So I'm looking for a laptop that I primarily will use for programming and very light gaming (like Civ, Crusader Kings, Dead Cells kind of things). I have multiple gaming PCs at home, but I'm about to do a bunch of technical interviews and a lot of them require a laptop. This will be for that and I guess I'll replace my iPad when traveling so it should be very light. The gaming thing is not that important but it would be nice to have. So far I'm leaning towards the following: ASUS ZenBook 14 (but it's a bit expensive), Macbook Air 2019 (without touchbar), HP Envy 13, Acer Swift 3. But I'm looking for other ideas [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Oct 2019 11:17 PM PDT My current laptop has a busted screen and I'd rather replace than fix it. I need at least 4gb memory, 128gb storage, Intel i3. Chromebooks are fine. Don't really care about the rest [link] [comments] |

Can't choose between different Computers for programming Posted: 26 Oct 2019 02:51 AM PDT Hello everyone, I'm currently looking for a computer to do some programming work running on Linux ( Web dev full-stack + VM + some heavy Java project ) I was interested in the zenbook series at first but found out that there is a lot of issues with the UX series so I decided to look Somewhere else. For now I've got two computer I think will suits my needs ( good performance, good battery life and lasting for a few years ) but I can't decide which one is better so I'm asking for your advices 😁 1) Lenovo thinkpad X1 Carbon 7th gen I7-8565U / 16gb Ram / 512gb SSD and a decent battery life for around 1200€ The only drawback is that I find the Lenovo not quite beautiful 2) MSI PS63-8M-063FR I7-8565U / 16gb Ram / 256Gb ssd and a good battery life + good design for around 1100€ If you have any other recommendations I'm open to everything, Thanks [link] [comments] |
With the up and coming Black Friday... where should I buy a laptop online? Posted: 25 Oct 2019 05:34 AM PDT (Talking about a laptop...) So yeah... I am not from the US... but the timing is just right and a friend of mine is coming from the US at 05.12 which is a few days afterwards. I am wondering where I'd get the best deals online? Would it be amazon? newegg? something else? I am aiming for around 1500$ give or take... if i'll see an awesome deal for a bit more... I'd go for it. Anyways, from your own experience, where should I buy my next laptop? THanks for the help :D B.t.w - it is gaming and programming related laptop [link] [comments] |
Looking for a good gaming laptop below $900 Posted: 25 Oct 2019 09:54 PM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: $900, Philippines, around 46,000 pesos here Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I prefer specs How important is weight and thinness to you? The lighter the better for me Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. At least 15 inches Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. A bit of photo and video editing for school. I play Dota 2 Destiny 2 Apex Legends If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Dota 2 Destiny 2 Apex Legends at least at medium settings. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Looking for a EDITING LAPTOP at reasonable price. Posted: 26 Oct 2019 01:26 AM PDT Hey guys There is a laptop called "HP ENVY X360 15 dr0013nr" I need you suggestions Is this laptop good enough to edit 1920x1080 videos? Should I buy it? It feels and looks premium BTW. [link] [comments] |

Need a cheap as possible laptop, USA. Posted: 25 Oct 2019 04:40 PM PDT * **Total budget and country of purchase:** -As cheap as possible please, though I don't want to go down the Chromebook path. about $200USD? * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** The most important thing is storage. HDDs are cheaper so that preferably. I need at least 500 GB. I won't be using it for days at a time without access to an electrical outlet so about 6hrs battery would be desirable. I'm not picky on screen quality and stuff. I know that at this budget I can't really throw out much. **How important is weight and thinness to you?** -Doesn't matter. **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** -Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 14 inch at minimum. If that isn't possible at this price range and understandably so, I don't mind the 11. * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** Does MS paint count as photo editing? jkjk. Ill just be using chrome, word etc. basic web usage. No graphic intensive programs * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** 60fps on minesweeper is my minimum. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** I don't have any specifications here. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** The laptop is for my sister to do some school stuff on it and watch videos on youtube etc. I've been looking at the $300 Acer Aspire E15 but its a bit too much for our budget. I did some digging myself and realised that cheap laptops don't usually have great storage and well, that's why I needed help. Do you think I'll have to get an external HDD or something? I don't mind it + a cheap laptop. Once it's under 300. [link] [comments] |
Is a gaming laptop worth it (for me)? Posted: 25 Oct 2019 08:16 PM PDT I'm wondering if buying a gaming laptop is worth it in the long run compared to a regular thin and light laptop. My girlfriend and I both want to buy laptops, and she uses it for basic microsoft office work (Excel, powerpoint, word, etc.) and streaming movies, while I do the same but also do some light gaming (Overwatch, League of Legends, CS, etc.) as well. We both prefer Asus laptops, and we both want relatively light, good quality, good cooling, 17 inch laptops that last. Initially I was looking at the Asus vivobook 17 and the vivobook pro 17 for her, and either the Asus ROG gaming laptops or one of the MSI G(?)75 gaming laptops for myself. I started to wonder if it's better to just get a gaming laptop for both of us because I feel that those thin laptops are very fragile (or bad build quality) and have poor cooling, which makes them die a lot faster. Or is it actually the opposite and I can save money and just buy a vivobook as well? Thanks guys~ [link] [comments] |
I’m looking for a laptop for gaming and school and on semi-tight budget. Posted: 25 Oct 2019 07:48 PM PDT I was looking into buying a gaming laptop that I could use for school as well. My budget is around $1100 before taxes, and I was thinking the predator Helios 300. Is there a better one somewhere around that budget, and is there any other good time to buy it within the next couple of months other then Black Friday? For school, I don't mind carrying around a charger, but I do want it to be durable. [link] [comments] |

Edit: Just to clarify, I'm not really expecting to be able to get this used unless integrated graphics will cut it. I was more hoping for advice on getting used/refurb laptops as I have no experience with that. [link] [comments] |
Are there laptops as good as alienwares but cheaper? Posted: 25 Oct 2019 06:47 PM PDT I'm looking for a good gaming laptop and was looking into alierware laptops. I heard that they were overpriced because they looked fancy. I just wanted to know if there were laptops out there that were about on par as them but for cheaper. For reference the current alieenware I'm looking at is the new m17. My current configuration is two 1 terrabyte ssd's, 2 gigs of ram, geoforce rtx 2060, and a 9th gen i7 -9750H for $2,300. Help me find a laptop for editing and writing Posted: 25 Oct 2019 12:15 PM PDT Hello, i'm looking for a laptop mainly for photo and video editing (Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere, After Effects), writing (so a great keyboard is a must) and browsing, maybe a bit of light gaming once in a while. My main requirements are: - high quality screen, 4K and best color gamut possible, 15" - good build quality, i want to use it for the next 4-5 years and not have to worry about it breaking or stop working - good specs: i7, 16gb of ram should be enough (although i might upgrade to 32gb), dedicated graphics card, SSD - SD/microSD card slot (i will use it mainly for editing and i hate the dongle life) - good cooling, although i will repaste the cpu as soon as i get it - not thermal throttle under medium load (like only one adobe program running, nothing else) - good keyboard (so no macbooks) It will mainly sit on my desk, so i don't care too much about battery life or portability, just to be as powerful as possible. I also don't care for things like touchscreen, 2in1, etc. If it has it cool, but i'm probably not gonna use it. I will also connect it to my 4k LG external monitor about 50% of the time, when i need a bigger screen. After reading tons of reviews, I think the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme checks all the boxes. I would like to hear oppinions from people who have it (gen 1 or gen 2) but also other recommandations. Thanks :) [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Oct 2019 03:54 PM PDT I have had no luck with laptops this year. I bought an MSI gs65 here in Spain for about 1300 euros, brand new. It was almost perfect, but I noticed that it was really fragile. The first one came bent on both sides and had a really hard backlight bleeding. Second one was working fine for about two months, and then some dead pixels; returned it and they sent me another one, this time one of the hinges was broken, and not because of the courier. I was tired and I asked for a refund. So I bought an used t440p from eBay. 180€ + 50€ shipment (I live in the canaries, really expensive to send from UK). It was perfect, even when it wasn't as good as the gs65 in performance, I really liked it, but the motherboard died. Now here I am. I asked for a refund on that laptop, luckily they will refund the money but probably not the money I spent on shipment (50€ is a lot here). So now I really don't know what to do. I need a laptop with a good build quality, I don't want to spend 1300€ again on something that will break easily. Also I don't know about spending money on another used laptop, because I will obviously have to pay for shipping, and that's probably 50€ more, and if the laptop dies... Well, that's 100€ in just shipment, and without any laptop on my desk. What would you advice me to do? And which laptop will you recommend, for less than 1000€ in case of brand new and less than 200€ in case of second hand? I mostly use the laptop for programming, I don't really use virtual machines, and I don't really have time to play games at the moment. [link] [comments] |
