Computer refuses to stay shut down.

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 08:09 PM PDT

I went to install a new SSD and after having trouble getting it to work probably I finally got it sorted out. But that night I tried to fully shut down my computer but it booted right back up. I tried a clean install of windows but it didn't fix the issue. No matter what I try it won't stay shut down. Does anyone have a clue what's going on or anything to try? Anything helps. Thanks🙏🏼!

Updating Graphics Drivers has lowered FPS

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 09:13 PM PDT

this is essentially what the title says, recently I had some issues with changing resolutions so I updated my graphics drivers, which has fixed my issue but now I am consistently getting frame drops (in csgo) from 200 -> <100.

    any advice would be appreciated.

edit: i found out one of my settings was changed in csgo, (multicore usage), as it was set on disabled. enabling fixed my fps. ty for all the tips!

edit2: fps drops occur still, but my max fps goes towards 300 now. advice is still needed :)))

why does “now streaming with your data plan” appear on my screen for amazon?

I'm watching a show on amazon prime and every once in a while "now streaming with your data plan" appears on the screen, as if I didn't know that I paid for the plan. Do they just want to remind people of that?

AM4 bracket/backplate replacement with stock cooler

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 08:58 PM PDT

Recently I bought a Gigabyte B450M DS3H (used, off Amazon), and a Ryzen 3 2200G, which came with the AMD stock cooler, but the mobo didn't come with the backplate that the fan screws into. I bought this replacement one, but the screws on the cooler aren't long enough to screw into it unless you push down the spring-loaded screws, which puts way too much tension on it, so much that it bends the motherboard. Am I doing something wrong, am I getting the wrong part, do I need a metal bracket or something so that it doesn't bend? I contacted Gigabyte and they want $12 + I assume a lot of money for shipping, and I'd like to see if I could get one anywhere cheaper or sooner. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

New build AMD Ryzen 5 3600 - Is it problem or it's normal (Global question)

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 02:29 AM PDT

    Hello reddit community.

    I just build new PC

    Part Brand and specs From...
Motherboard Aorus x570 Elite From Newegg
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 From Amazon
CPU Cooler Deepcool Fryzen TR From Amazon
GPU Geforce GTX 1070 Strix OC From local PC store
RAM CORSAIR Vengeance RGB PRO 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3000MHz From Amazon
HDD Seagate BarraCuda 1TB Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM 64MB Cache From local PC store
SDD Samsung 970 EVO Plus Series - 250GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD From Amazon
Case Deepcool EARLKASE RGB V2 From local PC store
Case Coolers Pack of 3 Aigo Halo LED Ring Fan 120mm From Amazon
Power Supply Deepcool N650 W From local PC store

I have finished building my custom PC but I have the following issue.

When the processor works on AMD Ryzen balanced or high performance mode, clock reaches maximum 4.2 MHz and CPU cooler starts working too hard despite the CPU usage (3-10% load and 40-50c). I have max 110 fps while playing PUBG on ultra settings, temperature reaches max 50-60c but cooler does the same thing (even while scrolling though facebook).

Also it is quite "loud" on 1500-2000 rpm.

I tried changing plan on power saver that reduced clock down to 2.2 MHz and cooler to 1300 rpm. Also temps reduced to 35-38c and cooler became quiet.

    Here is screens:

Is it something that I need to be worried about?

HELP! Minecraft is not working on my PC!!

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 09:54 PM PDT

Hey, so as soon as I open minecraft off the launcher the rest of my PC slows down(CPU and GPU usage hit 99-100%). I've never had this happen before and I don't expect any hardware limitations (i7-9700k | 2080 RTX | 16GB RAM) and it's never ran like this before. Also, I dont have any shaders on and only one resource pack installed. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Java and uninstalled and reinstalled minecraft but nothing has changed. Any suggestions on what to try next? (P.S. Other games still work perfectly fine, just minecraft is acting up) (P.P.S. The App causing the high CPU and GPU usage is "Java platform (SE) binary" so i figured reinstalling java would fix this)

Network section lists multiple unknown computers

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 11:58 PM PDT

The "Network" section of Windows Explorer lists many computers that simply aren't connected to my network. I'm very confused and honestly have no idea what's going on with it.

My network has literally one PC and my phone connected, that's all. I'm halfway through a degree in this exact subject and yet I've still no clue what I'm doing :c

If anyone can help (Or tell me if this is totally normal), that'd be great.

    https://imgur.com/a/XgPAGJZ

Edit: just wanna mention I've done a Malwarebytes scan and that came up full negative so I'm left clueless

Edit: also wanna specify that my router's own interface lists no other devices connected, just my own 2.

EDIT: Thanks for all your help but I actually figured it out myself. For some stupid bloody reason, my ISP, Telstra, has every customer's router broadcast a second network for others to connect to, to use their paid network.

I also discovered why I have such an unstable connection! Same fucking reason. What a horrible idea. I'll keep the post up so others might stumble across it.

Audio problem when plugged in the 3.5mm jack

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 07:30 PM PDT

So, I just bought a G Pro Headset, and got it connected through the 3.5mm jack. The problem is, that when I start playing CS or any game and Im not moving or making any sound myself, the audio seems to be like covered by a box. Same happens when Im watching Youtube videos and on teamspeak. I also had this problem with my previous headset (HyperX Stinger) on the first days of use. Then I did something and went away, but im not sure what I did. Anything that can help?

Please help! Came home to this, from what I researched seems to be an error with a Windows Update/Boot?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 08:51 PM PDT

Not super experienced with computers, but I came home to my computer displaying a screen stating "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Instert Boot Media in Selected Boot devices and press a key".

I tried pressing any key, but it continued to repeat. (Shown in the image)

I restarted the CPU, and it took me to the log-in screen, however I noticed that it showed there was no internet and that there was just a blank blue background, where usually its a picture of landscapes.

Tried to enter my password, and I get stuck at "Welcome" with the loading circle.

Looked online, which told me to try and boot in safe mode. So I tried to boot it into safe mode but it gives me, "There was a problem, Restart your PC to try again, Error Code 80070013". (Shown in images). Checked online, it stated that this error was due to a conflict with a Windows Update.

Also saw some forums talking about "BIOS boot order" trying to do networking first? I was able to get into the BIOS menu and checked the order, which showed it had networking as the last option.

Not really sure what to do next. Hoping that I didn't just end up losing all my data some how. Please help!

Why is Edge browser so much faster than chrome?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 12:52 AM PDT

I don't know why but for some reason chrome download speeds are slower than edge. When I watch a video on chrome it buffers and gets set to a low resolution but on Edge it doesn't buffer and gets set to a high resolution. Is there any way to fix this as I don't like edge.

Is it alright for the underside of my laptop to run so hot?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 12:23 AM PDT

My laptops underside is getting hot, like really hot, but I check the temperatures and the cpu hovers around 70-80 under heavy load and 40-50 idle. Is it normal for laptops to get hot on the underside?

    Computer won’t start at all

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 12:22 AM PDT

My computer just decided to stop turning on at all.

On Tuesday it worked fine but it downloaded the latest update to Windows.

On Wednesday I turned it on and it failed the update process for windows. It had a hard time staying on and any time I tried to start an intensive program (steam game, chrome, league) it would reboot and then struggle to load windows without crashing.

On Thursday it wouldn't turn on at all. The fans will all spin for a half second and then the whole system shuts off.

My surge protector is working, other things that are plugged in still work (laptop, speakers, lamp). I tried using a different outlet and that didn't work.

I tried removing each ram stick and booting and that didn't work.

My suspicion is that the pcu is toast but I don't have a known good one to test with. I ordered a pcu tester to check it out. That should arrive this weekend. There isn't a smell of burning when I open the case.

If it's not the pcu what could cause a crash of this type? If it is the pcu what could cause this?

Is it time for a new pc?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 08:11 PM PDT

So i got my gaiming pc in december 2015. However, 2 years ago, the pc suddenly broke and the solution was to reinstall windows. For the past year, my pc has been bluescreening regularly. For the past couple weeks, it has failed to startup many times and when under stress, like playing a game, will just shut down or bluescreen. I have reset it, updated drivers, done as much as possible. But at this point, i think it might be time to replace?

Edit: it also produces a smell when under load. And yes, others have complained about the smell as well. Also, my room gets significantly hotter when the pc is on compared to other rooms and accounting for weather.

Edit 2: Problem 2: If computer is off for a long enough period of time, turning it on again will produce the windows logo and then a black screen. Requires me to turn it off and turn it back on again for it to work. Problem 3: Computer will just turn off in the middle of a task if it has been under stress, it wont speed up the fans to account for temperature. Problem 4: Speeding up the fans or setting a limit to the temperature via bios will cause it to still crash. Clock watchdog hasnt appeared in a couple days, maybe its finally gone but other problems are new and exist.

Ryzen 3900X instant thermal limit reached on all core loads... should I try to RMA?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 12:59 AM PDT

    System Configuration:

    Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
    Memory: 32GB DDR4-3200 G.Skill (2x16GB CL14)
    GPU: EVGA 2080 XC Hybrid
OS: Windows 10 x64 (Latest Updates)
BIOS: F5g (AGESA 1.0.0.3ABB) with latest Chipset drivers as of 8/2/2019 @ time of posting

Idle temperatures seem reasonable for what most people are reporting for this CPU (45-60C). But, any time I put any benchmark or significant load on all cores (encoding video, etc), the temperature of the CPU instantly spikes to 95C (thermal limit, as I understand it) and immediately begins downclocking to manage heat. It usually settles in around 3.4GHz at 95C after a couple of minutes. This seems pretty extreme of a swing for this CPU.

I've tried 3 different coolers now, but with each one, it exhibits the same load behavior; the only real difference is the idle temperatures. For all 3 coolers, I used Kryonaut paste. First, I used a Kraken X62 aio cooler and idle was about 60C with an instant spike to 95C on any significant load. I thought maybe it wasn't making good contact with the IHS or it might just be defective somehow. Next, I got the new EVGA 360mm aio that just came out; this improved the idle temps to around 45C, but the same behavior on all core loads. I didn't think two different coolers would be defective, but just to be sure, I tried the stock cooler that came with the CPU and saw the same behavior on all core loads.

I have been overclocking CPUs for over 20 years now and have never seen this instant of a swing on temperatures, especially on liquid cooling. Most reviews I've seen on Youtube show temperatures under constant load of 70-80C after 10 minutes. I get that these new chips run a little hotter than most, but this seems more like there's some issue with the TIM under the IHS. Should I try to RMA the chip with AMD or are other people seeing this behavior as well?

    New PC won't turn on.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 12:41 AM PDT

So I put together a build and since my SSD hasn't arrived yet I just tried to turn PC on but it failed. Fans try to start spinning but immediately fail. I have EZ debug lights on mobo. They blink once very fast in given order: Boot - vga - dram - cpu and after CPU LED nothing happens. PSU is working correctly, tested with voltage meter. I tried without GPU, RAM in different slots, without RAM. Always the same result. I also tested it when CPU power wasn't plugged and then fans started and kept spinning but CPU light stayed on. Now when I added GPU while CPU power was still removed the system won't start. I've also checked power cables and everything is correctly plugged.

    Mobo: MSI B450 A-pro CPU: Ryzen 5 2600x RAM: G.SKILL Aegis 16GB 3000MHz CL16 DDR4 DIMM KIT OF 2 F4-3000C16D-16GISB

Nintendo switch WiFi connection broken in a really weird way

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 03:52 AM PDT

My switch stopped connecting to my home WiFi a few months ago. It was working perfectly fine on every other network it connected to. But over the past week I've figured out it's connection. Tried it at 20:58: can connect to network device, but not the internet. Tried at 21:01: perfect connection. This continues until 23:01, at which point it disconnects. This has happened every day for the past week, and I have absolutely no idea why, or how to fix it (or if a fix is even possible). Any tips at all would be appreciated.

2 hardrives, 2 seperate OS, 1 tower (not at the same time) is this possible?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 03:50 AM PDT

Hi, I didn't know how to word the subject line but what happened is my gf computer died on her however the hardrives are fine, we share a place and don't really need to be on the computer at the same time so my question is...

is there a way to plug her hardrive into my tower and make my hardrive ignore it (so it doesn't see it as a second HD) and then use her HD as her own computer somehow? like when she needs the computer she would boot it into her HD and it wouldn't see my HD etc.

I googled a lot before i asked and all I can find are dual booting different OS on one pc etc, none really answer my question on if this is possible or how to go about doing it.

    Thanks for any help.

Is there anything I can do please?
