Why does the brightness adjustment not work when the laptop is running on battery power?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 08:24 AM PST

    Hello!
    Help me please.
The brightness on the Dell 3542 laptop does not change when running on battery power. All drivers and software are installed, Dell SupportAssist does not show problems. When working from the mains, the brightness is adjusted, in the BIOS, the brightness is regulated when working on battery power.
The matrix and matrix cable were replaced. Now there are current drivers and BIOS.
    What to do?

    CPU goes nuts on start

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 01:41 PM PST

Hi, after installing windows on ssd and updating it to insider preview build 19037.1 CPU goes to 100% on start and gets to hot in short period of time, both after being shut down or just put to sleep. Microsoft software protection platform service as process consuming the most of CPU. I tried all those steps from net to stop/disable said service but it shows. Anyone knows what could be causing this problem? Laptop is acer aspire 3 a315-51-54za, just upgraded to 1tb ssd and additional 8gb ram to its 4gb, cpu is intel i5 7200.

Laptop fan changing speed constantly during the gaming session

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 01:15 PM PST

Hi, I just got my new gaming laptop last Friday (Eluktronics MAG-15), but there's one thing that scares me. Whenever I tried to play a slightly heavy games like CSGO or Overwatch, my laptop fan went insanely loud and the fan speed kept changing constantly (getting faster for 1-2 seconds - getting slower- getting faster again) rhythmically like "Breathing" even though I didn't change my game (same game, same map) and my character just stand still.

The CPU temperature when I played CSGO was around 60-70, but the fan speed and loudness changes repeatedly every 1 or 2 second.

I know that gaming laptop usually has a loud fan, my old gaming laptop (ASUS ROG GL502VT) was also quite loud, but its fan speed was constant and only change when I closed the game/changed the game.

However, this new laptop kept changing its fan speed every 1-2 second during gaming. Is this a normal fan behavior? Or did I get a defective product?

Considering a switch from my MacBook Pro 2012 to... something else

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 01:12 PM PST

I bought a MacBook Pro in 2012. It has been, honestly, a fantastic laptop. Last year I was having trouble with it being super slow, so I switched out the ram and installed a new SSD hard drive. It works absolutely fantastic again!

But people keep on warning me that, being 7 years old, it will probably keep deteriorating more and more frequently. And I'm tired of getting all the apple-hating comments.

I want to start researching what I would replace it with, in case it does start crapping out on me. I won't be able to afford another Mac, and honestly, as much as I love it, I'm still not sure I'd be willing to throw down another $1600 on a computer, even if I could afford it. I don't use it to its fullest capacity, at least. Mostly internet browsing, the odd game (1 or 2 smaller games, like Nancy Drew or Portal), and google-brand word processing if I ever have to work from home. When I bought the mac, I was editing movies and photoshopping, but I don't do that nearly as much anymore. I also love the battery life. I still get about 6 hours of use before having to plug it in.

I'd like something about the same size or bigger than my current laptop, which is 13 inches, specifically because I can't stand typing on a smaller keyboard than that.

Does anybody have any recommendations for laptops for basic use that I described above?

If you need more info, let me know.

    Strong Laptops for Multimedia Student?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 12:26 PM PST

Hello! So I'm going to be a college student soon and I'll be studying advertising and I need a laptop for it, and college in general.

I'm looking for a strong, efficient laptop. I'm big on multimedia (video editing, graphic design, etc) and my classes will too. Preferably looking for something that isn't cheap or overly expensive. And just overall well rounded!

    Any recommendations?

Help me choose a laptop for school?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 04:02 AM PST

I just recently purchased the Dell XPS 13 and it's beautiful and the perfect size, but I'm already having freezing issues, and it's getting very hot when I do multiple tasks like chrome and powerpoint, word etc. I don't really like the display either, it doesn't look too crisp. So I'm thinking about returning it and getting something else.

I'm looking for something $1000 or under, light and portable (I'm carrying my computer most of the time so this is a must), has long battery life, has long lastability (I want to get at LEAST 3 yrs out of it), a nice display/color accuracy, 13" at the most because I like to fit it in my mini backpack or purse. I don't need too much storage because I periodically transfer all my files to a USB drive. Also I need to run multiple tasks decently without freezing

I am a future teacher who does some creative projects with Adobe software — Drawing, video and photo editing, so it would be good if it could run Adobe programs decently. I use word and powerpoint a lot and I often have many tabs open at once including Youtube videos.

I am seriously considering the 2017 13" macbook air which is on sale on Amazon and at Best Buy.. the i5 8gb 128gb SSD version. It's $700 which is good for my budget. After doing a lot of research, it seems like creative people prefer Macs and Macs are good for video editing and getting stuff done reliably. I've never used a macbook before but am very curious to try it. It also seems like Macs have better resale value so I could actually sell it once I'm done with it... there's also a Macbook Pro on there for $1,099 which is a bit out of my budget

But there are a lot of options out there right now. People say that other pcs have better specs for cheaper since the MBA dual processor is outdated, does it really make that big of a difference? I was interested in the surface pro 7 which is selling for $800, surface laptop for about 1000, HP spectre etc... I've had bad experiences with my HP's dying after 2 years so not too sure about that. what should I go with?? I was super interested in the surface pro 7 but not being able to have it on my lap comfortably would bother me and I'm not too fond of the textured keyboard design.

Asus Zenbook Flip or Dell Inspiron 7000 (2 in 1) ?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 03:43 AM PST

I want to buy a new laptop with the following features:

    • intel i5 processor or above (8th generation or above)
    • good battery life
    • Works for running multiple programs at a time (and good for coding)
    • 2 in 1 convertible (I'll need it for note taking too)
    • Lightweight and slim

So far i've settled between the Asus Zenbook Flip or the Dell Inspiron 7000 series. I am really confused as to which one i should choose. I am hesitant about the Dell one since I've heard the battery life is not that great and haven't locked in to the Asus one too because Dell seems to be the more durable one.

Which one should i choose? I am open to other suggestions that satisfy the above needs

    Thanks!

What happens when I restart my laptop after upgrading the ram and SSD?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 03:07 AM PST

Sorry for the noob question, it's the first time I'm doing such thing. I've watched a couple of videos and I know how to physically insert the ram and replace the HDD with an SSD (after cloning it of course) but my question is:

Once I put back my laptop in one piece and I power it on, is it going to boot normally like nothing happened or the BIOS interface will show up asking me to do weird things?
