Plugged laptop into charger, it died and now won't turn on.

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 12:07 PM PST

    Hi, I have a HP 350 g2 laptop.

It was starting up and I plugged the power cord in. It suddenly died as soon as I turned plugged it in. Now it won't turn on at all.

I tried with and without charger. Also tried without battery.

How can I test to see what might be wrong??

    Thanks!

Can any laptop be connected to any TV?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 08:13 AM PST

I want to buy a laptop but I'm afraid I won't be able to connect it to my TV. I have a Vizio flat screen from like 2011, would it work? Is there any reason it wouldn't work?

    Laptop recommendations under £600 (~$750)?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 11:01 AM PST

    Hiya.

I'll be starting uni this year so need a decent laptop. I won't be using it for hardcore stuff like gaming/video editing etc. However I need it to be great at things like word processing, browsing, watching videos.

I've always been a desktop guy so have no clue where to even begin looking for a laptop.

So far I've seen decent reviews for the HP Pavillion 14/15, does anyone perhaps have one similar to that and can recommend it?

Thanks a lot. (btw I'm based in the UK)

    Computer Upgrade King Questions

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 10:15 AM PST

I posted this in another subreddit, but the results were less than encouraging. So I'm casting a wider net.

    Are they legit?

Any horror stories? Any good experiences? How long did your laptop last? When did it start having issues? How was the customer service, if you needed it?

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to help me out!

XPS 13 vs Razer Blade Stealth Iris (2019)

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 08:53 AM PST

I'm torn between these two last ones. The Iris is priced at $999 and the XPS at $1,200. I'm wavering more towards the XPS, is there anybody with either who can offer advice?

    Laptop problems

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 08:55 PM PST

my laptop has an i5-7200U with integrated graphics and 16 GBS of ram, but its really slow at booting, restarting, downloading things and doing things drive related. I think this is the fact that I have a HDD, so i asked my dad to buy me a 500gb SATA SSD and he said to make sure it'll speed things up before i do it, so here I am asking you guys if you think it'll speed up my boot times and download times and such.

    Thanks!

A year ago I hought an Asus x540bp and it's a complete garbage

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 08:11 AM PST

A year ago I bought an Asus x540bp. I knew it was not the best since it was kind of cheap but it was ok for what I usually use it for. But I must say the experience has been awful, it's really slow, it's constantly running out of disk, it has serious troubles opening a picture (I'm talking about up to 40 seconds to open an image), I had to change to firefox because it could hardly run chrome.

Moreover, I make sure it's virus free, I don't download programs or stuff, I paid for an antivirus subscription and I basically use it to edit files and display images for my students.

I'm kinda getting frustrated because I don't think I should buy a new one only after a year.

I would like to try to fix it before I move on but I don't have a clue where to begin

Can anyone give me a piece of advice?

I need a laptop, need help finding the right one.

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 07:51 AM PST

The Laptop I'm looking for has to be cheap, maximum price 600. I'm mostly gonna use it for surfing the web, school, and games. I dont need a gaming pc, at least I don' think I would, since the only games I'll play will be League of Legends, Minecraft, Terraria, and maybe World of Warcraft. As long as it doesnt lag with these, like my current one does, I'm fine. I would also prefer it had a decent battery life. Thanks for the help!

    Adapter and power cable question

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 07:42 AM PST

So I have an adapter for HP spectre folio 13" that says

    • 65w
    • input: 100-240V~ 1.6A, 50-60Hz
    • output: 5V = 3A / 9V = 3A / 12V = 5A / 15V = 4.33A / 20V = 3.25A

the power cable (the one that plugs into the wall socket) that comes with it is rated 7A 125V~

However, the wall socket in my country is rated 220V~, so this got me confused. Is it safe to use this adapter and power cable?

On the other hand, I have another power cable that says 2.5A 250V~ that is for another laptop. Should I use this one instead?

What laptop settings should I use when trying to the PC cool when gaming?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 05:08 AM PST

If we ignore actual game performance (low settings anyway) should I put the computer on high or low power mode? I don't want more fps, I just want a cool as possible PC without fans going crazy.

High or low power? When clicking on battery life, etc.

Laptop + Tablet -VS- Convertible Laptop

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 04:07 AM PST

    Hi there

    TLDR below.

I am an electrical engineering student. I have had a Thinkpad t480 for about 1.5 years. When i first bought it i didn't think i would need an electronic device to take my notes. But over the course of the first half year i realized how much more handy electronic note taking is, especially for note taking during class, homework and quick sketching. I bought a Wacom Intuos to use OneNote on my T480 with a pen but that is not really what i would call comfortable and i finally need something better.

I find myself having two options:

    1. Keep my T480 and buy a separate tablet with a pen (probably Android)
    2. Sell the t480 and buy a 2-in-1 laptop (currently eyeing student deals on either HP Dragonfly or Thinkpad X1 Yoga)

I am leaning towards option 2 because it might be a hassle synchronizing notes from a tablet to a laptop and there would be one more device i would need to manage.

What are your thoughts / advices / experiences?

    TLDR:

    • I have a Thinkpad T480 but need a device to take notes on.
    • Drawing tablet is no viable option (have dealt with that)
    • What is better, T480 + Android Tabled OR 2-in-1 laptop?

    RAM not working

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 03:25 AM PST

Hi, I have a lenovo ideapad 330 15IKB laptop with 8 gb ram. A few days ago I discovered that only 4 gb of ram was showing in my system monitor and also in bios settings. So I unscrewed the back cover, remove the 4 gb ram module and reinstalled it. After starting whole 8 gb ram was working. Today again the system monitor is showing only 4 gb of ram. What can be the problem? I am using this laptop since 1 year.

For info, it's half of the ram is soldered to the motherboard and only one module is removeable. And it is a ddr4 ram.

    Looking for recommendations

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 03:10 AM PST

    Hello everyone.

I'm looking for a laptop that I can use for school, but also for the future.

My main purposes with this laptop will be: School, Programming (related to school) and some super light gaming (LoL, stuff like this), although the gaming part in not super necessary since I have a gaming computer at home.

The form factor needs to be small (12-13") because I travel alot and commute a lot and am planning to work a lot "on the go".

I'd love to have something that I can write on like a tablet with a pen, since I'm using an Ipad Pro 9.7 with the Apple Pen a lot and found it super comfortable for me. For this reason I've had a lot of thoughts about the Surface Pro 7 with the pen, or the Dell XPS 13 with the compatible pen as well.

Personal reviews or experiences with such devices would be super useful.

    Thanks!
