Advertised battery vs actual detected (Dragon Max10, Android 9 Pie)

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 07:46 PM PST

I recently bought a new Dragon Max10 tablet which has an advertised battery of 5000 mAh. Accubattery and Phone Check both show that it is actually 2900 mAh. It's not just my device - I ordered one for my dad and his shows 2900 mAh as well. This is from Amazon, so it's possible, but unlikely that this is a counterfeit being sold as actual.

    Question

Is there usually a discrepancy between advertised and actual mAh like this for Android devices?

Should I get an Android phone with 128GB or is 64GB enough?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 01:21 PM PST

My current phone is at the end of its lifespan and I need a quick replacement. While my phone isn't my most used device or anything like that (so I don't care about getting the latest or greatest), I still want to get something with decent specs and functionality where it matters most for me i.e. gaming and taking the occasional selfie.

So after searching I've settled on getting the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro, only thing is I can't decide if I should get the 128 GB version at $235-245 or the 64 GB version at $216 and add a micro SD card in the future if I ever need one (this one also comes with a bundle option that comes with a case and 64 GB mirco sd that clocks in around $233 but I probably wouldn't get the bundle if I went with the 64GB option).

    Which would be better?

Anyone else notice a red tint on their homescreen when they have their phone in dark mode after today's update? Samsung Galaxy S10+

Edit: Found the fix "Found the fix. It's in the display settings under dark mode. Tap dark mode and click "apply to wallpaper" off." At this forum https://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s10-s10-plus/987475-home-screen-red-tint-after-vz-10-0-update.html

Pixel 4 XL - Can't copy/move folders from Google Drive via Android File/Storage app to local storage?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 03:27 PM PST

Hey folks need some help or suggestions. Posted to wrong sub earlier. (TL:DR below)

I've been enjoying my Pixel 4 XL for several weeks now, and have recently decided to get back into listening to lossless audio from local storage (.FLAC files w/ PowerAmp). Side note, [insert joke here about Pixel 4's available storage] 😂

Truth be told, I literally haven't set music up like this since the HTC Evo LTE or HTC One M7 (yay for streaming).

Since cloud storage services are a cinch now w/ Google Drive or OneDrive this seems like the most efficient [laziest] way to transfer stuff to my phone (or so I thought) versus USB from computer.

My current problem is that Google Drive via Android Files/Storage app inconsistently allows the selection of an entire folder of music files to be copied or transferred. Sometimes it will work, other times it fails to upload to the phones storage either altogether (immediate fail) or it upload half the files and THEN fail. There is no consistency in folder size, character length, etc being the cause.

As an alternative what ALWAYS works with this method is going into the Google Drive folder from Android Files/Storage, and selecting all the files individually from Drive, THEN... everything copies to my phone. Does anyone know if this a Android 10 bug, Google Drive limitation or working as intended?

    Here is my process:

    1) FLAC files created/downloaded on PC 2) Drop music files from PC into artist & album specific folders in Google Drive via Chrome 3) Go to Pixel 4 XL, open Android Files/storage app, tap options 4) From Android Files app select "Google Drive" to access newly created cloud storage music folders/files 5) Highlight folder or files needed then select "copy to" 6) Navigate back through the Android local storage to manually choose my (local storage) designated music folder that's tied to the PowerAmp library (PowerAmp does the rest of the file organization)

TL:DR - Via the Pixel 4 XL Android File/Storage app - Google Drive/Android Files/Storage app inconsistently pulls/copies folders of files from Google Drive storage to the Pixel's local storage. Individual files have no issues.

    Hi all,

Not really a tech problem but a couple questions regarding an app. Before I begin I am on a Samsung Galaxy J7 V and am on Verizon. I've got questions regarding Samsung Experience Service. What does it do? Is it safe to disable all permissions on it?

Oneplus 6 scroll lag on sides of screen

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 06:20 PM PST

Pretty much as the title says. If I scroll using the middle of my screen it scrolls smoothly but whenever I use either side of the screen there is a lag before it actually scrolls. It's not that big of a deal but it can get pretty annoying.

Critical battery issues after multiple rom flashing. Help needed.

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 04:19 PM PST

Device: Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime (G-531F) running stock Android 5.1.1

So ive been flashing official regional roms, debloated roms etc, multiple times over the past and the battery is just shit now.

Sometimes the batery charges quickly and sometimes it takes over 4 hours to charge (2600mah battery charging at 5V 2A, no fast charge). Also the phone immediately dies without a sign at around 15-30% and never stays on until the battery drains to zero.

So i assume this is a calibration issue but im not certain and google won't provide much info on how to resolve this problem. I need to get this fixed so badly since this is my daily driver.

Also the phone is rooted with SuperSu and flashed TWRP 3.0 if it helps. Thanks!

So I have a 32gb SD card in my phone. And 16gb of internal storage. I formatted the SD as internal to put games apps etc on it.

When I go into my storage it shows I have like 15gb free, but when I go to download a 1.97gb game it says I have no space. Any help!?

    It's a ZTE Visible R2. Running Android 9. Thanks!

Videos frequently stop playing and won't start back up again unless I refresh.

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 01:47 PM PST

But even then they stop at the same spot. I have specifically noticed this problem on Reddit while browsing on Firefox with ublock origin. I exclusively browse Reddit via old.reddit.com while requesting desktop through both the website and and the Firefox browser itself. Hardware is note 10+ on ATT with Android 10, one UI version 2.0. Firefox is set to clear cache on exit. Problem persists on both data and Wi-Fi. Absolutely any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated as this is quite frustrating. Thank you to anyone who might be able to help out.

Any way to develop a custom Google assistant search algorithm for picking music from spotify?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 12:46 PM PST

Hello, I have a couple of Google homes and use Google assistant in my car and on my phone. I noticed that assistant is absolutely awful at picking songs if the request is the slightest but vague.

The idea is that if I ask my Google home or Google assistant to "play resonance", it would hear this command, and then run my app or code or whatever, searching through my spotify library for matches on reasonance. The hope is that it'd smartly see that I have a song literally titled resonance (by home) in my library and play that, not the random album by aftertheparty (??) that I've never heard of on my life.

I have example after example of it picking random bullshit, when I could think up a pretty simple preliminary search on my account's library and play things way more relevant to my connected account.

I have experience with developing Android apps and using spotify's API and have dreamed of integrating my own features or custom search algorithms. Is there any possible way to do this? I have done a bit of googling/reading on this, and it seems that all the available options for creating your own things are a bit more high level than I was hoping.

Further, I'd love to somehow develop my own feature to ask Google to add something to my spotify queue.

I know I could easily implement these purely with spotify's API in a desktop or android app, but does anyone have thoughts on how I'd have google assistant trigger this functionality?

Any ideas are welcome and greatly appreciated! :)

Edit: Also thought I should mention that I probably could alter voice commands to have them play from my liked songs playlist or something, but this is just an example. My underlying question is moreso about this deeper level of customization because I'd also like to expand it to try to tailor music requests to fall in line with my commonly listened to artists and genres, instead of a blend of most relevant/most popular, like spotify seems to utilize

Why does my phone keep turning on Location service by itself for no apparent reason?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 05:08 AM PST

    Hi,

My phone keeps turning on location by itself all the time. Even if it's just sitting on my desk without any input it will turn on location service, seemingly at random.

If I click on Location > Details and look at Recent location requests, the only ones I'm seeing are "Google Play Service" and "IMS Service". I'm not allowed to disable location for Google Play Service, and the IMS Service doesn't even have it enabled in the first place.

Is there any way to track what sort of apps are actually requesting location service, and to stop them from doing so?

    System: Galaxy S7, SM-G930A, Android 8.0.0, AT&T carrier.

I'll also add that the issue has been going on for a long time, across several restarts of the phone.

    Thanks for any help!

My phones just died and I need another and as it's after Christmas with the deals does anybody have any good phone recommendations. I'm looking for something under £300 with a great camera, waterproof, good storage and not too smashable. Wireless charging would be cool too but not essential :) thanks btw I'm from the UK so a Huawei wouldn't be an issue. Thanks :)
