Manjaro keeps asking for a password to access a non-passworded Windows share Posted: 28 Dec 2019 10:55 AM PST I'm running a mostly stock Manjaro install, and I can see my Windows share in Dolphin, however, when I click it it keeps asking for a username and password despite the share not requiring them. I've tried clicking "ok" without inputting anything, but it doesn't work. The share itself works, as I can access it from other Windows PCs. Manjaro also has no problem accessing other Linux shares. Thanks in advance. EDIT: In case it's relevant, I'm using the KDE version of Manjaro. Some more info: I can access it (no password is requested) using X-plore file manager on my Android phone, so Windows isn't refusing Linux outright. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Dec 2019 10:13 AM PST I just installed ubuntu 18.4, found out my wifi did not work and upgraded to 19.04 in hopes that it would work. I have tried many different forums and guides but nothing seems to work. My wifi card is intel wifi 6 ax201, and one source said that the card is not supported yet. Should i just wait for the card to get support or can i do anything about the problem? Thanks in advance! [SOLVED!] Updated to 19.10, tanks for the help! [link] [comments] |
Port Forwarding from host to guest (virtualbox) Posted: 28 Dec 2019 05:01 AM PST So I've always been quite confused about ports. But here's just an example I've come across (just started playing around with Virtual Box). So basically I'm transferring a text file from my Windows 10 machine (Host OS) to Ubuntu (Guest OS using Virtual Box). I've added this to the Network Setting: https://i.imgur.com/ASrQjIq.png And from Bash on the Host OS, I can use the following command From what I'm reading SSH/SCP uses port 22 by default. But with port forwarding setting as it is, does this mean I'm transferring the file from my Host OS via port 3022 (outbound?) to port 22 of the guest OS (inbound?)? Is my understanding of outbound/inbound accurate? The scp command has the option -P for port, but there's no specifying outbound or inbound, which is why I'm thinking I have this whole concept wrong. Hope my question makes sense. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Laptop wont wakeup from sleep mode. Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS Posted: 28 Dec 2019 03:33 AM PST Ive looked at several post others have made, but I dont want to go about changing things that I dont really understand. My laptop is: Acer Aspire 5 Slim, AMD Ryzen 3 3200U, Vega 3 Graphics The blacklight on the keyboard turns on, but thats about it. Its an unresponsive blackscreen. In the bios, its says its enabled to work after lid opens, and SATA is set to ACHI. These were two solutions that I saw for others with similar trouble. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Dec 2019 12:58 PM PST Hey, I know how to create user accounts of all kinds. And I know how the access control works. But this is something I havent figured out. How can I create a user that has only read and exec rights to one folder (I can do this), BUT he cant have any access to anything else than that one folder. Not even read. (I dunno how to do this part) How could I do this? Is this possible without literally setting permissions of all other files and folders on the system? And actually doing it that way is impossible, because you cant set the root folder to read only by root, right? I guess you can, but that would be a huge pain. And thats not what I want to do. Also before you think or say that you could set the superfolder permissions to no rights, and that would prevent them from cd .. , it wouldnt. lol Im doing this because I am making a user that runs and accesses my HTTP server. It cant have access to anything else than the HTTP server file folder. And no, it doesnt need sudo to run the server, because ill use port above 1024. Thanks very much in advance guys. Pop_OS 19.04. Lenovo T480. System doesnt appear to follow any particular battery profile setting. Posted: 28 Dec 2019 09:08 AM PST The system seems to consistently dim the screen at around 1 minute and turn off the screen at around two minutes. Even at a full charge. Altering the low battery or on battery profiles does not appear to do anything. What must I do so the system correctly follows either of these profiles for when the system is running on battery? Help with wireless: Network Is Unreachable Posted: 28 Dec 2019 06:54 AM PST I have a Lenovo Yoga 730 running Debian. I can't seem to connect to wifi. Ethernet works ok if I use a line connection. When I connect with Wifi, the connection seems to happen, the Network Manager shows the status as "connected", but I can't actually use any network services. Based on some google searches, I have 2 pieces of information that might be useful:
Trying to reset the wifi using sudo ifconfig ____ up/down doesn't seem to ever resolve anything. It seems like for some reason the routing system on my platform isn't doing what its supposed to. [link] [comments] |
Keeping third party themes up-to-date Posted: 28 Dec 2019 06:40 AM PST I have several themes installed from gnome-look. How am I going to keep track of updates when they come out. This is especially crucial in case of icons. To keep things simple and easy to backup/restore, I install all the themes in Home. How can I know when developer post an update and how can I update them without installing the theme from the start? [link] [comments] |

What precisely is X? And its connection to WMs? Posted: 27 Dec 2019 10:08 PM PST And what are its alternatives if any. Drive Permissions Sync Between OS's Posted: 28 Dec 2019 09:40 AM PST I have a ZFS-formatted drive I'm sharing between Linux (latest Ubuntu) and MacOS, and want to sync directory/file permissions. Right now, directories (and their contents) on one OS are locked down on the other due to mismatched permissions/users. I can manually chmod the directories to change this, but that's reactionary. The username is the same on both systems. It's possible the UID is different. It's also possible Finder vs Gnome defaults to different permissions when copying files. It's also possible I can do something under ZFS settings to force default permissions/users. I have other drives where I was able to solve this issue, but it's been some time and I don't remember how I did it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Error when copying files from local drive to USB drive Posted: 28 Dec 2019 12:28 AM PST I'm running mint 19.2 and have had little to no issues so far. I'm running into an issue though I can't seem to resolve. I've been using handbreak to encode blue ray discs into m4v files to add to my iTunes library on my MacBook. When I try to copy the file I want to move to my usb drive I get an error "no such file or directory exists ", but the file is there and I can open the file in VLC no issues but it won't let me copy the file. The file is 3.2 GB and my USB drive is 16 GB and using exFAT for the format, and running lsblk in terminal shows the USB drive is mounted. I have tried other USB drives but still get the same error. Any help is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
