How often do you reinstall your os? Posted: 14 May 2019 05:55 PM PDT Hello, I just installed a nice Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SSD in my laptop and I am someone who does not like to reinstall their laptop. It got me curious though. How often do you all reinstall your os? I don't like reinstalling it because i have everything set up the way I like it and having to setup all my programs and profile and other stuff is a PAIN. I would clone it but the original drive is an 1TB and the new is 500GB. I would like your alls opinion on it. [link] [comments]
A Malware that destroys your CPU and GPU, MsMpEngs.exe Posted: 14 May 2019 07:15 PM PDT It was confusing at first because I had TWO "Anti Malware Executable" running on my background.I didn't have any doubts at first because everyone says it's "Windows Defender's service to scan viruses inside your computer" and everyone have the same problem. There was two anti malware services that was running and I thought the other one was just some kind of branch service. The first one uses only 3% of my CPU but the second one used up to 60% of my CPU. I had it for 6 months and my laptop was in brink of being burned. Also, it uses a lot of power too. So I had to check where it was coming from. The anti malware service that uses only 3% was coming from MsMpEng.exe. The other anti malware service was coming from MsMpEngs.exe. Now I had more reason to assume that it was a malware. I searched it and had an info about it. https://virus-removal-guide.net/48786-remove-msmpengs-exe-miner-easy-steps-to-uninstall/ I simply deleted MsMpEngs.exe and the service didn't comeback anymore. It might still have some malware files somewhere. The best solution for me is to reformat it and find the program that installed on my computer. [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 May 2019 06:09 PM PDT hi, so i just restarted my computer after an update, and right before stuff like discord, steam, etc. would open, two notepad(?) panels were open saying win/system32 or something like that. I checked mcafee to see if any malware was on my device, but nothing came up in the scan. any ideas, or is this just normal? [link] [comments]
Color Management appears "mostly fixed" in 1903 Posted: 14 May 2019 06:07 PM PDT I'm sure this won't affect many of you but those of us with monitors that need calibration (like this SP.. which had an awful green hue) may have a better experience in 1903. In 1809 each time a USB device was plugged/unplugged, memory card inserted or screen rotation the display would rapidly flicker between default and applied color profiles. It could happen at random (some processes in the background doing something) so often while watching a video or reading I'd get flickers of green. I say mostly because rotation will disable the custom profile until reapplied. Just in case anybody cared! [link] [comments]

Ethernet Not Working after Updating Posted: 14 May 2019 02:01 PM PDT Help! This is driving me crazy! Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 a few years ago, my desktop's ethernet connection hasn't worked. I bought an external card. That didn't work either. Both my onboard ethernet port and card light up when the ethernet cable is inserted. The problem seems to be with the Intel I217-V driver which shows in device manager with a yellow triangle and the status "This device cannot start (Code 10). I've just ignored this for several years but I just moved to a new place with a fiber optic connection and I'd really like to have a working ethernet port. I've tried everything I could find online relating to this or similar issues including uninstalling the driver, downloading the latest drivers from Intel (which is this one), clearing the CMOS, updating my BIOS etc. The ethernet cable works fine on my Macbook Pro and other devices so it's definitely a Windows 10 issue. Anybody have any ideas? [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 May 2019 02:45 PM PDT Hi! So, recently at my work, my own desktop hd died and before buying one and wiping it out, I plugged our backup external drive and made a ntfsclone --rescue img of my disk. New HD set, everything working fine, deleted my .img from the backup drive since I was not going to need it anymore. Same day after this, took this co-worker desktop to also format and everything else, made a backup, now with Windows Image since his HD was working just fine. The first problem: Windows Image Backup accused a error at the end of the process, although it finished and made a .vhd file on our backup drive, deleted everything and tried again, same error. I though: "hey it's probably fine, let's rock that guy". Proceeded with the formatting. Reinstalled everything, annexed the .vhd copied the .pst of his outlook, configured his outlook with this exactly .pst, outlook accused it wasn't a .pst file. Wth scanpst and tried again, it worked, opened outlook and to my surprise, for some absolutely magical thing from my point of view , outlook opened my own .pst. Rechecked everything, deleted it and tried again, ran the scanpst again too since it accused again not being .pst. The same problem. Did someone experienced something like this? PS: didn't recorded the image backup error sadly [link] [comments]

Looking for some practical career advice about learning windows internals Posted: 14 May 2019 09:21 AM PDT Hey gang, I'm hoping to get some advice about learning windows more fully. I'm in the beginning of my career as a software developer, and it looks like I'll be using Windows based servers and desktops for the foreseeable future. Outside of doing my best to learn c# / .NET inside and out, what's a good way to learn windows internals and get a good sense of how to troubleshoot for windows? I'll primarily be working with windows server 2012 and windows 10 desktops. I've seen the Microsoft certifications on their site, will taking those courses accelerate my learning? Thanks! Issues with Eport Dock/Windows 10 Posted: 14 May 2019 05:30 AM PDT Hi there, I am having some strange issues with a Dell E5570 I just upgraded to Windows 10 from 7. The upgrade went smooth and everything works fine, but when the user boots it on her dock (e-port) it acts strange. Very slow to boot up after login screen. Says it's deleting the Touchpad drivers, I uninstalled the Alps drivers to troubleshoot but no change. If I pop it off the dock, it works normally, and continues to work normally if I put it back on the dock. It also boots/works normally if I boot it off the dock and use it/put it back on the dock while booted...so the issue seems to ONLY be when it is booted on the dock. I've installed all drivers off of the website, ran a sfc /scannow, virus/malware scans, Windows update...the works. So now I'm stumped. Has anyone else experienced this? I upgraded my own laptop (same thing, E5570) and have had no issues with it on/off our docking stations. [link] [comments]
Any idea if I can do something about this issue? Please read and help Posted: 14 May 2019 07:11 AM PDT So the problem is like this, my computer is used, besides me, by my brother and father, we each has his account, they are simple "Users" accounts, i am the Administrator, here is where my issues begins, every time they are installing/deleting and some other actions, they are asked for my pin/password , and of course I don't want to provide them with that information and also I don't want to make their accounts Administrator, is there anything I can do to enable some actions to not ask for my password ? Windows update KB4495667 Error Code 0x800f0922 Posted: 13 May 2019 08:23 PM PDT A couple of months ago, I had to do some recovery prompt shenanigans to restore a broken EFI partition, which probably broke when I uninstalled my linux dualboot partition incorrectly. Whenever I tried to boot up my computer, the GRUB recovery prompt would show up saying I had no boot drive, and I would have to manually boot from the windows disk from the BIOS, and sometimes the disk would not show up at all. Bottom line, I ended up installing the boot EFI files to the "system reserved partition," and my Windows would boot normally again. Now normally, the system reserved partition is 500 MB in size, and mine still is. However, after installing the EFI files from the recovery drive to the system reserved partition, the amount of available space in my system reserved partition went down to 441 MB. After looking up the error code online, it turns out that updates typically fail with error code 0x800f0922 if the system reserved partition is not between 450-500 MB available. My current thinking is that by increasing the amount of available space in my system reserved partition, I can successfully update Windows again. How should I go about doing this (preferably using Windows tools, not 3rd party or some shady "easy diskpart" software)? If this is not the right approach, what should I do to make my updates work again? I found this guide on the Microsoft website: Link here, would this be a good enough solution to get me some space? Help installing program on Windows 10, some kind of compatibility issue. Posted: 14 May 2019 12:32 AM PDT I have been trying to install a program called tygem for a while now. It is an online go server and is one of the most widely used in the world, maybe the most widely used. So I am certain it should work on Windows 10. If it helps I downloaded it from here: http://www.tygemgo.com/ When I run the install exe it fails and produces the error message below, someone has suggested I try to make the exe compatible with Windows 7 / Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 0 (9200). but compatibility mode only seems to offer vanila windows 7? I also tried right click run as admin. Sorry I'm not terribly techy, let me know if you need more info. Thanks. Error Code: -5001 : 0x80070002 Error Information:
