Help with choosing a Gaming laptop for a 7yr old. Posted: 12 Dec 2019 09:57 AM PST Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask. Last month I had a tree fall threw my roof & my house is under construction right now, the last month has been really hectic. So I'm last minute shopping for Christmas.. I'd like to buy my 7yr old son a gaming laptop, he's into stuff like Roblox right now & wants to learn how to code and make his own videos. I bought my daughter a cheaper laptop a few years ago and she's always having problems with it not having enough memory to run her games. I would like to buy one now that I won't have those problems with. If possible I would like to spend less than $1,000 on everything. I would have looked them up and compared more but I don't have much time left and I honestly don't know much about computers. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Here's one I was looking at but I'm not sure if their might be a better option -Acer Nitro 5 AN515 Laptop: Core i5-8300H, 15.6inch Full HD IPS Display, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, NVidia GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Graphics... Posted: 12 Dec 2019 01:33 PM PST I know most of these have been reviewed extensively, but not many people have been as anal as me when trying to pick "their next laptop". I actually bought all of these before picking one so got to play with them side-by-side. I won't share my pick till later so as to no bias. If you have any "is the X on Y better than the X on Z" type questions... fire away. [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Dec 2019 01:24 PM PST Hey all. So I bought an asus rog strix 3 gaming laptop and a week later bought a cooling pad to go with it. I have the pad on full right under it...and it doesnt seem to make a difference. Am I doing something wrong or was it just a pointless purchase? Either way, any advice? And it was an Aicheson laptop cooling pad 5 [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Dec 2019 03:08 AM PST English is not my first language. Also the links are mostly in Chinese. Apologies in advance! TL;DR: Razer picked BYD electronic to manufacture its laptops but neither of them had experience in designing and manufacturing laptops. The poor QC was almost destined to happen. While I have been researching on the quality control of Razer's Ultrabook (thanks reddit for letting me know the issues beforehand), I came across several articles/posts, mostly in Chinese and here I am sharing the gist. 1- BYD electronic is the ODM (original design manufacturer ) of Razer laptops. 2- To my knowledge, BYD electronic has never manufactured laptops prior to Razer Blade Stealth and Razer remains BYD electronic's only laptop client. To be fair, BYD electronic has been producing batteries for many laptop brands and manufactured tablets for HP in 2013 etc. But no other laptop brands have allowed BYD to become its ODM or even OEM. According to some Chinese news article, BYD electronic offers cheap solutions to compete. 3- Razer's negotiating power against BYD electronic is weak.
*Disclaimer: Most sources are mostly from Chinese posts, which are not 100% reliable. The rest are my analysis. * [link] [comments]
Buying a Laptop: The New Complicated Buying Experience Posted: 12 Dec 2019 12:50 PM PST Why is it so difficult to buy a new laptop these days? Im currently looking for a new one for school and the more research that I do the more and more long list of different names appear, I consider myself pretty tech savvy but since when a single laptop product has 20 different model numbers each one with a different purpose. What happen to just have a solid computer that has the good standards overall rather than just adding a high tech aspect only to lack on other area? Couldn't just be more easy to have one laptop with 10 hrs of battery, good screen, nice keyboard, I don't care so much for looks, it could have cardboard looks but as long as it performs. And have a simple name, like Lenovo #1. And the websites reviews don't help either, why would a 1 or 2 seconds difference matter when performing a task. So I continue to look for that magic time where buying a laptop wouldn't not be so complicated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Dec 2019 12:33 PM PST I'm looking to get an older gaming laptop for cheap, for LAN stuff and personal collection. Someone is selling an Asus G46VW, with a 660m and an I7-3630QM for 200. I can't haggle with this one, so is that price worth what I'd be getting? I know it won't be very strong, but can it run light games such as G-mod or some basic RTS? I've done some research and it looks like it'll be plenty capable for light/casual stuff, but I've also found laptops for 300-400 with a gpu several generations newer. Is the jump from a 660m to like an 840m, 960m, something like that going to be a big deal? I'm coming from another ROG with an 880m, and it has yet to let me down. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Good laptop for programming and gaming Posted: 12 Dec 2019 08:32 AM PST Hi All. I am going to buy bf a laptop. He's been using mine and its time for upgrade. I need one that has good performance and processing speeds. He is getting an undergrad degree in computer science and it will be used for coding. I know he is also interested in gaming on laptop but its primary function should be work/school so coding platforms etc.. I am considering thinkpad but i am not sure which model also i have read most thinkpads are not good fpr gaming. This may also not be a great option as i know his dream would be to get into game development.. but i think we're a bit far from that as of now. Ive read the lenovo legion is good for gaming but may lack other features which would reduce its practicality for school/ basic coding... Also may take up study time if he getz really into laptop gaming lol. My budget is around 11k. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! [link] [comments]
Is this a good deal? MSI laptop Posted: 12 Dec 2019 12:14 PM PST Hey. Long story short, I found this on Fb market for about $275. It's a 2017 with a nvidia Gtx 950m and 8gb ram. It seems like a good deal and fits within my budget. But I'm not totally sure. I'd be using it mostly for editing. Any info appreciated. Thanks.https://i.imgur.com/LXXm65h.jpg [link] [comments]
Old Asus n53sv orth putting effort into? Posted: 12 Dec 2019 11:57 AM PST Intel Core i7-2720QM 4GB RAM 7200rpm HDD and NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M - 1024 MB, Core: 672 MHz, Memory: 900 MHz, DDR3 VRAM, Shader 1344 MHz, 8.17.12.6549. So I am helping someone with a gift idea so old league of legends buddies can play again, I want to know if this machine is worth upgrading the RAM to at least 8GB maybe 12. Also thinking about throwing in on the gift and getting an SSD. Is the processor good enough for basic tasks and LoL? I am sorry if this is the wrong sub for this.. [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Dec 2019 11:36 AM PST Hi, I'm looking to see if there is a shell cover available for my new HP Pavilion 15z cw1598sa. I've looked at several Pavilion covers, especially from iPearl and mCover, but none would work with the long triangle hinge or the four diagonal feet my laptop has. I want a coloured one, or a clear shell that I can put stickers on. I don't like the dark grey colour on the front of my laptop nor do I like the metal casing! Can someone help? How do I go about putting stuff on SSD vs HDD? Posted: 12 Dec 2019 11:32 AM PST Hi, Sorry in advance if I am not using the correct terms, not great with this sort of thing I got a new laptop and it has 237GB on the SSD and 931GB on the HDD (although for some reason it was advertised as 256GB and 1TB, respectively- anyone know how it got eaten away if it's brand new lol?). On my old laptop I had 500GB on the SSD and have always just saved everything on it, without really thinking about it. It still had about half of the space left after a decade of me using it. However, now with this new laptop- already half of the space is used up after me installing a single game. I'm actually pretty sure it was almost already half way there when I first turned on the laptop. Am I supposed to be putting everything on HDD now if it's getting filled up so quickly??? I thought I was supposed to put programs on the SSD but I won't be able to at this rate. Just kinda confused Edit: I am thinking of maybe buying this SSD and replacing it with the one I have. Is it relatively easy to install for inexperienced people such as myself? [link] [comments]

Which laptop/printer should I buy? Posted: 12 Dec 2019 10:14 AM PST I am looking for a laptop and printer that I can use for business. I will be taking the printer into appointments with me and printing up custom made contracts for my clients. I am looking for something lightweight and compact that I can easily carry around with me. I am also looking to spend less than $1000.00. The laptop does not need to be powerful, it's primary function will be running Microsoft office. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.
