 apps and Onedrive I can sign in but can't when its comes to the office 365 apps [link] [comments] |
Windows 8 Laptop Password Reset Posted: 31 Mar 2020 04:23 PM PDT Hey Reddit, so my sister forgot her login for her HP Envy laptop running Windows 8. I have listed my process below in trying to reset the password:
I am now stuck on how to enter the computer. I am not a computer person so I have a lot of trouble understanding other options like using the command prompt. If anyone has had a similar situation and can help guide me, I would appreciate it so much. If there are other subs that I can post my issue to as well please feel free to comment them below. Thank you [link] [comments] |

Use a Windows 10 Student License for 8.1 instead? Posted: 31 Mar 2020 11:17 AM PDT I just got my license for using Windows 10 for Students. The problem is: My laptop is quite old, I don't think it will run Windows 10 all that well. So I was thinking if I could use the Product Key I have to install Windows 8.1 for Students instead. Is that possible? Thanks for reading! Have a nice day and stay safe! [link] [comments] |
