Chaos Rings is 10 years old this year, but you can't play it...

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 01:03 PM PDT

... so let's tell Square Enix we want it back!

    The Gist

If you're on their mailing list, Square Enix is sending around a survey gathering opinions on everything from their response to COVID-19 to your opinion on the best game of all time. There's also a box at the end to add your own comments, which I used to request an update for Chaos Rings I, II, and Omega so they can be played on modern devices again.

    How to Help

If you didn't get the email and want to help out, you can take it here and mention Chaos Rings too!

If you don't want to take a survey, the customer support page for Chaos Rings on Android is still up, oddly enough. There you can send an email directly, which I also have done.

    Chaos What?

If you're not familiar with the series, Chaos Rings was an early smartphone JRPG released in April 2010 with ports made to iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and even PlayStation Vita. It was incredibly ambitious for its time, bringing a full-fledged story with multiple character arcs and using a pre-rendered background style reminiscent of PS1 Final Fantasy games. The soundtrack was so good that Square Enix released it by popular demand.

The series was developed by Media.Vision, famously known for other games like Wild Arms, or more recently, some Digimon and Valkyria Chronicles games.

Not only was Chaos Rings impressive for its graphics and scope, the story was surprisingly deep and emotionally engaging for a mobile title. It quickly spawned a prequel, Chaos Rings Omega, and a sequel, Chaos Rings II, which dramatically expanded on the universe. Personally, it's one of the most influential series I've ever played, ranking right up there with much bigger titles.

Much later, Chaos Rings III released in 2016, but it's more of a spiritual sequel that only heavily alludes to past entries. That one is still compatible with modern Android and iOS devices.

    What Happened?

The original three games in the series were designed to run on very old versions of Android. When Google switched from the Dalvik runtime to ART, compatibility was broken with many older games, unfortunately including Chaos Rings. Rather than update the series, Square Enix simply pulled it from sale. A similar event occurred on iOS, the Amazon app store, the PlayStation Mobile store, and, well, we all know what happened to Windows Phone.

As it stands, the only way to play the game today is by emulating an Android 4.x environment on a PC, which I wrote about a few years ago. Since then, I've regularly received messages about my preservation efforts, leading me to believe there's still an audience for this series out there.

My hope is that with a notable event like a 10th anniversary, we can direct those messages to Square Enix instead and get enough attention for a proper re-release!

If you miss this series or would like to experience it for the first time, please consider joining me to make your voices heard!

Are there any other Android games like Game dev tycoon

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 03:35 PM PDT

I'm looking for other games like game dev tycoon.

I'd prefer if the didn't have micro transactions. I'm happy to pay if it's a one time thing, I'm pretty sure that's what game dev tycoon did.

It also doesn't need to be about designing game, but can be about anything

[Request] Looking for games like monument valley

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 10:51 PM PDT

Since the second one is free, I got both monument valley games and I like them a lot. The art, the audio, etc are all really well done, and I pretty much played through them all in a couple days.

    Any recommendations for similar games?

Looking for a nostalgia game and I can't seem to find one. Any help?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 08:34 PM PDT

I've been looking for a game that I know was removed from the app market in... God 2013?

It was a simple bubble pop game with green bubbles and a blue background. Pretty simple, it was on a grid about 5x4 with random bubbles placed. You would tap the bubble and once it reached a certain size it would pop, then shoot out it's liquid (?) In both horizontal and vertical directions. Those shots would collide with other bubbles and in term make them larger. You could potentially get a chain reaction that could clear the board and put you on the next level.

I am aware the app was removed, I went back to find it only to find out it was gone forever, but I'm asking if anyone knows a newer version of the same game so I can relive my tween days.

If anyone has a suggestion all are welcomed

    Idle Monster Frontiers

    Idle Monster Frontiers

As you can tell by the name, Idle Monster Frontier is a game that is meant to more or less play itself. Even though it can play itself, you are still in the driver seat, but is it worth your time?

    Gear/ Loot RPG

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 04:35 AM PDT

Looking for something where I can kill monster, grind for loot, and upgrade my skill tree. Dungeon Quest is the closest that I have gotten for what I am looking for. Titan Quest feels clunky on mobile. Any leads?

[REQUEST] Any good games to scratch my Avatar itch?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 11:55 AM PDT

So I'm rewatching ATLAB due to the quarantine (what else am I going to do lol), and I'm really wondering now if there are any mobile games that are...similar to the Avatar? I'm honestly not sure what I'm looking for, all I know is I'm really wanting to play a game that reminds of Avatar. Sorry this isn't a lot to go off of, but if you guys have any suggestions, I would love to hear them!

I'm looking for a game similar to The Last Of Us multiplayer online mode

Is there a game with the features of the game in the title? I'm looking for a multiplayer deathmatch, preferably with stealth elements.

[Request] Any good idle dungeon crawlers like Clickpocalypse 2?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 07:23 AM PDT

Looking for a game like Clickpocalypse 2, but with more strategy. Maybe something where I can choose different team comps and formations? I like the idea of Clickpocalypse but want more strategy when it comes to combat.

New to idle games in general but have already tried afkarena and Aurora legend

    Thanks!
