Windows will not let me do anything, everything"requires elevation"

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 12:24 PM PDT

I've tried to delete accounts on my PC, but even that "requires elevation", nearly every solution I've seen online requires elevation and I can't seem to fix it. I have no clue what to do, it's getting extremely annoying.

I just wanna play Minecraft dawg, I don't know this is so complicated. What do I do?

How Can I Get Rid Of These Temporary Files?

Problem with Cumulative Updates (starting on version KB4503293)

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 11:39 AM PDT

    Hi,

Since a couple of weeks, I have had troubles updating Windows. Everytime , I try to update it manually (or Windows does it on its own), it downloads the whole update file, starts installing it, and asks me to restart my device. When I restart my Windows laptop, there is always a message 'Windows cannot complete updates...;' system reboots and updates are not installed.

Problems started with June 11, 2019—KB4503293 (OS Build 18362.175), were followed by July 9, 2019—KB4507453 (OS Build 18362.239) and July 26, 2019—KB4505903 (OS Build 18362.267).

edit: also struggle with August 13, 2019—KB4512508 (OS Build 18362.295)

    Any suggestions?

    HP NC364T NIC + Windows 10 + LACP = HELP PLZ!

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 12:23 PM PDT

I purchased this NIC, which is a 4-Port Intel Pro 1000 PT NIC with an HP logo on it. Anyway, the problem I'm having is that while my switch supports LACP, Windows 10 does not (running the commands to enable it in PowerShell results in a n error along the lines of this function is not available in this version of Windows")... But no big deal, right, since Intel software supports it... Well, I get an error that no Intel network adapters are found, so I can't install Intel ANS (the software that can do LACP)... the only driver I can get to work is the basic Microsoft Intel 1000 PT driver included with Windows 10. Please let me know if there is a good solution otherwise I'm going to buy newer NICs or Windows Server but both of those things cost money. Thanks in advance!

    Help Install PySceneDetect Windows 7

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 04:06 PM PDT

Hey guys, I need help installing PySceneDetect. I tried to follow the instructions but I failed miserably. I couldn't figure out where pip install is or what it is... In Anaconda I noticed the majority of the packages were already pre-installed and that OpenCV was under the not installed. I couldn't figure out why Anaconda 3.7/2.7 wouldn't install opencv from the navigator or from its cmd prompt. The whole process is confusing to me being a Windows user. Unfortunately, I'll probably need some sort of tutorial or guide in order to install PySceneDetect for Windows. Any help on this matter would greatly be appreciated, thanks.

Laptop keeps overheating while on windows 10 but not ubuntu

    Posted: 15 Aug 2019 11:01 PM PDT

OS: Dual Boot (Windows and Ubuntu) CPU: AMD Phenom II Quad Core @ 2.00GHz RAM: 4GB GPU: ATI Radeon Mobility Graphics 5200 On the latest version of Windows.

So my laptop gets quite hot even if you aren't doing anything on it. Then once it is too hot, my computer locks itself and then powers off. It then says about thermal shutdown and then I go back to what I was doing. Any help would be great since I could cook steak on my computer. Also little side note, it's a HP Pavillion dv7 Notebook PC.

I changed the taskbar to use small taskbar buttons as that was always a preference of mine. Anyway now the time is black text on the bpack taskbar I have set. I have to roll over it with the mouse to see it. Is there any way I can change the text to make it more visible.

Problem with August 2019 rollup update.

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 03:23 AM PDT

So, I have tried to install the August 2019 Rollup for Windows 7 three times now, and every time I do it fails to install it. It normally downloads and installs it and then when it wants to restart the PC it stops at 30% configuration. Shuts down and restarts me into Windows repair, does it's thing for 2-3 minutes and I can normally boot the PC again but the update didn't install. I have all other updates installed including the SHA-2 v2 update (which I read about prior to installing the rollup update). I have no idea what is going on and why the August 2019 update won't install. Any ideas?

I need advice on which of the following laptops to purchase before I start university this September.

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 11:28 AM PDT

Hello guys, the caption kind of says it all and I have boiled it down to three laptops. I really want the windows surface laptop 2 but I found one other laptop (hp) that has much better specs for a cheaper price, and then I found a Dell laptop for an even cheaper price with the same specs as the surface laptop 2. I don't really game at all but I just want a laptop that I can rely on and last a few years and that is NOT SLOW or crashes. I might be leaning on the hp laptop but I genuinely know nothing and I am here for guidance. here are the models. I appreciate any feedback! :)

    Windows 10 Pro's Update problem?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 10:54 AM PDT

    Good morning here.

I've experienced a weird problem; yesterday I restarted my computer to install some updates, as the computer itself told me to. Nothing wrong there, but today, when I turned it on, it showed me a Blue Screen, and told me there was an issue to fix, and restarted itself. Then it turned on normally.

However, I already had that issue some weeks ago, where the problem seemed to be a Update, and it repeated itself every time I turned it on, sometimes taking 2 Blue Screens before doing it properly. I did a process to uninstall the update, and the problem was solved until it came back today.

I don't think that forcing the computer into Safe Mode to uninstall the update (the way I fixed it last time) every time an update goes wrong is the most optimall way to solve this problem, so any suggestion or solution that you could offer will be appreciated.

Thanks for your time, and sorry if there's any issue with my spelling, as English is not my first language.

PC freezes every second and other problems

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 10:42 AM PDT

I usually have this happen to me every once a couple months or so, and usually its the drivers at fault. But this time, it wasn't. I started up my PC on an average normal day and my main monitor would not turn on with the PC... Weird. So I continued to use my PC and then I realized it started freezing every second. I went straight to my graphics card to update the drivers. Didn't fix it. I went to update Windows. There was an update, but didn't fix it. After hours of trying to figure out what was wrong, I settled with completely removing everything on all my drives and reinstalling windows. I came back to a fresh new PC... But my monitor still would not turn on and it was still freezing by the time I finished setup. The GPU stays at a fairly chilly 35°C and the CPU stays around the normal range too. I'm out of ideas on why this isn't working, other than change locations of my PC. Help would be extremely appreciated since I need to get back to working on it.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700x GPU: RX 580 PSU: Sewill ARC 550W Power Supply RAM: 16GB DDR4 TeamGroup SSD: 512GB TeamGroup External HDD: Western Digital 2TB

EDIT: Fixed problems by moving the location of the entire PC to a different room in my house

    Task View Timeline detailed view?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 10:37 AM PDT

My instance of Windows did a major update recently, and ever since then my Task View Timeline has shown a lot less detail. It used to show nearly every file/document I opened on a given day, with rough times that I had them open. Now it only shows 2 or 3 documents per day with no times and no way (as far as I can tell) to see a detailed view of a given day. Is there a way to restore this functionality?

    Can I use "A:\" instead of "C:\"

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 10:35 AM PDT

I remember back in the day how A:\ was reserved for floppy discs, but that was a long time ago and I haven't touched a floppy since 2000. Maybe I'm spoiled with how Unix does it (sdax, sdbx, etc. where x is the partition number and the letter is the disk), but Window's disk labeling is really outdated.

I have no idea why I'm really bothered by this all of a sudden, but I am and I need to vent about it.

Is there any way to use the A drive for the main drive Windows is installed?

    Windows 10 freezes

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 03:58 AM PDT

My PC sometimes freezes. It's a weird bug. I can still press some buttons, but nothing's working properly. I updated all my drivers, did a virus check, set many things back to default (like settings, bios), got no temperature problems. I have no idea why this happens! Some ideas on how to fix his?

Fresh Install Of Windows 10 on Laptop

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 09:22 AM PDT

I recently purchased the Lenovo C930 Glass edition. So far the experience has been good. But there is just too much bloat wear.

So, I have been planning to do a fresh install of windows so that I clean the laptop completely.

My first question is will the licence to windows I have be carried over.

Also do I have to use a microsoft account. I honestly don't like this feature. I don't want to add my account I rather have my laptop on its own.

Updgrading from W7 64 bit ultimate

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 05:30 AM PDT

Since W7 is finally being abandoned, I guess it is time to updgrade to 10. My question, how successful have people been in doing an upgrade vs a clean install? To many programs currently running, don't really want to re-install everything if not required.

Real-Time Protection causing massive memory leak

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 08:58 AM PDT

Hello, I've been dealing with an issue for over a year now and was hoping someone had a more permanent solution. For some reason windows isn't wanting to play nice and share my systems resources. If I leave the issue without turning off real-time protection and restarting my computer it will eventually max out all 16gb of my memory. I have found that turning off real-time protection alone doesn't solve it, I also need to restart the computer afterwards. I have tried all of the tricks such as adding windows defender to the exclusion list to no avail. Has anyone else experienced and solved this issue? The other thing that worries me is for most people it's maxing out their cpu, whereas mine is the ram. Thanks in advance for any advice.
