Posted: 26 Aug 2019 12:48 PM PDT Just my opinion but I'm seeing a lot of people posting builds with 2080 (non super) when for about 20-30% less you can get a 2070 super, it performs just under the 2080. [link] [comments]
Your cable from the pc to the monitor goes into the gpu, not the motherboard Posted: 26 Aug 2019 12:38 PM PDT Hello, I very often see posts titled 'I built my pc but there is no picture on the monitor' or something like that. Often the problem is that someone plugged the display cable that goes from the pc to the monitor into the motherboard when they dont have an integrated gpu. If you have a graphics card (check for ports under the motherboard's io), the cable should ALWAYS go there. This counts for all types of ports including HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI or VGA. I made this post because it is the solution to a problem often, and hope to solve some problems with it. Image to clarify [link] [comments]
Cheap Chinese Water Cooling . . . seriously. . . Posted: 26 Aug 2019 01:02 AM PDT I've been tinkering towards a way to get custom, open-loop water cooling into the hands of the average PC builder and feel like I have figured out a functional way to get it done. For $135-$200, here's what I came up with to achieve premium-tier cooling performance pushing a Ryzen 9 3900X to 4.3Ghz all core. The goal is real custom loop performance, expand-ability, and longevity at the price of a good AIO. [link] [comments]
[ Build Complete ] "Byakko" White Tiger of the West Posted: 26 Aug 2019 09:41 AM PDT Out of the three computers that I have ever built in my life, this was by far the most difficult, time consuming and ambitious. But of course, it was awesome and absolutely worth it. Some links to the PCP and Imgur! [link] [comments]
Can I trust ASRock motherboards? Posted: 26 Aug 2019 04:57 AM PDT I'm going to build a Ryzen 3200G PC for around 375 USD. At first I chose the ASRock B450M Pro motherboard. But I saw some negative reviews about it on Reddit and Amazon like ASRock motherboards have crappy BIOS update, low quality control, poor in durability etc.Now I'm pretty confused. I'm building PC for the first time. So it would be nice if you help me with choosing the best possible parts at this budget! [link] [comments]
Black Friday / Cyber Monday Experience for prices Posted: 26 Aug 2019 04:53 AM PDT Putting together my first PC. I have a 'want' build, and an alternative 'budget' build. I plan to be pulling the trigger on Black Friday. Does anybody have experience with prices at this time? Are there significant discounts, or minor? Just trying to get a rough idea so I can modify a few parts on the expectation of savings from the Black Friday / Cyber Monday event allowing me to take a few parts a bit further. Edit: probably worth mentioning I'm in the U.K. But I guess use the thread to educate the people anyway [link] [comments]
My AM4 cooler bracket spontaneously broke today. What the frick? Posted: 26 Aug 2019 02:49 PM PDT Today I booted up my PC and noticed my CPU cooler looked a little skewed. Worried, I opened her up and gave the cooler a tentative wiggle, no movement. Relieved, I put the lid back on the hot sauce and booted it back up. This time the cooler was clearly not in place, and I'm getting telltale signs on my screen that all is not well. Panicked, I flicked the off switch on my PSU, and frantically unplugged all my cables and took the side panel back off. This is when I found the cooler was only secured by the top hook, the bottom retention bracket had come loose and the cooler was barely touching the CPU. I was bemused, how had this happened, I hadn't touched the inside of my PC or even moved it since I built it three months ago. Oh well, I thought, I'll just clip it back on and away we go. That's when I notice the clip on the motherboard cooler bracket has completely sheared away, and is now flapping around like an old woman's bingo wings. I've ordered the new bracket and some nea thermal paste, but my precious beast will be out of action for a few days. My £1300 PC has been crippled by a £4 part. I've never had something like this happen before, have any of you? [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Aug 2019 03:13 PM PDT So I'm planning to upgrade my PC within the week, and am really stuck on which card to get. I've watched benchmark videos for both, and it's pretty neck and neck in some games, however, most of these benchmarks don't really feature the games I play. I figured this sub may help me reach a consensus. My monitor is a 144 Hz Freesync/G-Sync certified monitor, so adaptive sync works in both cases. The games I play are Monster Hunter World, Sekiro, GTA V, Skyrim (heavily modded), Final Fantasy XIV, Black Desert, Resident Evil 7, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Tomb Raider reboot trilogy, and Breath of the Wild through Cemu. Validate this old dad's first build in 6 years Posted: 26 Aug 2019 10:55 AM PDT Build Help/Ready:Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do) Yes What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. Gaming. This is a complete hardware refresh and my first build in 6 years. Maybe will do a mild overclock because I can. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings) 1080p/60Hz gaming right now, but pushing resolution and/or refresh rate with a monitor upgrade. What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? $1200ish before tax In what country are you purchasing your parts? USA Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).
Questions/Comments * 3600 seems to be the consensus pick over the 3600X, especially with the aftermarket cooler. Is it the right choice? * For the case, I don't really care. I just want something easy to get into and out of that won't slice my fingers if I nick the side. If anyone can recommend a case with a somewhat hidden power button, my 18-month old loves to come over and hit mine at inopportune times. * Is it worth waiting around for any additional AIB boards for the 5700xt? Or just get the Sapphire Pulse because it is (currently) in stock and seems as good as any. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Best mobo with wireless networking for the 3600? Posted: 26 Aug 2019 01:59 PM PDT This my soon to be pc rn I'm thinking of ditching the 212 and the 2600 and get the 3600 cpu but I don't know Mitch about x570 boards and how reliable b450 boards are with 3rd gen ryzen [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Aug 2019 10:37 AM PDT Long time ago I bought a 30g tube of mx-4 or whatever it's called. I'd rather not buy more if I don't need too but it's pretty old. Does stuff like this ever expire? [link] [comments]
Last sanity check before ordering Posted: 26 Aug 2019 07:14 AM PDT Greetings to everyone! Pay day is approaching and I finally have enough saved for my next build! I have been swapping parts around in pcpartpicker for some time now and I just want to get some feedback on my selections here and also get some answers from the more experienced builders in the sub. So this PC will be used for NetSec studying, penetration testing and password crunching. Some light dev work might occur but nothing crazy. As a result I am looking at having 2-3 VMs open at all times or most of the time and using my GPU for testing password strength with Hashcat. I will be dual booting Win10 and Manjaro Gnome with Manjaro as my main OS. Windows is going to stay mainly because I want a way to control the lighting in my case and peripherals and that ironically seems to be the best option at the moment. Can't really control anything except for the K95. Gaming is going to be scarce with ESO and maybe any interesting newer titles every now and then. Limited by my monitor, I cap at 1080p-75Hz so from a gaming perspective the GPU is overkill, I know. Also I wanted to go with the higher tier in terms of CPU, mostly because I want it to last and also because of the multiple core count and multi-threading performance(VMs). EDIT: mobo price is currently at ~190GBP So here is my current build and following are my questions: PCPartPicker Part List I am still not decided between the O-11 DYnamic's color choice as I keep seeing photos of builds with the white one but they are all with lights out. I would love to seee how it looks under natural light and when it is off/on. If anyone can share such a photo, it would be really appreciated. I have not included any additional CPU cooling as I am going to run stock for a month or two then custom watercool the CPU, then the GPU. I will be looking in an additional HDD that will fit the bulk of my files and backups but it is not a priority either. Depending an any deals happening on the day of purchase and after gathering feedback from this post I might be getting a 850W PSU, what the heck. This build should and I believe will last me for 4-5 years before I get the urge to upgrade. I am certaing that except for the graphics card, It will still be relevant and packing a punch. Lastly I have never built with AMD before so if there any tips anyone can share, they are very welcome. i.e. the "twist" you need to do for removing the cooler after stress testing. New Build Set-up -guise got any good skills to share for a stable running 3900x+5700XT Posted: 26 Aug 2019 02:21 PM PDT I am building a new PC. First one done in years. Mainly for gaming/streaming. Specs; -MSI X570 Carbon Pro -750W -5700XT -3900X -Ram - still considering. My questions are on the lines of; Do the BIOS need updating? Since it is a new X570 I dont need to update right? What are the known dontdo for 5700XT and 3900X as of now? Undervolt the gpu a tad? because of heat? Do not oc with stock cooler gpu? I know the 3900X is overkill as of now but I am buding for long-term and money is no issue so we dont need to get into that. Dont OC the gpu? Dont need to update the BIOS? If yes why do the bios need updating? ram timing/voltage control? I have never updated any BIOS and have slight concern that if it goes wrong it goes very wrong correct? Still waiting for 3900X to come in stock where I live 😥 All help and tips are most welcome. The amount of answers Reddit has is truly amazing. -Z [link] [comments]
Acer nitro vg2070up g-sync comaptible??? Posted: 26 Aug 2019 03:48 PM PDT Hello, i bought this monitor and i might get a good deal on an rtx 2070, my questions is: Is the monitor gsync compatible? I need it working fully and not 50/50 [link] [comments]
Need recommendations on new 144hz monitor(s)... Posted: 26 Aug 2019 02:13 PM PDT Howdy all, I will be upgrading my old rig sometime within the next year, not in any rush, but right now I really want to upgrade my old monitors that I've had for like 13 years. They're both 60hz, so it's time to move on. Now, I wish to shop around with the idea in mind that I will be upgrading the rest of my kit later. Problem is, I am so out of the hardware loop that I have no idea what brands are good, what additional features are good, what tech is out there, etc. These will be mainly used for gaming. So here's what I at least know I'm looking for: 144hz 1-2ms (could go higher if need be) 24-27'' max. Resolution: I'm really not too much of a stickler when it comes to anything above 1080p so I'm not too picky here. 1440p would be great, but if there are monitors with more reliable specs at 1080p then that's fine. Any advice on this would be helpful as I have no long-term experience with anything above 1080p. The rub here is that when I upgrade the rest of my rig I don't want my monitors to be left behind, so maybe higher res would be better in the long run? No idea if it's just preference or requirement at this point in regard to compatibility with other hardware. Price: I'm thinking $600 max for duals, $350 max for single (no problem just buying one for now and getting another later, but duals would be ideal). That should about cover it. Thanks in advance! I look forward to your replies. EDIT: Price isn't the biggest contributing factor so just put down a number I thought may be decent. But a bit higher isn't a problem. Rtx 2080 ti build. Finale thoughts before purchase Posted: 26 Aug 2019 11:08 AM PDT So after some research and help from reddit ive put together this list. Does this build work and are the any bottlenecks anywhere? I wanted to make a build with an intel cpu. Is there anything i should upgrade in the build? I could probably spend an additional 100-200 euros if the upgrade is worth it. Any thoughts on the build would be much appreciated. There are two custom prices in list in case it doesnt translate to your currency. Gpu: 1300 euros Psu: 110 euros [link] [comments]
"Input not Supported" on new PC fix? Posted: 26 Aug 2019 02:26 PM PDT I just built my new pc, and as such there is no operating system on it at all. I hook up the computer via hdmi from the video card to the monitor and I get a black screen and a floating box that says "Input not Supported". I know that both the monitor and cable are working, cause I tested them with my laptop. But the pc can't seem to display on the monitor. And all the fixes I see use windows to change resolution settings, but I don't have windows installed yet. How do I fix this? The monitor is Acer SB220Q bi 21.5" Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS Ultra-Thin Zero Frame Monitor (HDMI & VGA port) [link] [comments]

New Ryzen 3700x and Strix-f Mobo. - Had to reinstall windows after updating the BIOS Posted: 26 Aug 2019 02:21 PM PDT Just finished building my new PC this weekend. With the Ryzen 3700x and x570 mobo's being so new I thought it best to update the bios. I foolishly waited until after I had installed Windows and a some apps. The way I did it was, I downloaded the latest bios for my mobo and, copied it to a USB stick and used the BIOS to do the update. After this it refused to see a boot device, though it showed the M.2 drives as being installed. I even booted off a Linux USB stick and confirmed the drivers all worked fine. Anyway, I ended up reinstalling windows on the off chance it got screwed and bingo, everything worked again. I've done loads of BIOS updates in previous years but it has been a while so I'm guessing something has changed. The BIOS was set to use UEFI rather than Other OS, so maybe I tripped the secure boot thing. Is this expected behaviour? any recommendations for how I do this in the future? A question about processors and gpus. Posted: 26 Aug 2019 04:04 PM PDT I believe this is somewhat of an advanced question. I have two systems I play Rocket League on, my desktop and my laptop. Desktop: desktop: i5 3570k @ 4.5ghz OC, Gigabyte RX 580 8GB, 8GB DDR3 RAM The laptop is able to play Rocket League at max settings with much better frames and performance than my desktop. I know my desktop is older (DDR3 RAM, half the RAM, old processor), however the desktop cpu is usually around 50% utilization, although the desktop gpu is near 100%. I thought that means that the gpu is the bottleneck in this situation, however I thought the RX 580 and GTX 1060 were relatively similar. Sample video of desktop with graphics settings Sample video of laptop with graphics settings Basically what I'm asking is, what is the performance difference. Is it the RAM? The CPU? If I was to upgrade my desktop, would a simple upgrade to a 2060s or RX 5700 XT or something solve my issues, or is it deeper and requires new CPU/MB/RAM? Thanks for reading. Posted: 26 Aug 2019 03:58 PM PDT This is an updated version of my previous post. Hey all, It's been a while since I've messed around with building a PC and I wanted to get my old gaming computer running again. Before I left this PC, it was fantastic never had any problems. I left it alone for a while (~2ish years), tried adding more RAM, but it failed to boot, so I left alone for a while again. Considering the investment, I want to try and get it running again. Specs: Mobo: Asus P7P55D-E LX CPU: Intel i3 550 @ 3.2GHz GPU: GeForce 9800 GT 1024MB RAM: Patriot Viper (x2 4GB) PSU: Thermaltake TR2 650 AL3CH But here's the problem: I get the PC to start up (all fans and lights running), sometimes I get the Asus splashtop screen and use my keyboard (or mouse) via USB to navigate to BIOS. I get to the next boot screen which says Asus Mobo.. press Del to enter BIOS yadda yadda... but I can't seem to get past this screen and into the BIOS. Things I have tried: move jumper cap from 1,2 to 2,3 to clear CMOS I believe (specifically, CLRTC) . A different keyboard. A different monitor. A new battery for the Mobo. Have no hard drives plugged in. Have 1 or the other hard drive plugged in. Press MemOK! button and cycle through the IO Levelup states. I'm just at a lost for what to do. Any suggestions would be great! UPDATE: I managed to get into the BIOS by removing 1 of the RAM sticks. Went through the Asus mobo manual to make sure everything was set up properly. However, now when I boot up the OS the monitor says Starting up Windows then cuts to blue screen. So some progress, any suggestions on what to look into now? Does a EVGA 500W BR fit a Dell 660? Posted: 26 Aug 2019 03:57 PM PDT I'm trying to upgrade my Dell 660 with a RX 570 4G. Do any of you with a Dell 660 know if this PSU would fit? Also, does it have an 8 pin for the graphics card? (Please give me some PSU recommendations too; preferably 500+ watt PSUs) [link] [comments] |
