Posted: 14 May 2019 03:16 AM PDT https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FYcBkd My RAM is running at 2133 instead of the advertised 3200. I tried bumping it up to 3200 like I've seen done in the past, but it just crashes on boot. Is there something I am missing? Edit: Hey I wonder if I should enable XMP lol [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2019 07:09 AM PDT Would I be able to uplug my hard drive, install windows on the ssd, replug my hard drive and copy which files I really dont wanna redownload to the ssd, then format that hard drive? [link] [comments] |
How much of a difference can upgrading the RAM do for you (DDR3)? Posted: 14 May 2019 07:19 AM PDT Hi. So I've been running this computer for a good 5 years now. Actually a computer I've bought used from my friend, but the specs at that time were great and he gave me a pretty damn good price for it. The specs had 8GB DDR3 RAM, i5-4670k @ stock, and I pretty much used my old video card (GTX 570) for it to start. Upgraded the video card to a GTX1060 3GB, shortly after playing PUBG during the early days, although it honestly didn't seem to help very much. Soon, I then realized the RAM sticks were never placed in their proper positions to utilize dual channel. That change increased my FPS noticeably (at least 10), and there were less stutters overall, even in other games. It's crazy because I thought there was no way with my specs should be stuttering like this after reading a lot of forum posts sharing similar specs and run it with more FPS. And it wasn't just in PUBG either. I troubleshooted with MSI Afterburner to see the temps and all that, noticed that my RAM while playing would exceed the amount I actually had. I don't know how really describe it but I'm sure you guys would know what I mean. I think it's enabled via RAM usage? Anyways, I've noticed it's almost always at least 90% usage. If I have Chrome on, it's definitely going over 90% usage. Another thing I've noticed today was that the RAM frequency is @ 799MHz. I'm guessing that's normal if you're running dual channel right? How much of a difference would upgrading from 8GB to 16GB be for all those games I'm hitting close to 100% in, and how much of a difference would 1600MHz be vs 1866MHz? Really considering this: https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-1866MHz-Desktop-Memory-Heatsink/dp/B00453R90W [link] [comments] |
Looking for advice on budget Gaming build Posted: 14 May 2019 06:50 AM PDT Haven't built a PC in forever, but looking for a reasonable gaming PC that'll let me play Assassin's Creed: Odyssey at semi-decent settings, which my current potato laptop can't do. Is this a decent build for playing older games at 1080p and potentially streaming them? [link] [comments] |
Finally finished my build. RTX 2080, and I7 9700K Posted: 14 May 2019 12:13 PM PDT Title says it all, after almost two weeks of waiting and shipping delays, combined with Amazon problems, its finally here. It's not pretty but I'm considering it a sleeper build. This is the parts list. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MZ9Fvn And this is a picture of the finished build. http://imgur.com/a/GO5aHkS [link] [comments] |
the last usb you connected malfunctioned. Posted: 14 May 2019 01:57 PM PDT I was just in the middle of playing a game using my controller that was connected to my PC via USB. All of a sudden it sends me a windows message that the last device that was plugged in USB malfunctioned and then I was unable to use my controller. I tried unplugging and re plugging the charger in and it worked briefly and then I got the error again, after that it wouldn't work by replugging it in. Then I plugged my charger into my PS4 and saw that it still charged my controller, so the cord wasn't the issue. The I plugged in my phone charger into the same ports, then realized that the USB ports still worked. So I plugged in my controller cord into the other port on the back of my PC and saw that it worked that way. I don't know what the issue is that I am having. Why my controller stop working in the USB ports when the cord and the USB ports weren't the issue? [link] [comments] |
New guy looking to upgrade my two year old Cyberpower prebuilt Posted: 14 May 2019 05:46 AM PDT AMD FX-6300 Six Core 3.5GHz, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB HDD, AMD R7 250 2GB. Besides everything, what would you guys recommend I upgrade first? I'm looking into at least a 4GB graphics card, however will I notice a huge difference with this change? [link] [comments] |
New PC build keeps crashing relentlessly Posted: 14 May 2019 11:01 AM PDT Hello! I've been experiencing weird crashes on my PC mostly daily over the course of a year both before and after upgrading most of the internal components. Here's my current build: CPU: AMD FX-8300 CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo MB: ASRock 970 Pro3 R2.0 GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 Ti SSD: Samsung 860 EVO SATA SSD (250 GB) RAM: Kingston 4 GB Single Channel DDR3 (665 Mhz) Optical drive: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-222AB ATA PSU: Seasonic M12 II Evo Bronze 520W Case: Corsair Carbide 200R The RAM and the optical drive are the only old components from my old PC that I haven't yet upgraded. The oldest component in this build is the PSU (~2 years old). I've been experiencing various system crashes (BSODs) and freezes. I cannot pinpoint the exact point in time that they started occuring and the variety and manner of these crashes may as well point to unrelated issues altogether. I am also not able to reproduce these crashes which makes debugging very difficult. The crashes usually happen either in the form of a BSOD or a hard lock both during high and low usage (sometimes even when the PC is idle). The error message usually contains either IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (which is probably driver related based on quick research) or something related to memory management. Several crashes were related to Realtek drivers which I have since updated to no avail. At first I suspected the old RAM module to be the cause of these crashes, especially after receiving numerous BSODs related to memory management. However, a couple of memtest passes returned no errors. I've repeated the memtest a few times to be sure that there are no faulty memory blocks only to receive the same results. How long should I run the memtest for? An hour? Overnight? I've read that the likelihood of detecting memory issues with memtest decreases over time which is why I never bothered to run it for more than a few passes. The crashes appear to be mostly random and with differing frequency. I have, however, noticed that the crashes become more frequent when there's high I/O activity, for example when downloading a game through Steam at ~10-15 MB/s. However, I've been experiencing similar crashes both before and after upgrading to an SSD which makes this a real head scratcher. I'm running a dualboot system with Windows 10 and Linux Mint and I've reinstalled both of them recently to rule out issues related to stale installs, software conflicts, etc. I've experienced most of these crashes on Windows but I've had Linux crash on me as well on several occasions. Nothing on the system is overheating. I am also not overclocking any system component. I've also suspected the PSU but I don't know how to debug PSU related issues. My old build was plagued by similar issues which may or may not be related (and even if they were, they would most likely be related to the RAM module and the optical drive which are the only components that I haven't upgraded yet). I suppose these crashes could be related to any of the following:
How should one go about debugging something like this? Possibly related: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/4wntjv/just_built_my_dream_pc_crashes_when_playing_games/ Edit: forgot to specify the amount of RAM [link] [comments] |
Very dumb question, but it’s worth it to ask. Posted: 13 May 2019 05:36 PM PDT I'm just purchasing my keyboard for my first build, and i've wondered what exactly different switches do? I know it may be a stupid question, and it's okay if I get downvotes, just need a simple answer! Edit: Thank you everyone! I've went with Cherry Red switches, thanks for being nice people about such a silly question and giving me all this info! Edit 2: I just came back from work to so many more replies with help... you guys are awesome. Thank you again! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2019 02:39 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm looking to get a monitor for the computer parts i have yet to assemble. I'm trying to find a 24 inch 144 hz refresh for under 300. I found an acer (i think)that was in that budget but i always get scared off by 1 star reviews, even if there are only a few haha. Can you guys recommend a monitor in that price range? I dont want to go over 300. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2019 01:51 PM PDT So I'd like to build a pc, but I'm not sure where I should invest my money. I'll use my computer for browsing the internet, Word, Onenote, etc. But mainly for light gaming (games such as Oxygen Not Included, Civ6, Prison Architect and CS:GO.) What are the minimum specs I'll need for this? Thanks in advance :) [link] [comments] |
Do I have to reinstall Windows 10 if I buy a new mobo + CPU ? Posted: 14 May 2019 04:28 PM PDT Im upgradeing but I dont want to reinstall win10 if I dont have to. What do you think? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2019 04:56 AM PDT Ive enable g-sync through nvidia control pannel. Is that all i have to do? Cannot find a freesync setting anywhere... I also set it to 144hz through windows settings, is there anything else im missing to optimize the display?? [link] [comments] |
Is 144Hz worth the extra cash? Posted: 14 May 2019 03:44 PM PDT So I've been looking to buy a new monitor, but I'm rather skeptical of what to buy. Mostly, is it worth the extra cash for a 144Hz monitor as compared to a 60Hz monitor? If anyone has had experience with both refresh rates that would be fantastic to hear. [link] [comments] |
PC only downloads items onto local drive, can't get anything onto second hard drive Posted: 14 May 2019 02:59 PM PDT So my PC has a solid state, meant only for Windows, and a 2 TB hard drive, where I'd like to put everything else. But when I just downloaded discord and steam, it automatically put both into the SSD (local C:), even when I specifically told steam to put everything into the HDD (system reserved D:). How do I set up the drives so that it automatically downloads things now to the hard drive? [link] [comments] |
Looking to upgrade my gaming PC Posted: 14 May 2019 05:26 AM PDT Hello everybody. These are my current specs. CPU: Intel i5 4670k I figured that with my budget, I should probably get a new GPU and if money allows, 8 more gigabytes of RAM. What are you guys' suggestions? By the way, if I have two sticks of 8 gigabytes, can I add one more stick of 8 or do all sticks need to be the same size? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2019 01:10 PM PDT So ligthing hitted and my scren went dark with gliched lines than i took it out from power source. Now its not starting there are no visible damage on it. I have still waranty but i think it doesnt apply on electricity issues if i sent it there willl be they able to know what happened if i dont tell them [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2019 04:38 PM PDT I'm wondering what the best mono would be for a 8700k and 1660ti build that can overclock well [link] [comments] |
About to pull the trigger, am I making any big mistakes? Posted: 14 May 2019 04:33 PM PDT I think im ready to buy for my first build. Hoping to get one last check from you fine folks to make sure im not about to do anything stupid. [link] [comments] |
How do I know what to look for in a monitor? Posted: 14 May 2019 04:28 PM PDT So my pc is actually already built I just need the right monitor...So my current monitor (and the past 2 I've used) all have these issues, my fault for getting hand me downs/used ones, guess it's time to shell out some big dough for a new monitor that meets some specifics. The old monitors had issues with icons and text being blurry/pixelated, despite fine tuning the pc resolution, monitor settings, going into regedit and doing what I could, literally weeks of work and not being able to make it look right. When I play games, there's this horrible motion blur, playing something like Path of Exile gives me a migraine because all of the text fuzzes over when my character is in motion. And now I've got a single thick black stripe running down the side of my display (not the physical screen) so I'm just over it. But I don't really know what to look for in a monitor that will solve all these problems and be worth the money. Is it based on my graphics card? Or just pretty much get a 4k with high refresh rate and it'll be compatible with my PSU and all that other stuff? [link] [comments] |
Moving my main ssd from a intel system to ryzen system Posted: 14 May 2019 04:26 PM PDT So I have a ssd with all of my stuff on it, and I was going to put it straight into my ryzen system. But I'm assuming it's not "plug and play" because of the drivers I currently have downloaded, and idk what else. Sorry if this seems like a stupid question [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2019 02:10 PM PDT I just received everything for my gaming build. How can I make a quick test bench or some sort? I understand that you just basically put the PC together without the case, but are there any other tips and things to look out for beforehand? *1080ti strix *2600x *16gb 3000 trident z rgb *Rmx 750 *B450-f strix *Kraken x62 *850 pro 500gb *h500 [link] [comments] |
