    Help!

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 07:05 PM PDT

I have a Mi 9T, latest software. My Facebook Messenger floating notifications keep on enabling after turning it off. It's not the chat heads, the ones that appear at the top of the screen. I have to keep turning it off ever so often. Is this a Facebook Messenger problem or this phone is the problem?

So.... my Redmi Note 7 (Global) has decided to place itself in a boot loop for no obvious reason. What are the causes?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 10:15 PM PDT

One minute I'm scrolling through Twitter then all of a sudden my phone goes into SOS mode and places itself into a continuous reboot cycle. I move the SD card over to my iPhone 7 and now I'm stuck here dumbfounded. I don't mod my phone or whatever you call it because it's too much technical jargon and I heard that your phone could become bricked. A shitty way to end the day imho, and it makes me REALLY want to reconsider buying a Xiaomi phone again.

    Mi mix 3 portrait mode

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 07:27 PM PDT

Does anyone know why my MI mix 3 chooses to use the telephoto lenses to take portrait photo instead of the ultra wide? Is this normal? And if so, is the quality of the bokeh photos kinda bad?

Mi 9 pro or Mi 9T pro? Which one should i buy?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 03:21 PM PDT

Just purchased a Mi 9T Pro, what are some things I need to know?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 01:12 PM PDT

I am making the change from a Redmi 3S Prime (woo)

I live in NZ so I purchased the Global Version.

I see a lot of talk on here saying "Make sure you get GCam" or "The .eu Rom is way better!"

Is there any more information I need to know?

Mi 9T (SD730) global / EU version updates?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 06:21 AM PDT

Been more than a month from last update, now it seems like Pro version is getting more time and Mi 9T forgotten :(

Where are updates for Mi 9T (K20 had few updates on this while)? Or will they delay next updates more for MIUI11 release?

Xiaomi/Amazon EU warranty policies when buying from outside the EU (e.g. Canada)?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 04:27 PM PDT

Hi, so I was thinking of buying the Mi 9T Pro off of amazon.de or amazon.es as they're officially sold by Xiaomi and they ship to Canada - and the final checkout price is pretty nice at only about 400 euros (so not much worse than Aliexpress with much better shipping). But I was wondering if I do so do I still get the same kinds of benefits that Europeans do, such as customer support / warranty, i.e. do those policies still apply if I buy the product outside of the EU? Thanks for any help/ info.

Switching to Google Pixel 3a XL from Xiaomi Mi 9T (Global version)?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 04:06 PM PDT

    Hey folks,

I have currently in the mind to switch from the Mi 9T to the Pixel 3a XL.

Yes, the Pixel 3a XL is more expensive but I guess it would be worth it because of the stock Android (which I'm a fan of) and proper support?

The reason why I have a switch in mind:
Xiaomi's Mi 9T is really a bang for the buck. I bought it for around 300€ (Global Version) so I didn't really expect 'high-end' performance but it literally blew my mind with it's price/performance. So like after one month of usage I have came across some issues with the device.

    • WiFi sometimes doesn't work (it's active and WiFi works on other devices)
    • Don't receive calls/messages (after a 'long' uptime of the phone 48h+)
    • Can't call / send messages (after a 'long' uptime of the phone 48h+)
    • Sometimes if I want to close an app in the recent app menu: If I swipe the app to the side another app takes it's place and I close that app but not the app I wanted to close.
    • I have the global version ROM of the Mi 9T and the preferred network bands are not set to my current region (Germany). I need to change these manually and after every reboot I need to change it again because it will not be saved.
    • Fingerprint scanner is weird. Sometimes it gets stuck and I need to press the power button once so the screen turns on and I can scan again. Also sometimes it takes ages to unlock the phone if I keep my finger on the scanner (when I just tap the scanner it's pretty fast but that also means it doesn't work all the time). I think it's because of the animation that is shown during the unlock phase.
    • Security patches are rare (as far as I can tell every 60-90 days).
    • Software improvements (MIUI updates) are super rare in the global version.
    • Chinese ROMs / devices have a lot more features than the global ROM / devices.
    • Always need to switch regions if I want to apply themes (can't stick on one region because of certain apps that check my region and current location)
    • NFC turns on randomly
    • Always on Display is the worst I have ever seen. There are only a handful of apps supported and the most apps I use will not be shown on the AoD (icons and notifications).

On paper the Mi 9T is the winner but how does it look on the software side?
So would be a switch to an Pixel 3a XL good or bad?

Thanks for your help and input! <3

How not to use quick charge when not needed

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 04:54 AM PDT

    Hi guys!

I couldn't expect more from my new Mi9T Pro, and probably the biggest improvement over the Mi5 is the battery life.

Anyway, I know from experience that quick charging a battery reduces its life, and I don't always need that. For example during night it's not an issue if it needs 3-4 hours to charge. Is there any QC charger with a switch for example to deactivate fast charging? Or any software solution?

    Thank you :)

Mi mix 4 =Mi Mix Alpha?!?

Is the Mi Mix 4 the Mi Mix alpha, or is it a more affordable consumer version beside the Alpha with similar specs but a less crazy display?

ips lcd vs amoled 2019 - questions

    Posted: 27 Sep 2019 11:44 PM PDT

what's are youtubes that shows accurate comparisons?

ips lcd has better shelf life? how much longer does ips lcd last?

viewing angles seems better in amoled? how much exactly are the angles better?

for most content like web pages, how much more energy efficient is ips lcd?

what's % chance that ips lcd can have inconsistence backlight bleed due to the manufacturing process (varied from panel to panel)

how many more colors exactly does amoled have over ips lcd? what do those colors look like?

amoled has clear motion reproduction, ips lcd has some some motion blur

    https://www.quora.com/What-is-better-an-AMOLED-or-an-IPS-screen/answer/Robert-Littler-1

i guess motion blur only matters for photos? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_blur

    things that do not matter

how much better contrast exactly does amoled have? seems like contrast is offset by ambient light so is nearly pointless

    thnks to quora:

i dont plan to use videos/photos much, i assume g maps would use less energy since gmaps uses colors?

how much less energy does amoled use for videos/photos?

seems neitehr is more color accurate

when or in what ways can ips lcd be more color accurate?

for eyes, niether matters no idff

niether is brighter? eyestrain is bsaed on brightness not screen?

    things that dont matter much

    ips lcd cost less

amoled can have a thinner minimal size

    more sstuff?
