I just wanted to thank this community for its existence. Posted: 14 May 2019 10:07 PM PDT I wanted to build a PC since the early 2000s, but was always too scared I'd brick everything and lose my investment. I found this community last year and finally took the plunge, got the confidence to buy the parts and built a PC at the end of 2018. It felt great when I finished it and it booted and it's still running (shouldn't be surprised, but I've had some pretty heavy negativity in my life, so it's a huge win.) I never would have done it without the help I got here, so thank you for being here, especially to those that gave tailored advice, and those that are here to help! You're all awesome! Does Xbox Elite Controller on PC allow for binding keyboard keys to the paddles? Posted: 15 May 2019 03:19 PM PDT Either through official drivers or third party. I know you can bind controller buttons to keyboard keys with stuff like Joy2Key, but will that work with the paddles? Or are the paddles just mimicking other controller buttons and can I not just specifically bind the paddles? Couldn't really find any info on this. If it's not possible to do, perhaps someone has another suggestion to achieve what I want to do: I want it mainly for emulators so I can bind hotkeys and/or modifiers to the controller. For example save state saving/loading, pausing/starting emulation, speedhack etc. Also apologies if this isn't the right sub for this, I was going to /r/pcgaming but there was a no hardware purchase questions rule that linked to this sub. Fan starts and stop when CPU is in Posted: 15 May 2019 02:18 AM PDT Edit: after resetting CMOS on my old Mobo, it posted with only 1 of the 2 sticks of RAM. Seems like it got damaged somehow while vacuum cleaning. This is a precautionary tale about never using vacuum cleaning and never detaching the heatsink without redoing the thermal paste. Canned air works much better I've just found out. Thanks everyone for the help! The PC was working until I cleaned it with a vacuum cleaner (now know it was a mistake) so I guessed I had killed the Mobo so I found the same Mobo second hand and have been trying to get it to work. Here's the problem: Plugged in:
When I power it on, the PSU fan starts and stop in an endless loop.
The PSU fan starts, doesn't stop and behaves normally. What does this mean? Both scenarios breadboarded and don't give any video or post. Any help is appreciated, let me know if you need more details. CPU hitting 90% Temp - Disk 100% Posted: 15 May 2019 03:25 PM PDT Any reason why my CPU is 30 - 60 to -90 Temp when I'm not even doing anything. I recently upgraded my motherboard, CPU and ram. Setup AMD RYZEN 7 2700 X CPU with Wraith prism RGB LED Cooler (Paste was Pre-Applied) ASUS ROG STRIX X470 F GAMING MOTHERBOARD CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR4 2X 8GB (16GB) RAM GEFORCE GTX 1050 TI GRAPHICS CARD POWER SUPPLY CORSAIR CX750 GREEN STORAGE 1TB SATA-III 6GB HDD 7200RPM 32MB Any reason why this is happening? In Bios temp is 50-60c ? Could it be my hard drive as it is old and is due for an upgrade To note - sometimes it sounds like it's about to take off when I open Google chrome or something simple. Also I didn't put the PC together so I will try my best to answer the difficult questions 😆 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 May 2019 02:39 PM PDT Hey guys, I built a PC a couple months back and it was giving me trouble after I first built it because it wasn't starting up at all. No lights or fans kicking on or anything, which is really confusing to me. Double checked that the RAM is clicked all the way into place and checked for anything that wasn't connected securely. Would appreciate any help from you guys! The only part I didn't buy off Amazon was the GTX 1080, bought that off eBay still new in box. Using a secondary touch screen monitor on PC Posted: 15 May 2019 02:27 PM PDT Is there any way to use a touch screen monitor on pc as a secondary monitor? If I do, it ends up interacting with my 144hz monitor. I set the touch screen monitor (7") as the main, and it works properly, but it isn't great that everything opens up primarily on the small touch screen. Any workarounds or settings i'm missing? On Windows 10 BTW [link] [comments] |
Buying a used GPU. How do YOU test it? Posted: 15 May 2019 11:39 AM PDT Got a good deal on a 1080ti (at least I'm hoping so). Which steps should someone take when testing a used graphics card? [link] [comments] |
Single Rank(4x8GB) vs Dual Rank(4x16GB) Posted: 15 May 2019 02:19 PM PDT Preparing for a fresh Ryzen 3000 build. CPU is undecided because all we have are rumors right now, but I do a lot of editing in premiere, as well as after effects and some gaming. I have been pulled in two different directions when it comes to Ram. I have been told that going with 2x16GB will be fine with a dual channel system, as well as 4x8GB. However, because a 16GB DDR4 stick is only dual ranked, a 4x16GB could apparently be too much for a Ryzen system to handle with a dual channel configuration and cause performance regression. I have seen many posts that both support and refute this, but nothing official. I have tried and tried to google and even youtube this issue for comparisons, but all I end up with are Benchmarks of 1x16GB vs 2x8GB etc. All 4x16GB results are for HEDT Quad channel systems and often compare to 8x8GB. One thing that remains constant is that Benchmarks show a decent gain in render speed when using 64GB vs 32GB. The increase has also shown to be more considerable than going from 16GB to 32GB. My question is, does it make sense on a dual channel system to use a 4x16GB when Video Editing, Rendering, and gaming? Will there be any issues running 4 dual rank sticks vs 4 single rank sticks in a dual channel system? [link] [comments] |
Buying from amazon warehouse deals Posted: 15 May 2019 02:06 PM PDT So I found an Asus PG279Q on amazon warehouse for just €500. While brand new costs €700. The description says "Small aesthetic imperfections inside the product. The product will be shipped in it's original box. The box will be damaged" I've never bought used products on amazon but isn't it too much of discount for just some aesthetic imperfections? [link] [comments] |

Sell old parts separately, or build PC to sell? Posted: 15 May 2019 04:09 PM PDT Question is in the title, but you know: reddit. I just upgraded a good deal of my PC (everything but storage and case) and given the new parts long enough to know whether they'll play nice. So the question on my mind, is do I buy a new case, drives, and windows in order to sell it as a full PC? Or should I just part it out separately? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 May 2019 12:19 PM PDT For an intel and ryzen system what is truly the greater benefit in gaming? Low cas or higher frequency? Using these two for comparison :: Dual channel kits: 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) of RAM 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM with running speeds up to 4600 MHz Timing of 19-23-23-43 CAS latency of 19 Vs 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) of RAM 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM with running speeds up to 3600 MHz Timing of 16-16-16-36 CAS Latency 16 Legitimately can't seem to find any proof proving one or the other and am consistently finding articles stating one or the other. Posted: 15 May 2019 03:58 PM PDT https://pcpartpicker.com/user/vantagebeef/saved/#view=mqJf99 ^ Hello, I was wonder if someone could look at this, and tell me your thoughts. You may have seen this before, but I have changed things up. I'd like to have the Ryzen 5 1600, and the RGB Ram. The MoBo looks great for the price (RGB is a plus) and love the case and it has tempered glass. The GPU is great (RX 580 for 150 with promo). I will be playing FPS games and maybe streaming and music/discord. Modified list are extremely helpful! Thanks! ;) [link] [comments] |

Computer wont start after I tampered with CMOS Posted: 15 May 2019 03:56 PM PDT So originally the computer would start but beep 5 times on startup and not do anything so after a while I thought oh well ill just pop out the cmos chip and put it back in. After doing so the computer won't give any indication of starting, no noise nothing. I have also tried to switch the battery with a computer that does turn on no luck. Here is a picture of the mobo https://dl3.pushbulletusercontent.com/myuAG9ZiGypo7EvwAUCoVbJViOsG3wOE/IMG_6231.JPG Also I moved around the jumpers and am not sure if they should be back on those pins. Any idea how I can have this thing running again? [link] [comments] |
Pc will not power on. Advice needed Posted: 15 May 2019 03:48 PM PDT Troubleshooting Help:What is your parts list? Consider formatting your parts list. Mother board :Asus strix b250f gaming CPU: i5 9600k Gpu: gtx 2070 gigabyte Ram:Corsair vengeance 2 X 8. CPU cooler :deep cool gammax 400 Storage 2 X 1 TN hard drives and one 240 GB SSD kingsten PSU 5 year old Corsair cx750. That has always worked fine and was using 4 days ago perfectly. Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive. Mother board will light up into standby with RGB strip but after that the power button does nothing at all. List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem. I have taken the mother board out of case to see if it was shorting against the case and powered it up out side the case on my desk with gpu , ram and all storage disconnected. The same conclusion happened as before just stand by and nothing happens after hitting power button. Put it back in case and tried again nothing. Tried new power button on old pc and just hooked up the power sw cable onto old mother board nothing. I have ran out of ideas what to do Post relevant photos of build/parts here. Replace this text with your answer. Provide any additional details you wish below. Just any ideas or theory's would be really helpful I plan on bringing it too a pc store if I can't fix it for a second opinion too. Thanks for reading :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 May 2019 03:44 PM PDT Hello, I have no knowledge when it comes to fps and how to get better fps. Not sure if my build is only supposed to handle 144 fps for most games but I feel as if it could be better Build: Ryzen 5 2600 Gpu: msi geforce rtx 2060 Mobo: msi b450 tomahawk My monitor is a 1080p 144hz asus monitor 16 gb ram (I think that's all that can affect fps?) For most games (fortnite, league, apex) it seems I max out at 144fps. Is this all my system can handle? Or am I doing something wrong [link] [comments] |
