Posted: 14 Dec 2019 06:13 AM PST Hello everyone! I am a Computer Science college student, and I have recently been developing a free Android app where the users can "drop" texts on their location so that others with the app can "pick up" or view the texts when they approach near the location, such as with radius 100 meters. I believe that the main advantage of this free app is that you don't need to look for information online, but the information finds you! If there are dropped texts near your location, the app will send notifications to alert you about what people wrote down in the location. For example: While walking, you may pick up a text that informs you of a shortcut that most people don't know about. Or you might pick up a text written by store owners near you who wanted to advertise and let you know what they sell. You can also upvote the texts you felt informative and helpful and downvote texts that felt spammy or inappropriate. And to prevent the app from being filled with spam texts by trolls, I added options for users to block texts from certain users and block texts that have too many downvotes relative to their number of upvotes. For example, if a text has 3 times the number of downvotes that its number of upvotes, it is automatically blocked. I have finished making the app functional, but I am still far from releasing the app since I need to improve the design, attempt to speed it up, write a privacy policy, beta test the app, maybe make a website, and somehow figure out how to promote this thingy. One of my biggest concerns is that some people may check out the app soon after its release, find no texts nearby them, and simply uninstall the app. Because this planet is big and the app will not have many active texters in the beginning, I fear this will most likely happen. Therefore, instead of having users pick up texts nearby, I am planning to allow the users to view all texts from all over the world in the app's first release. I feel this defeats the main purpose of this app, but I think I need to resort to this and have users pick up texts nearby only if the app ends up having many active texters. Here are 2 screenshots of the app so far: What is your take on this? If you have any suggestions, criticisms, or advice, please let me know! And thank you so much for reading! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Dec 2019 02:14 AM PST I always check every post for new apps. But for the most part, I always end up reading the same kind of apps over and over. I would like to create a post so you guys can share some unique apps. I would want suggestions about apps that do something useful and different, not the classic weather/todo/email apps please. Ill start with 4 that are really useful and changed the way I use my smartphone. Bottom quick settings/MIUI-ify: same app, same developer, different design. Its a bottom quick panel/notification panel/status bar, lets you add shorcuts to apps aswell. Really important to me Sesame shorcuts: Lets you add hold app shorcuts to whatapp conversation, email account... depends on the app you want to add shorcuts to. But I use it as a shorcut in MIUI-ify to quickly search things with his powerful search engine. Amazin app and life changer Zone launcher: its like a edge panel but for the whole screen, you can add different kinds of zones for different purposes. Really polished and I basically open all my apps/shorcuts through it. DOESNT REPLACE YOUR LAUNCHER Popup widget 3: i use it along miui-ify/zone launcher. Lets you create a shorcut (I placed it in my zone launcher and miuify) and I basically have my weather widgets, calendar... hidden but they all show in a quick swipe from the edge. You can create a view that show every widget you want, at the same time, with just a click. Really useful to show multiple weather info widgets together or calendar/todolist. Amazing but simple app Reachability control: I already have a bottom setup, I mean, MIUI-ify and zone launcher are for this exact porpose. But if I still have to reach something on the top of the screen I quickly swipe from the edge and easy. I belive is not longer developed and I heard it doesnt work properly on Android 10 tho I would love to hear you favorite apps about this kind of topic! Please dont throw random names without at least a quickly description [link] [comments] |
[DEV] Ad Skip Plus for YouTube: A more efficient ad skipper for YouTube (Android 7.0+, no root) Posted: 14 Dec 2019 05:53 AM PST My new app automatically skips ads for you in YouTube. It has two modes for this. In Normal mode, once the "Skip Ad" button appears in an ad, it will be clicked automatically. Also, Ad Skip Plus mutes the ads for you. (These are free features.) The app requires Android 7.0 or higher. What's more, Ad Skip Plus offers a special Playlist mode for more effective skipping of ads when you are watching a playlist or an album. As soon as an ad appears, the previous video will be selected, and then immediately changed back to the one you were about to watch, so that you can continue watching with minimal interruption. (This works only with ads between videos, as long as they are not fold-out ads.) Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phonephreak.autoskip (Note: Presently, the app doesn't yet work in YouTube Music.) [link] [comments] |

How have you customised the launcher you use? Posted: 13 Dec 2019 07:26 PM PST I've been using Nova since I had a Galaxy S2. I've tried a bunch of launchers (Action, Apex, Microsoft launcher, Lawnchair) but I always end up coming back to Nova. I want to try something new now. Why did you choose the launcher you use? EDIT: Trying Microsoft Launcher since a few hours. Looks pretty good! How have you customised it to fit your requirements? [link] [comments] |

Looking for an ebook reader that supports full screen on notched phones Posted: 14 Dec 2019 04:15 AM PST So far all the e-reader apps I've tried either display the status bar or black it out. Are there any apps out there that use that portion of the screen while reading in full screen? [link] [comments] |

Looking for a time spent at location app? Posted: 14 Dec 2019 11:29 AM PST Hello! I am looking for the best android app that lets me track the time spent at a location automatically. For example, whenever I am in my 'work' geo-fence, it tracks that amount of time. Is there anything anyone uses specifically that they like? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Dec 2019 11:25 AM PST Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Tried several methods.. like Stream over HTTP (too laggy) or with apps like APowermirror. Apowermirror works best so far and probably could figure out a work around by rooting my device and manually disable the physical buttons with a touchscreen locker in place as well (app pinning from Vanilla Android wont work in my case), but I'm sure that there needs to be easier and more convenient way for this. After all, a lot of retail devices are limited in a similar way (without the screen mirroring tho). Furthermore, it'd be nice to have a stable connection like over usb or bluetooth. WiFi would theoretically work but I'm afraid that it would limit the bandwidth of the host device (tablet) as it needs to be online 100% of the time for our product to work as intented. Any recommendations would be highly appreciated! [link] [comments] |

Users with root, is adaway crashing your android UI? Posted: 14 Dec 2019 12:33 AM PST So my phone was getting some weird UI hangs lately. I have enabled "show touchs" in the developer options and I could see that my device recognized the touchs but it doesn't "process them" for some seconds (or until I turn off and on the screen). I though it was my phone, then I noticed that is happened a lot with the app I use for reddit "Now for reddit". But I happens also with other apps. After some testing I realized it happens when I have adaway enabled. This also clarify why I saw it a lot in "Now for reddit", each time I enter a thread or click an img a request for a banner ad is made and looks like this is what is crashing something. Do any of you guys have notice something similar? Edit: My phone is a OnePlus3T with android 9 (Oxygen OS 9.0.6) and Magisk [link] [comments] |
