I sold my Mi A2 and bought a Mi A3. These are my conclusions

    Posted: 11 Aug 2019 02:13 PM PDT

In August 2018 I sold my iPhone 5c and bought a Xiaomi for the first time: the Mi A2. I always liked the Google ecosystem and being a proposal with Android One I did not hesitate to buy it. A year later I can assure you that the A2 was the best smartphone I had in my life. Beautiful design, very good screen, very fast and, although the battery not very good, it lasted long enough. With the A2 I did many things, in this last year I tried different builds of different ROMS including the Pixel Experience and different cameras (Gcams versions). However, in the end I always kept the stock ROM (especially for the battery life) and the stock camera for reliability.

When the A3 was announced, the first thing I thought was to buy it. The difference in money here where I live (Argentina) was not much, but I began to see different reviews that warned against one thing: the hd + screen. Days thinking, watching different reviews on YouTube I decided and bought it. My feeling: I can't be happier to have bought the A3.

While the A2 had a beautiful design and good hand feeling, the A3 is much more comfortable because it is not so thin and the glass has a more premium feel than the A2 aluminum. The use of the screen is greater and the notch does not bother me at all. I feel that it is faster, I am not sure if the Snapdragon 665 or the resolution of the screen but I feel it more fluid. The camera: excellent. My uncle has an iPhone X and my brother has a Mi 9. We took several photos and it was difficult to guess which smartphone had taken which photo. The headphone jack is back, which is very good news. The sound, similar, although I think a little better, sounds louder. The fingerprint sensor is under the screen and, really, I don't think it's better than the A2 one. Go slower though, I must say, totally usable. In the same way, I set up the face unlock and it goes very fast so that is not a problem.

And now, the most important thing: the screen. I like the screen much more than the A2 one and I think it is superior. Being Amoled blacks are very good and the colors, although perhaps too saturated, I like them or rather do not bother me. Resolution is only an observable problem from an unusual proximity in everyday use. More than the resolution, it bothers the pentile matrix that generates that one can see a certain strange thing in the pixels, but, again, nothing serious. I do not understand those who returned the A3 for its screen since, without doubt, it is better than the A2. Being hd + makes it consume less battery, added to a more efficient 11nm vs 14nm processor, amoled technology and a 4000mah battery. It really is the best battery experience I had on a smartphone. If you think about discarding the A3 on the screen I think you made a mistake. Unless you use the phone 10cm away, you will not regret it.

Is it the best screen in the range? No doubt not. I think that the Pixel 3a has a better screen at a cost not much higher, the Xiaomi Mi 9t also has a better screen or a Samsung A50. Is the A3 screen better than the A2 screen? Yes, no doubt.

Live in Chicago have a Mi9 why is my 4g slow?

    Posted: 11 Aug 2019 05:29 AM PDT

I have at and t and I recently put the new sim card in. I get 4g and I am able to use it but it is incredibly slow.

How can I optimize this? Are there specific settings? Should I back to at and t?

Looking at getting a Redmi Note 7

    Posted: 11 Aug 2019 02:57 PM PDT

I am currently looking at getting a replacement for my Moto g6 since it was stolen. Currently, I'm deciding between getting a moto g7 or a Redmi note 7.

I've been looking at the note 7 but have seen people have had issues with notifications and wondered if this is still an issue and whether this phone is the right choice.

    Cheers

Question about posting on this sub about selling my phone.

    Posted: 11 Aug 2019 03:17 PM PDT

Can I make a post to sell my Mi Mix 2 on this sub, or is there a different sub for that.

I read the rules and I didn't really see a rule forbidding it except that it is not allowed to post affiliate links of a sale.

    r/Xiaomi Bi-Weekly Photography Thread

    Posted: 11 Aug 2019 04:57 PM PDT

Welcome to r/Xiaomi's Bi-Weekly Photography Thread!

Please use this thread to share photos and videos taken with Xiaomi devices and discuss photography, including camera hardware and software (such as GCam ports). Photos and videos don't have to come from a Xiaomi phone, you can post anything taken with a Mi Ecosystem product, let it be a smartphone, drone or action camera. However, if you post something taken with a Xiaomi phone, please share your phone model, ROM, camera app and camera settings as well. In case of a GCam port, please also detail the app version.

Media about Xiaomi products, like unboxing photos or video reviews, don't fall into the category of photography and should be submitted individually, outside of this thread.

On Reddit Redesign, you can directly embed media in a comment but if you wouldn't like to rely on Reddit, you can use any other website, such as Imgur, Flickr or YouTube, just make sure to post a direct link to your content.

The bi-weekly thread will be unstickied and replaced by a new thread every second Monday at midnight (UTC).

Thanks for reading and happy sharing!

Are the redmi airdots any good?

    Posted: 11 Aug 2019 10:08 PM PDT

I want to buy wireless earbuds (preferably tws) or headphones for my phone. My budget is at 40 dollars. The redmi airdots cost 35 euros here (40$). Is the sound any good?. I've been using the Sony xb50ap earbuds until now and I really like their sound quality.

Is there anything better than the redmi airdots I can get for that price or should I stick with them?

    Mi A2 Lite Battery Drain

    Posted: 11 Aug 2019 03:33 PM PDT

I have had my Mi A2 Lite since last Christmas and it's the best battery life I've ever had on a smartphone. It lasted me two days with moderate usage and that's including social media, redditing, taking the odd photo and obviously making and receiving calls and messages.

Recently, it suddenly became this: https://m.imgur.com/a/MInwole

I'm not sure what has happened but my phone battery drains without usage: in my pocket, overnight, whenever I'm using or not using it the battery is draining like there is something in the background. I have one app that runs all the time which is Stay Focused but I've had this several months without any issues. I tried turning off Bluetooth thinking it was my constant connection to my Mi Band 3 but the issue persisted. I also tried turning off WiFi and mobile data, yet the issue was still present.

Any help would be appreciated. Not sure if posts like these are allowed honestly, just joined and posted hoping someone could lend a hand.

    Thanks in advance!

    Xiaomi Smart Kettle heating error

    Posted: 11 Aug 2019 06:40 PM PDT

My Xiaomi smart kettle off the blue is no longer heating water. After a few minutes of waiting both the led lights on the handle show up red and the app shows "heating error". It was working perfectly well before this happened so have no idea what could have triggered it.

Any suggestion? Is it repairable. It's just over a year old so presumably out of warranty

    Thanks

    Wifi always on

    Posted: 11 Aug 2019 05:42 PM PDT

Under power usage in settings my wifi stays on even when I am using data only. Can I make where wifi is off and only shows on power settings usage when it is actually on. It seems to be on in the background or something I've checked all the Wi-Fi settings. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Just received the K20 Pro, what are the essential things that I should do right now?

    Change to videos

    Posted: 11 Aug 2019 01:34 PM PDT

May just be me, but recently after the last update for the Mi 9T, I've noticed 4:3 and 16:9 videos seem to have black bars on the top and bottom and fit better when using pinch to full screen. Am I going crazy or has there been a change for anyone else? Noticed it in YouTube Vanced, normal YouTube and Netflix so far. Not going to complain, as it cuts off less of the screen so it's a welcome change, but have only had this the last week or so since the 10.3.12 update. Happened to anyone else?

Edit: this wasnt listed in the changelog, but also noticed better audio quality in terms of bass when using hi-fi audio in the settings, seems to be better optimised. That's using Mi Pro 2 earphones as well as Airdots, seems to be better at rendering bass as well as audio seems clearer in general. Is thing something that would fall under "Optimisation" in the changelog notes?

2nd edit, with example: so, have an example with YouTube Vanced, but Netflix isn't letting me take a screenshot the same way banking apps don't allow you to? Even tried Google Assistant workaround, but black screen, same with screen recorder even. If someone else could verify it, would be much appreciated. Either way, here's an Imgur link to Vanced for the weird aspect ratio correction, screenshot and screen recording http://imgur.com/a/E2MU1aP

Red MI note 7 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM

    Posted: 11 Aug 2019 07:30 AM PDT

I have decided to buy a Red MI note 7 for my mum. She has been an iPhone user for a good number of years.

I was just wondering have I made the right choice for her as iPhone prices are getting very expensive. I would also like to know that will my mum eventually get use to Mi UI after using an iPhone for so long?
