Looking to purchase my first gaming laptop Posted: 26 Aug 2019 11:24 PM PDT * **Total budget and country of purchase:** $800-$1000 USD, Flexible Budget, as I am looking to purchase this around the time of Black Friday, USA * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows 10, please. * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 15.6 inches or larger * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** I will be using this for gaming. * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** I plan on playing Overwatch, Rocket League, and League of Legends among other things, but I will be playing these games the most. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** A good keyboard would preferred * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** My minimum requirements: i7, 8 RAM, 6 VRAM, Dedicated Graphics card, Preferably a 1 TB HDD and a 128 SDD, 1060 graphics card (I wasn't quite sure where to put these). Digital illustrator on a budget Posted: 27 Aug 2019 03:01 AM PDT Im looking for a fairly cheap (sub500 in the US) laptop. It needs to run windows sinds i know the drawing softwear I use does not run elsewhere. Programma also requires decent computing softwear. Besides this I just use it for schoolwork/streaming/the basic shit Around14inch Decent battery life is definately a plus sinds Im a student and do a lot of work outside of home. I googled around a bit and ended up at lenovo ideapads, are these any good? Any other ones that would be better? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Aug 2019 01:55 AM PDT So I am looking to buy a new computer and I am curently thinking about either a new desktop (Core i5 9600k, gtx 1660 ti, 16GB 3000mhz RAM, 1tb ssd, 2tb hdd for 1348,09€), a lenovo y540 15" with the foolowing specs: i7 9750H, 1660ti same storage and 16GB 2666mhz RAM, 144hz display for ~1300€ or same specs lenovo y540 17" for 1410€ Country of purchase: Germany Is that a good deal? Or do you know of something cheaper with a similar Performance (Storage is crucial, weight shouldnt be too much more than the y540. battery isn't quite as crucial but would be nice to have decent. price shoukd be around that or less) Edit: would it make sense to go for a RTX 2060 in the laptops for 100€ added to price on the 15" Y540, or 270€ on the 17" Y540? It is a little over my budget but i might be able to squeeze it in [link] [comments] |
Fairly cheap laptop for both college and gaming? Posted: 27 Aug 2019 01:53 AM PDT So I'm heading to college soon and i've been wanting to get a laptop that can handle normal school things and some decent games like terraria and the sims 4. I'd like To keep it as close to 600 euro's as possible(or below) but i can understand if thats too low. (sidenote is it worth it to get a secondhand laptop instead? This saves money but I assume it would have an effect on performances.) [link] [comments] |
Cheap Laptop for an accounting student? Posted: 27 Aug 2019 04:52 AM PDT Going into my first year as an accounting student in university, here's what I'm looking for: -able to handle large excel documents without crashing/slowing -10-key numberpad -(ideally) under 500$ (Willing to go a little higher) -able to download most accounting software (Sage 50, etc) I know there's probably a lot that fit those requirements but I'm clueless as to what specific specs I should be looking for/ where to start looking. Help please! [link] [comments] |

Lightweight laptop for computer science student (1200 euros) Posted: 27 Aug 2019 12:26 AM PDT Hello, I am a computer science student who occasionally games (but the games I play are not graphically intensive, no Witcher or GTA). I am looking for a laptop mostly to code and also to game. I am replacing my 13 inch macbook air that I had since 2013 so I am used to something a bit small and lightweight, so a 13 to 15 inch screen would be best but not too big. My budget is around 1200 euros but it can accommodate for higher. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Aug 2019 07:11 PM PDT Could someone recommend me a laptop that can get me through four years, or more? Edit: Specs: $200-$500 U.S. (if over 500 please still recommend) looking for a good price OS: preferably windows At least 1 TB HD space At least 8 gb RAM [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Aug 2019 03:47 AM PDT
the recommendation guide suggested Acer Nitro 5 in my range, is it still the best option? I'm also not able to find that price, is it a US only price? I'll be grateful for any advice to guide me on the purchase [link] [comments] |
Laptop for a Network Tech Student Posted: 26 Aug 2019 09:37 PM PDT I am at a 2 year technical college and am looking to get a new laptop to get me through it and my online classes. I would prefer at least an I5 with 8-16gb of ram and an ssd instead of a hdd would be preferable. If you have any different ideas that you think would help me more through my program as a Network Technician I am all ears. Thank you for your help! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 26 Aug 2019 10:53 PM PDT Hey guys! I'm in the market for a new laptop for school. Nothing too beefy is needed, just for general note taking etc. I'm aiming for at least an SSD over a HDD, so fast boot times and general system responsiveness is pretty good, not bog slow. A 1080p screen would also be amazing, but not sure if that's possible for the price range of $400-$500. Thanks! (edit: AUD! I am based in Australia) Also I may be able to stretch the budget a little bit depending on the circumstances.) [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Aug 2019 01:45 AM PDT Hey guys I'm just trying to decided between the XPS or g5 15 the only difference that I can really tell is the g5 has a i7 processor and the XPS has an i5 Also the G5 has a 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive (Boot) + 1TB 5400 rpm 2.5" SATA Hard Drive and the XPS has a 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Aug 2019 01:37 AM PDT Current laptop is a Asus GL552VW, would like to switch to a thinner and lighter laptop. This one currently meets all the requirements but a size downgrade is required for travel purposes. Need some advice please as I'm a bit out of the loop on current models. For reference, current specs: I7-6700HQ, 16GB ram, 2TB storage, 15in 1080p ips, GTX960M, Windows 10 pro Original requirements in 2016 were: - Fast cpu for multitasking - 16GB ram - 15in ips monitor - 2tb storage - Decent gpu - USB C port (for docking station) - Windows 10 Pro The Asus ticked all those boxes but some requirements have changed. Do not require the 15in ips (but do require 1080p), that much gpu power no longer needed, must be lighter/thinner, would like similar performance. Am slightly concerned about heat with moving to a thinner laptop. Any advice/recommendations much appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Laptop specs for dummies? Which one do I get - graphic design student? Posted: 26 Aug 2019 08:32 AM PDT Hi there. I just got an HP Envy x360 ( https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-envy-x360-2-in-1-15-6-touch-screen-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-256gb-solid-state-drive-natural-silver-sandblasted-anodized-finish/6338813.p?skuId=6338813 ) b/c the salesperson at Best Buy essentially shoved it down my throat saying it was the best and cheapest they had for graphic design students, and I panicked so I just got it. Is there something cheaper I can get that will work as well? I am starting school next Tues. (back to school for graphic design) and have to run Adobe CC programs. I just want to know if there are other laptops out there that are cheaper than what I spent ($600) or maybe a lateral move - are there laptops out there that are the same price that are better than this one for my purposes? I really don't understand much about all of the #s, I just know whatever laptop I get, it has to run Adobe cc well. The last laptop I had (A Dell Inspiron) would black screen almost every time I tried to use Adobe CC. Thank you for your advice!!! [link] [comments] |
How bad is 45% sRGB and 250 nits? (Lenovo Legion Y7000SE) Posted: 27 Aug 2019 01:09 AM PDT Abstract: I'm planning to purchase a laptop that's also capable of some moderate desktop work: mostly light video editing in batches, no color grading, no effects and enconding 1080p, photoshop editing (creating flyers and blog post images/infographics), as well as Word & Excel. I'm not a gamer, not even an amateur one, however it would be nice to play some of these titles I see in most gaming laptop reviews to relax 1h each day. The facts: I don't have too much money to invest in such a device, and I would like to purchase something that is even marginally future-proof. Since I do a lot of typing, I found that Lenovo's keyboards are really good for this kind of job so I decided to settle on a model from them. However, in my country (Romania) my budget allows 3 main options: Legion y530 (8300h/gtx1050), L340 gaming (9300h/gtx1050) or Y7000SE (9300h/gtx1650). Most of you don't know they7000SE because it's only sold in some parts of the world. I don't particularly like the red keyboard, however I do like the specs. The only problem is that the model that I can afford has a very very crappy display from what I can tell. This is rated for 250Nits and 45% sRGB. Coming from a Dell Insipiron N5010 from 2011, would I notice such a big difference? I know I can't rely on it for photo editing, but I don't plan on doing that anyway. I'm just curious if I can get used to it and work on it 6-7-8 hours a day. Or it would be better to go for the Y530 and it's slightly better display (300 nits and 72% sRGB or something like that, I'm not sure). The L340 has poor thermals and performance from what I can tell, also just one RAM slot. [link] [comments] |

Which is better life Dell G5 or the acer predator helios 300 Posted: 27 Aug 2019 12:22 AM PDT Guys I have several laptops in mind and I am not sure which one I should pick, i need to bring it to school. My needs are: Decent/Long battery life (4.5 hours is decent for me), I will use it for programmer and also game dev, and sometimes playing games. -What about the Acer predator helios 300? - I wonder the battery life Some say 3hours some say 6, And I know that battery life depends on what you do but just calculate from watching 1080p video screen at 50% This will cost me €1350 -Also another laptop in my mind is the Dell g5 with i5 and gtx 1650 (as I am good with ~50/60 fps on medium and high is this enough) and this will cost me €880 (thats why i was interesting I dont want to buy a unit that can't last me for years) Anyone any idea on how the thermals are with both because i read a lot bad about the dell? And how the battery life with both is? (I wrote this on my phone and quick sorry for my bad english) [link] [comments] |
