Help me choose between the HP Spectre x360 13" and the Lenovo Yoga c930 14" Posted: 02 Jul 2019 06:43 PM PDT Hi! I'm retiring an old MacBook Pro and an old Samsung Tablet and have decided to venture into the world of 2 in 1 machines so I can have a bit of both. I've read a lot of reviews and for my use (streaming, surfing, reading, amateur audio recording, Office work, etc) these seem like the best of the bunch. I'm in the US and cost is not a major concern, thankfully. I am having a hard time deciding between the two. Any and all opinions would be very helpful. I'm firmly on the fence. [link] [comments] |
Looking for a thin and light with good battery to dock with an eGPU Posted: 03 Jul 2019 12:05 AM PDT
USA, $1500 (flexible, though. trying to do some sort of financing deal for around $100 a month)
I am a game developer/programmer and gamer, but I am planning on getting an eGPU, so I would rather not have a GPU in the laptop to maximize battery life. Also recent U-series i7 processor should be good for my needs
But if there exists a laptop that's thin, gets 8+ hours of battery, has a gtx 1650, and thunderbolt 3, point me there haha [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jul 2019 01:15 AM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: $1200 USD, USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Good battery life and best specs for the money How important is weight and thinness to you? I prefer light and thin since I'll be carrying it a lot, but I know I probably won't get under 5 lbs. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10 Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I'll be using Visual Studio Code and other programming software, possibly some video editing, and some light gaming If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? GTA V is the most demanding game I'll play, 100 fps on medium or higher is the goal. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touch-screen)? 500GB+ SSD, 120Hz+ screen, 16GB RAM, backlit keyboard all required. If I can get a hard drive of any capacity in addition to the SSD it'd be a huge bonus. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. So far I've found the Lenovo LEGION Y545 and 2019 ASUS ROG G531GT as possible matches. What do you think of those two and are there any other fits? [link] [comments] |
Laptop for work/studies/digital art Posted: 03 Jul 2019 03:05 AM PDT I'm planning to move to Japan for 1-2 years and won't bring my desktop, so I need a laptop that can do a bit of everything. I'm primarily a writer, but also dip into digital art and video editing on the regular. Total budget and country of purchase: $1100-$1700, buying in Norway Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specs for the money How important is weight and thinness to you? I'd like something I can carry around. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I use Photoshop regularly with a drawing tablet Premiere occasionally Casual gamer If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I play The Sims 4 a lot + Hearthstone, Warframe, and some visual novels. Don't need to play on highest settings. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touch-screen)? N/A Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I like gaming, but am willing to drop them for something portable. The guy at the electronics store recommended me Huawei Matebook 13, which I thought was a bit odd as it only has 8 GB. I might have misunderstood but I thought 16GB is recommended for Photoshop and Premiere? My friend got an Asus ZenBook last year that she uses for light gaming and university studies, I guess I'm looking for something similar. [link] [comments] |

I would prefer a good keyboard for gaming. All-around-durability is welcomed , as i will be using this for the next 5 years. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I think that the best candidates for my need are : Acer Predator Helios 300 (Seems very powerful but i need more advice on durability and how hot/loud it is) Dell XPS 15 (The GPU seems weak but overall fits my criteria) Lenovo Yoga 720 (I don't need the 2-in-1 form factor and the touch screen, also weak GPU) MSI GP73 (Over my budget but if it's really worth i can extend my budget by 100-200$) [link] [comments] |

Buying a laptop in another country warranty Posted: 03 Jul 2019 12:44 AM PDT
Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. a 1050 graphics and some mid specs for the price* How important is weight and thinness to you? I don't mind * Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. windows 10 * Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. maybe around 15''* Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. some programming. And some light CAD. Gta 5, apex, sekiro, just cause 3, csgo and more * If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? as long as its playable around 50+ even at ultra low I don't mind as long as its a decent frame rate * Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? just the usual stuff* Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I am from the Philippines and i know some people in Singapore and i was planning to buy a laptop and saw the prices and specs it was better and cheaper in Singapore. So i was just wondering i am planing to buy an acer nitro 5 or a asus counterpart. Will the warranty be applicable outside the country where it was bought . And as long as i am here any suggestions for a cheap gaming laptop not more than 750 Thanks for the help* [link] [comments] |
Please help me, it's been 2 weeks without a laptop Posted: 02 Jul 2019 10:29 PM PDT Need laptop for school that has the following: Intel Core i7 Processor 16 GB Ram 512 SSD It would be nice if it was: 2 in 1 and had a 15-16 inch screen. Also these are my school recommendations so I would like to know if a 512 SSD has an advantage over a 1 TB. Or if SSD give some special advantage over HDD. Are there any that are less than 900 after tax. Also that have protection plans as well that arent too expensive [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jul 2019 04:02 AM PDT Mainly used for school and occasional movie streaming. Which would be the better option? Any other laptop recommended for the budget of the Yoga S730? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Too much choice, in need of suggestions! Posted: 02 Jul 2019 11:39 PM PDT * **Total budget and country of purchase:** I'm in the UK and my budget is flexible. I'd say I'm looking at the £700/800 range, although for the right machine I could probably do anything up to around £1200 * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** Really not fussed about form factor, 2-in-1's have always seemed a bit gimmicky to me but I've never owned or used one so I'm open to suggestions. Battery life isn't a major issue as I'll mostly be using the laptop at home, although it's nice not being tethered to a power outlet! Ideally I'd like a high spec - not for practical use (I don't do any picture or video editing etc, but I do plenty of word processing and media viewing and also some light gaming) but, if I'm being totally honest, I'm willing to pay for a good spec in order to have a nice user experience (no slowdown, no lagging when scrolling, fast loading times, smooth and easy video watching etc). Rather arbitrarily I've been looking at 8GB RAM and an i5 8th gen (or equivalent) as a minimum. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Weight not an issue, although the thinner the better (purely from an aesthetic point of view). * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Ideally Windows 10, although no problem using MacOS either. * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** N/A * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** Some light gaming (Football Manager and other such games, I have a One X for the gaming so doesn't need to run the latest FPS's or anything!) * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** Medium settings for any game would be fine, FPS not a huge concern. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** I think this is probably my most important category: some background...in 2012 when I finished university and got a job I still lived with my parents, so was absolutely swimming in cash. With my first wage I went out and bought a Macbook Pro Retina. It's served me well for the last 7 years but is sadly nearing the end (the battery has been spent, speakers are busted and some pixels beginning to die in the screen). Say what you like about Apple (and I know not everyone is a fan) but their design and build quality is excellent - I'm basically looking for an equivalent. I like the luxury of the solid aluminium chassis and the premium feel of the keyboard and trackpad. I also want an equivalent of the retina display, whether that's a high quality FHD or a 4K display. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** Basically, I'm looking for a reasonably powered laptop with a glorious display and a premium build. Good sound, great picture, solid and premium feel and a nice, smooth user experience are my main priorities, although the bigger the spec, the better (I've arbitrarily decided that 8GB RAM and an i5 or equivalent are the minimum requirements!). I've spent a lot of time looking and seem to settle on a different laptop each time - there's just too much choice, especially for somebody not overly tech savvy. Dell XPS 13, Huawei Matebook 13 and Lenovo Ideapad 720s are three examples of laptops I've looked at in length. Hope I've formatted this correctly and thanks in advance for any suggestions!
