Need help with USB problem in new computer

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 05:51 AM PDT

    Hello everyone

Built a gaming PC on Monday and installed Windows 10.

I use a DualShock 3 controller (that came with my PS3) wired to the PC to play Rocket League. The only way I found it to work is through a software called Scp Toolkit. Not sure there are any other softwares that enable the PS3 controller to work on Windows or no but this is the one I use.

I'm having a bit of a problem with it. Everytime I have the controller plugged in and the software open, if I either remove the controller from the USB port or if I close the software, sound stops. And sometimes it even gives me a blue screen. On a brand new PC thats not even a week old.

I have the drivers updated, installed all the motherboard drivers and whatnot, so I'd like help trying to find the issue. Doesn't Windows have ways to find the issue like a log or something?

    Need help

Need help with windows startup not letting me put in password

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 06:53 PM PDT

So I gave my mum my laptop to do online shopping, I have opened it and tried to log into my normal start up - guest and personal - I use personal. I have a 4 digit number password however when I try to press the number 4 it presses enter instead? I have tried restarting it so many times and I'm really baffled as to how she's messed around with it, it may be something to do with the keyboard but I don't quite understand - willing to upload photos if needed.

Mouse pointer color turned grey after radeon graphics software "optimized" settings.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 06:28 PM PDT

The mouse pointer on my Windows 10 PC suddenly turned gray. I tried to use the Mouse settings to restore it to the original white, but when I select white, it remains gray. I had just let Radeon Graphics software "optimize" my settings, but I then restored them to the factory default. I am not sure if the pointer turned gray before or after restoring the settings to factory default. Thanks for any help offered.

Stuck on Login screen since doing a Windows Update

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 02:37 PM PDT

    Hello,

One of my computers at work needed to do a Windows Update and after the update I have been stuck on the login screen with only the 3 buttons on the bottom right being accessible. I have the windows 10 ISO so I attempted to do a startup repair and also have tried system restoring to before the update but I am still stuck on the login screen everytime windows attempts to boot up.

http://imgur.com/gallery/1zBLwM3 Image of what the startup looks like. Before there was one of the stock photos but ever since I did a system restore it's just been a blue screen

Thanks for reading and I appreciate any help!

How Do I Disable Volume Control In Windows 10?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 01:41 PM PDT

I have an external audio device that has a built in volume dial. I would like it to be the only control for the volume on my computer but I can't seem to disable the digital controls within Windows. How do I change it so the raw audio goes through my audio interface without being controlled in Windows?

Im stuck at the blue screen and the automatic repair is going on a lop. I know I have to get to the troubleshoot but I cant manage to get there. I have tried multiple ways including turning off the computer tree times in a row but nothing works. I can't find any other solutions and I hope to find help here if it's possible. The error code is Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area. Any help is appreciated.

    Black Screen

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 09:00 AM PDT

Not always, but some times when I boot my PC and log in I am greeted with a blank black screen. I have checked my registry and explorer.exe (I believe it is) is in the spot it is supposed to be for the start-up to function properly but I am still greeted with a black screen. Sometimes I can fix it by ctrl-alt-del and open task manager. Sometimes I have to log out then log back in, and sometimes I have to just wait and eventually it will work properly. Its odd bc sometimes my computer instantly works when I log in with no hassle at all. Also, my background doesn't show up sometimes too its all rather random (background is all black instead of my set desktop background)

I know I'm late to this party, but please bring back the Windows Ink Workspace's Sketchpad. Whiteboard is NOT a suitable replacement.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 02:28 AM PDT

Super disappointed and honestly kinda angry that Sketchpad abruptly got ripped out entirely and replaced with a stripped down online-only alternative. This is awful. Sketchpad was a super nice and responsive little app that worked well as a very quick effective drawing app. It's one of the few Windows 10 exclusive apps that I actually really liked. And now it's gone. :(

Windows 10 - No working monitor!

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 11:38 AM PDT

Yesterday I was trying to debug a blue tooth issue on my windows machine and I disconnected the usb driver responsible for connecting my universal dock. Naturally, I am unable to connect any monitor using any type of cable, hdmi, dvi, etc.

Is there a way to reboot the system such that it would forcibly connect to any device that or any monitor of any sort? The only thing it appears to be able to do is power on and off.

Windows 7 continuously fails to install update KB4512506

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 10:38 AM PDT

My windows 7 machine keeps failing to install this update. Its all good until the computer prompts me to restart. It reaches 30% of the configuring update portion, and then immidiately shuts down. When it starts again, it will automatically run the startup repair, and then restart again. It will boot normally the second time, but the update is not installed and is listed as failed in the update history.

Something to be noted is that I did put a Nvidia 1030 graphics card in the computer a while back, which causes the computer to bluescreen occasionally.

Generally I can find solutions myself, but I need help with an HDD here.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 10:32 AM PDT

I have a 2TB drive, fairly new, got it in the winter. I switched mobos and processor recently, and that drive has gone haywire. Whenever plugged in, Windows slows to a crawl. We're talking 20 minutes to boot (off an SSD), can't open an explorer window without explorer just crashing. I have 5 other drives, so it's not a huge deal, but it had a good 1.5TB of stuff on it that I'd like to get back. Any idea what's wrong here and how to get around it?

I should mention, the drive in question is a WD blue, and I'm on Windows 10 home x64

File Explorer alternative that looks AND functions well

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 09:06 AM PDT

Are there any File Explorer alternatives that work well AND look good?

I'm a designer who has made the switch back to Windows from MacOS in the last year, and this is probably my only major gripe. Doesn't have to be MacOS's Finder level of polish, but I'm looking for something that feels modern and clean, with good functionality. Done a lot of searching and testing, and it seems like I'm looking for a needle in a haystack.

Some features that would be nice:

    • Tabs, lol
    • Integration with Dropbox, OneDrive, etc.
    • UI feels like a modern computing experience from the last half decade, and not like something a software engineering student designed for a class project in 2006.

Free would be nice, but I'd be willing to pay $$$ for anything that came close to MacOS Finder in these regards.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

How to transfer Windows 10 license from an old computer to a new one

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 09:17 PM PDT

I'm building a new PC to replace my current one, and I want to save some money by recycling my Samsung 860 EVO SSD and using it in my new computer. However, I don't know whether I should simply put the ssd in the new computer and power it on or if I should uninstall Windows 10 on my current PC and install it on my new one. Btw, I have a retail USB version of Windows 10, not OEM. All help is appreciated.

Which freeware will install Win10 to USB drive? WintoUSB says "the free version doesn't support Windows 10 professional OS."

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 08:06 AM PDT

That is, that's the error message I get when I try to use WintoUSB.

I searched and everything recommends WintoUSB, or is a page trying to sell me their software. Isn't there freeware out there that will do this? To be clear,

**** I am not trying to create a bootable USB drive, I already have that, ****

I'm trying to install a fresh windows, from the bootable USB, onto a different external drive. I understand windows will block this if it knows that's what you're trying to do.

-Have windows .iso on a bootable pen drive created using Rufus.

-Trying to install windows to external 300Gb USB drive (not a pen drive)

    Thank you.
