    Screen mirroring... Itself?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 10:50 PM PST

So today at work, my phone (Motorola One) unlocked itself in my pocket and went to town pressing random stuff (I think everyone had it happen at least once, right?). After around 2 minutes of unmonitored "fun", I took it out of said pocket and noticed this. I went around the developer options, didn't find anything that might help me disable this "feature", so, here I am.

About the window itself: I can move it, like any other floating app. I can scale it (full width takes about 30% of the screen). At the top (I think it's noticeable in the screenshot) it displays the inner window's current resolution.

I tried restarting my device multiple times, enabling/disabling different things in the developer options, looked around the service menu (didn't have the balls to try random options in there, though).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I really don't want to factory reset my phone. Thanks in advance.

Bought a Huawei Mate 30 Pro on impulse from UAE but can't get Google play services to work on it now?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 10:26 PM PST

Pretty much the title. Bought a Huawei Mate 30 pro from the UAE but I am unable to use Google Play services on it. I tried a few things from the net but I couldn't find anything concrete since LZPay has been taken down.

Please suggest a working alternative, I do not want to go the bootloader route.

How do I block internet access, but stay connected to the LAN/Wi-Fi?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 07:06 PM PST

I want a way for my phone to still be connected to my router and home server, but not able to access the internet.

I have tried firewall apps like Netguard and NoRoot Firewall, but they block my access to the local network as well as the internet. I also really do not want to root my phone.

How much ram do i need ?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 08:46 PM PST

I was wondering if 4gb is enough for texting social-media and a little pubg. Planning to use for at least 3 years. So that's what i use my phone for.

Now I'm confuse should i go for realme XT with Snapdragon 712 6 gb ram or realme x2 730g 4 gb ram ? I have a limited budget

Update : I checked my current phone (redmi note 4 4gb ram variant sd 625) i just use 2.71 gb of ram on average. I'm ok with the multitasking on my current phone. This has led to the revelation that i need more soc horsepower. But I'm still conflicted and can't choose ! 😭

Google Assistant Activating Almost Everytime Headphones are Plugged in

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 05:19 PM PST

So, I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2019 and whenever I plug in my headphones, Google Assistant activates. It's been doing this ever since I got it last month and I haven't been able to figure out how to stop it from activating. Is it possible to fix it?

    Android Messages not notifying me

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 07:11 PM PST

I have a Motorola G6 with Android messages installed. I haven't been getting any text notifications, so I am forced to open the app to see the messages that I received. I made sure that my ringer is up to the full volume and that notifications are on for the app, yet that doesn't seem to work. I am on the latest version of the app.

Has anyone else experienced this as well? Does anyone know a possible fix, or should I opt for a different SMS app on the Play Store?

Thoughts on getting spouse an iPhone

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 10:27 PM PST

Wife and I have been using Android phones for nearly ten years. Recently, she went on a work trip where colleagues were AirDropping group photos to each other which she missed out on as the only non iPhone user.

Super judgementally on my part, my initial reaction was that it's a shame 'basic' consumerism won out. On the other hand I wonder if you can't beat them, should you join them?

You can Bluetooth, direct Wi-Fi, NFC, WhatsApp, upload, etc to fling files between cross-platform devices but in practice iPhone owners won't make the effort. My wife isn't a heavy tech user and I think she would be content with an iPhone.

    My concerns are that:

    • Our paid Google Play family apps will no longer be of use to her

    • They cost 2-5 times as much for half the functionality ($2000!?!? 😱)

    • I won't be able to provide any tech support as I've never owned one

For those who have been through the same situation, has it been a complete non-issue or would you still have some reservations?

Galaxy S7 constantly "dangerously full" despite uninstalling and moving apps

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 10:15 AM PST

My Galaxy S7 is constantly warning me my storage is dangerously full at ~31.5 GB / 32 GB. I've moved as much as I can to my SD card, including photos and apps. I've uninstalled apps. I'll go through a cycle of moving and uninstalling up to as much as 1 GB at a time and yet a few hours later my phone is warning me I'm nearly full again.

    Any idea what's going on?

    Facebook messenger update prompt

I got a notification for an update and when I click it, I get this. Is this normal? Shouldn't the update be through the google play store? I have Xiaomi Mi 9T and Android 9.

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 07:50 AM PST

So after my sim card was swapped my phone got a notification from wifi calling that says tap here to confirm or update emergency location information but when I click it I get a loading this may take a few moments message and then nothing ever happens. Ive let it sit for hours but it just loads forever. I dont have any issues with my phone or using 911 or anything and just want this to finally go away.

Here is a pic of the notification but I cant take a screenshot of the loading part because it says that security settings prevents it. https://ibb.co/SNhPgzB

    PlayStore App compromised?!

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 12:49 PM PST

I have been chasing this malware for weeks now. This malware is easily detected and removed by malware bytes but reinstalls itself after an hour or so. After a ton of monitoring and trying to figure out where it's coming from with a staff member from Malware Bytes, we've reached the conclusion that my Google Play app is compromised. I reached this conclusion because if I disable it and then remove the malware, it doesn't return. I re-enabled to test and within 30 seconds the phone was riddled with it again.

So now that I know that it's coming from the playstore itself, how do I get rid of it?? It seems as long as the play store is disabled, the phone is clean but it doesn't seem particularly practical to keep it disabled at all times given that's the only place to download new apps as needed.

    Do Eraser Apps really work?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 08:28 AM PST

    Hi,

    i have got a Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus (SM-G965F) (Duos, Dual-Sim).

    - Does any eraser app really work so that data (e.g. photos, videos, other content, apps) can be deleted for all time - so that it is not possible to rescue/restore these files. Or are any requirements needed., e.g. a rooted respectively flashed phone etc.?

    - Does it depend on the android version or the phone model?

For example, I found these, but there are more:

    -iShredder

    -Shreddit - Data Eraser

    -Secure Eraser

    -Shreddit - Data Eraser

    -Remo File Eraser

    -SHREDDER: Data Eraser

    -Andro Shredder

    -Secure Wipe

I tried some, they give a feedback that the job is done, but are the files reallly wiped, so that it is not possible to rescue/restore these files.

What exactly do hard resets do, from within the Settings or while the phone is off (with the key shortcuts)

    Thx!

[Question] Force Google maps to use secondary language

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 03:51 PM PST

I have added two languages to Android under language and input. German and English. German is the default and English is the secondary. Can I force the Google Maps app to use the second language on the list (English)? I have tried using the navigation language setting inside the Google Maps app, but it gives far less clear directions in English than in German.

    Thanks in advance!

    YouTube notifications messing up

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 03:13 PM PST

I watch YouTube every day and I'm subbed to a lot of channels I watch. I get all the notifications for the videos in my drop down menu but for some reason the 'watch later' button doesn't work anymore. It receives my touch input (confirmed by the button turning a darker grey) but doesn't add it to my watch later list or dismiss the notification.

I've tried restarting my phone and reinstalling the app. My Google fu has failed me! Please Reddit, you're my only hope!

Camera doesn't allow me to use the flashlight when in light conditions

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 10:25 AM PST

I have a Samsung Galaxy A50 with the last update installed but my camera app just won't set the flash on/always on. The only options available are Auto and Off and I can't turn it on manually from the notification bar when the camera app is running. Is it a problem of mine or it is just like that? Seems strange that they wouldn't put always on flash... btw thanks in advance! :)

Have to toggle airplane mode or reboot to get mobile data back?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 01:11 PM PST

Multiple times a day my mobile data connection stop working and i have to toggle airplane mode to get it back, once its back everything is fast again so I don't think its a signal problem. I'm on Verizon with an LGv50 running android 9. It seems to happen more while I use hangouts but that is also by far the most I use my mobile data so I'm not sure if they are related. Has anyone else experienced this?

I've reset my network connections, clean out apps, used glasswire to monitor the connection and don't see anything standing out. No problems on wifi.

I have not done a full reset yet as I have multiple business apps that are an extreme pain to get back. (RSA keys from a central office and such)

Not really tech support, just settings. Anyway to change the missed alarm feature so it will go off again if you miss it? It made me miss my test today.

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 06:46 AM PST

The missed alarm where if you don't stop it it will just shut off and not go off again. I guess I was sleeping too hard to wake up and hear my alarm because I stupidly didn't have the alarm set loud enough I guess

Mobile App request: Upload to Google Nearline from Android Device

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 12:41 PM PST

Is the an Android mobile app which will upload files from an Android device's internal storage to Google Nearline cloud storage?

The Google Console Android mobile app allows viewing of Nearline content, but not upload (unless I'm mistaken).

Now that my Google Pixel Gen 1 is dead (motherboard), I'd like to find an easy way to upload my full-res photos to the my google nearline buckets

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

Edit: So I've found where to "pause" it, but does anyone know what the service is called in android so I can remove it with adb?

    Can't find a good icon maker app/software

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 10:52 AM PST

    Hi,

I've tried icon changer (doesn't work for folders),

material Icon changer (No matter which icon resolution I try to output, the icons always look smaller than the others on the homescreen)

and the website Android Asset Studio - Launcher icon generator&backColor=rgb(0%2C%200%2C%200)&crop=0&backgroundShape=square&effects=none&name=ic_launcher) (Icons I made with that looked less sharp, perhaps 192x192 is just too low?)

CPL (Costum Pixel launcher) has a built in icon creater but you can't change folder icons on that one as well. So, unless you know an app that lets you change folder icons Without ruining the icon (by adding an extra symbol to it for some reason) I wouldn't want to use this launcher either.

    Can you help me out?

Currently using Pixel 3 with Lawnchair Launcher 2 or Nova Launcher
