Microsoft masking Photos app memory leak? Posted: 27 Dec 2019 03:52 PM PST The Photos app that Windows 10 uses has had a memory problem for a long time, but recently I noticed something unusual. The application usually slowly adds up memory in the task manager, sometimes up to 3 gigabytes. Recently, the task manager shows the memory as 0 and if you end the task it bumps up to the usual number before being removed. Is this an isolated thing or is this just Microsoft preventing people from noticing their problem with the Photos app? Here's a video when I closed Photos out of habit and noticed this issue Build 18362 [link] [comments]
Lost Windows Key and formatted hard drive Posted: 27 Dec 2019 06:22 AM PST So I had Windows 10, I upgraded my motherboard and formatted my hard drive and instead of realizing that I had to call Microsoft to activate windows, I went online and got some random key to try out. It didn't work and now I can't get back my old key. HELP!!!!!!!!!!! [link] [comments]

Possible to use a Dell Venue 8 as an interface for a more powerful Windows desktop? Posted: 27 Dec 2019 09:02 AM PST Hi all, I'm sorry in advance if this is a bad question for this sub. I'm building a gaming rig for a VR setup, and I have this Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet that's collecting dust. I thought it'd be cool to use it as an interface into the more powerful gaming rig, so I wouldn't need a keyboard or mouse lying around. Basically it'd be a glorified touch screen to launch the Steam VR apps, switch games, turn everything on and off, etc. I tried google but wasn't sure exactly what terms to search for. Thank you for your thoughts/feedback! [link] [comments]
Cant connect to MiraCast, but Chromecast is ok Posted: 27 Dec 2019 09:08 AM PST Can someone explain me, why mc Windows PC (without WLAN) with a nvidia gpu can not stream his desktop to miracast, but it is possible to stream to chromecast. Isnt it the same thing? [link] [comments]
Overwriting Ubuntu desktop with Windows server? Posted: 27 Dec 2019 03:44 PM PST I have a home server with Ubuntu 18 desktop installed. I was able to get a copy of Windows server 2019 through work, and want to stick that on there now. I don't care about any of the files on there now, and want this to be a single boot system. Can I just install the windows server OS using a bootable usb? And will that take care of the reformatting? Or do I have to manually reformat before I install? I've seen a lot of stuff about dual boot systems, but this is just a single boot system. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Standard account always needing admin permissions Posted: 27 Dec 2019 07:00 PM PST Recently, a computer was gifted to me at christmas and I want to open the msi dragon center on startup but it constantly asks for admin permissions. Me and my Father are trying to overcome this without him granting me admin permissions and neither of us can figure it out. We just want it to constantly not ask for admin permissions so it can startup on the computers startup. Any help at all is appreciated. [link] [comments]
18363.535 Not November 2019 Update? Posted: 27 Dec 2019 03:14 PM PST I recently reset my new Surface Pro 7 & installed all the updates. OS build is showing 18363.535 & Windows Update is saying it's up-to-date. The Windows 10 Update Assistant is also telling me Windows is up-to-date but I know for certain that the new features such as creating new events from the taskbar, new search in File Explorer, notification management improvements are not enabled. Anyone encountered this issue before & would know what to do other than trying to reset the laptop again? [link] [comments]
Remote Desktop using subdomains Posted: 27 Dec 2019 04:41 PM PST I have 2 pcs running windows 10 pro and have set them up to allow remote connections and port forwarding. I am using godaddy for the domain, and have gotten just the domain part to work accessing one of the computers. I can't for the life of me figure out how to setup a sub domain that will do this. I am currently using 2 domains because I've had one left over from various projects and with it expiring soon I kinda want to make one domain be able to connect to different computers. Is there any way of actually doing this? I don't know what I'm missing to make it work. [link] [comments]
Laggy window animation when opening file explorer or taskbar Posted: 27 Dec 2019 01:53 PM PST I have recently upgraded my GPU to an rx460 and for some reason it's made windows quite laggy/slow. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Windows hardware support question Posted: 27 Dec 2019 01:45 PM PST I'm trying to research how long various devices are supported. (I'm not in the market for anything - I'm just curious.) Do Microsoft (or maybe Intel/AMD?) post any details about how long Windows will support various hardware? What I'm mostly interested in is the support for various CPUs, since there has been at least one example of a version of Windows no longer supporting a CPU (although I only know of that one), but I'm also curious if Microsoft has any guarantees of driver API/ABI backwards compatibility. Could anyone point me in the right direction? [link] [comments]
Curiosity about default installation folder for recent programs Posted: 27 Dec 2019 04:27 PM PST Hi, I've seen it's a trend to have Windows apps installed to instead of At first, I think it's not good to have apps scattered all over the C: partition. But there must be a reason for the current choice made by those developers. What is it? [link] [comments]
Windows re-enabling light mode after waking from sleep Posted: 27 Dec 2019 06:24 PM PST Every few times my computer wakes from sleep I find it enables light mode again. It's kind of annoying to sit down at my computer and find my taskbar a bright white and have to dive back into the personalization settings yet again. I had to re-install a fresh copy of Windows 10 in November, and it's been an issue since. Windows 10 Home version 1903 [link] [comments]

Can a machine have two Windows licenses tied to the same hardware? Posted: 27 Dec 2019 04:23 PM PST I have a Razer Blade 15 that came with OEM Windows 10 Home. Upgraded it to Education, says it's tied to my Microsoft Account. However, the file system corrupted itself, so I had to reinstall a new build of Windows from USB installation media. I didn't format the drive. Somehow, the OEM copy of Windows 10 Home is installed again on my computer. Can I get Windows 10 Education back? Is the license still tied to my account, even though the hardware it's tied to is currently on Home? [link] [comments]

Will I be able to upgrade both Windows and hardware? Posted: 27 Dec 2019 08:00 AM PST I am using Windows 7 right now and decided to upgrade my PC. I bought an i9-9900 CPU, which is not supported by Windows 7 (according to the Intel website). Therefore, my plan is the following:
Will it work? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
