Windows 10 keeps installing the wrong touchpad driver Posted: 28 Dec 2019 06:22 AM PST This "feature" of Windows keeping drivers up to date can be incredibly annoying. I have an MSI GL63 laptop and the installed Synaptics touchpad driver is from 2018. It sucks, and making small movements with the touchpad is pretty much impossible to do accurately. In device manager, if I click update, the driver updates to a 2019 driver with a newer version number and after a reboot the touchpad works perfectly. Then, for absolutely no discernible reason, a popup will appear telling me Windows has installed the drivers for my touchpad and asks me to reboot. When I do, the drivers are back on the much worse and older 2018 version. Is there anything I can do to use device manager to update to the newest version and then tell Windows to leave it the hell alone? I have tried manually installing the drivers from the MSI website (the same updated and correct 2019 version) but they are packaged through Microsoft's APPX thing so it still reverts/ignores them. Thanks for any advice. [link] [comments]
Windows 7 to windows 10 upgrade black acreen Posted: 28 Dec 2019 07:14 PM PST So I am at the part where it restarted my pc and is now installing windows updates. It was showing the percent and the words "pc will restart couple times". It did one restart and I could see the screen with the percentage, it did a second restart and now the screen is black. It has been black for like an hour now. Do I keep waiting? First time I tried upgrading I restarted the pc myself but it reverted to windows 7. [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Dec 2019 04:51 PM PST Has anyone had any luck with RDS migrations from older OS's to Newer? Say 2k12 to 2k19? Currently working on a project where a previous "admin" installed RDS on a server with AD. All the documentation I can find suggests performing an inplace upgrade of server 2012 to 2019 then adding the new server to the farm. Replicating everything over. However inplace upgrades of DC's is considered against best practices and risky to say the least. Two issues 1) UPD (user profile disks on the RDS collection with VDI's 2) Active directory. Any thoughts? [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Dec 2019 06:42 PM PST And it's most noticeable when I watch footage of games. I have it set to 1080p but the actual video looks more like something between 480p-720p. If anyone has any solutions can you help please? Switching web browsers doesn't work either. :( [link] [comments]
Windows installation corrupted after accidentally pulling the plug during update Posted: 28 Dec 2019 02:45 PM PST Hey guys, so I made a really dumb mistake. I accidentally pulled the plug while my machine was doing updates (I assumed it was properly shut down already). When booting again, my Windows 10 wouldn't start so I quickly set up a bootable USB drive and Windows 'fixed' itself automatically when booting from it. Now I can boot again but I am left with a completely untouched and temporary Windows installation. Windows wants me to sign out of my profile and sign in again in order to be able to save any (and hopefully get back my old) files. When I do that, I just get the same message again. When navigating into my users folder, I can see that my old files are there but for some reason Windows just won't let me out of this temporary installation thing. How can this be fixed? I'd like to avoid saving my files manually and then setting up a completely new Windows installation if possible. Thanks in advance [link] [comments]

Cannot connect to my PC via network - claims password is incorrect Posted: 28 Dec 2019 01:50 PM PST Hey there. Whenever I try to connect to my desktop PC via network, whether through SAMBA or Remote Desktop, I get told that my password is incorrect. I'm on Windows 10 v1903. I'm using a Microsoft that is attached to my Gmail account. This started occurring after I reinstalled Windows on my new PC. When I first built the PC, my network sharing was working fine, but I decided once I had all of my parts installed how I wanted them that it would be best to just have a clean install. On the first install, I didn't have my NIC driver ready during the install process, so I set Windows up without my Microsoft account and then just linked it afterward. Once I linked it, though, I signed in how I've always used SAMBA and Remote Desktop - using my email@gmail.com and Windows password. It worked. Once I reinstalled, I had my NIC driver ready so I could just sign into my Microsoft account during the install. Now when I try to log into my PC via network, it tells me the password is wrong. Anyone run into this and know of a fix? I'm really hoping that the answer isn't to reinstall Windows again or to set the profile up again. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Dec 2019 04:48 PM PST Assuming I have C:\Python\ The %PATH% I'd make would be C:\Python\bin and C:\Cygwin\bin Could I just make a hard link of C:\Python\bin along with C:\Cygwin\bin and put them in C:\bin so I could just put them under one variable environment (%PATH%)? Need help doing clean Windows install and data wipe for old Vista / Win 7 laptop Posted: 28 Dec 2019 01:40 PM PST I'm trying to help someone wipe their ancient PC before they donate it to someone else (I know it's pretty useless as a PC but this person wants to donate it to a friend) and am looking for some help. All desired files have been backed up to an external drive, I want to wipe everything from the drive for security reasons and start over with a clean Windows install. The drive didn't have any existing partitions, everything was installed on the C drive. The PC was purchased with Windows Vista but was later upgraded to Win 7 Pro 64 bit. I have the recovery disc for Windows Vista. I did not have a product key or an installation disc for Win 7. Thanks to some Googling, I retrieved the Win 7 product key from the registry for use on https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7 in an attempt to create a Win 7 boot disk but the code I retrieved results in an error message that says to contact MS for assistance. Because of this I was unable to initiate a fresh Win 7 install. My next attempt was to create a fresh install from the Vista restore disc and wipe out all existing data. When following the Vista installation steps the option to wipe the drive during the install wasn't able to be selected, I believe this is because I'm installing a downgrade from the existing OS. Because of this I cancelled the installation of Vista. Next I planned to create a new partition, install Vista on it, then format the existing C drive which contains Win 7 and all existing data. I was able to create a partition (assigned it as "A" drive) and install Vista. However the option to format the C drive is greyed out in the Windows drive manager despite me booting from the A drive. What else can I do to wipe the C drive? The clean install can be either Win 7 or Win Vista in the end, I don't really care. I'm starting to lose patience and am quickly approaching the "take the hard drive out and smash it with a hammer" phase. [link] [comments]
windows 10 notification delay? Posted: 28 Dec 2019 12:46 PM PST I just received a notification that an iPhone has been plugged into my laptop and to choose what to do with my device. The thing is there was nothing connected to my laptop, since 12 hours ago. Is this a notification delay or could this be a something entirely else? Normally I wouldn't be anxious about this, but it grabbed my attention because this notification came with a sudden increase in ping (from 8 ms to 3400ms) for 1 minute. [link] [comments]
[Windows 7] Is it possible to change the settings of pop-up notifications for Firefox? Posted: 28 Dec 2019 10:53 AM PST If you use FF you'll know that you can activate pop-up notifications, for instance for Gmail, and they will appear on the bottom right corner. My problem with those notifications is that they remain on screen way too much time. So I was wondering if I can change that. I asked in the Firefox community, but they told me that this is actually on the OS-level. Digging into FF settings actually reinforces this, as the only option there is pretty much enabling or disabling notifications. Anyway, any clarification on this topic will be appreciated. Making a bootable flash drive with separate storage partition? Posted: 28 Dec 2019 12:21 AM PST I wanted to create a windows bootable pendrive. I have a 32 gb (around 29 gb usable space) pendrive and the windows iso is hardly 6 gb. So what I thought is if I make a 7 gb partition and keep windows bootable image there. And make the rest 22 gb separate partition for normal usage for keeping files etc. Will it work or is there any better method to get this job done? [link] [comments] |
