Solid Laptop for college suggestions Posted: 02 Jun 2019 10:13 AM PDT Hello, I'm trying to figure out a laptop that would be good for a couple years at college. My college recommends a pretty beefy computer minus the graphics card. The Dell X15 looks pretty good, but is a little out of my budget. Something similar to that and a little cheaper would be perfect.

Switching from 2011 Macbook pro to PC suggestions? Posted: 02 Jun 2019 12:02 PM PDT Hi all, I have a late 2011 mbp that I absolutely love. I've replaced the battery, upgraded the ram to 16gb, and upgraded to an SSD about a month ago. However, I've been having a lot of heat issues/the fan doesn't help. I took it in to a repair place to try to see if the thermal paste is old/brittle and it was, but it didn't help the issue. They think it might be the heatsink itself. At this point, I'm probably just going to replace my 8yo laptop. I was looking into new macbook pros, but it seems that I can't use my ram/ssd to upgrade it myself because they're soldered in. Upgrading to those things thru Apple is just too expensive for me on top of the price of a new macbook pro. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for a new PC laptop? And if it's worth it to switch to PC? I use my laptop for mostly web browsing, some casual gaming, and using the microsoft office suite. My price range is $1300 or so (the price of the baseline 13in mbp) but preferably under. Thank you! [link] [comments]
What's the oldest macbook Pro that can be used with an external GPU? Posted: 02 Jun 2019 08:15 AM PDT I need a new laptop and PC and would rather get a macbook that could double as both. I don't want to spend a load as I don't really need much power. I'm not bothered about playing all the latest games max settings as long as it can play a few older and lower end titles I'll be happy. I've got an xbox for everything else [link] [comments]
What's a good laptop to run 3D printing software? Posted: 02 Jun 2019 11:58 AM PDT It doesn't have to be be anything fancy, as long as it can run the software and browse the internet, then it'd be good to go [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Jun 2019 10:48 AM PDT I've started looking for a new laptop primarily for home/office but I would like to be able do some gaming with it. So far 2 stores have recommended MSI the GF63 THIN9SC257 and the GL63. I like the prices, especially the first one but I can't seem to find much on MSI's reliability. I currently have an under powered lenovo but haven't really had an issue with it. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Jun 2019 10:11 AM PDT Hello, all! New here but I'm so glad I found it. I'm looking for a new laptop/tablet to use for my job. I manage a database and it's 100% web-based so I like to run it in Google Chrome. However, I do export a lot of data to Microsoft Excel and files are saved/synced to service called ShareFile (which has a website, a desktop app, and apps in both the app and play stores). So the main thing is being able to access those files on whatever device I may buy. I am able to work remotely a lot and I often find myself going out of town and having to bring my laptop with me. I currently have a 2011 Macbook Pro that is not very portable at all and has terrible battery life. I don't plan on getting rid of it (I'd like to just use it at home), but I am looking for something that's way more lightweight and portable so that I can transport it and open it up wherever I may be with ease and not having it die in 30 minutes without being plugged in. I'd like for it to run Windows with a screen size of < 13" and I'd ideally like to find something between $600 and $1000. Any recommendations? I've been looking at the Surface Pro 6 but nothing else has been standing out so far. Thank you if you can assist. Edit: Because I didn't use the form:

Posted: 02 Jun 2019 10:00 AM PDT I have an Asus VivoBook Pro 15" (N580VD), almost 2 years old. The battery runtime has decayed with time (as I guess it is to be expected with all laptops) and lately it would last about 40-50 minutes. For some reason, right now my laptop has been unplugged for a couple hours, and I have been using it actively for the past 70-80 minutes, and I have still 45% (It says about 1 hour of runtime left, at best performance)I have notice this about 20 minutes ago and I'm quite shocked.I thought It was a bug, since percentage seems to be going down quite fast (It was 53% ten minutes ago), but still, the battery is lasting way longer than usual. Can someone explain to me what is happening? If you need more info ask me and I'll try to post it for you [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Jun 2019 09:32 AM PDT I have a very old Dell Lattitude 433c and I figured this sub could be a good shot at helping me (if there is a better one, would really appreciate being pointed there). First off, are they actually worth anything? I know old laptops can be collectible but have no idea about this one. More importantly to me than a value is if there is a suitable charger for it? I'm really wanting to see if it works because i think it is just a cool piece of tech. Any help is greatly appreciated [link] [comments]

Upgrading from a slow HDD to a SDD in a ASUS K550J Posted: 02 Jun 2019 05:12 AM PDT Hey guys, I'm new to this sub :) I'm interested in upgrading my really slow HDD to a SSD in my ASUS K550J from 2015. Do you guys have any suggestions? Is it easy to replace? Will I have any compatibility problems? I don't need much GB of storage, since it's mostly for work and for media consumption. Thank you all! Will 200W USB C charging come to casual gaming laptops? Posted: 02 Jun 2019 07:30 AM PDT I know that USB PD is already available in some laptops with upward limit of 100W. I want is ask if 200W charging through usb C will be available in casual gaming laptops in future. As you might already casual gaming laptops (gtx XX60 or lower) require a maximum of 180W. As linked here https://www.sensorsmag.com/components/usb-type-c-power-controllers-deliver-up-to-200w, Texas Instruments has released a 200W USB PD controller in september last year. It is a dual port capable of 100W each and the ports are also compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and Displayport. With intel integrating the thunderbolt controller into cpu (icelake and after) and USB4 being only usb c port interface, will the charging will also be done with usb c in future laptops? Share your thoughts on this. edit: removed gtx 1070 [link] [comments]
My Dell XPS9560 can edit 4K videos... But only for 10-20 mins )-: Solution? Posted: 02 Jun 2019 03:15 AM PDT Hi there, I have a pretty strong laptop, and I am trying to figure out what is the bottleneck in allowing me to edit 4K videos. (Simple multi-angle videos from 2-3 cameras of just me playing guitar) Currently, when I am editing the videos (I use the latest Premiere 2019 with proxies) it runs well but after about 10-20 minutes I guess it starts to warm up or something, and then the entire computer slows down massively. (Including internet and everything else) Besides waiting a few minutes, I can also shut down and restart the computer after a few minutes and then it's back to normal. Perhaps I should look into a better fan or something? (When I edit so the fan become pretty noisy and the computer warms up around the upper left part of the keyboard. The laptop is a Dell XPS 9560, Intel 7700, 32 DDR4, GTX960. I tried editing both when plugged into power and both without, and it's the same. Thank you! Alon [link] [comments]
Dell XPS 13 or the new macbook air for university/editing/writing? Posted: 02 Jun 2019 06:24 AM PDT So I'm getting a new laptop, and I'm sort of leaning between the Mac Air and XPS 13. I mainly use my laptop for: 1. writing longer texts, essays, articles etc 2. watching movies/random media online 3. editing audio & photos I've had an old Air up until now, and I really enjoy the Apple interface. I like the keyboards, the software (pages). It might be a bit controversial but I truly am an Apple fanboy. My worries for the Dell XPS is that it'll feel too bulky, be incompatible with my airpods and iphone, and worst of all that the keyboard won't be "nice". Thoughts? [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Jun 2019 03:29 AM PDT Hi guys I'm looking for a laptop for my phd. I currently have a desktop for my work but I need to be able to take my work to conferences so a laptop is needed. My desktop has a 1060 in it so I'm basically just going to get the same as it gives me no issues. It's basically between: HP Omen 15 2018 model with the i7 and 1060 Medion Erazer X6805 with an i5 and 1060 Or potentially an msi gp63 Does anyone have thoughts on any of these? I'm in the UK, 1k budget and I need to be able to run unreal engine to a reasonable extent (nothing too fancy) Cheers! [link] [comments]

Recommandations for a good laptop Posted: 02 Jun 2019 01:31 AM PDT Hey y'all! For the last few years I've been using a desktop. Mainly beacause I was really into gaming. But that's no more so I'm looking to sell my PC and buy a laptop instead. Since it's more portable, takes up less space etc. Can you guys give me some recommendations on what brand, model to buy? I'm looking for something that's not too big but still powerful enough to handle a few games here and there. (for example: Minecraft, Team Fortress 2, maybe CS:GO, Far Cry 3, maybe 4) The maximum price I'd wanna pay is 600 USD. Thank you in advance, have a great day! [link] [comments] |
