Good battery life (7hrs irl) with fast charging capabilities. Wont need best specs nor a 2 in 1. But id like a ***2K HDR matte*** screen, (im using a surface pro now and the glossy screen is killing me), and an i7 with at least 8G of ram

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. -Windows

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. -16 inch max, 13inch minimum

Looking for power and durability with some sex appeal under 2k.

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 01:28 PM PST

I have been looking at the MSI gs 17in and the stealth 17 in. I will be taking online courses and I do a lot of video editing and photo editing. Also the basics like excel and word. Would the 17in MSI with 1 tb solid state drive and 16 gb memory be good for me? I am Jon Snow here. I know nothing.

Edit: mobile won't let me copy and paste but I'm going down the list for the sub:

Require: Reliable Build (it lasts and I will be using it for a long time) (but I don't throw around expensive equipment. I handle it with care). Touchscreen and all that isn't necessary. Ports are helpful. Idk if I will find out I need something but there is always a hdmi adapter, yeah?

Extra: I get really into editing videos. I want something that runs smooth and can handle the clips I am working with. Ideally, it handles the whole edit altogether.

Budget $2,000.00. I have saved up for this forever. Please help me. This could be a turning point in my life!

I don't know what a 2-1 is but if it means I can bend it into a notepad that's not necessary.
I will usually have access to an outlet so battery is a luxury. If it has trouble staying on while it's plugged in and I am using it, I'll be upset. That's what my last laptop did. I really want to make videos and my old laptop would crash. Even when I reset it to factory and only used editing software.

Weight and thinness are not a driving decision maker. If bigger is better, let's dot it! I don't have a desktop so I really want my money to go toward a great laptop!

I had programs like adobe, Lightroom, go pro. There was a higher end video editor I can't recall. Excel, word, steam (for games like drawful)

Gaming isn't important. But if I had a beast that could handle a game on top I'd play one haha. I'd just like to make sure it could handle small games like drawful, or small party games like that.

I want a nice keyboard but I don't know what that means. Something that lets me know I clicked without disturbing my neighbor at a coffee shop?

I am not picky but who doesn't enjoy something a little extra? I really like the MSI because of the keyboard, flush 17'' screen, and it's overall appearance. But I want my money to go toward performance over anything.

Thank you all so much! I really do appreciate the help!

My current craptop is driving me nuts. It can't even keep up with my typing... I need a better one before I sprout another gray hair

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 02:17 AM PST

All I need it to do is browse the web efficiently. I'd like it to have an SSD. I've heard thinkpads are good, but which one should I get? I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible... so around $300-500 money dollars. I'm nerdy, handsome and gay so it needs to reflect my personality. Thanks!

Gift Buying Guide :Best Laptops to Buy For Christmas and boxing day (Canada Version)

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 04:15 AM PST

Hey guys Merry Christmas. 2 days ago I posted this list for US and since it was so popular I decided to try to build a similar list for Canada (maybe if this is popular too I will build one for UK).

Now usually I wouldn't recommend an HD screen at all, but since the Canadian dollars struggling some of the lower budgets will have HD screens, if you can push your budget higher I would strongly recommend that.

    So here we go :

350~400 HP EliteBook 840 renewed Good for general/business usage.

    • 14" HD Touchscreen, Intel Core i5-5300Uz, 8GB RAM, 240 GB SSD.
    • Windows 10, Comes with a minimum 90-day supplier-backed warranty.
    • Dell Latitude E7450 With similar specs and price.

    350~400 Lenovo - 130-15AST

    • AMD A9-Series, 4GB Ram, AMD Radeon R5, 128GB SSD.
    • 15.6 HD screen (this is what I mentioned about low budget screens), built-in DVD drive.
    • Windows 10 in S Mode (don't worry you can get the full Windows 10 for free through some steps).

400~500 ASUS VivoBook F510QA Good for general/business usage.

    • AMD Quad Core A12-9720P CPU, 4GB DDR4 RAM, SATA3 128GB SSD, AMD Radeon R7 Graphics.
    • 15.6" anti-glare Full HD screen, 80% screen-to-body ratio.
    • USB 3.1 Type-C, USB 3.0,2 USB 2.0, HDMI, SD card reader.

500~600 Acer Aspire 5 Slim Good for general/business and light gaming usage.

    • AMD Ryzen 3 3200U Dual Core CPU, 4GB DDR4 Memory, 128GB PCIe NVMe SSD, AMD Radeon Vega 3 Mobile Graphics.
    • 15.6 inches Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS screen, backlit keyboard.
    • 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Port, 2 USB 2.0 Ports, 1 HDMI.

650~750 Asus X509FA Great all around laptop with good value.

    • Intel Core i5-8265U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620.
    • 15.6-inch FHD with 82.5% screen-to-body ratio.
    • USB 3.1 Type-C, USB 2.0, USB 3.1 Type A, and HDMI.

I am worried this is going to take too long, so I am posting this now, but I am still working on it, so if you found this early make sure to check back later in few hours.

    How's the Acer Nitro 7?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 04:07 AM PST

I'm thinking of buying the Acer Nitro 7 as it's on sale for Rs 63000 / $900 which is a great price considering others with same specs are expensive. The specs are, I5 9300h, 8gb ddr4 2400mhz ram, 1tb HDD and 256gb SSD(There's also a 1TB SSD variant which is around $50 more, but I'm confused which one to go with), and a GTX 1650. The things I like the full metal build and the battery life. I know the cooling is not the best on it but I think for my use case I can bare 5°C of more heat. So how's the laptop in general should I get this or the Lenovo Legion Y540 which is around the same price, also there's Asus ROG STRIX G but I don't like the flashy looks of it.

    • Total budget and country of purchase:
    • Rs. 65000 / $900, India.

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.

      • I need Value for money laptop
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

      • Moderately important.
    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.

      • WINDOWS
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

      • N. A.
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

      • I need to run Autocad, Creo, Catia and solidworks.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? -Most of the AAA tiles at atleast medium settings with more than 30 fps.

    School/Gaming laptop that .

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:41 PM PST

Total budget and country of purchase: Hoping for it to be around $1000 AUD, Australia

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Looking for something that can realistically last more than 6-7 hours.

How important is weight and thinness to you? Not too chunky, something that I can carry around all day.

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Not too big something like 13" or 14"

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Bit of gaming, I run a few intensive games sometimes but mostly light games.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Low-medium 1080p at 60fps preferably, no point on having 60 fps if you can barely see

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Hopefully not too out of place and doesn't scream "gaming laptop"

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Looking for something that is not too big and obnoxious, something that doesn't stand out too much. My parents are also divorced so it will be moved a lot and I will hook it up to monitors so anything that has that capability would be great, not needed if it gets too expensive.

Good battery life. Best specs for money. Not sure about the 2 in 1.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
I would like something sturdy but light.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.
Windows, planning on running Linux VM.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      14", 15.6", Whatever.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Virtual Machine, Basic, Programming, Word Processing, mostly schoolwork/work station. I have a gaming PC.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I'll be happy if it runs League of Legends at 60 fps but I don't plan on doing much gaming on this machine.

    I bought this: https://www.microcenter.com/product/610290/samsung-notebook-5-np550xta-k03us-156-laptop-computer---silver

But the wifi card seems to be bad and it's filled with nasty bloatware so I'm returning it. Seriously it got .79 Mb/s download and 10 Mb/s upload when my PC and Phone both got 30+ for each. I'm aware my internet is slow but there is something wrong with the laptop itself despite doing everything I could with the help of Samsung support, and MicroCenter support sort of agreed with me that it's probably a bad card, so I don't want to take my chances with replacing it with another model.

Looking for a gaming laptop in the 800-900$ range

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 02:20 PM PST

Hello all. I have a laptop that meets my needs for schoolwork but I've been running up against the wall of what it can handle gaming-wise and would like to get another for that purpose. Ideally I would just get a desktop but I'm pretty on-the-move these days so I feel a solid gaming laptop is the best for my needs.

Specifically I'm looking to play games like escape from tarkov and arma 3 with solid performance (I've only gamed on console primarily in the past so it doesn't take much to impress me) at medium to high-ish settings. As this will be at wherever my home base is at the time, bulkiness and battery life are only secondary concerns to the power I get for my money. A good display would be nice too. I have some wiggle room on cost and could probably swing 1000$ if it's really worth the increase in quality I'd get but ideally I'd like to stay within 800-900. I am in the US and use Windows. Thanks!

Laptop [Around 1500 €] I am from Middle Europe (Slovakia)

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:32 AM PST

Hi guys i will appreciate your help with choosing my new Laptop. I want laptop thas is good build so it will last some time. I am planning to use my laptop 50/50, outside/home. So my home setup will look like this: 1. Laptop 2. Bluethoot mouse and keyboard 3. Vertical laptop stand 4. Monitor.

I will be happy if the laptop had usb c port or some port that i can use to connect to my monitor.

I was looking at something like MSI GS65, DELL XPS 15, Asus GU502GV, Macbook Pro. Something that look like normal minimalist laptop. I dont preffer any color but silver or black would be nice. I really dont like that Lambo gaming look with red or green accent. So without any backlight on the case that is colorfull.

More speccifications and requirements are down here ! :)

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

    - I don need anything special but it will be awesome if touchpad was in the middle and would preffer if the keyboard was RGB or at least had white backlight

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

    - I am looking for something like MSI GS65 i can get the rtx1070 16gb version for 1 600€

Total budget and country of purchase:

    - my budget is around 1 500€ and i am from Slovakia. I dont mind to buy laptop from another country if its good price and approved seller.

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.

    - I want 16gb ram, and nothing weaker than rtx1660

How important is weight and thinness to you?

    - I dont need laptop that is supper thin or supper fat. I would preffer something like msi gs65 or asus

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.

    - I dont care much about OS, But windows will be the best i think because apple is much more expensive

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    - My preffered screen size is 15 inch, 17 inch is too much and 13 inch is small for me :).

    - For the screen i would like if it had small bezzels and not a big chin. Or medium size bezzels that are same.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

    - Sometimes i edit some videos for myself or my friends but not too often, I only play League of legends with friends,

CS GO, Team Fortress 2 and would like to get in touch with PubG and GTA V.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

    - So build quality is key for me because my last laptop was plastic and the screen hinges broke. When i opened the screen the hinges move and open entire case from side. After a while the hinges destroy the graphic card port so the display stopped working. The laptop was from Lenovo so i dont think i want Lenovo again =]

Thank you so much, let me now some your tips or better laptops down in the comments.

I will answer all of them =] Sorry for my english and mistakes. If i made some let me know please :)

Things to do while setting up a brand new laptop?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 05:20 PM PST

Hi. I'm getting my new Lenovo Legion Y740 81UJ0000US (17", 2070MQ) laptop delivered tomorrow and need your help in setting it up. What are the things I should do?

A few things I have noted down -

    1. During the first boot and Windows account creation, keep the laptop offline. Otherwise Windows will insist on login with microsoft account and won't allow local account. Create a local user first and then connect to internet and add the MS account to it. [anyone knows what's the benefit though?]

    2. Check for out-of-the-box hardware defects. Any tips?

    3. Windows update / driver updates.

    4. Uninstall McAfee. Install Malwarebytes.

    5. Underclocking / hardware monitoring software installation. Any tips / suggestions / guides are welcome here.

    6. How should I partition the drives? The laptop has 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD and 1TB 2.5 HDD. I typically try to make these partitions -

Windows/System. Entertainment (movie/tv/music). Games. Software. (Instead of installing to C:\ProgramFiles, I typically install on separate drive altogether.) X.. err... research material. Personal stuff like pictures, documents etc.

Are certain type of content more suited to SSD and other types to HDD?

Any other suggestion / your own personal tip?

    Touchscreen Laptop [$750 - $1,800] - United States

    * **Total budget and country of purchase:** $750 - $1,800 - USA * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** I have a friend who has a touchscreen laptop from HP that I've used a couple times which has me leaning towards something similar. Additionally, looking to have decent batter life. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Weight and thinness is not really a factor. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** At least 15 inches. * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** Looking to use this for some light gaming. Also aiming to use it from some graduate school work, however I have a main PC at home that can work as a main PC. * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** DotA underlords, CIV, TFT, maybe a few games of league and possibly some WoW when I'm on travel. I have a desktop at home with a 980 TI so that would be my primary with this as a secondary when I am sitting away from it or on travel. Additionally, does anyone know if its possible to leverage a graphics card from another PC? I've heard that steam has that functionality. Finally, I was looking at this Costco deal: https://www.costco.com/dell-xps-15-touchscreen-laptop---9th-gen-intel-core-i7-9750h---geforce-gtx-1650---4k-ultra-hd.product.100507802.html However I haven't really seen anything about it online. College student looking for a laptop to design / game with (~$700) (USA)

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 01:43 PM PST

    Hey there!

Basic rundown of my situation: I currently have an ASUS Q303UA that's around 5 years old, and is starting to slow down. I like this laptop a lot, but it doesn't seem to be sold anywhere anymore, and I'm looking for something similar. I run Photoshop and Lightroom on it regularly, and also game on it occasionally (think: Dragon Age series, Skyrim, etc), though it doesn't do great with games, they still work, and that's all I care about. I'm asking for a new one for Christmas, so I'm not trying to break the bank.

    FORM:

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

    • My current laptop is a 2-in-1, and I'd like whatever new one I get to be as well, but it isn't a dealbreaker. My screen has been cracked for ages, so I haven't actually been able to use the tablet feature for a while, so it isn't something I will actively miss. Other than that, a good display that is actually bright / true-to-color is probably the most important to be, as well as a decent amount of storage. My current laptop has 1TB, but honestly I've never come close to filling that up, so it doesn't need to be quite so large.

Total budget and country of purchase:

    • I'm looking for something around ~$700USD, and I'm located in the US.

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.

    • 2-in-1 and battery are both important. My current laptop dies pretty quickly in it's old age, and never had a great battery to begin with, so I'd like something that lasts a little longer.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

    • Not very important at all. If it's sleek, that's a plus, but I don't mind a bit of bulk.

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.

    • Windows

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    • Nothing under the 13in range. I think my current screen is 13.3. Larger is okay but not necessary.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

    • Yes. I use the Adobe suite - specifically Photoshop and Lightroom, and play Dragon Age and Skyrim on my laptop as well.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    • I'm not looking for a gaming laptop specifically. I'd like it to be able to run the games without a shit ton of issues, but I don't mind having to run the games on lower qualities. For reference I currently run Dragon Age: Inquisition at 'poor' settings, with meshes on ultra so I can add mods. As long as the games run and don't lag excessively, I'm happy.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

    • I hate the setup on gaming laptop keyboards, with the extra number pad and such. If it's a laptop that otherwise meets what I'm looking for, I could deal, but I don't want to have to develop a whole new keyboard flow when using design software.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

    • That's pretty much it. I wouldn't be looking for a new laptop if this one wasn't starting to slowly die on me, so anything comparable to what I have (ASUS Q303) is good.

    Thank you in advance!

    Work/Gaming Laptop

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 06:49 PM PST

    Hello,

So I recently bought a DELL G5 15-5590 for my retraining in informatic school. Sadly I experienced fan issues especially for the CPU one. Well, I try to have a refound and I hesitate for what to choose after if I can: retry DELL G5 and perhaps it was just this laptop that had an issue or try another brand ?

    Budget of ~1750€

    France

Something that has great thermal control, mostly for work but with this budget I can play too.

DELL G5 is already quite heavy so nothing more. Less than 2,84kg would be better.

15,6" so I can transport it easily.

OS will be Windows, I can dualboot or use a Flash Drive for Linux.

    Numeric keypad.

I will use Virtual machine in my Bachelor.

For Gaming I already have other stuff like PS4 and Switch, but I plan to play MHW and The Witcher 3 on it. I don't have high hopes for Cyberpunk 77 on a laptop but well...

So I'm looking for this kind of build:

    15,6"

    i7 gen 9

    RTX 2060

    16 Go of RAM

SSD 256 Go + HDD 1 To or SSD 512 Go

I was thinking of HP Omen and it gets recommanded in this sub, but online reviews talk often about poor Thermal Controls and low battery life.

    Thanks for reading me.

Looking for a *tough* laptop (will be dropped a lot) for the In-Laws (US, ideally around $700 but could go to $1,000) - for Facebook / media consumption

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 09:50 AM PST

    • Total budget and country of purchase: -US, under $1,000 (ideally closer to $700)-

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. -More than any of these, toughness is important, as I expect this laptop to be dropped rather frequently. Use case is sitting in a recliner, watching movies and surfing Facebook... occasionally asleep and it falling from his lap to the ground. Will be plugged in pretty much all the time. Lots of memory is a good thing - with Facebook and a million tabs taking RAM. Minimal moving parts is a good thing for reliability.-

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? -Ideally would like a 17 inch form factor (he said "bigger is better") but he has a 15 inch laptop today and is fine with it. Weight does not matter. Thickness definitely does not matter. Toughness matters.-

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. -Windows-

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. -17 inches is ideal. 15 inches is fine.-

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. -No intensive stuff - this a media consumption (through VLC), Facebook device-

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? -NA-

A laptop for internet browsing as fast as my S9 phone when I'm away from my home PC, it's just that I hate doing searches on my phone

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 01:46 PM PST

Total budget and country of purchase: R$1200, Brasil

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Good battery life.

How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important at all

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. I'm guessing Linux will keep the cost down and it's also faster than Windows

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A, as long as it's bigger than my phone screen

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Maybe some light editing on photoshop (just filter applying)

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? No gaming.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? N/A

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Just a laptop on the go when I'm sleeping at my gf or my parents. It will live in my "travel backpack". Maybe YouTube and Netflix. Basically my phone, on a bigger screen and with a keyboard. Thank you!

Looking for a music production laptop and stuck between two (seemingly) valid options.

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 04:17 PM PST

Hi all, I'm looking for a laptop primarily for music production, DJing, and light photo editing/mock-ups in Adobe illustrator. (The most important thing is music production and DJing).

I currently have an MSI Apache 6QD 17in (Nvidia 960m, i7, 16g ram, 1tb ssd) and while it's a fantastic laptop, it's also too large for me to take with to gigs (too heavy and won't safely fit on a DJ booth's laptop stand). I got it for its relative power to price ratio, but I've found that for music production it's perhaps overkill, and for gaming it's just slightly not powerful enough for serious competition.

So I want to get a small, light laptop that would be suitable for music, and I plan to build a desktop some time after that for gaming and intensive video editing. (Gaming isn't a focus, just a hobby, so I like the idea of having separate machines anyway.)

I've built (multiple) desktops before, know my way around laptops in a basic sense, and have spent hours researching to my best ability, but I'm stuck between the Acer Aspire 5 Slim and the Razer Blade Stealth 13

I know that the main focus for music production is on the processer, storage, and RAM, so graphics card is mostly negligible, but I'd like to be able to do some editing on it if I can.

Where I'm stuck is on understanding why there's such a price discrepancy between these two laptops and whether it's worth it to shell out more for the Razer one or if I'd be better served just getting the Acer laptop and adding another RAM stick. In both cases, I know storage is limited, but I plan on swapping out the stock SSD for a 1TB that I have now anyway.

In addition, I know the Razer Blade is compatible with egpu enclosures, which I am considering exploring down the road, but at 300 for the enclosure plus another 300 for a graphics card, I'm also thinking it'd be better to just stick with my original thought of just building a desktop for home use.

Thanks for the help, and of course I'd appreciate any suggestions outside of these two laptops. I'm sure I've just fixated on the choice for so long that I've missed other good candidates.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build quality.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. TLDR: Me want small, stronk laptop.

Total budget and country of purchase: Variable budget, but cheaper is better. 800-1600 USD, USA.

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Good battery life (or at least serviceable battery life). Best specifications for the money (the most important thing other than size).

How important is weight and thinness to you? Super important. I'll be carrying it around all the time and using it in a variety of places.

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. No larger than 15 in if possible.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Light photo editing and mock-ups (Photoshop and Illustrator), heavy audio production (Ableton, Audition, RX Suite).

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good touchpad and backlit keyboard would be super nice but not a deal breaker.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. N/A

    ~1000€ 13-Inch Laptop/Ultrabook for CS Student [Germany]

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 12:31 PM PST

    Hey reddit,

I had already ordered a Laptop with a student discount, which was a ThinkPad L390 Yoga (i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB). However the vendor just told me that the listing was outdated and that I couldn't get it anymore. I have since not found a deal as good, maybe you can help me out.

    • Total budget and country of purchase: Budget: ~1000€, can go a bit higher if necessary (absolute max would probably be ~1100€), country is Germany

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Good Battery life is important for getting through a full day of College. 2 in 1 would be a nice addition, but is by no means necessary. A touchscreen however would make my life much easier (way more comfortable to scroll through slides quickly etc), and is thus heavily preferred.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Important

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows or Linux

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13"

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. None of the above, but programming. Programs: IntelliJ, PyCharm, VirtualBox (for either Windows or Linux), Adobe Lightroom (Light Photo editing).

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A

I would prefer for RAM to be upgradeable if it's 8GB.
