My team just wanted to thank this community for helping us

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 05:55 AM PDT

A few weeks ago, the Duet Display team reached out on this community to help beta test our app. We were overwhelmed with the response and feedback the community provided for our app. Although we only intended to give away 50 free copies, we gave it to all of the several hundred people that offered to test our app to express our gratitude.

We finally launched today on the Play Store and though we still have some improvements to make, we couldn't have done it without your help. Thank you again and excited about developing for the Android community!

[DEV] I've just released a beta for Bundled, a modern note-taking, list-making and writing app with markdown rich-text editing, powerful customization, a beautiful interface, a dark theme, and much more.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 03:20 PM PDT

Here's the Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xaviertobin.noted

After a lot of work, and ensuring the app was ready for testing with a few friends and redditors, the first beta for Bundled is available, finally (well, finally for me!).

Pictures speak a thousand words, so here are a few screenshots.

    And videos speak a million.

I made Bundled not only as a complete replacement for Google Keep, but a to-do list service and a mobile/tablet writing app. After using Bear on iOS, I felt there was a huge void for an Android equivalent.

The app features markdown rich-text editing (built using native components, not a JavaScript WebView implementation like many others), a very modern material design interface, a dark theme, full online-syncing with full offline functionality, reading mode that removes markdown, searching, sorting and a lot more.

It also is built around a unique information architecture: you create bundles, essentially their own customized instance of a notes app, for separating and organising content. It's not as complicated as it sounds, and there's a demo when you first get started.

Also, you know how on Google Keep you can't have multiple lists in one note? Checklists are clickable in a Bundled note, but they can also be separated by paragraphs, text or any other formatting. Not only that, but tags themselves can be made "To-doable", which means notes marked with those tags will be able to be marked as complete. You can also choose to have a tag change when a note is marked as complete - i.e. you could set up a personal Jira-like flow, where the "Planning" tag changes to the "Doing" tag and the "Doing" tag changes to the "Done" tag, as you click the checkbox on a note.

Also, the reading mode converts the markdown to HTML, and I'm going to add custom CSS support. This will mean if you're a journalist or writer, you can add CSS that will preview your notes as if they were written on your own site.

Your notes and bundles are tied to your Gmail address so they'll stay with you when the app is out of beta. I currently have no logging or analytics libraries in the app, and no personally identifiable info is stored. I'm in the process of preparing a proper privacy policy.

    Markdown formatting

    • *bold*
    • /italics/
    • ~strikethrough~
    • # Header 1
    • ## Header 2
    • ### Header 3
    • ``` codeblock ```
    • `inline` code
    • > quoteblock
    • _ checklist item (underscore then space)
    • - bullet point item
    • 1. numbered item

Stay tuned, more are coming :)

    Known issues

    • The formatting bar is in early stages, it's best to just type out the markdown for now.
    • 'Drag and drop' Bundle order doesn't save.
    • At the moment you can select multiple tags in the note editor, but only one tag saves.
    • The settings menu is incomplete.
    • Edge case bugs (and a few incorrect menu option icons)
    • and more, if you report them!

If you haven't read the intro post on /r/bundled, you can find more information there! Also, worth noting, this app will be paid after release - it's a pretty legit service, so it will be using a cheap subscription model from day one. Anyone who beta tests will have at least a year free.

I hope you enjoy the app! And please leave as much feedback as possible - this is the biggest personal project I've undertaken yet, and I'm really keen to get it right.

P.S. some of you might remember Redirect File Organizer from back in 2014. This the first project I'm releasing since then, so this is a bit exciting for me!

Edit: Thank you so much for the great feedback and the bug/crash reports - I've worked away at fixing quite a few, but to make sure I don't release a dodgy update I'm going to wake up and re-test with a clear head tomorrow. Thanks, and please keep the feedback coming!

Photos deleted from Google photos are also deleted from the phone gallery. How do I turn this off?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 07:34 AM PDT

Backup and sync is turned off already, yet when I delete photos with in Google photos they are also deleted from my local gallery.

In addition photos are automatically being uploaded to Google photos even though backup and sync is turned off, and I can't find the setting for that either. Thanks very much.

I thought I'd give it a try and so far so good. The only issue is that it seems to use more battery than Podcast Republic, the one I was previously using...anyone else had this?

I'm looking for a micro-scheduling app where I can plan out my work day in small increments.

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:15 PM PDT

About five years ago, at an old job, I came up with a great way of organizing my time so that I got all my daily tasks done: I would section out my work into hour/half hour categories. For example:

    9 AM - 9:30 AM - Task Category 1

    9:30 - 10:15 AM - Task Category 2

    10:15 AM - 10:30 AM - Break

    Etc Etc.

Is there an app that will allow me to do this? A regular calendar app could work I guess, but it doesn't seem right. A notes app doesn't seem right either. I feel like an app specifcally for this kind of micro-scheduling is the ideal form of this process.

    Thanks in advance!

Anyone familiar with the 'Wallet' or 'Spendee' apps? Is one better?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 08:12 AM PDT

They seem similar, and I don't really want to try both to figure out which one is better. Thanks!

[DEV] I built a Collaborative Trip Planning app - Firo

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 08:46 AM PDT

App links: Firo - create trips, invite friends and plan together

    Hi,

Me and my friend have been working on this side project for a while now. It used to be a struggle planning trips with our friends and a lot of times nothing would materialize and one person would end up planning for the entire group. So, we thought of building a travel planning app with collaboration first approach.

After long sleepless nights and crazy nightlong hackathons we finally released the mvp a month ago. Firo is a collaborative travel planning app where users can create trips, invite friends and plan trips together.

We got some critical initial user feedback from friends and family and iteratively fixed a lot of bugs/ux issues. We pushed new updates out last night and I think the app is finally ready for our fellow redditors to try. We are just two software developers working part-time on this. We don't have a lot of resources and any feedback around user experience, potential features, crash reports, bugs will help a lot!

Thank you so much in advance!!!

    Authentication from mobile

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:10 PM PDT

I use different computers each time I have to use one because of other users. The computers don't store any data between use aside from OneDrive and passwords are usually pretty long.

Is there an app which allows authentication (preferable without network needs) from my android to the pc

For example I log on to the pc go to email and tap authenticate on my android and as I already have the login stored on my phone it will let me log in.

I understand it's 1 point failure of the whole system but still.

    Thanks

    Apps similar to Minuum keyboad?

I love the Minuum keyboard but the dev never updates it, despite being a paid app. Is there any other keyboard app that can be configured to use a single alphabetic row?

Any new app that has the same concept as the old Songify app?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 11:29 AM PDT

A few years ago, there was an app called Songify .

The app was a bit buggy and had weird UI, but it had a nice idea: You record yourself say some stuff, and it will make a song out of it.

I wanted to show it to my cousins, and let them download it too, but it's no longer available.

I know I myself can get an APK of it and share it, but I was wondering if there are more apps that have the same concept.

it does not do this when using your fingers. -This only issue with Pen.

An app that allows multiple daily counters like a sobriety counter but where I can set a number of things?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 05:42 AM PDT

I have a sobriety counter but I'd like to know of a good free app where I can have a count of multiple things like not drinking, not wanking, not bingeing on food, etc.

    Any leads?

Searching for an ofline FOSS speech to text app for writing with my voice without network

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:44 AM PDT

Hello fellow android users , I´m prettily dissapointed by the removal of 3g networks in my country by vodafone´s money hungry politics. They recommended me to change to a newer phone but I just can´t stand newer frail and giant designs and I won´t obey a company who is directly attacking me.

I will use 2g until they shut it down too , so sending voice messages in telegram is almost unlikely due to long upload times , but I thought a speech to text app could help me use my voice offline when I can´t type. Could you help me?

Gallery Vault removed from Play Store?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 10:08 AM PDT

I've used gallery vault for years (yeah yeah nakey pictures and all) and all of a sudden, today, I received a notification from Play Protect saying the app is unsafe and so I ignored it for now and checked the play store. The app itself doesn't show up at all anymore, but the pro key is still there.

Does anyone know if this was just another accidental removal or something or if this app is actually bad?

I use gallery vault because it backs up to my Google Drive rather than it's own random cloud service. So I guess if this app is actually gone forever, does anyone know any other apps like this that back up to Google Drive and has an at least semi-current design?

"App advisor" app, that scans where apps send my data (if they do).

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 10:05 AM PDT

Norton antivirus has a feature called "app advisor", it tells me if an app sends data to somewhere, like "Whatsapp sends your data to Facebook in Los Angeles. I think that it does it by scanning packets. However, im not a big fan of Norton and i don't want a full antivirus to do this. Is there any specific app to do this?
