got miui 11 on Redmi 7

    To the folks @ Xiaomi

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 09:33 AM PDT

Xiaomi probably doesn't read this subreddit, but anyway, I have a suggestion for a product.

A cheap printer. And, more importantly, cheap ink!

    Because holy effin god,

To print 1,000 pages with the HP 63 will cost you $94.95 for 5 cartridges. To print 1,000 pages with the HP 952 will cost you $31.99 for 1 cartridge.

    And that's hella lot.

Xiaomi, please, consider making an affordable printer for us broke school/college students. In the way you do it: cheap, high-quality, fancy features, all that jazz. Please. We need a printer.

Difference between redmi note 7 global &not global

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 09:30 PM PDT

I ordered the Redmi Note 7 off Amazon clearly labeled as "global" version. When I look online, the global version packaging doesn't have Chinese on it but my box has Chinese on the top and bottom. Is this truly a global version if it has Chinese?

Am I the only person who still uses a note 4

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 01:08 AM PDT

By chance, I switched to using a Redmi Note 4 as my main phone. Here are my thoughts.

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 06:46 AM PDT

Hello there, coming from using a phone from Team Finland, my main phone was been a Nokia 8 which I've been using for about nearly 2 years at this point. But the phone is starting to give me issues. The battery started bottoming out at 1.5 years of use, but the phone is now practically unusable on a daily basis. It just happened that one of my mates (Who's an avid Xiaomi user), upgraded from a Redmi Note 4 to a Mi A2 not long ago. So he just gave his old RN4 for me to use temporarily until I get a new phone. I got the SD625 model too.

I've been using the Redmi Note 4 as my main phone for about more than a week now, and it kinda made me realized that I've been spoilt by all these range topping flagship phones. I didn't expect much when I started using the old Redmi mid range from 2017, but I think overall the experience was pretty decent.

Performance wise, going down from a SD835 powered phone to the SD625, again wasn't expecting that good of a performance. Sure the performance of the 625 isn't as snappy as the 835, but it isn't slow. Runs relatively smoothly for me overall. And I do play abit of Call of Duty Mobile, no high framerates or high graphics settings here, but it's playable and I scored a few wins at the same time.

As for the battery, ironically when my mate bought this RN4, it was about a month before I bought my Nokia 8, this was in early 2018. At this point, my phone's battery completely failed, the battery on the Redmi is still going on strong, still lasted me the whole day for my usage habits, and even better than my Nokia ever did. I'm totally used to having Qualcomm Quick Charge on my phones which this RN4 does not have, but the battery lasts long enough, I just need to charge it overnight. (I'm a college student, I spend most of my day outside and my phones would go through moderate to heavy usage.)

MIUI is alright too, I'd be honest and say I used to dislike MIUI, because I felt the previous versions of MIUI kinda looked too cartoonish for my liking. But MIUI 10(RN4 is stuck on Android 7.0 unfortunately) pretty much grew on me, I do like how it takes some design elements from stock Android Pie, and overall looks pretty nice. The only things I don't like, some of MIUI's bloatware, and it's aggressive background app management (I use Blokada as my ad blocker, MIUI always closes Blokada from running in the background, took me a while to figure out how to keep me running, but I did.)

The only things that I wish to have now, the camera is kinda bad(Still trying to figure out GCam), but that's just because I take a lot of pictures with my phone. The display and speakers could've been better, and the phone lacking Qualcomm Quick charge. Although this is mostly because I'm spoilt by having all those features on the past few phones I had which were mostly flagship phones. But the RN4 is doing pretty well for me.

Oh yeah, the IR blaster, it's something really neat to have (Sometimes can be fun too if you're a bored college student like me.), and even the expensive flagships of today lacks the IR blaster it. The only other phone I had which got an IR blaster was a Galaxy S4 which I used to have many years ago.

I'll have to say goodbye to this Redmi Note 4 and return the phone to my mate eventually, and my next phone would most likely still be a flagship phone, but after this one, kinda now realized I have less of a reason to upgrade my phones so regularly(For me it's been the usual every 2 years cycle). Also came to a realization that one of my other mates have been using a low end Redmi 4A for almost 3 years, and I'm actually going through almost 3 phones in the same time period (An Asus Zenfone 2 I had prior, a Nokia 8 and soon to be my next phone). My next phone, I'll get something I'll be pretty happy with, and keep using it for as long as I can, hopefully at least 3 years before I actually gonna find a need to upgrade it. If the phone's already doing good for me, don't really think I should upgrade just so soon

I apologize for this very long winded post, and I might sound like I'm all over the place. I can say more, but I'll just leave it at this, and if you seen me commenting something similar on one of the recent posts, I'm just adding a little more here. Just wanna share what I have in mind while using the RN4. But overall, pretty happy with it.

    Cheers everyone.

Redmi Note 8 Pro or Mi 9 Lite

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 01:13 PM PDT

Planning on getting a Xiaomi phone. These two are the same price and almost 100 euros cheaper than the mi 9t on eBay. Thinking of getting the mi 9 lite for the amoled screen, but the redmi for the faster performance.

How long has your Xiaomi Phone Lasted ?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 09:40 PM PDT

    Sup everyone.

    So I've been having Xiaomi since Mi3. Mi3 - Mi4c - Mi6.

All of them start to work quite bad after 18 months +/-.

So I'm wondering if it's only me who doesn't handle the phone very well or is just normal...

Right now my mi6 started to shut down out of nowhere, and restarting, with any ammount of battery. Even i bought an Anker Power Bank that is made for android phones (not iphone) it seems like it got completely f**** up.

Basically I'm about to change brand... Tired of having to change my phone because it stops working instead of just "meh, 4 years passed, I should get a new one".

Oneplus ? Huawei ? Samsung ? Any suggestions ? (I'm not going for iPhone)

    Thanks!

Mi 9T Roms, which one to go for

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 03:23 PM PDT

Tomorrow I'm finally able to unlock my phone and hopefully flash a rom. I used pixel experience+ on my previous phone which I really liked, before this I used lineage is on a mi5.

Looking at the options on XDA I see a couple of official and some unofficial Roms. Both of the above mentioned are unofficial.

I've never had issues with either as a daily driver, are there any solid Roms I should consider, what do you use and why? I see both havoc and evolution X as some of the more popular options on XDA.

I'm after something that's stable enough for s daily driver with working finger print, camera etc. Is it worth holding out for an official pe+ it Los, maybe Android 10?

Also, I noticed there was no Netflix on my mi 8 se with pe+, can this be avoided with the mi 9t? Something with widevine L1?

    Mi9 Lite impressions

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 06:25 AM PDT

So I got my Mi9 Lite just yesterday, but so far I have to say I love it. I switched from Poco f1, mainly because of the display as Mi9 lite has Amoled and way smaller notch. Well, I have just good impressions as of now, the display is really, like really great, bezels are minimal, so the screen (compared to Poco) feels way bigger and Amoled colors and always on display is just great. Sd710 is no problem for me, tried even CoD Mobile on medium graphic and very high frame rate and it's so smooth, like really I don't feel difference compared to Poco and the display has just better touch feel to it. Design and camera are both really good, and ultrawide camera adds another perspective to your photos :) Fingerprint reader under display works well, not as fast as best capacitive FP reader, but it's fast and smooth.

And it also has sd card slot, and even front selfie camera looks amazing so far...

TLDR: really great and balanced device with enough performance, all features (nfc, jack, sd-card), great display and great camera, really can recommend

The Mi9T has turned me in to a notch snob

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 06:26 AM PDT

I bought this phone a couple months ago as a replacement for Huawei. I was a loyal customer but I live in the US and since the Google ban, I was sad about no longer being able to upgrade so J jumped ship and came here. I chose the 9T purely on initial coolness factor. I had never seen a pop up camera before and stories about the amazing battery life sold me. But now that I have the phone, I'm not even sure if I really love it. I don't like how restrictive MIUI is. For example, I was able to use 100s of different fonts and themes without interruption from EMUI. I looked up rooting the MIUI and it looks WAY too dangerous and complicated. I'm not super techy and I don't want to brick my phone. I've been kinda looking for a replacement but since having this phone, every phone I've seen (in this price range) has some sort of notch or teardrop and it's an immediate turn off for some reason. It looks so ugly and intrusive. I'm trying to force myself to love this phone so I can keep it for the screen alone. But anyways, I'm rambling.

Does anyone have any words of encouragement on what makes MIUI superior to EMUI? Any suggestions about the 9T that would make me fall in love with it? Maybe point me to a tutorial for rooting that is in layman's terms for beginners? I really want to like this phone but idk anything special about it besides the outer looks of it.

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 05:05 PM PDT

I'm looking for a seller thats legit. That I can buy the Redmi note 7 128/64 global version from. Im in the us.

I tried amazon but now I'm sending back the second phone they sent me. Shady ass seller put the global rom on the Chinese version and sent me the same dam phone twice. Amazon dosnt care but at least I'll get a refund.

I looks on the mi site but I can't find anywhere on there to buy from them.

I'm just looking for a legit official place I can buy this phone. And it actually be what I pay for and the right phone.

    Thx in advance.

    Help! Fake AirDosts?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 10:18 AM PDT

So, i bought these two phones, but since they're both pretty different, i can't stop thinking one of them is fake (or both). Here are the differences. Both have pretty strong indicators, but i really don't know.

Also, the left one has a sticker as the logo, and the right one don't have the led in the case

Mi 9 vs Mi 9T Pro vs Mi Mix 3?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 10:47 AM PDT

My Mi 8's screen died the other day and I'm looking for a new phone. Obviously Mix 3 is the cheapest option here, and the 9T Pro being the most expensive, but the prices are so even I don't really care. I was going to go for the 9T, but stock ran out in my country (HK), and I had to chose between the 3.

I mainly care about the display and the camera. The 9 is kinda off putting because of the notch and the worse battery, but there's that wireless charging to make up for it. The processor is something that doesn't really matter to me, but a faster processor means better future proof-ing.

Seems like the 9T Pro is a good choice, what do you guys think?
