List of things I wish Gboard would do, yet Swype does

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 09:31 AM PST

    • Select All shortcut (in Swype: glide from Swype key to A key)
    • Cut, Copy, Paste shortcuts (in Swype: glide from Swype key to X, C, or V key, respectively)
    • Prevent the next automatic space (in Swype: glide from spacebar key to backspace key)
    • Highlight word with a single tap (in Swype: tap the Swype key to instantly select the word at the cursor)
    • Show the current prediction (the word that is going to be kept if you keep typing) in the suggestions bar (in Swype: the predicted word is first in the suggestions bar, bolded, and colored to stand out)- so that you don't have to glance all the way up into the actual app to see what word your glide generated- so that you can tap the suggestion to get the next word suggestions to display instead (in Gboard: you have to tap the spacebar – not only is this less convienient, but if I didn't want a space, I now have to backspace as well)
    • add suggestions to your dictionary by tapping them
    • change auto-capitalization setting (in Swype: you can do this in Settings)
    • have more intense haptic feedback (Gboard has an "intensity" setting but it's really changing duration; in Swype: you still can't change the intensity, yet it is more intense than Gboard, which I prefer... ideally, would be customizable)
    • editing mode shortcut (in Swype: glide from the Swype key to the "?123" key)

Swype is a dinosaur of a keyboard now and I wish I could use Gboard's superior word prediction, spacebar gliding, backspace gliding, gif, emoji, voice, and other features... but Swype is still easier for me to be productive with because of the list above.

Question: on Gboard, how do I show the tools when just starting to type?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 01:55 AM PST

Switching from Pixel 2 to Pixel 4, I lost various settings of apps, including Gboard.

I know it's a tiny thing, but still want to ask this:

On the Pixel 2, I had the tools available right away, above the keyboard characters, so that I could quickly launch the clipboard tool :

    https://i.imgur.com/oOeMN4s.png

Now I get this so I have another step to reach those (need to press the arrow icon):

    https://i.imgur.com/M0RCYSv.png

Is there any way to show the tools right away? I tried checking it in various settings and can't find it.

[DEV] New Habit App Backed by Behavioral Science

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 04:52 AM PST

    Hey Family,

I just released my new app that I think many of you will find it very useful. first off, I just want to point out that I'm not fluent in English so forgive me for the grammar mistakes in this post.

I introduce you to Habit66, a new app based on the idea that it takes on average less than 66 days to form a new habit and "Never Break the Chain" principle.

    How it works?

    1. You add a new habit (exercice, writing, drawing regularly...)
    2. Register session when you complete
    3. Choose how would you like to reward youself after the session
    4. Repeat from /2 until you hit 66 days

You will find more details in the google play listing: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.app.habit66

Thank you for taking the time to read this post, My app is still in beta that's it's very valuable for me to hear your feedback and critics about it.

    bluetooth alert app

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 10:08 AM PST

Im trying to find an app that will periodically scan for bluetooth devices and alert me with a tone or vibration. There was once an application for Windows called BluetoothView that did this but I am trying to find an app for android.

This type of app is great, for example, if you live with many people you can easily know when they come home or if they have left, by using the 'First Detected On' and 'Last Detected On' fields.

Anyhow, does anyone know of an app that will do this for android?

    Simultaneous swiping keyboard?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 05:40 AM PST

    Hiya.

So there's obviously a plethora of Android keyboards out there that allow swiping/gesture typing.

But i seem to recall a keyboard or two that allowed two-finger swiping on the keyboard. I think one keyboard was called Nin69 or something.

Anyway, anyone know of any Android keyboards that do multi-swipe typing?

Is there a reddit app that allows copying images to clipboard?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 08:24 AM PST

Just switching back to Android from a year on iOS and I miss the ability to be able to copy an image to send it from a reddit post rather than saving it to camera roll or forwarding the whole thread. Is there any app that supports this or another way to do it? Running OP 7 Pro on OxygenOS 10.0.2

[DEV] Greens Picker help with varied consumption of greens and vegetables

    Posted: 16 Dec 2019 10:38 PM PST

Hey im the developer of Greens Picker and, as the title says, is a tool for people wanting a varied diet of greens and vegetables.

    Greens Picker - Google Play

It's not a tool for vegetarians or lifestyles in that way, but simply a tool for people wanting to try other fruits and vegetables, than what they usually buy. It stemmed from a wanting of my girlfriend to buy other fruits and vegetables, as she wanted to try something else, so i made this app to help her choose a random fruit, random vegetable, or generate a shopping list from pre compiled list that you, as the user, can switch on or off!

The app is also up on the Apple Store if any of you have girlfriends/friends/family members that might also be interested, but does not have the luxury of a wonderful android phone ;)

Ps. if any of you are interested in the app, but doesn't have the means to buy the app, send me a PM and i might send you a promo code, here in these Christmas days! :D

Optimal older versions of NOW BLOATED apps? [GMaps, Spotify, etc]

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 04:13 AM PST

So there used to be quite a few awesome reddit loved apps that slowly seemed to take a turn for the dark side, whether out of a desire of monetization, or just assuming everyone runs top spec hardware.

Some have been just the utter epitomes of Wirth's Law, where the improvements in hardware are completely nullified by needlessly bloated software.

Here's a few I was hoping someone could recommend good-ole-days apks of:-

No. App Optimal Version (Link) Thanks to
    1 Google Maps
    2 Spotify
    3 Linkedin
    4 Facebook
    5 ES File Explorer [v3.2.5.5 July 2015](www.apkmirror.com/apk/es-global/es-file-explorer/es-file-explorer-3-2-5-5-release/es-file-explorer-3-2-5-5-android-apk-download) /u/delpiero74
    6 Quickpic (pre Cheetah buyout)

Would you guys happen to know good versions, at least in your experience, that manage a good trade-off of speed, and features, of the apps listed, and maybe others that didn't occur to me?

A browser that can open links in new tab with a single tap?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2019 10:17 PM PST

I'm looking for a browser where I can set the default behavior when tapping on a link to open it in a new tab in the background (keeping the focus on the current tap). And have a different way to open it in the current tab. I've been looking at settings and add-ons for different browsers but I can't find it.

Google Fit - random bike rides

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 02:19 AM PST

So whilst at home doing absolutely nothing my Google Fit will regularly auto detect a bike ride. I don't know if it's an insult to the way I walk or something but I do not know how it detects a bike ride from anything I'm doing. It may even just be happening whilst the phone is plugged in charging. It's really annoying because my active points will go up and I have to manually go in and delete the activity. It's always close to zero travel distance and has a very low calorie estimation, and I've seen it be as short as 9 minutes and as long as 2 hours. I assume it must be an issue with how it reads my gyroscope or something. My step count seems to be pretty consistently accurate with Samsung Health. When it works it seems to work pretty damn well, but when it decides I go on bike rides to nowhere every other day it's kind of almost unusable with the saving grace being that I can delete them pretty easily and it clears it from my move minutes / active points.

Has anyone else had this issue? I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S9

App to create QR codes for plants

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 05:46 AM PST

Here's what I'm wanting to do: Type up info for each plant I own (hardiness, watering, sunlight requirements, etc), then print out QR codes to stick on each pot so I can just scan the code and have the info pop up on my phone.

Is there an app for this?

    YouTube Downloader with timeline support

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 03:03 AM PST

    Hi, everyone.

New poster here, so let me first apologize if I make any mistakes. Also, mods please remove if I accidentally misread any of the rules.

My need: watching YouTube videos while in transit/with no WiFi.

My problem: spotty WiFi coverage on some areas, extremely low (180MB/month) data plan.

My request: app that takes my YouTube feed videos (as in, the list available at https://youtube.com/feed/subscriptions) and:

    • Checks my feed periodically
    • Automatically downloads unwatched videos while on WiFi, preferably while charging and having a time limit for how far back to download
    • Marks videos as watched on my feed when I watch them on the app (preferred, but not absolutely necessary)
    • Automatically deletes watched videos from the phone after a set amount of time (highly preferred)
    • Has video speed controls (because I usually watch faster than 1x)

So far, every single app I've come across either lets me download individual videos or wants me to manually resubscribe to my several subscriptions (YouTube Go, which then doesn't even let me download videos), or doesn't do it automatically, or doesn't even let me see the feed.

Is my Google-fu lacking, or is such an app non-existant?

Thanks in advance for any input!

    Viper4Android settings?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 02:11 AM PST

What settings do you use for Viper? I'm new to thinking about audio so it would be great to have a start before I customise further.

Pixel 3XL, latest build. Headphones are Plantronics Backbeat 2. Sometimes, rarely, I hook via bluetooth to a set of Micca mb42's.
