My Admob account was banned for invalid traffic after 10 years of development Posted: 18 Dec 2019 04:48 AM PST So simple. I never violated their rules and did not even receive reasonable warnings. They banned my account for invalid traffic without explanation, because their algorithms are proprietary and classified. I filed an appeal, but it remains unanswered for more than a week. I covered it in my previous post "Let the evil corporation die" where also shared my thoughts about Google itself and the prospect of developing for Android in general. Now for the more interesting part. My post was removed by moderators for violating rule 4. This rule states "Rule 4: No app takedown posts without desc of app". But my post was not about the app takedown, all my apps are fine, so I don't even know what specific app could be discussed. No one removes similar posts about the bans of the Admob account so this made me think that they don't like what kind of conversation we started yesterday about Google itself. At first I thought that the mod removed my post by mistake simply by following the complaint of one of the users who also quoted rule 4 to me without reading the post. But what's even more interesting is that after 3 messages written to the mods I did not receive a single response in a day. So they have nothing to answer. I think this is funny because it's very similar to what I described yesterday in the "Let the evil corporation die" post about communicating with Google, when you are removed for nothing and then they don't talk to you. Now I'm interested in somehow moderators of /androiddev connected with Google and how long this post will live. [link] [comments]

Living in fear of the Ban Hammer is not living at all Posted: 17 Dec 2019 08:47 PM PST Stories of developers getting banned by mistake on Google Play and getting banned for obscure policy violations are on the rise lately. The other side is getting banned on Admob for "potential to generate invalid traffic". Whatever that means. When you work for over 4 years to build a user base, gain trust and start earning an actual living off of Google Play and Admob, waking up to an email that your account has been suspended can take you to dark places. The sad part is there aren't simple alternatives to GPS as they dominate the ecosystem and publishing anywhere else will net you less than 10% of what you get from GPS. This is painfuly true in African countries which would be 90% of my market. There has been talk of unionizing and talk of Dev Events walk outs but these will never work. The people with voices are the ones who can also be heard by Google appeals if they get banned so they have no need to move with us. In Basic terms, we are f**ked. [link] [comments]
How can I avoid invalid Admob traffic? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 11:52 AM PST I'm about to update my app on the Play Store with Admob. (I've been using a test Admob ID when testing). Is there anything I can do to prevent getting a stroke on my Admob account or getting banned? [link] [comments]

Posted: 18 Dec 2019 06:56 AM PST Hi all! I've received a couple emails over the past two months from someone at Google (I have confirmed the email is coming from an @Google.com email address) and it seems legit, but I'm wondering if anyone has gotten a similar email or has any positive/negative opinions about this: TITLE: AdMob consultation with [name] BODY: Hi [my name], My name is [name] from Google AdMob team and I work with developers to advise on high value AdMob opportunities. I'm reaching out because I noticed some opportunity for [my company name] to grow and would love to sync with you. Feel free to find a slot in my calendar through this form. If you prefer to receive monetization recommendations through email, please reply "Email". Looking forward to speaking with you! Thanks, [name] They also sent a follow up email almost exactly a month after. Any thoughts? Thanks for reading! EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: I have one app in the App Store and Play Store, and it DOES use AdMob for monetization for both Android and iOS. The app has 50,000+ installs on each platform, but targets a niche market for online entertainment. I was getting a VERY good eCPM rate in early November 2019 (like high $0.20s and low $0.30s for basically banner ads at the top or bottom of each page), but after the follow up email from Google, my rate tanked to the mid-$0.10s, and the iOS eCPM is super low compared to what it normally is. Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:52 AM PST So I extensively use an app for saving the Status of a WhatsApp contact. But today, a question popped into my head, will these apps be able to access "WhatsApp" directory after Scoped Storage goes into full effect? With the research that I've done, I got to know apps will only be able to access app specific directories and public directories like "Pictures", "Movies", etc. [link] [comments]
What do you do before using your app as reference? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 08:03 AM PST I'm done with my first app that I want to use it as reference when applying for jobs. It was just a practice project, but I'm happy with how it turned out. However I'm not sure on how to "show it off". Is it a good idea to just upload the project on github and put the link for the code in my resume? Is there some precautions that should be made before posting your code and making it publicly available? Is it a good idea to put an app on the play store that you are not looking to make a profit out of, but just to make it easily accessible in case of having to show it off? In my head I have this scenario, where I apply to a job, and the first people who will see my application and who will look at my resume will probably not be a programmer. They can't evaluate my knowledge by looking at my code. However if they can just look at my app in the play store, they can see if they like it or not, and maybe my chances of getting to the next step would be better. However I heard from some people on this sub that they don't think putting the app on the play store would help me at all. [link] [comments]

Posted: 18 Dec 2019 04:31 AM PST I know there's a lot of discussion about this and this has probably been asked over and over and over... But I have two strikes on the Play Store and from what I know my account would be terminated with the 3d strike. Since I'm a really clumsy person I got the strikes very easily (forgot to add privacy policy within the app as an example) I really feel I'll get that 3d strike in a not so far future. When/If that'll happen, from what I've read from other posts, I can forget about the Play Store right? I can't create a brand new account and restartr publishing from there, I can't publish with the account of one of my relatives, right? [link] [comments]

Motion Layout with Edge-to-edge and paddings. Posted: 18 Dec 2019 09:29 AM PST Decided to go Edge-to-edge with a new app, because I really like the idea of using whole screen estate. I completely understand that this is my issue with motion layout only, but maybe someone can share experience/thoughts on how to make both features play together nicely. Maybe even with help of insetter, which i didn't spend too much time playing with to be fair. I can't set the root view padding, because i need that extra space to be gradient colour. And making whole root layout having background colour will cause overdraw, so that's not a good option. [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Dec 2019 09:22 AM PST I want to build a sports reporting app which will show live professional sports scores (NBA, NFL, MLB, etc.), as well as original sports articles. Am I legally not allowed to use team and player names and logos in my app? If not, is there a way I can get around this such as using abbreviated names and/or fake logos? [link] [comments]

Functional programming and Android. Can it be done? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 07:55 AM PST Just for some context I am currently employed as a web developer mostly writing Java and Javascript. I have always been interested in Android and want to start learning Kotlin. At work some of the tech leads are pushing to introduce functional programming. Our CTO really likes Elixir, but more so he really just wants us to start writing our services in a functional paradigm to cut down on complexity and maintenance. I think we'll be doing a sort of hackathon in the near future where the idea would be to use a functional language. So I'm at this crossroads where I could go full steam ahead either on Android/Kotlin or functional programming, but I'm wondering if I can kill two birds with one stone here. Can an Android app be written in a fully functional manner using Kotlin? I guess I'm looking for thoughts and advice here. Thanks for anything. [link] [comments]
Is it safe to use MotionLayout for production code? Any other alternative suggestions? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 09:16 AM PST I would like to know you guys' opinions on that one. Is it safe/suggested to use MotionLayout in production code for animations? What is your alternatives? Thanks all [link] [comments]
In-app feedback library (Google forms survey) Posted: 18 Dec 2019 08:18 AM PST Hi, I hope this post is "relevant" enough. I am looking for inspiration for a new side project, I have come up with one but would be interested in knowing whether it would appeal to others too. I have created a google forms. It only has 3 questions and will take perhaps 2-3 minutes to fill out. Please do so if you have stumbled upon this post! Thanks! [link] [comments]
Would SQLite be the best storage option for this app example? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 02:07 AM PST (BTW, I'm not a scientist and this is all hypothetical and made up) Let's say I want to create a health app where, if you enter the food you consumed, it calculates and shows the calorie intake of the day, fat percentage, mood level, risk of early death, etc. etc. etc. Example: I consume 2 apples. These attributes change to:
Now, if I consume an orange, these values change once again. Would an SQLite database, in which a table is created for each "Person", work best? The rows might be these attributes. The columns might be the "Person"s. In Java, if I run a function like timmy.consume(Food.orange, 2);, I would do the calculations and make changes to Timmy's SQLite table cells. Is this the best form of Android storage I should use? I'm new to Android dev. Thanks! :) [link] [comments]
why does the emulator work better on mac? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 07:46 AM PST Hello, does anyone know why Android Studio's emulators run so much smoother on mac OS? i'm just talking about the responsiveness of the emulator, how smooth the screen transitions are, etc. it always seems to perform much better on my mac than my PC, despite the fact that they have similar hardware specs. thanks [link] [comments]
What do you use to build a landing page for your App? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 06:52 AM PST Hi, I'm trying to find out what's the best landing page builder for mobile apps. If you have a landing page for your app, it would be nice if you could answer a few quick questions.
Thanks. [link] [comments] |
