Using find and mv when there are spaces in a file name. Posted: 25 Nov 2019 09:34 AM PST I have a bunch of files that have spaces and symbols (like ↑) in the file names. I want to search through some of these files and find ones that match the search results and move those to another folder. Nothing I find on the web seems to work because of the spaces. I am not very good with command line yet. Any tips? If there was a graphical program that did this for me, I'd love it! [link] [comments] |

Is linux better or worse for gaming Posted: 25 Nov 2019 11:32 AM PST So my windows 10 all in one pc is a toaster hitting about 10 years of age, and because I'm trying to milk it dry before needing to buy (or build) another computer I wanted to know if using Linux improves fps, worsens it, or changes it on a case by case basis if I used the same pc with the same graphics settings on games like Left For Dead 2, Payday 2, and Portal [link] [comments] |

Is there a way to copy a cinnamon mint operating system settings from one PC to another? Posted: 25 Nov 2019 07:49 AM PST I've been struggling the past 4 days on setting up my laptop to work on the go. I'm a linux newbie, and I've lucked in on my PC's installation, not so much on the second one. I've messed up the second installation so bad messing with the settings, that even apache won't install anymore, which means that I'm due for a fresh installation. So, is there a way to copy the first installation to the second device, keeping in mind that I'm dual booting on the laptop? [link] [comments] |
Dual booting windows 10/ubuntu Posted: 25 Nov 2019 12:08 PM PST I started of with a dell inspiron which came with windows 10 So I created my ubuntu 19.10 bootable USB (it's on an SD card) and created a new 30gb unallocated partition. No problems there I can't figure out how to actually get to the UEFI and boot from my drive. It seems that firmware (BIOS/UEFI) is different for each manufacturer and all of the tutorials seem to be done with a different firmware than I have [link] [comments] |

How to resize partition if free space is in between other windows partitions Posted: 25 Nov 2019 01:25 PM PST Basically the title. I have one linux partition at the very end of my drive, and all the freespace I want to assign it to in between the windows NTFS partitions. This is why I'm unable to increase the size of my partition, which is something I have to do if I want to install QTCreator (I just ran out of space, I was giving my KDE Neon install a measly 50GB). This is what I have on GParted, to further ilustrate my point https://imgur.com/a/aEzo0IX [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Nov 2019 04:18 AM PST Hi, I have been making some minor bash scripts in the past but i now have a job in a Windows environment and would like to do some basic commands in a simpler way.
I want to make a bash script that runs a powershell command. For example.
I want to type script.sh in my terminal and then have a prompt asking for previous PC name and new PC name and then run the following powershell command using the 2 variables Is something like that even possible? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Nov 2019 12:55 PM PST Moving some servers from self hosted vsphere to a dedicated hosted environment. One of the questions they are asking is to provide mount point information for each server? What are they asking for? This is typically not something I create when setting up a Linux guest through vsphere. [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to remove HDMI as sound option forever? Posted: 24 Nov 2019 03:24 PM PST Hi. I use Kubuntu 19.10 on my desktop and I often have to set the HDMI audio device from my GPU to off. As I never use the sound through HDMI I find it infuriating that I need to turn it off every time I turn one of my monitors off or the one of my monitors goes to standby, especially as it also then swaps the default sound interface to HDMI sound thereby hijacking my multimedia controls. At the moment I'm not even using a HDMI cable to any monitor. So Is there a way to remove the sound device on the GPU or do I just need to suck it up? I can understand that auto switching sound device on a laptop is fine but on my desktop I set my settings how i wish them to be and I will change them when and if I wish for them to be different. How to install multitouch with trackpad Posted: 25 Nov 2019 11:47 AM PST Hello. I've been working around ubuntu for the last days and I'm loving it. I'm finding some problems (since I'm an advanced user in microsoft and I'm already confortable there) trying to make my machine run with all it's utilities. For example, the fingerprint scanner or working live with my archives in my google drive without downloading and reuploading. But the biggest problem I've found is the trackpad. I cannot swipe left to go back in chromium or use any gesture (like 4 fingers to change desktop or 3 fingers to show all the active software). I've downloaded some apps, like libinput and gestures, but they are not friendly to setup. Can someone suggest something to make it work? Thank you. [link] [comments] |

Need Help With Too Many Authentication Failures Posted: 25 Nov 2019 05:58 AM PST This group was really great to help me with a different login issue yesterday. Because of what I learned here I resolved the problem. But now I am trying login to a different server and am getting the Too Many Authentication Failures. I need a little hand holding to walk me through this. I know how to navigate and open a file and from what I can tell it is the ssh/config file that needs a change. I just want to do this and not make this more complicated than it need be. At another time I will learn how to clean up keys, etc. Thank you! [link] [comments] |

Hi, how would I mount multiple hard drives to a Linux machine? Posted: 25 Nov 2019 01:48 AM PST Hi, so I've been a windows user for my entire life and would like to know what other options are there for operating systems. I'm planning on using mostly Manjaro XFCE or KDE. I use my ssd for the operating system + essential programs and use a separate HDD for games, movies, and larger files. Plus, I reallocated all the shortcut files: Downloads, Photos, Documents, Desktops, etc, to the hard drive and not the ssd. I was wondering if something similar could be arranged in Linux. The last time I installed it only showed the drive which Linux is installed on and wasn't able to fix it since. I'm not very familiar with all this so if someone can point me in the right direction that would be perfect! Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

Hibernation when closing laptop Posted: 25 Nov 2019 09:02 AM PST I've installed Lubuntu on a laptop. It doesn't seem to recognise that its a laptop and has poor configurations. In particular when I close the laptop lid, it doesn't hibernate but instead stays on. Is there anyway I can make it so that when I close the lid it goes into hibernation mode? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Nov 2019 09:01 AM PST Aloha, im having issues with my linode ssh key and my github ssh key trying to save in the same location , but one will only work if i over write the path.... now im having a issue trying to change the path, no matter what what i give it, it gets denied and says doesnt exsit, it may be my syntax on how im writing the path First Example: ssh-keygen Generating public/private rsa key pair. Enter file in which to save the key (/home/cryptorootz/.ssh/id_rsa): /home/firsite/ .ssh/id_rsa Enter passphrase (empty for no passphrase): Enter same passphrase again: Saving key "/home/firsite/ .ssh/id_rsa" failed: No such file or directory what is the proper syntax to change a location for my other ssh key ?
