Posted: 29 Dec 2019 06:34 PM PST when i take a photo with snipping tool and save it, its kind of low quality, but when I view it (windows 10) it seems to have better quality at first for a split second and then becomes slightly blurry. What does this mean and what can I do to improve the quality of the photos or view them at better quality? Also, some of my screenshots do have better quality, but most are not. thank you for your time [link] [comments]

Internet speeds on Win 10 ( 18363.535 ) suddenly drop to ~10Mb from a gig Posted: 29 Dec 2019 06:20 PM PST Hey all, as I've not seen anyone else post this I just wanted to check if I were the only one with this (odd) issue. Sometime in the last 24 hrs my net connection (*just* on the windows box, phones, rokus and other devices have no such problems) is suddenly lagging on the speedtest app (80-140ms ping where there used to be 40ms) and operating very slow (getting 10-13Mb downloading from places, and ~1.6Mb on speedtest where I used to get 500-999Mb on both, upstream is ~35Mb on speedtest instead of 50 like on cells, but that's a ton faster than down so not really helpful data...) have swapped ethernet cables, tried wifi (same speeds), updated the drivers on my card (realtek PCIe family), rebooted router, changed port on router, verified that in-network pings are fine (<1ms to the first hop) , turned off the windows firewall to see if that changed speeds (nope), verified my router's QOS is turned off (as is DOS protection) and even reverted to an earlier restore point from a few days ago. (also rebooted a bunch, scanned system with windows scan malwarebytes scan, and just about to run system file checker just to make sure the system files aren't screwing with me.) Am I missing something obvious (or ideally, am I not alone?) [link] [comments]

Accessing Windows 7 user folder from Windows 10 install on dual-boot machine Posted: 29 Dec 2019 03:01 PM PST Setting all kinds of permissions hasn't seemed to do anything. Even Windows 10's built in "Grant permanent access?" sits there for 20 minutes and ends up not giving me access when it finally finishes. How do I access my Windows 7 user folder on my old HD from my fresh Windows 10 install? The computer name for both my 7 and 10 installs are different, so the "domain" is different and everything I see that lets me add or change permissions only lets me do so for users within the windows 7 machine domain. I can't just go in and type a new user and everything's hunky dory. If I try to put "Win10Domain\Win10User" it just says the domain isn't valid because Windows 7 only sees its own domain. This is a frigging nightmare. I just want to access my Windows 7 files from my Windows 10 install. [link] [comments]
How do i mount a custom folder in Dos, if i don't know where the c drive is? Posted: 29 Dec 2019 04:23 PM PST Hey guys super confusing question ( at least 4 me). So its 2019, and todays phones can run emulators damn well, so i wanted to run fallout on dosbox. I got all the files ready in my download folder. But i struggle to mount the actual folder. I don't know how dosbox works, its says there is a C drive, but there isnt. I've searched all my phone and havent found a dosbox folder, where i could locate the c drive to put the game folder into... When trying to type into the console something like : mount storage/emulated/0/Fallout ( thats the location of the game), it says the directory doesnt exist. So obviously the game needs to be in this " c drive" but how can i put it inside when i dont even know where is it? Edit: typing dir showed me the files in the current directory which seems to be my files in the download folder. So its pretty much confirmation we are in the download folder. problem is game located 1 more folder down, inside the download folder is the fallout folder. Typing help showed me some codes. The app specifically say that if you type " mount c ~/dosgames ( this can be named anything) " than you will create a game directory. Typing it however yields the " directory doesnt exist message" So i thought its looking for the directory instead of creating one, so i renamed the fallout folder into dosgames, and mounted, but nothing, same result. But again, since the directory is in the download folder, i have deducted that i don't see it simply because its windows, and files can be hidden. So right now im downloading the es file explorer which as i recall can show hidden folders and files. Will report back. Update again. Got the es explorer pro which can show hidden files. Only found 2 dosbox settings files within the download folder containing the custom settings that i set for the app.. But didnt find any folder. Im gonna connect my phone to the pc, and see if i can find it there. Update from PC: On windows explorer, i selected show hidden files, but wasnt able to find anything in the download folder. I got out to the main storage, and then searched for dos. I have found 3 folders all within get this: android/data and NOT download. i dont know why it said that the directory is there? But now i have another problem. There is 3 dos folders. 1 " com.fishstix.dosboxlauncher" this contains 2 folders -->files-->dosbox 2 " dosbox" no folders in this 3 " com.fishstix.dosbox" 1 folder names " files" I shall try copying the whole game folder into the first one, see if it clicks, if not, i try the 3rd. I'll report back. I would delete this, but maybe somebody will struggle like me, so i leave it here. The solution is simple: The motherfucking dumb app instucts you to mount using this command " mount c ~/folder/bla/bla/bla Thats bullshit! The problem was all along that stupid sign this: ~ You dont need it. The cmd cant recognize it. Remove it and you can easily mount anything with the command " mount c /bla/bla/bla" fucking hell. Dumb developers bro. [link] [comments]
Transfer files (drag and drop?) between PCs on same network? Posted: 29 Dec 2019 02:30 PM PST I have a few desktop computers and a Surface Book 2. I'd like for an easy way (drag and drop?) to transfer files easily from one to the other. I know I can use OneDrive, but that requires uploading/waiting/downloading from the internet. The Wifi Transfer Tools work, but they often require you to use a web interface/connection each time. SD Cards work but are inconvenient. I've looked a bit and can't find a safe yet easy way of doing this. Is there a way (or app?) that will let me easily drag and drop from one location to another? IE: "Send" files to my surface from my desktop.. or browse and pull files from my desktop from the surface itself? Both are on the same wifi network, both running Windows 10 [link] [comments]

Outputting audio to two Bluetooth headphones? Posted: 29 Dec 2019 03:16 PM PST I was wondering if there was a way to output audio to two different pairs of bluetooth headphones for netflix for example. I've read that Voicemeeter banana can do that but I'm also not sure how to use that, thanks! [link] [comments]
Customize only Start Menu Button Posted: 29 Dec 2019 01:58 PM PST Is there a way to change the Start Menu button? I mean, not with Classic Shell, I want to keep the menu as it is, just change that windows icon. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Bluetooth Mouse - Windows 10 Asus and Surface Posted: 29 Dec 2019 12:53 PM PST I just had a weird situation and I'm not sure how to solve it or what is causing the problem. I have had a logitech mouse for a couple years that has worked fine that suddenly stopped working. I assumeed it was the battery so I switced out the battery that wasn't working. I have a friend who also has a logitech mouse who lent it to me to try and solve the problem. This is where things got bad after trying to test his mouse on my laptop it didn't work when I gave it back to him he said his mouse isn't working either anymore we don't know what to do so were taking a shot with this sub to help us and see if it could be windows going on a crazy rejection of the devices. Creating a hardware equalizer to control each application's volume Posted: 29 Dec 2019 04:22 PM PST For a while I've wanted to create a mixer board with a lcd that can basically emulate the audio mixer in Windows. Does anything like this exist, assuming no, any ideas how feasible it is to make from a software side? I've written a few drivers for Unix in college but nothing for Windows ever. Posted: 29 Dec 2019 05:42 AM PST For example, if I try to run CPU-Z, Windows shows the UAC dialogue that blocks all of my screens and will not go away until I click either Yes or No. I do not want to disable UAC, because I think it is a good safety measure to prevent a rogue application from getting administrator privilege without my consent. But it seems pointless and annoying to click Yes every time for the exact same application. Windows could verify that the application is exactly the same since last UAC elevation, by storing and comparing its hash values. And when the application is exactly the same and I gave it the admin permission, I don't think there is any case that I would not allow admin for that app this time. This is the same for some scripts I wrote to automate some of the works. I have to run it as admin each time, which is annoying and time-consuming. If it is the exact same script (and even written by myself) that I allowed admin, why wouldn't I allow admin this time? Can't Windows just add something like "Always yes for this app" to the UAC? Of course, one loophole could be a malicious app is trying to launch CMD.exe with malicious arguments. In this case, Windows can also verify that the arguments are the same since last time, or Windows could disable "Always yes" for certain pre-defined applications like CMD or PowerShell. For scripts, Windows could provide a separate interface for remembering the admin rights. Since there is no such feature now, I am thinking about using a background service that does the thing I described above: running as admin, remembers hashes for some application I have specified, and lets me to make it launch those applications without showing UAC. Is there such software? If not, I am thinking about creating one. [link] [comments]
How to easily navigate an "open file" window to the file I'm trying to select Posted: 29 Dec 2019 07:44 PM PST Recent mac convert here getting the lay of the land for shortcuts and things. Something I've been having trouble with is any time a prompt window open for either "Open" or "Select File" like on a website upload, I feel like there must be a shortcut for how to renavigate this window since it's been clunky everytime I've tried. On Mac, my workflow is to find the file i'm looking for, either in spotlight or just the finder window itself, and then just dragging it to the prompt window navigates to the path where that file is located. On windows, it copies the file to the location instead, if you try that. Is there a faster solution than just navigating this window through a series of folders anytime i'm trying to upload something? [link] [comments]
Is Win 10 Home S still upgradable to Win 10 Home for no charge? Posted: 29 Dec 2019 01:20 PM PST So, my former laptop has kicked the bucket, in a non-repairable way, so I've decided to buy a cheap work mule for lectures and writing, and the model I've found seems to be most satisfactory. Only problem is that it has Windows 10 Home S (64). I've understood that it has at least been possible to do the upgrade from Win 10 S to regular Win 10 Home for no charge, but I would like to receive some confirmation for my beliefs before I make any purchases. I've found the MS articles from their help sections, but I just really need to know if this upgrade for free is still (currently) possible – just to soothe my anxiety. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Dec 2019 12:38 PM PST I don't know if this is the correct place to post this but here goes. I just put together a Dell Inspiron, I5-4590, 8GB RAM, a 160GB SSD and a 1TB HDD, along with an nVidea Video Card Windows 10 Professional. I put this together from parts I had and wanted to gift it to my three nephews. What I want to do is since each of them have xbox accounts I want to have their user folders on the 1TB HDD, and leave the operating system and programs on the SSD. My questions are: I am pretty sure that they can use their xbox username an password in Windows 10, so they can keep each one separate. How to setup the 1TB HDD for their user data when I add them as users on the box. I would also like to keep each of them as normal users, not admins. Was going to just use Windows Defender, no Office, but they like to play games, Fortnight, Minecraft. Any suggestions to Teen proof a Windows 10 box would be greatly appreciated. Posted: 29 Dec 2019 07:24 AM PST normally when I take a screenshot in windows 10, it'd take a second, then pop up with a notification from the xbox app saying it's been saved in my "captures" folder. But all of a sudden, all that happens when I press win+alt+prt,sc, all that happens is the screen dims for a second and no notification pops up and no picture is saved. How can I stop this? Full Screen Optimization - Disabling doesn't work. Posted: 29 Dec 2019 04:24 AM PST Windows 10 FSO is just the worst! I'm running Windows 10 (1909) and some of the games just refuse to go all full screen. I need to see that juicy screen tearing, I need to. [link] [comments]
Freezing and cursor flickering Posted: 29 Dec 2019 01:41 PM PST NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE RIGHT PLACE TO ASK. So can someone help me. For some reason windows will randomly start freezing and glitching out along with the cursor just flickering on and off. The only way it stops freezing when a application is open is if I hold the windows or ALT key, Or if I ALT+F4 every open app. It makes it impossible to do anything productive or play games [link] [comments]
