    Additional statistics in Digital Wellbeing?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2020 04:08 PM PST

I've been using the app since it came out multiple times a day and I have to say that I'm very happy with it's growth. But at the same time, I feel like the app lacks in the provided statistics. I feel like a data company as big as Google could provide a lot more statistics about my phone usage.

What features are you hoping to get with Android 11

    Posted: 15 Feb 2020 12:53 PM PST

I'm pretty happy with Android 10 and I feel like operating systems in general are becoming close to perfect (at least for my usage).

If I could choose what was added to the next Android version I would like to see:

    • scheduled dark mode
    • a better way to to implement standard apps (as some of them tend to reset often for me)
    • maybe a build in screen recorder

These are all very small changes and I don't mind too much, if they won't be implemented in Android 11.

I'm curious to read about what Android is currently lacking in your opinion and what else you'd like to see improved.

I'm not an English native so please excuse my language mistakes.

Samsung galaxy z flip( preliminary review)(photos of device in link)

    Posted: 15 Feb 2020 01:19 PM PST

Samsung galaxy z flip review(mirror black).

    initial thoughts.

Unboxing- pretty standard equipment.... phone,USB cable and charger block and akg wired earphones.

In the UK Samsung is including Galaxy buds with the S20 and S20 ultra ,however Samsung have not done the same for the z flip after all it is a premium device.

    initial setup & software

I attempted to use smartswitch to transfer everything from my OP7pro via USB which wass a slow process 2 hours+ for 120GB data ,however I tried wireless serveral times and the connection would cease after some time.

Once the device was setup I noticed a lack bloatware, some Samsung apps were preinstalled but it seems in recent times samsung has listened to customer feedback.

The software seems smooth and responsive samsung already pushed a software update 1 day after release addressing camera software and other software improvements.

The update took 5 minutes to install + 2 minutes hanging on the home screen updating/optimising 200apps.

Not quite sure what happened to Googles strategy for seamless updates.

    Folding mechanism and display.

Obviously anyone who follows samsumg knows about the whole fiasco with the galaxy fold display prematurely failing in 1st gen review units.

The folding mechanism feels robust and the display can be angled from straight all the way through to to the closing of the device .

I attempted to open and close the device many times one handed, the device feels slippery and its very difficult to open one handed and I would say it places the device at significant risk of dropping .

I do however feel concerned about debris getting inside the folding hinge,I understand that samsung took measures to prevent this. I think customer vigilance will be important in reducing the risk of debris entering the device(if that is possible ).

I think long term feedback and reviews will be determinate of whether samsung has addressed the issues.

I do however like the folding mechanism in that the device folding closed makes it a lot easier to fit in pockets.

I however feel that the lack of software/prominence of software designed to exploite the z flips folding screen for potential splitscreen multitasking activity may threaten to condem folding screen devices to obscurity.

the screen feels exactly like a regular glass display with the exception of where the screen passes the folding mechanism, it won't ruin your life or inconvenience the usage of the device ; its just there a quirk of the device.

There are no options to modulate the resolution of the screen in the settings that I can find .

The screen displays good contrast between colours, excellent brightness.

The size of the display is unusable for single handed use,I can appreciate in the settings menu samsung have implemented a one handed mode.

when the device folds on the outside of the device opposite the rear camera module you are welcomed to a 1 inch touch display, which also displays notifications and date ,weather, time.

upon double clicking the powerbutton while the device closed it will activate the rear camera and display it on the 1 inch display ,it maybe useful for selfies or as a quick mirror substitute.

    audio.

The handset speaker is located at the bottom of the device and upon listening to music I would say the audio is clear and of a quality that is acceptable.

however it would be nice if the device had stereo speakers located top and bottom of the device.

    camera.

The camer is great at capturing photographs that appear realistic without any significant loss of detail, without looking grainy or washed out.

it would appear samsung has worked hard on both the camera software and hardware.

it would of however of been nice if samsung put the same camera module in that is present in the S20 ultra.

The camera style of the Galaxy Z Flip is completely different from the S20s. It is the same style as the Note 10 and is the final optimization. The S20s camera samples have low saturation and are closer to the realistic style, which is not pleasing to the eye. Shot on Z Flip

I just don't feel like upgrading phones anymore

    Posted: 14 Feb 2020 06:32 PM PST

So early on my smartphone years I was upgrading every single year. The improvements where huge, and I was happy to pay the price. But now? It doesn't seem worth it.

My last phone before this was an LGv20 which I had from 2015-2018. My current phone is a Note 9 and I intend on keeping this phone until it breaks. It feels like we've reached the peak of smart phones.

Option to charge to only 80% SoC, not 100%?

    Posted: 15 Feb 2020 10:12 AM PST

Long-term Li-ion battery degradation gets exponentially worse closer to 100% state of charge since there's more stress on the battery. This means your phone lifetime is effectively much shorter than it would otherwise be. How can I charge my phone up to just 70-80%, and not 100% ?

If there's no easy way to do this, why doesn't Android supply this as a basic option?

I have the Xiaomi Redmi 7.

[DEV] Autonomous - a simplistic app for task automation

    Posted: 15 Feb 2020 06:55 AM PST

This is the google playstore link:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pi.io.autonomous

    Why another task automation app?

Really wanted something easy to use. Most of the time you don't need a swiss knife just to cut the bread.

SIDE NOTE. The app requires tons of permissions. However, those are requested per use (only when those are really needed). We are aware this might be a show stopper for many users. We do understand the privacy concerns and trying to find the best way to ensure the users there is no risk using the app. Therefore, any comments or criticism in this area is not welcome. We already know this is a sensitive subject, don't need anybody else to emphasize this again and again.
