    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

Can we talk about chairs, please? My butt needs advice.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 09:36 AM PDT

Hey, I know that this is a frequent topic, so I apologize in case I am not allowed to post this or if I'm in the wrong subreddit.

I'm personally looking for a new chair, and so are several friends of mine, but none of us really know where to start, and imagine that a lot of people are in a similar situation. So I'm posting this not only for my own butt. I hope it may help others as well.

Now, while I have often seen this being discussed, I still haven't managed to get a clear overview when it comes to chairs. Most discussions on chairs mainly seem to conclude that "gamer chairs are bad, so you should get a Herman Miller Aeron". This isn't very helpful though, and ideally what I am looking for would be a list of recommended chairs to look into, I guess.

I know that you can't just name a chair that fits everybody. They can't simply be benchmarked like a graphics card, since what is the right chair depends on the person it is meant for. Therefore, a chair should also be tested before buying it. But is it not possible to maybe make a list of like 10 recommended chairs to look into? Maybe a few different chairs for a couple of different price ranges or body types?

I understand that something like a Herman Miller Aeron would be ideal, but that's simply out of range for a lot of people. In my case, I'm a college student in Europe. I don't have the money for such a chair, and I don't have the means to go looking for and pick up a used one either. I still think that both my butt and especially my back deserve something reasonable, however.

Are there any recommendable chairs in a reasonable price range that are easily accessible at either stores like Ikea (e.g. widely available outside North America), or online (this leads back to actually testing chairs, I know), which won't make me need an exo-skeleton by the time I hit 30?

By reasonably priced I mean something that costs up to 300€ maybe. For this price range I have seen the Ikea Markus (or what seems to be an updated version, the Ikea Järvfjället) being mentioned a couple of times, but overall I would say that it has mixed opinions, so I really don't know what to think.

I would love to get a discussion started, resulting in a couple of nice suggestions, but maybe that is too much to ask. Maybe somebody can simply give some tips on what actually to look out for in a chair? I don't really know how to tell if a chair is good for my back or not. Anyway, both my butt and my back are thankful for any suggestions.

There is a worse feeling than when your delivery driver passes your stop. I'm so done with trying to build this PC. Amazon delivery problems for days and then scammed.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 09:33 AM PDT

So my build hasn't been cutting it recently, since I can't even edit 1080p 60fps videos anymore. So I dug into the savings and tried to build an upgrade. I bought all my parts off of Amazon for convenience and what I got was day after day of frustration.

    1. Order items with Prime delivery on 21 May
    2. Was marked delivered on 23 May as "delivered to neighbour White Bin", "signed by: White Bin"
    3. Find one package (PSU) in the white bin, while 3 other items are missing.
    4. Call customer service, they agree to give me a replacement on 26 May by 9PM
    5. Miss one delivery at noon on 26 May (which was a Sunday).
    6. Find differing information on my order status: it said both "Will be delivered today by 9pm" and "will retry tomorrow"
    7. Just to make sure I call customer service, they tell me there will be no second delivery on 26 May.
    8. Delivery tracker pops up at 5pm 26 May, but delivery driver goes past my address and heads miles south.
    9. At around 9pm the tracker turns off but it said "Will still be delivered today"
    10. 10:30pm it says delivered to door 16 to neighbour Vlad. There is no number 16 on this street and there is no neighbour named Vlad.
    11. Call customer service, they start being suspicious but after checking with the delivery tracker, they realised they had delivered the items to an address 10 miles away from my place. Get another replacement delivery, this time to an Amazon locker.
    12. Items are picked up on 28 May with no issues.
    13. I decided to build my PC today, 2 June.
    14. Open up my RAM to find this: https://i.imgur.com/uWpWESK.jpg

Not only did I receive the "wrong item" (I ordered 3200MHz not 3000MHz), I had been scammed as they replaced the contents with a block of wood. A BLOCK of WOOD. 15. Called customer service, they are suspicious again. I try to make my point by tapping the wood on my table to emphasize that I'm telling the truth. 16. They check if they can get me ANOTHER replacement, but then they said they ran out of stock. 17. Now I'm getting a refund. 18. Won't be able to build the pc because I don't have money until the refund.

It's been a fun couple of weeks. Still no new PC, still unable to work on my video projects.

Life hasn't been great either so I was really looking forward to this.

https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/17374742#DRIVE As you can see, my SSD is extremely slow and i have no idea as to why that is. I have had this SSD for about a year now I think, but I don't think that should be the cause of this.

Is having that single fan on it going to be not enough or will it keep it cool? (This is with an i5 9600k) Additionally will the i5 9600k throttle my Radeon RX VEGA 64 Nitro+ or can it handle it.

Should I wait for the release of the new AMD cpu’s before I build a new pc?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 11:24 AM PDT

I don't plan on buying the flag ship cpu's but I'm assuming in terms of cost the later series will drop in price when the new flight of cpu's are released. Also the new series didn't seem to bad in price vs performance. Or has the price already dropped and this is a good time to buy already? Thank you for your help and this forum has helped.

    RAM causing blue screen?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 03:29 AM PDT

    Hi Everyone

I recently upgraded my PC and have been struggling lately with BSOD. There are a couple of messages with the screen that I get:

    1. REFERENCE_BY_POINTER
    2. DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    3. SYSTEM_PTE_MISUSE

I got all of these errors in 1 day. After this I did a quick format of windows and the same happened again. (I initially thought it was software related)

    Here is my Build

    CPU: Ryzen 2600x

    MOBO: ASROCKB450 Pro4 https://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/B450%20Pro4/index.asp

    RAM: https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-2400c15d-16gvb

    GTX 1060 6GB

My thinking is that it is the ram. When i first installed the ram it was running at 2133, so changed the profile (I think XMP profile 2.1) on the mobo to 2400. And it was running fine and only recently started giving me issues.

I have no experience with overclocking so I changed the ram speed back to 2133 and so far no blue screen (Changed speed back 1 hour ago).

Now my question is: if I change the ram speed to 2400 - should i adjust the voltage? Is the ram even the issue here? Maybe the Mobo is not compatible with the relevant ram?

    Please help. Thanks in advance.

    BIOS Update Attempt Brick Help

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 02:48 PM PDT

Hi all, so I successfully got my computer running but while playing in the BIOS I made the mistake of using the "Update BIOS" option, not knowing that BIOS isn't like software and that updating it can brick you.

I'm running an ASUS ROG STRIX B350-F Gaming, with a Ryzen 2700x CPU (so no integrated graphics). After the download of the newest BIOS version succeeded, the tool prompted me to restart - and from then on I could no longer boot.

I also appear to be failing to POST, with the RAM light activating. mobo headers work fine; all fans spin, all RGB lights up, and my water cooling pump... seems to be trying to start? It makes weird noises though lol.

So some googling directed me to try using the ASUS CrashFree BIOS recovery, however I lack an optical drive so I've been trying to get it to run from USB. All I did was copy the entire DVD that comes with the mobo to a USB drive, but as I have no display capabilities right now, I have no way to know if anything is happening when I boot with the USB in.

CMOS/battery resetting did nothing, as it's not a problem with OC settings; I simply don't have a BIOS version that will work right now. Is there something I'm doing wrong? The USB is FAT32. The yellow POST light made me think I should disconnect the RAM before trying again - can the BIOS recovery run if the RAM isn't plugged in?

Basically, is there any possible way for me to recover a working BIOS with software, or do I need to RMA and get a new mobo?

    Help! More than 90ºC (197ºF) while playing (I7-8700 non-k)

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 02:30 PM PDT

Hello guys! Yesterday, after over a month of buying components, I've built my new PC. I'm using the stock cooler (I'm waiting for my Cryorig H7) with the I7-8700 (non-k).

Temps while playing CS:Go (less than 10 minutes): https://imgur.com/a/0rvgm87

    Here's the clock: https://i.imgur.com/o1iEpTS.png

On a side note, here's winter, and my ambient temp might be between 18 to 22ºC (64F - 71F)

Is this normal? Should I be worried?

My GPU max temp is 66ºC (150ºF) and if I touch the case is not even warm, Idk if it just bad temp readings

    Edit: Here's my specs btw

    - Motherboard: MSI Z370 PC PRO

    - CPU: I7-8700 (non-k)

    - RAM: 8x2 Corsair Vengeance RGB 3200 Mhz

    - GPU: GTX 1050 TI

    - Case: NZXT S340 Elite

    - PSU: Seasonic SSR-750PX

CPU Temperatures Stay High After Delidding

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 01:15 PM PDT

So for background, I was playing Black Ops 4 when the game started consistently crashing after around 30 minutes of play. I thought this was an error with the game files so I repaired them a few times. After a couple of days, my computer crashed while I was playing and gave an error for CPU Over Temp on reboot. After I began monitoring temps, I noticed my computer was idling around 50-55C and hitting 80-85C while playing BO4.

First thing I did was re-apply thermal paste with Arctic Silver MX-4, which didn't really change anything so I undervolted my CPU to 1.15V at 3.8GHz in BIOS with Advanced Power Settings to limit CPU usage to 90% (3.4 GHz effective). This brought my temps down a little to about 45C on idle and 70-75C on load.

Since re-applying thermal paste didn't really change much, I thought there might be an issue with the thermal paste from a previous delid (CPU was bought delidded 2.5 years ago from another redditor who has not been active in over a year). I delidded with a Rockit 88 tool and applied TG Conductonaut on the die and TG Kryonaut between the IHS and heatsink. I applied light super glue on the four corners and it seemed to have no effect.

I thought I may have botched the delidding so I bought a copper IHS from Rockit since the original IHS had a little nick on the top and what seemed like light corrosion where it previously made contact with the die (was already like that when I did my first delidding). I removed the super glue with acetone and cotton Q-tips and applied a bit more Conductonaut on the die and bottom of the IHS this time thinking I may have not put enough for proper contact the first time. I did not super glue the corners this time and used Kryonaut between the IHS and heatsink. Still no improvement.

TL;DR: CPU temps running 45-50C on idle and 70-75C on load after two delidding attempts. CPU was previously delidded and running fine for 2.5 years. Was playing BO4 when it began showing issues.

So I'm asking here to try and figure out what I might have done wrong. Any advice would be appreciated. The CPU is currently undervolted to 1.1V. Here is my build:

    List Component
    CPU i7-6700K bought here
    CPU Cooler Thermolab LP53
    Motherboard ASUS Z170I Pro Gaming
    Case Silverstone RVZ02-B
    RAM Galax HOF 3200MHz CL14
    nVME Samsung 960 EVO 500GB
GPU EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3
    PSU Corsair SF600 Gold

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the advice! Seems like the issue may be my case and cooler. If anyone else has advice, I'd still love to listen though!

Help choosing a good oldish graphics card

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 03:23 PM PDT

Hi all, so I've had a prebuilt for quite some time now (it was a gift) and I've been looking for a way to upgrade it since it's just about not good enough for me to play some games I want, here are its parts:

    CPU: FX-8300

    GPU: HD 7770 1GB DDR5

    RAM: 12GB DDR3

PSU: 500W (not sure which kind)

I know all components are pretty old right now and that the CPU is less than ideal (heard a lot of bad things about FX processors) but judging from the requirements of the games I want to play the biggest hurdle to clear is the GPU (most games I want ask for at least 2GB GPUs, examples are Dark Souls 3 and Prey if that helps).

Seeing how the games I want are somewhat old as well I figured an older cheap 2GB GPU would do the trick, so far I've found the following options:

    Asus - HD 7850 2GB DDR5 (70-90$)

    Asus or Powercolor - HD 7870 2GB DDR5 (70-120$)

    Sapphire HD 7950 3GB DDR5 or R9 280 (90-120$) (apparently the r9 and hd 7950 are the same?)

    Gigabyte GTX 750ti 2GB DDR5 (75-90$)

    Gigabyte GTX 960 2GB DDR5 (120$)

    Gigabyte GT1030 2GB DDR5 (100$)

Are any of these good choices or is there any other card you would recommend? I just don't want to spend money on something that is too good for my system but these prices are so close that I cannot really gauge their quality, to me some seem to be just straight up better versions of others but their prices are nearly the same.

Consider I don't live in the US and these prices are some of the best I've found, I know there are newer budget models that could have better performance but they generally cost much more here (most of the prices I've shown are for used cards).

I also wanted to know if these changes would require me to change other components, as far as I know 500W would be enough for most of the GPUs I mentioned but I am a total noob so I don't know if there are other considerations I'm ignoring.

I really just want a small performance boost so I can play some of the games I mentioned in mid settings at a decent resolution without spending too much, a full replacement is not feasible for me with the prices in my country and I'm OK with not being able to keep up with modern games.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

CPU/GPU usage drops and SSD spikes to 100% (Kingston A400 2.5in SATA SSD 240GB)

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 03:31 AM PDT

I've ran into an issue where randomly the PC will completely seize up and freeze. I can't do anything when the freeze happens until it runs its course which is usually 5-10 seconds. It will happen spontaneously if I'm simply running YouTube or playing games which are very demanding such as Fortnite. Attached is a screenshot when the freeze occurred, what I noticed was my CPU drops from 30-50% instantly down to 5-10% and my C drive (SSD) will spike to 100%. I downloaded Open Hardware Monitor and all the temps were completely fine and I also checked the health of both my drives which are healthy at 100%. I'm starting to see that the Kingston model that I have has been reported for this exact issue where people will update the firmware via the Kingston SSD Manager although there is no updates detected. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here are the specs of the custom PC.

    CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 CPU @ 2.80GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
    RAM: Team T-Force Dark 3200MHz 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 Grey Black
    SSD: Kingston A400 2.5in SATA SSD 240GB

    Onboard audio or not?

    SATA SSD vs M.2

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 01:51 PM PDT

I recently built my first pc with a 1tb sata ssd and a 2tb hdd. I tried looking online for comparisons between sata and m.2 for ssd's but all I could really find were very vague articles explaining that "they're both fast"

Could anyone possibly give an insight to the true difference between the two? I love my current ssd because it is still worlds faster than what I'm used to but I'm just curious for any future possible modifications.

    Thanks!
