I am accessing to another Router configuration with 192.198.1.1 Posted: 31 Dec 2019 11:29 AM PST Hello r/homenetworking When i try to access my router (TP LINK TD-W8961N) config, i gain access to another router config ( TP LINK ARCHER D7). I reinstalled my router firmware, did all i could but the problem persists. I even tried with two different routers, different computers and phones. The problem is still the same. This is not the first time this happened. It did happen frequently when i was living in an appartement in the same neighborhood. The weird thing is when i unplug the adsl cable, i get my router's config back. Is it possible for adsl to act as a bridged connection from a neighbor's router? I am asking this because even without configuring the router after a reset, i get internet without the adsl light on. Is it possible that someone working for my isp fucked up? Thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 04:59 PM PST Am I just dilusional in thinking this? I have 5 google home devices in my network, when I play video games on my pc (ethernet) I usually don't have any issues. I recently added another Google nest hub device, and I noticed my ping was insane while I was gaming (up from around 100 to like 2000ms). So I reset my routers and disconnected my new nest hub and then tried again. It seemed to hover around 150 which wasn't too bad but seemed higher than normal. Then I tried to ask google a question and noticed it was directly related to my ping. Anytime a Google hub was trying to think my ping would spike into the thousands. What the hell. Is this a known issue or whats going on here?? [link] [comments] |
Move IoT on separate network (with diagrams!) Posted: 31 Dec 2019 04:45 AM PST Hello, This is my current situation at home. Tp-Link Routers are normal home routers in AP mode (TP-Link Archer C6). Solid lines are wired connections, dashed lines are wireless connections. I wanted to separate IoT network from home network (IOT network = 1 Wired Smart Alarm Hub, Alexa, 3 Wireless security cameras, Smart Thermostat and smart switches), without having to change or rewire everything. So I was thinking something like that: I would add only one managed switch before PfSense and a new TP-Link Archer C6 (or similar) with only 2.4Ghz wifi enabled and hidden. Do you think this is possibile? Will PfSense be able to read/differentiate tagged packets and untagged? Thank you for any help! [link] [comments] |
Recomendation for 1000ft eithernet spool Posted: 31 Dec 2019 08:06 AM PST I am not happy with the quality, feels like 2/3 of the cables I make don't work. I made a lot of cable before using other brands. Can anyone provide a link to a good brand that's under $150? [link] [comments] |
How do I block/filter a website with a long URL from my Huawei router? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 02:33 PM PST So I know how to filter websites that have shorter URLs but when the website has longer URLs it doesn't allow me to block it.. so how can I solve this issue?? [link] [comments] |
Small Traffic from Lets Encrypt, Akamai, and Fastly across all devices Posted: 31 Dec 2019 07:40 PM PST When I view the apps going through the traffic analyzer on my ASUS router, my devices (computers, phones, and Smart TVs) all seem to be showing traffic from Lets Encrypt, Akamai, and Fastly with little amount of usage. Everything else seems pretty normal, like traffic from Twitch.tv or youtube being the most for myself. The amount being used almost always looks like this, around the range of 1mb-10mb Lets Encrypt: (Upload - 354.70 KB , Download - 12.70 MB) Fastly: (Upload - 24.36 KB, Download - 433.25 KB) Akamai.net: (Upload - 4.53 KB, Download - 11.31 KB) Is this the normal amount of usage/traffic? Should these even appear at all or should they have way more usage? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 07:35 PM PST I want to hook up a second router in my room to set up with my NAS, but I was curious if I needed a modem as well. We have Xfinity and the main router is hooked up to a modem, if that helps. [link] [comments] |
Best way to get wired connection(Fiber) from next door room? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 07:05 PM PST Should I run a long Ethernet cable? Will be connecting to console for gaming. Much love guys! [link] [comments] |
Traffic not routing to admin panel on access point Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:06 PM PST Network setup: LAN1: 192.168.0.0/24 (Gateway 192.168.0.1) (WIFI ADAPATER FOR MY ISP CONNECTION) LAN2: 192.168.1.0/24 (Gateway 192.168.1.1) (ETHERNET CONNECTION GOING TO PFSENSE) Access Point: 192.168.10.0/24 (Gateway 192.168.10.1) (CONNECTED TO PFSENSE) When I try to connect to the Access Point gateway to manage the control panel while connected to LAN1 and LAN2, traffic is sent via LAN1 which is the Wifi interface for my internet connection. Host not found. I want traffic to be forced over the correct interface (LAN2?) so I can access the control panel on the access point. I've tried to get the ROUTE ADD feature working on Windows but I've had no luck. Do I need to add static routes in pfSense to achieve this? What am I missing? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 06:43 AM PST So I recently acquired a Juniper EX 4200 48-Port Gigabit Switch EX4200-48T 8-PoE. I'm getting a machine that has a 10gig rj45 and I want to connect it to the SFP port on my switch. I'm wondering if one of these adapters should work or if anyone has any better ideas. Edit: switch not router. I need more coffee. [link] [comments] |
RT-AC66U really slow 2.4 GHz speed Posted: 31 Dec 2019 11:27 AM PST So the 5GHz is giving me 400+ Mbps, while 2.4 GHz is struggling to do 8 Mbps. Started noticing a major difference maybe a month ago. Any idea on how to get it working good again for the 2.4 GHz? SOLVED: Had to change the Channel Bandwidth to 40Mhz and control channel to 11 for the 2.4Ghz connection. Then do 40Mhz for 5GHz as well and change it's Control channel to 161. I'm now at 100Mbps for the 2.4Ghz and still at 200+ for 5ghz. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 01:27 PM PST I currently have a Netgear R7800 router. I see the only VPN option is PureVPN In the router settings. I have a subscription to PIA for VPN and use the OpenVPN software on my iPhone and MAC Os desktop via a profile I downloaded from my settings. Question: How can I access my home internet remotely? I would love to always have access to the internet at my house, especially on vacation. Can someone point me to a step by step guide? [link] [comments] |
Have EdgeRouter X, how to turn Nighthawk X6 R8000 into AP for it? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 01:08 PM PST Edit: Should Clarify, I'm currently using the NightHawk and have an EdgeRouter Laying around. Simply put, my 12yo brother constantly streams and downloads games, bogging my internet down constantly. I can't load pictures or anything, my other brother gets high ping in games because of this shit. I don't see any QoS options to limit him, I already have put him as low priority on the connected devices but he's still pulling 100+ Mbps. Is this as simple as just plugging in the Nighthawk into the EdgeRouter? [link] [comments] |
Adding wired internet to dead spot of home, is MoCA best option? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 04:40 PM PST Hey all, I am trying to add a wired connection to a back room of my home where the WiFi does not reach well enough. I would also like to hook an Xbox up for gaming. I am wondering if MoCA would be my best options or even a power-line adapter. Current setup: Spectrum Internet Modem: Arris tm822 Router: Netgear N600 Modem room to back room: about 100 feet (I don't really want to run an Ethernet cable as my home is a weird layout and would not be ideal.) I am not sure how MoCA would need to be setup or if it would interrupt current frequencies from the Spectrum setup. The back room does have a coaxial cable. For power-line, the room the modem is in and the back room are not on the same breaker. What would be my best options and how would I go about each. I am not very tech savvy with internet connection things like this and any help will be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Replacing my replacing the ActionTec MoCA MI424WR Posted: 31 Dec 2019 12:38 PM PST I've had this thing for years (Before Verizon sold to Frontier) and I would like to get rid of it if possible. Recently, I set up traffic shaping into groups for individual devices on my house and the router continues to reboot itself. Either the issue is traffic shaping or bad hardware. I thought of putting a Linksys/Cisco device on it, but hate seeing devices bulked together. What would it cost and what are the chances Frontier shoots me down for asking them to change my ONT from COAX to Ethernet? I can run the Ethernet line myself I would like to ditch this device its been nothing but problems for the past 6 months (well, since I have had it off/on). [link] [comments] |
Ethernet issue: Where does my wire go? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 04:09 PM PST Ok recap: I moved into a new house that has ethernet ready in the living room. The office had a phone jack, when I checked the wiring it is indeed Cat 5. I purchased an insert, wired it according to the B side color guide. Plugged into PC and no internet. I'm not sure what the other end of my ethernet cable looks like, and I cant find a panel in the house anywhere. Am I correct in assuming the other end may be wired incorrectly? Where might I find the other end of the cable? [link] [comments] |
Gigabit not hitting gigabit while wired Posted: 31 Dec 2019 12:06 PM PST I have 3 different wifi/routers that clim they have gigabit ports. I have fios gigabit. Using the Verizon speed test that measures from Verizon to us, it measures, 800/700. Using speed test.net, I get at best 650/350. I have tp link deco m4. Tp link ax 1500. And netgear x6s ac3600. Am I missing something? Edit 1: the netgear is giving me 600/800 wired. But Verizon speed test that measures speed from Verizon to me times out. Wifi on the same computer gives me around 150/300. PC2 gets 225/225 wireless. PC3 gets 150/150. [link] [comments] |
Is there someone that reaches 1000mbps on a TP-Link TL-PA7017? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 11:37 AM PST Hi, I recently bought a TP-Link TL-PA7017 for my computer to increase the internet speeds. My internet provider delivers 1000 Mbps optic fiber but I can't reach those speeds. Not even close. I did a speed test and only got to 50-D/s 48-U/s. A direct connection from my router to my PC gives me around 920 Mbps. Wi-Fi gives me 300-400 Mbps on the same machine. Is there anyone that ACTUALLY reaches around the 800-1000 Mbps on powerline adapters? Thanks in advance! The distance from point A to B should not be far. I would say within 10 meters. The problem is, I can not "just" add a direct connection. It has to do with the construction of my house. I am sure though, that both adapters are on different electricity groups. If you have any tips to add, please let me know! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:22 PM PST I currently live in nyc, and I've worked in FinTech for 20 years. I wanted to upgrade to 10 Gb network before I buy a house and move at the end of 2020. Is SFP currently the way most of you end up going, to implement 10G at home? Really wanted to stay with cat6a/7, and was ok with not getting full 10Gb....just wanted more than 1 Gb. Curious if anyone else has gone a different path. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 07:36 AM PST So I recently got my first floor in my condo wired for Ethernet; 1690 sq feet, 3 floors. So I will no longer be using Verizon's moca extender on my network. I came on here and almost all suggested ubiquity ap. I was sold, but then I talked to 6 real life people and they ALL said they arent Worth the trouble. 3. Said atleast once a year they stop working, easy fixes, but require forum searches and booting up a computer. The other three said their the best IF YOU NEED WHAT THEY OFFER otherwise, not worth the trouble. I'm only connecting 3-4 devices using maybe 80 mbps of my gigabit internet. since I have Fios, it cannot be a router, it has to be an ap. In my case, what would you suggest? Eero, tp link? How to get a direct ethernet connection far from router? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 01:52 PM PST I have Xfinity Comcast cable internet & voice. My lines and router are in my kitchen, I need a direct ethernet connection in my office, which is on the opposite side of my house. I'm starting a part-time job that is requiring me to use a direct ethernet connection, no wi-fi. I can't work in my kitchen, and I don't have ethernet in my office. I do have a phone jack in the office which has cat5 cable, so I think I could convert that phone jack to an ethernet port? But, it goes to my phone box outside, not internet. Hoping to avoid running a 100' ethernet cable down my hallway from one end of my house to the other. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 01:02 AM PST I have a tp-link TL-SG105 unmanaged switch. The setup is from my router an Ethernet cable goes to a power line network adapter. That adapter goes to another adapter on the other side of the house which connects to the switch with an ethernet cable. For some reason I remember when a computer is off the LED for the port it used on the switch would be off. But now every single port I have an Ethernet cable in on the switch that's connected to a computer flashes as if it's transmitting and receiving data, even if the computer is off. If I disconnect an ethernet cable from a computer the switch's link light for that port turns off. If I plug the cable back into the switch, it flashes as if there's traffic even if every single computer is off and the only active device on the switch is the power line network adapter that connects it to the network. Is that normal? It's possible I'm just imagining things but I vividly remember it behaving differently. I'd only expect the port that goes to the power line network adapter to have traffic if everything else is turned off. I notice a difference in how quickly the link lights flash on the ports used by computers that are on and the computers that are off blink more slowly. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 12:48 PM PST I have a fixed wireless ISP that we receive via a microwave dish on the roof of our house. It comes in via POE and goes into a panel in a walk in closet in our house. From there the technician seemed to bypass our telecom interface and splice it directly to a face plate in our living room. The POE is plugged into an outlet in the closet. I am now looking to add a P2P Wireless bridge so I can get internet in a guest house that is around 100 yards from our main house. What is the best way to do this in terms of layering the network? It seems the easiest solution to me would be to run the incoming data from the dish to a switch box and then use that to plug in both the Mesh WiFi (which is currently hardwired to the faceplate in the living room) and Wireless bridge. This gives me two concerns.. 1. It is going to be a pain in the A** to run Ethernet back up to the roof from the closet panel. 2. When someone is using bandwidth on the bridge won't it muddle the performance of the main homes WiFi? I don't want that as we game and stream and have very little bandwidth to sacrifice. Any direction/guidance would be greatly appreciated! Let me know if there is anything else that I can clarify. [link] [comments] |
Use Provider router-modem as modem, but leave the Wifi on ? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 04:48 AM PST Hey, I am really new to home networking. I live in Europe and my Provider is Magenta (aka Tmobile in the US) and the modem, which the costumer gets, is an Ubee modem which also is an router. SO i dont wanna buy a new router since i dont really need to (I think?) but I wanna use it as an modem only. I saw ppl to disable the wifi and use it as a bridge, but since I am really paranoid and it says that it doesnt have a firewall in Bridged mode I dont wanna do it. So my question is: [link] [comments] |
