    Apps you changed in 2019

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 09:06 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

2019 has been a fantastic year for my phone. I spent some of my holiday continuing to breathe new life into my Moto Z2 Force. I removed a ton of neat apps I just never use anymore: lightning browser, bromite, kiwi browser, AF wall ( not rooted anymore), muzei, waze, camscanner. I swapped out some key apps too.

The apps I moved away from and to this year:

    1) Nova to Total Launcher - I moved away from nova prime for really two reasons. I wanted a better way to access my widgets because they were covering the background, my fiancé. Second, it crashed every now and then and slows to a crawl once the phone gets plugged in. This occasionally results in icons moving (as if I long pressed). This issue doesn't occur in total because once you set the interface it doesn't move unless you enter edit mode. Total has a little learning cover because it's highly customizable, but after using it for a week I understand why.

    2) Habit to yuzu browser - Habit browse did everything fine. Yuzu was just a little bit less clunky and updated. It also felt slightly speedier. It's super customization heavy but I can't find another browser with page up/down short cuts on the bottom of the screen. Perfect for one hand usage.

    3) pikture gallery to simple gallery - Really does everything better and easier. Find my pictures easier. Great out of the box experience.

    4) Weather timeline to Weawow - It still remains one of best designed app. Many of you know the app changes API for weather source it was using. I didn't care for it until it told me it wasn't going to rain (low chance) to raining. Also the forecast was off by more than five degrees.

    5) Daylio to Diarium - The mood tracking was nice but I wanted to actually write more and see how I progress my thoughts. The notification reminders were annoying because after selecting a mood it entered into the app. Daylio felt like it should be a background tracker but diarium forces me carve time out.

    6) Self made Google spreadsheets to Bluecoin - Really worth paying for just for speeding up the logging process. All the sale charts I would have graphed is built in the app. One time pay is much more affordable than subscription.

    7) Moto Z gestures to fluid - higher accuracy overall and just works better. Misses on some apps completely thou.

    8) Miscellaneous - Any website hermit works well.

I'd love to hear some of your guy's changes.

Would you like to reduce excessive sitting in 2020? My app might be able to help :)

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 10:57 PM PST

    "Chairless" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.runtimeerrorstudio.chairless)

I spent a lot of time developing it to track my sitting time and reduce excessive sitting. (Since I have back and neck pain)

By simply resting the phone in your front pocket and the app would run in the background and use the accelerometer of your phone to tell whether you are standing or sitting or the phone is placed flat on the table.

    Features:

    - Time series graph showing the Median & Longest continuous sitting time for the past 7 days

    - Statistics of a 24-hour breakdown (sitting / standing / phone was placed on table)

    - Adjustable alarms reminder to take a break from sitting

It's my first time developing an app, please let me know if there's anything you like/dislike about the app and I will add it to my todo list :)

EDIT: Sorry for the popup ads, I am updating the app now to replace it with an embedded ad to optimize the user experience.

EDIT2: I've changed the popup ads into small banner ads at the bottom (still trying to figure out how to properly implement native ads) meanwhile I've pushed the changes and the app on Play Store should update in an hour or so.

    Alternative to FolderSync Pro?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 05:01 AM PST

Ive been using FolderSync Pro to sync my photos and video to my local NAS. I only sync on my local LAN, so no cloud support is not necessary. While FolderSync Pro "works", its slow (1.1MB/s) and it times-out if my display turns off. I am looking for an alternative. Any suggestions?

Question about In-App-Purchases in APKs not directly downloaded from Google Play

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 07:54 AM PST

Hi, first time posting here. There was this game on the Google Play store that I could not install since it wasn't available in my country, so I downloaded the same game online from ApkPure. I was wondering if I could still complete in app purchases in the game even though I did not directly download it from the google play store. When I press the "purchase item" button, a pop-up from the google play store will show up, and it shows the standard "add credit or debit card" words on the pop-up. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I want to change my virtual keyboard, any suggestions?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 11:09 AM PST

Currently using a Samsung s6, and the keyboard/autocorrect is hot garbage. It corrects "thats" to "that s", when I make a typo and go back to correct it, it autocorrects back to the typo, and it seems to randomly decide not to autocorrect anymore Sometimes. Oh yeah, and it also randomly decides some words need to be capitalized, like in the previous sentence.

It's very frustrating, and I'm looking for keyboard software that doesn't have these issues.

Android emulator that can run any app separately, not the full system

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 10:47 AM PST

Hi. I need an emulator for running various apps. The problem is that I want to run these applications separately from the entire system. Separately, when you click on a Windows shortcut on desktop, and only this app runs, without the ability to open any other app. Can any emulator do that? P.S I need that to quickly open Bluecoins app on the PC. P.P.S If there no way to do that separately from the system, recommend me an emulator that opens particular app already with the system.

Freezing apps on a non rooted Samsung s10+

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 10:36 AM PST

I like having lots of apps around, some I don't use often.. I'm not concerned about battery power but more so about tracking and security. I would like to freeze the majority of my phone apps and unfreeze them when I actually need them. I want the freezer to persist past a reboot as well. Any suggestions?

Any suggestion for a weather app?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 09:41 AM PST

Hello, As I am riding a motorbike morning/evening and since the weather is getting pretty challenging, I am looking for a functional weather app.

Currently, I am using "weather" https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.secuso.privacyfriendlyweather/ I like it but my main issue is that I would like to be able to customize the timeline: resolution, range.

My ideal app would be (in order of importance):

    • FLOSS (fdroid) using free ressources (equivalent to openstreetmap for osmand)
    • minimal permissions. Weather app needs internet and that should be it
    • able to have a good timeline. I want to see the old forecast to be able to evaluate the accuracy of the following forecast. See the temperature at 6pm, 6:30pm and 7pm

What I do NOT need: localisation, fancy graphics, wizzbang features

Would I be better just browsing a generic website? Which one?

    Thank you all

App to create shortcuts to toggle system settings

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 11:06 PM PST

Please suggest me an app to toggle network settings, just by a touch of a shortcut on my home screen.

Here's my problem. I drive through a route with patchy network everyday. When I'm in a call before I enter that place (in a volte call), the call gets disconnected, and I do not get cell service for next 5 mins. When I switched my network preference to 3G, the call doesn't get disconnected. For some reason when I'm in the volte call it never falls back to the 3G network

Now, I need a suggestion for an app through which I can create shortcuts, through I can change network preference to 3G, rather than traversing through settings . I'll perform the switch before the call.

I have a Pixel 3a and my service provider has disabled the Enhanced LTE switch . So, changing network preference to 3G is the only option .

Any suggestion (even without an app) will be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Happy New Year.

Looking for Android/Web app to help organize and schedule tasks in this way

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 08:54 AM PST

I would like it to work with my google calendar. I would like to be able to list my tasks, create deadlines for them, and ultimately schedule my calendar with the things I want to do in a given day.

So, I might have one large goal, and that might have a deadline, and then I'd like to have sub goals that work towards that goal, and those to have deadlines, and I'd like to be able to easily see those deadlines, and then schedule specific tasks on my calendar, in order to plan out my days.

Any ideas for what the best app would be for this sort of thing?

    Notepad / Journalling App?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 06:56 AM PST

Hello I'm looking for a notepad and journalling app

I know there's a lot of journalling and notepad apps out there, but I'm looking one which specifically has both features (journalling that keeps track of the day you wrote in + a notepad feature that isn't restrained to dates and you can check any time) on a single app

Most of the time when I find notepad and journalling on the title, it's always just a journalling app

    I use android

    Suggestions are appreciated!!
