Posted: 31 Dec 2019 08:31 AM PST Hello! I have a lenovo ideapad 320 15ikb and 5ghz wifi barely works. At first i'ts normal than ping becomes incredibly high no matter the ip i'm pinging and it takes like 5 minutes to load the youtube home page. It has the latest driver from windows update and 2,4 ghz works fine. Can it possibly be a hardware failure? I've noticed some months ago on linux that if I'm connected to 5ghz the network card heats up to almost 80 degrees celsius. I'm running Windows 10 currently. (I marked this post as a discussion because I'm not sure if this is a bug) [link] [comments] |

How to go back to Windows 7 that came with my laptop? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:34 AM PST Hi, I upgraded to Windows 10 a couple of years ago. I didn't save the Windows 7 product key. I am trying to sell the laptop, but the buyer wants Windows 7 installed on this. I can't download the official ISO without the product key. What is the easiest way to go about this? Is there a way to retrieve my old Windows 7 product key? EDIT: I had an old disk with the Win 7 installation. I was able to retrieve the key with this application. I now have the key. But the Microsoft download page at (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7) says that it encountered a problem and won't let me download the ISO. ERROR: We encountered a problem with your request. Please visit Microsoft Support Contact Us page for assistance. Refer to Message Code 715-123130 and Transaction ID 29040905-2b0b-47ef-8677-910dc1722e53. Please help. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Changing virtual desktop keyboard shortcut? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 02:08 PM PST Hey guys, I finally created a reddit account after lurking for so long lol I was wondering, is there a way of changing the keyboard shortcut for moving between virtual desktops? The default is Control + Windows key + Left key/right key. I want it changed to Control + Left key/right key. Is this possible? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 07:42 PM PST Hello everyone, i have this Asus GL552VW that has been a constant headache since i bought it. One heatsink screw came glued to the heatsink, the lcd flex cable almost caused my laptop to burn (it was faulty from factory). Some heatsink screwAfter having it turned off for 6 months because the power button broke (fairly common issue), i finally received the replacement, bought a new SSD+HDD and reinstalled Windows 10 1909 as UEFI, after all drivers were installed and such, when i shut down the laptop, leave it overnight and power it on the next day, the laptop would power on, black screen, and after some seconds, the battery led will flash orange, and three things can happen:
What is really weird, its the thing that i installed Arch Linux, with Grub as bootloader, and the errors never came back. The computer boots flawlessly and works as intended. I've tried to downgrade Intel ME software with no avail. Disabled secure boot, flashed latest BIOS, nothing worked (except for the Grub workaround). Anyone knows why this is happening? Specs are: Intel Core i5 6300hq Intel HD 530+GTX 960m (Optimus) 12 GB of DDR4 RAM WD Green 240GB SSD+Seagate Barracuda 1TB Windows 10 Single Language 1909+Arch Linux (Grub2 Bootloader, both are UEFI) [link] [comments] |

Strange Activation of win10 on fresh install without Product Key Posted: 31 Dec 2019 07:25 PM PST So I'm upgrading from win7(ultimate) to win10(pro) (I know, cutting it tight on win7 EOL deadline), and I'm screwing around with my HTPC with the win7 to win10 upgrade paths etc. I try the upgrade using media creation tool (1909) from directly within win7, it works. Windows says activated. Ok. I then use my USB stick (created with media creation tool on a different machine), and when it gets to the point where it prompts for the CD Key, I just leave it empty to see what happens etc. Further, I removed all partitions from the hard drive to ensure a clean install. The install completes, it's connected to the network, and before I even enter a key, it's activated! Says digital license. MB is an intel itx board from quite a number of years ago, is not OEM in any way that I know of, so it shouldn't have a key built in? I ran slmgr /dlv and got "Partial Product Key" letters that didn't match any license that I could find, including the license key that was used to install win7 on the HTPC many years ago. How did my win10 activate? What's up with the product key? (I just repeated these steps a 2nd time, this time deleting the partitions, re-adding then formatting the partitions, then deleteing the partitions off the disk again. Same partial product key has activated windows) Edit - machine specs:

Posted: 31 Dec 2019 12:33 PM PST With W7 support coming to an end in January, do any existing updates stay available for download after support ends? Basically, if I format my laptop in April will I still be able to get all the updates up to the point that they stopped? Thanks [link] [comments] |

Someone please help me turn off the Start Menu Search Preview pane. Posted: 30 Dec 2019 10:46 PM PST The areas in the red boxes. I hate that part of the search. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to disable that, or if it can even be done. It wasn't always there. I just updated and it shows up with no obvious way of disabling it. I've checked Group Policy, no dice. I've checked the registry, but didn't see anything related to it. I'm about to start using ClassicShell or something like it. I'm getting real tired of Microsoft's shit. [link] [comments] |
Can't re-balance audio with my new headset Posted: 31 Dec 2019 05:13 PM PST I just got the Arctis 7 headset and the audio was louder on the right channel than the left. I had the same problem on a previous headset, so I went straight to the sound control panel to balance the audio, and the option isn't there. I tried everything here https://www.howto-connect.com/how-to-fix-speaker-levels-balance-slider-missing-in-windows-10/ And nothing worked. Any and all help would be appreciated. If you know of software I can download that would help me, please let me know. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Dec 2019 05:16 AM PST Hi, since a few weeks I have wifi issues on my PC (custom built in 2016). First of all is really slow on the internet (on the same place my MacBook has 3 times faster internet on the speed test) but the worst thing is that every 30/40minutes the wifi disconnects itself and I have to turn off the wifi for a few minutes and turn it on again (if I turn the wifi on immediatly I get: "No wifi networks available" or the wifi button is grey). How can I fix this issue? [link] [comments] |

Adding a digital sound output device Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:09 AM PST I am using a porgram that sends all my computer's audio to my phone but the sound also plays on my pc. I wanted to know if it is possible to add a audio output device that doesn't play anything on my speakers and only acts as a place for the program to pick up the sound? Thanks in advance :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 02:46 AM PST Can someone help me find boot images of XP, Vista, and Windows 7? I downloaded what was on Microsoft's website, but the XP and Vista images won't boot in as a VM and aren't recognized as bootable images in Rufus. Windows 7 on the website requires a key immediately when doing an install. By the way I was trying to boot these images in the Windows 10 Hyper-v VM manager. It just said that boot media must be installed when I pointed at either image as boot media. Thanks for the help. [link] [comments] |
McAfee LiveSafe disabling windows update and storage service Posted: 31 Dec 2019 12:58 AM PST I can't download games off of the Microsoft store without errors occurring due to these services being turned off often. I tried the internet for ways of preventing this but they all seem outdated and I can not locate the "VirusScan Console" mentioned on the McAfee.com response. Kinda pissing me off because I can't disable the mcafee services either; they are always running. Anyone else have the same issue? I really don't wanna delete McAfee because I just paid for three months [link] [comments] |
