Posted: 03 Mar 2020 12:15 AM PST I bought a msi Ge75, i7, 2080 and I like it a lot but the battery is small. it is bad to use the laptop with the charger all the time I'm afraid it will get damaged soon, but I like them. I do not know if to return it and buy another one, I wanted one that had a lot of battery like the gs 65. I heard that it is good but it gets very hot and it bends, mine does not heat up almost. Is it true that laptops are ready to be connected all the time and why do they have huge chargers? [link] [comments] |

They'll get some outdoor use. Need to be reliable enough to last until I convince him we need some sort of IT - 6 to 12 months with low risk of problems/good manufacturer support? IT consultant was recommending Elitebook 830 G6's, but was rejected b/c of the cost. Looks like the Lenovo t480 could work on sale. Thanks for the help [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Mar 2020 03:02 PM PST No conditions, need the highest specs ever. Specs for reference- intel core i9-9900k/i7-9750h, at least 16gb DDR3/4 ram, at least 256gb fast HDD or SSD, a bit looser on graphics. I want to know if it's possible. If not, tell me what is possible with a $1500 USD budget. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Mar 2020 04:58 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: $1000ish, US Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specs. Will be plugged in 99% of the time How important is weight and thinness to you? Irrelevant Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Larger is better, but not necessary Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Gaming, mostly recent games If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I play all sorts of games, both extremely recent and very old. Maximum settings at a minimum of 60fps would of course be preferable, but I can live with moderate settings at 30fps. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? None Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm completely and absolutely clueless when it comes to PC gaming. I'm looking for a versatile laptop that can, at the very least, run even the most recent games at at least a minimum of 30fps on any setting. The games I mostly would be playing are Overwatch, PC exclusives like FTL, strategies like Stellaris that are a pain to play on console, and games with good mod support like Fallout and Elder Scrolls, so it may be overkill to aim for a PC that could play something like RDR2 or The Witcher 3 at maximum graphics. Any help at all would be appreciated, whether you're recommending exactly what I need or telling me how stupid I am :p [link] [comments] |

Mac user considering windows laptop Posted: 03 Mar 2020 04:19 AM PST Hello so I am a high school senior looking for a computer upgrade for college. I am looking for portable laptop that has a good build quality good track pad and a nice looking screen (no need for 4K) some other things that would be nice to have is a long battery life and better IO than my Mac book pro. +2 usb A 1or 2 usbC and HDMI. I do some CPU and GPU intensive workloads but not all the time. I mostly use the laptop for research and school. Thanks, tell me what you have in mind [link] [comments] |
Looking for a laptop to do some quick browsing, work and watch stuff Posted: 02 Mar 2020 07:00 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: Up to U$500. Depends a lot on the specs tho, I'll explain more about what I need and then if we can bring this value down it would be awesome. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. More about the specs then battery life. How important is weight and thinness to you? I would like something portable that I can bring anywhere. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15" screen but would give up this to have a better battery life or spec with a cheaper price. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I'll use it mainly for watching movies, netflix, work (excel, onenote, outlook, power point) and some light image editing mainly for presentations using Photoshop if possible. I want something I can carry around easily and browse the internet or watch stuff in times of need. Games are ok, but my home pc is my main guy. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I'm growing old :( I need something to help me. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I love Apple's touchpads, I don't know if any other brand was able to achieve such result. Good keyboard would be nice since I'll mostly use it to write. Don't care about cd drives, but need something to upload my photos. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. The need to buy a laptop came up now that I'm traveling for a month and I need something light that allows me to browse websites, see where I'm going, access my e-mails, work with spreadsheets, watch a video or serie (the battery needs to last a little long for that) and maybe use photoshop for light editing. Looking for a gaming/content creation laptop with good color gamut Posted: 03 Mar 2020 01:28 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: It should be lower than 25.000 Norwegian Kroner Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I preffer a laptop with decent good battery life. Specs should be: at least GTX1660TI, i7 9th gen, and minimal 16GB RAM with oportunity to upgrade. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not that inportant Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10 Home or Pro. Mac OS can work Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Favourable 17" but not bellow 15" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Adobe Lightroom, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects and Blender If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Cities Skylines, Minecraft sometimes and soon Flight Simulator 2020 Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Keyboard keys should have some space between them. Numpad is recommended. Flash SSD should be 1TB. Minimal 512GB, and if so it should have extra drive of 1TB. If it's HDD it has to run 7200RPM. USB slots should be 3 or more. SD card reader is liked but it should upload 1GB of storage in 30s or less. Faster is better. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. The specs above is just my thoughts and im open for some compromises such as lower battery life for better performance. Im looking for a laptop that have a good color gamut for my photography and videography. sRGB and Adobe RGB should be very good for color accuracy. I have been looking at the Norwegian version of Mag-15 (Komplett Khameleon P9) and I liked it's laptop configuration, but was unsure if the screen was any good for content creation. RTX graphic is a bonus but not that important as I've heard it isn't so good as on Desktops. I intend to use the laptop for photography and videography. But I also want to game on sparetime. Posted: 02 Mar 2020 06:42 PM PST So I'm due a Laptop upgrade as mine is feeling very outdated considering it's age. I've been looking around and I feel I've found a good deal? Ideapad S340 for £499, the specs are below: Windows 10 S AMD Ryzen 5 3500U Processor RAM: 8 GB / Storage: 256 GB SSD Graphics: AMD Radeon Vega 8 The main uses would be internet browsing, light (possible) editing, light gaming such as minecraft, iTunes and media watching. Possibly also streaming using the Xbox One app to my Laptop... But yeah, would you say this is a good deal and good enough specs to run say Minecraft smoothly on medium graphics? If not could you recommend a laptop of similar specs around the same price point? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Looking for a durable laptop that I can just throw in my bookbag. Posted: 02 Mar 2020 08:55 AM PST I want the most basic use laptop, 8GB of ram at least, under 3.5 pounds (less is more important to me), and any size screen above 12 inches. I don't care about looks and have been eyeing used thinkpads for their durability. I am someone who wants to not consciously think about how I place my bookbag constantly or cringe if I accidentally bump into something with my bookbag (my college has narrow doorways and I drive small cars). I don't want something that will scratch up the bottom if it is accidentally pushed forward on a desk (I'm looking at you, surface products), and don't care for aluminum casing. I almost prefer plastic for how much more of scratching they seem to take without showing obvious signs of it. I'd prefer to spend under $500, but willing to push for $650 if necessary. I really just prefer something lightweight over all else, but 8Gb of Ram and a good quality screen is a must and I really do not want to spend much for something that I really don't care much about. I have a gaming PC at home and this is the take to school computer for me. [link] [comments] |
Searching for a laptop I can use for writing and casual gaming Posted: 02 Mar 2020 04:42 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: around 1000 usd, purchasing in united states Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specs for the money and/or good battery life. How important is weight and thinness to you? I would choose better performance over weight, but if there's a laptop with both I'd happily accept. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. My current laptop, an 8 year old macbook pro retina, has a 15" screen, so something comparable or smaller is preferable. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I mostly play Minecraft, Binding of Isaac, Don't Starve, Hollow Knight, etc. I'd like to be able to install more Minecraft mods because my current(suffering and dying) laptop absolutely cannot. The extent of my photo and video editing is photoshopping my friends faces onto absurd stock images for their birthday. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? As mentioned above, there are a few games I play/want to play/want to improve my experience of. I'm not a gamer, so I'm not sure of exactly what settings/fps I would like, but I do know I'd like something better than what I currently have. Minecraft is very prone to lag on my current laptop. I tend to build complex structures, so I sometimes use shaders and nice resource packs, something that lags my current laptop heavily. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard would be nice since I mostly use my laptop to write. I do not like touch screens. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. My brother was actually the one who suggested I get a new laptop. Unlike I, he seems to know more about computers, and is very much a gamer. I feel it's because he wants to play video games with me but I adamantly refused to replace my macbook, which had been dragging itself along for eight years. At the moment, my laptop's headphone jack is broken, it crashes constantly, lags intensely for no reason, drains its battery in 2 hours, etc. I would like a new laptop that...does not do that. I mentioned my brother because he recommended the ASUS Zenbook 13 Ultra Slim Laptop and the Acer Predator Helios 300 and I would like inputs on his suggestions if possible. Thank you for your help. Looking for a "creator's laptop" at reasonable weight Posted: 02 Mar 2020 05:40 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: No strict budget. I'm living in Singapore (Southeast Asia) but happy to purchase online. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Given that I'm not on a budget, I'm basically looking for the best specs in the weight class & requirements listed below. How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight is pretty important. Ideally it would be at 3.00 lbs or less. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Looking for 14"-15" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Primarily photo editing -- Photoshop/Lightroom -- and video editing (Premiere Pro). I likely won't be doing a lot of gaming on it. But if I do, it might be Overwatch. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? 60FPS at the highest possible settings would be nice of course. But, again, gaming isn't the primary concern. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Hopefully a laptop without any (serious) overheating issues. From browsing through some online recommendations, I'm currently eyeing the following shortlist:

Suggest a Reliable laptop for $1500 Posted: 02 Mar 2020 11:15 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: $1500 - $1800, United States Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I prefer traditional form factor, battery life is not the most important thing for me, and of course best specifications for the money. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important at all. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux: Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Mid-range screen size: 14-inch, 15.6 inch Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I mostly will be using my laptop for Data Analysis (Using STATA, SQL, R), light programming (Python, Javascript, Java); Light video editing(DaVinci Resolve); Some photo editing (Lightroom); I would be gaming, Yes; Lastly, I would like to have the ability to use OBS. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Mostly light games such as League of Legends, Civilization VI, Europa Universalis IV. Would love a 144 Hz or 120 Hz panel tbh. Would like to play these games with at least medium settings. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?: Three things matter to me the most: 1) Reliability ( I have had to change three laptops in the past two years), I am willing to spend the cash but I would love for this laptop to be up to date and stick with me for sometime. 2) Screen Quality ( I would prefer the highest screen quality I can get, of course it wouldn't be the best for $1500, but the best possible. 400 nits and above is a plus). 3) Good Keyboard ( quasi - important since I might be looking into connecting my laptop to an external display and using an external keyboard). Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Other than Reliability, Screen Quality does matter to me a lot. FHD kind of gets to me now, and I would really prefer QHD or 4K if I can get it in the price range. If not higher resolution, then higher brightness and/or better color accuracy would be a plus. TL;DR: Looking for a reliable laptop for $1500 - $1800 to do some light gaming, data analysis, and light video editing. [link] [comments] |

Laptop Recommendation XPS vs HP Spectre x360 Posted: 02 Mar 2020 11:03 PM PST Hello! I need some guidance from the community. I'm a college student looking to buy a computer for productivity, light gaming, and light/heavy use of lightroom and photoshop. I'm currently in a pickle between what to choose. Below are my two top options that I have been eyeing for a very long time, although I am open to other options. Which of the 2 will be better for my usage? Looking for best bang for my buck for my preferred usage. Currently trying to decide between the two models. Costco is having a sale for Dell XPS New 13 in 2-in-1 for 1,299.00 which contains a 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, i7-1065G7 Processor with a 1080p display. Programming/image processing etc. hobby+ work. Posted: 02 Mar 2020 10:18 PM PST I just ordered this and I'm having serious doubts. I do a lot of programming as a hobby, some of which involves image and audio processing and can be pretty heavy. I'll simulate some physics stuff that can take time, but at work more than at home, and honestly I never understood the need for the very fastest for the most demanding work. I want using it to be super snappy, but whether something takes two hours or three doesn't determine whether I can do that thing, whether it takes days or months does, and that's not determined by one computer or another. 16gb ram rather than 8 or 12 is a given. Laptops are not for heavy lifting anyway. Occasionally I'll use cuda, but I have decided to do that exclusively on the desktop instead of messing about with an inferior GPU that makes the laptop way more expensive. Still, I am conflicted on two points. First, should I have gone with an i7, and second, is this going to be a comically large screen and something I don't want to pull out in a meeting and dominate the desk space? These two questions make me think of five situations. 1) Smaller screen is better anyway, i5 is plenty fast, get a 16.6" i5. 2) ...but the big screen would be nice for when I want to watch videos or show people images/videos in a group setting, go with the i7 3" i5 3) the big screen is in fact silly, put that screen money into the i7, maybe with a bigger SSD. 4) the big screen IS cool, and you know you want an i7 for no particular reason so cough up the money and go all out. 5) I don't know what I'm talking about and you can set me right. I just get so indecisive when there's no right answer. What do I do here? [link] [comments] |
