Installing Windows 10 OS on former work laptop Posted: 31 Jan 2020 11:42 AM PST As the title shows, I have a Lenovo T450 with windows 10 Pro that I bought from work that they were cycling out/deprecating. I have a Windows 10 ISO on a flash drive that I wanted to use to basically start fresh on the Laptop for personal use. In the process of install I was stopped at selecting the partition because it has bitlocker encryption. My company's IT department gave me a few options for recovery ("Fresh Start", Media Install etc) but I wanted to see if regardless of the method, will that Bitlocker encryption need to be disabled? Or is it only with using USB/Disc Media? Thanks in advance, sorry if this is posted incorrectly. [link] [comments]
Can't complete Samba installation - Win10 password problem r/LinuxQuestions is a better fit Posted: 31 Jan 2020 06:24 AM PST I'm trying to install CIFS/Samba support on my Raspberrypi 4, I'm following the Official Documentation via SSH on my W10 desktop, I'm stuck at this line I changed the IP address and the user name with mine and I get this line sudo mount.cifs Password for myusername@ mount error(13): Permission denied I log on my win 10 desktop with a pin but using that doesn't work, so I tried my MicrosoftMicrosoft account which I used to install windows the first time but even that password doesn't work, so how do I found which password I have to insert in order to get it done? Posted: 31 Jan 2020 08:07 PM PST I've tried resetting my laptop for about 15 minutes now, tried deleting all useless files, music, trash bin, apps, and it still won't let me reset it. I tried deleting steam and fire alpaca but it says I need space to do that, it basically keeps telling me that I need space to reset my laptop but it won't let me delete anything else, anybody know how else can I reset my laptop? (sorry for the bad English, it isn't my first language) [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jan 2020 09:05 AM PST Hello, I'm looking into possibly picking up another laptop/tablet. However besides Microsoft's Surface line there doesn't seem to be many options for 3:2 ratio displays. Does anyone have any recommendations? Maybe I should just wait to get a new device, I guess I like tinkering with things. The surface neo looks real enticing but I'm wondering how it will be priced. The foldable display machines have been too expensive thus far. [link] [comments]

Drivers are updating after Windows Update Posted: 31 Jan 2020 04:28 PM PST Hello guys, I noticed this happening from time to time either after a fresh install or after months of use. I hope you can clarify this for me as I have found nothing about it on Google: After running Windows update I get confirmation everything is updated however if I go to Device Manager and manually click on every device to update the driver, some of them find newer versions not detected previously, specially from Intel but also obscure things like "System Firmware" and others. This happens even after using tools like Driver Booster. Can you shed some light on this behavior and possibly suggest how can I automate this process? I find my Intel laptop runs better after doing this manual process. Thanks a lot! [link] [comments]
Tree command crashing before listing entire directory. Posted: 31 Jan 2020 03:08 PM PST When I run the tree command, whether by launching tree.com from system32 or by Win+R, its command interface begins to list the directory, yet crashes a little less than halfway to completion. Not sure if tree just isn't being alloted enough RAM from the system or otherwise, whether-or-not the CPU can handle it (6-core, 6-thread). Is there any fix for this? Could something be interfering with the process? I've observed Task Manager and Resource Manager while running the command and every device is close to idle in terms of utilization, save the CPU. Everything stays far below 10% utilzation except the CPU which jumps to ~25 or less and exceeds max freq (up to 112+%, it seems), CPU 1,4,5 peaking the greatest. System RAM doesn't exceed 10%. My system:
EDIT: I should mention that I have 4 active drives (2 being semi-active for cloning and backups) plus an optical drive without any storage media present. I've got a 2TB WD Blue which is about halfway full, a 500GB Crucial MX500 which is about 3/4ths full, and a 1TB Samsung 860 Evo which is about 3/5ths full. [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Jan 2020 12:41 PM PST Hello all, I'm a big fan of macros on my android device and I'm looking for the same on Windows. Does any of you have ideas ? From what I have seen, it doesn't look very friendly on Windows. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jan 2020 09:07 AM PST So, I'm thinking of selling my surface 3 (Intel atom non pro version). However I've wiped it and installed Linux on it. I could probably make a windows 10 USB install drive and boot off that to put windows 10 on it. Though wouldn't that be unlicensed? Guess I didn't think it through that much wiping it...
