Sorry if the page is in french but if you go to "Fiche Technique" you will find the specs. If you guys know a better option available in EU, make sure to tell me ! and if there is something to say about this pc, also tell me ! [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Aug 2019 10:08 AM PDT I currently have an aging HP that I plan to replace. The specs are i7-4510u, 8GB RAM, GT840M, win10. I have been toying with the idea of replacing it with a ThinkPad. My usage is limited to spreadsheets, media consumption and Age of empires which could probably run on a toaster. The real constraint for me is budget, which brings me to the model I'm looking at, the E480. The base model I'm looking at ( i3-8130u, 4GB, DOS) costs 540$ converted. I'm also being offered 130$ for my old laptop as replacement. Effective price comes to around 400$. I plan to stick in 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD once I purchase it, bringing my cost back upto almost 500$. Is the decision right? Given my use case, should I look for something else? Best gaming Laptop for my Budget/spec requirements Posted: 09 Aug 2019 02:04 PM PDT Hey Folks, First time in this sub so hope I'm doing this correctly. Basically looking for advice; was going to get the Lenovo Legion Y740 15" w/ 2070 Max-Q for around $1569 (before tax), but figured I'd check for some advice first in case there's something better out there.
Performance and reliability are my focuses; I want to be able to play games at the high framerates on high settings, but don't want to be troubleshooting or dealing with overheating a lot, and plan to hold on to this PC for years to come. No need for built in optical drive or additional gimmicky type of features like touchscreen.
Thanks for the help! [link] [comments]

[Lenovo g-70]What price should I Expect for this replacement? Posted: 09 Aug 2019 09:51 AM PDT Recently, my laptop's (lenovo g-70) charging port had become damaged to the point that had to be replaced. The technician who did the repair is now quoting 55 GBP. I have never before had to deal with laptop repairs so I don't know if this is a reasonable consumer rate that one would expect. Any help would be much appreciated. [link] [comments]
Dell Inspiron. Nothing more than a specs sheet Posted: 09 Aug 2019 12:42 AM PDT TL;DR at the bottom <rant> I recently picked up the Dell inspiron 13 (7000 series i7 model with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD) from a local computer store and I can safely say that I've never had such bad buyer's remorse. I really shouldn't have bought this computer. Before I go into what's wrong with it, I'll explain why I bought it in the first place. The specs on the Inspiron range are pretty unbeatable for the price. Dell was running a 30% of promotion on their website when I got it, so the store matched that price, which put it about $300 cheaper than anything else else with equivalent specs. It's a 2-in-1 with a full powered CPU (U series), rather than one of the less powerful mobile models (Y series) found in most 2-in-1 laptop/tablets. It comes with its own active pen at no extra cost. It also just looks great. It feels like a well-made premium product, unlike some of the more plastic units at this price point. Overall, it's an excellent laptop on paper. Unfortunately that's just on paper. This doesn't translate to a quality real-world product. After buying the computer, I took it home to get it all set up, only to find a firmware issue. I contacted Dell Support directly to see if they could help sort it out, but it was more complicated than just updating the drivers. After going through their whole procedure and doing factory resets and driver updates, they worked out that a dodgy motherboard installation meant that Dell would have to send out a technician to fix it. I was leaving on a trip before that could be done, so I took it back to the store to exchange it as I'd just bought it and already it was faulty. The store was happy to do this and I left with another unit of the same model. After going through the whole setup process for the fourth time (including after each factory reset), I finally had a computer which started up properly and had no software issues or apparent hardware issues. Unfortunately this one just had a hardware issue that wasn't immediately apparent. It wasn't until I started using the laptop regularly that I noticed the hardware issue on this one too. Every time I put the laptop down without shutting it down or leaving it plugged in, it somehow loses all of its charge. It could be at 80% when I close it in the evening, but by the time I open it the next morning, it does one of two things. Either it starts up, then displays a battery warning before shutting itself down or it's just a brick, not responding at all. Once I plug it in, it's suddenly able to start up again and work as normal. Not only does it start up, but it also somehow finds all of the charge that it had lost while in sleep mode and I can then unplug it immediately and continue using it on battery power for quite some time. I've tried dealing with Dell Support, but there's only so much time I can spend trying to explain the issue each day. For all the time that I've spent on the phone to them installing drivers, providing remote access and typing out futile emails, I'm still no closer to having a functional laptop. I bought the 2-in-1 for the awesome portability, but what's the point if I can't take it away from a power point for longer than it takes to go into sleep mode? What I have is just a mediocre desktop. I can't stray too far from a power outlet, but I also get the crappy keyboard/trackpad setup and the less convenient screen position of a laptop. </rant> TL;DR: Inspiron is frustrating and shitty. Don't waste your money on one [link] [comments]

Wifi dead on old Asus. Workaround? Posted: 09 Aug 2019 12:36 PM PDT I got an older Asus from a family member who warned me upfront that there was something wrong internally with the wifi connection. As in, it's the hardware, not the software. Am I wrong, or is there something I can just plug into a usb port that picks up the local wifi as a work around for this? We have Google Fiber, would it work with that? Normally I'm all over tech issues, but for some reason (lack of sleep, allergies, too much pornhub, general stupidity) I'm drawing a blank here. Help? Surface Laptop 2 (i5-8250U) or Lenovo X1 Carbon (i7-7500U) Posted: 09 Aug 2019 11:53 AM PDT I'm looking for a new main laptop to do school work on. I don't really play PC games so the most demanding thing I would be doing on the laptop is streaming movies and such. I'm debating between the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 carbon ((20HR0057US) and the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 as I found them for about the same price online. I like everything about the Lenovo more than the surface but it only has a 7th Gen i7-7500u where the surface has an 8th gen i5. The i7 is dual core where the surface is quad core. Will there be a if difference in speed? They both have 8GB of RAM but the website says that the Lenovo has expandable memory Up to 16GB LPDDR3 but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Is the surface way faster since it's 8th Gen or would there be small differences I wouldn't really notice? [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Aug 2019 11:29 AM PDT I've been messing around with my laptop (ROG Strix Scar 3) to improve it's cooling. I ordered from xoticpc so I had them repaste it with ic diamond and better heat pads, additionally I undervolted 5%. I have temps sitting around 60-70°c with short gaming sessions and 70-80°c with prolonged gaming. I lifted the bottom of my laptop with notecards to try and improve air flow but I am wondering if a cooling pad may further assist with cooling especially since it also has an intake is on the bottom of the laptop. If anyone has any useful information on if cooling pads are effective or have a recommended pad I would appreciate it. [link] [comments]
I can't choose, what problems do they have? Posted: 09 Aug 2019 11:17 AM PDT I'm currently having trouble choosing a laptop for college. My issue is that I've found too many laptops that seem like a great choice. I'd appreciate some help choosing by being told of any issues these laptops have and which seems like the best deal.

How much can I sell my laptop for? Posted: 09 Aug 2019 09:17 AM PDT I hope I'm posting this at the right place... I bought a laptop 2-3 years ago, and now I want to sell it. I couldn't find anyone selling the exact same model though, I don't remember how much I bought it for (I think about 800$ to 1200$, but that's a big range), and I'm bad with prices, so I'm not sure how much I should ask for it. It's a gray Acer Aspire E5, I think an Aspire E5-473G, running Windows 10. It has an i7-5500U quad-core, an Nvidia 920M and 16 GB RAM. In great condition, although slightly slower than it used to be. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Aug 2019 08:43 AM PDT * **Total budget and country of purchase:** <=$600 AUD ($400 USD), Australia * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** I would like a decent battery life, so that I'm not tied to a wall but would also like decent specs. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** I don't really care about thinness but I would like manageable weight, ~2kgs (4.5lbs) * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 14"-15.6" * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? I'd also like the ability to upgrade the memory and hard disk space. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** I'm currently looking at this laptop but am looking for more suggestions. I'd mainly be using it for some programming and maybe VM work but I also would like to be able to remote into my much quicker desktop. [link] [comments]
(Y740)(RTX 2070Q Based laptop)Am I super lucky or was it never as bad as they say Posted: 09 Aug 2019 08:37 AM PDT Hey yall. So I downgraded from the beast 2080ti based pc to a laptop because I work alot outside. Obviously I also game pretty much alot tho so I wanted a decent mid/high end laptop. I researched the internet for days over the subject of max q gpus on laptops and well, everybody said max q cards are WAY WAY WAY worse than the full rtx. so I went to get a y740 with a full rtx, but heres the catch. On the company's store website where i bought my laptop(im not from the US) they had listed many different models, and for each model they gave the specs "from the official manufacturer" I guess. So it was easy to see which had max q and which hadn't, so I chose the one without. Surprise surprise, I turn on my pc, check all my driver etc.. Boom, I own an rtx 2070 WITH MAX Q based laptop. the company fu**** up. Oh man I was FURIOUS!!!!! I was going to go nuts on the store but I still checked my performance with this "shitty" gpu and man its actually super fast for what I expected ! I run pubg at 1080 highest settings at constant 120-160 fps in hot zones(except the super few drops that i still had with 2080 ti to 80-90 for brief moments since its still pubg), apex ~110 and for now thats the 2 games i tested. Then I even managed to overclock it and no problems at all. So should I still go to the store and return it or should I just keep it? [link] [comments]

[Hardware] Extreme Battery Degradation Posted: 09 Aug 2019 08:07 AM PDT I've got a Lenovo Thinkpad of a couple years old, the battery started to be worn out so I bought a new one. Except, it degraded by 20% the first day and degraded further to 70% of supposed capacity within a week. I booted up battery diagnostic and sure enough, it was reported as being in 'bad condition'. I figured it was faulty, so I returned it with the warranty and got a new one. The same thing happened. Thrice. I'm now on the fourth battery (3 months old) and I'm at 46% of original capacity; 26mAh down from 56. I always charge my battery up to 80% and down to 20-30%, so I doubt I'm doing something wrong there. I did calibrate each battery, but only after they had already been reported in bad condition. What could be the cause or causes of this? [link] [comments]
HP ENVY x360 15t broken out of the box and HP is of no help... Posted: 09 Aug 2019 07:13 AM PDT I've made a horrible mistake of buying an HP laptop which I'll never do again. I needed a new laptop for school and light work. I built my laptop on HP's website with amazing specs and had it shipped out to me. Initial impression was great. It was slim, looked very modern, and performed lightning fast. After a few weeks, I noticed the hinges could barely support the convertible screen anymore. If you closed it halfway, it would just fall closed. If you placed the laptop on a table with a little force, the screen would fly open and be laying flat. Next, the trackpad (which I never use) broke. Left click was extremely difficult to press and made a loud snapping noise which would sometimes even get stuck. The right click was fine though. Suddenly my battery started lasting 2 hours max with only a few tabs open and no programs running in the background. When I used the laptop while plugged in, the fan would run like a freight train. I sent my laptop to an HP repair center where they replaced the hinges, trackpad, battery and did some minor software updates. I recieved my laptop back DIRTY with a new trackpad installed incorrectly. This new trackpad was so loose, if you just gently put your finger on it to tap select, the the trackpad would move around and make a clicking sound. You could actually move the trackpad left and right with a lot of give. I called HP up where they apologized and said it should have never gotten through inspection like that and asked for it back. At this point I just asked for a refund. I'd rather buy a different brand laptop and send this one back. I received a call back from India pleading that I let the repair center try again and if it comes back broken again they'll send me a replacement laptop which I don't want. Is there any way to escalate this to just getting a refund for this broken pos? If I can get a refund, I was looking into getting this Asus Zenbook. Feedback is appreciated if you own one of these! https://www.costco.com/ASUS-ZenBook-UX533FD--Laptop---Intel-Core-i7---GeForce-GTX-1050.product.100454599.html [link] [comments]
Recommendation for Multipurpose laptop with several caveats Posted: 08 Aug 2019 11:10 PM PDT I'm in a wierd catch-22 situation where I can't buy the laptop I wanted to buy. I filled the suggestion form below but I believe in my case it's better to elaborate a little more I was planning to buy a new midrange Dell XPS 15 on a last minute trip to the US next week, but unfortunately it isn't in stock in time to arrive by the time I leave. I checked the outlet page and it was the same for the older XPS 15. To keep this as direct as possible, I'll state out my musts, and if anyone is interested on why, I'll spell it out below. - Good 15 inch FHD display, with good color and screen to body ratio. This will be my secondary display most of the time, except when traveling, when it will be my primary. -Be able to drive a 4k display at 60HZ. SUPER IMPORTANT, I'll have a 32 inch 4k monitor as my primary display on non graphics intensive things most of the time, and need it to have a good refresh rate. -Have a decent video card to do video editing (1080p with a little 4k), ocasionally some gaming, and some photogrammetry use (processor is also important for this). As a reference, I want to play The Witcher 3 on near highest settings, and some other games at decent settings. I play TW3 on my maxed out 2014 iMac but on medium and mediocre fps. -Have a good build quality. I'll be traveling with it somewhat often so it needs to be solid. Also, I've gotten used to Apple's build quality and wouldn't like to take a step back Now, my options:
$1,200 to $1,500, somewhat flexible, less is obviously better
Important, it needs to be as portable as possible for a 15 inch, but balancing for decent performance and durability
Some video editing, 1080p mixed with 4k on Premiere. Sometimes use AfterEffects for small clips.
I do some light gaming, primarily The Witcher 3 and Starcraft 2, but would like to maybe play the ocassional newer game on reasonable settings
A good screen is very important for me, and also build quality. I will be using an external mouse and keyboard normally
I'm coming off of Mac so I've gotten used to good build qualities and good displays. This will be a do it all computer, it doesn't have to be the best, but I'm looking for decent bang for money. The work-related uses will be primarily productivity based and not too system intensive, however I do need on occasion to edit 1080p with some 4k footage on Premiere and a little After Effects. I also want to play games sometimes and for the computer to be future proof enough that new games can be playable (maybe not on the best graphics, but at least dabble a little in it). Thank you for your time, I know this is a huge post. Cheers! [link] [comments] |
