Repeating Google News Notifications Posted: 14 May 2019 07:46 PM PDT G10+ I get Google News notifications, some I open, others I dismiss. It seems at least once a day one story decides it wants to continue to pop up randomly throughout the day. It's usually only one story all day, all the others dismiss and stay dismissed. Its also a different story each day. Anyone else having this issues? Know a fix? [link] [comments] |
Samsung user. Thinking about switching to iPhone. Talk me out of it. What am I missing? Posted: 14 May 2019 09:31 AM PDT My family has all converted to iPhones over time with me being the long lone holdout due to Apple just rubbing me the wrong way a long time ago with their emphasis on the fashionability of devices. They trade pictures of my baby nieces and nephews on iCloud which I don't have access to unless I purchase a device. Also lately Google has been doing things I disagree with. I won't get into detail about those things. A lot of it has to do with what they've been doing with YouTube. And my brother has convinced me that everything I'm used to will work just fine on an iPhone. I can have a 6.5 inch screen like I want, I can still use Chromecast apparently, all the apps are on iPhone and iPhone has even more games than Android does. He even addressed my concerns about my having control of the phone. I'll be able to install untrusted apps if I want to. So I guess I have full control over the phone. I figure if there are any red flags in this decision, Android fans would know them. Perhaps you're former iPhone users and can warn me of what I'm not expecting or tell me why this is a bad decision. Just switched to Android from iOS. What are some cool things I should try/do? Posted: 14 May 2019 06:22 PM PDT ^ See title. Decided to trade in for the Pixel 3A after springboard kept crashing on my 7, and I'm looking for some fun things to do/download/configure. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Getting into a phone without a screen AND without USB debugging enabled? Posted: 14 May 2019 09:30 PM PDT Hello reddit, I've been trying to offload data from my beloved Z1 Compact, it however does not have a screen, and it was enabled to ask what to do whenever I plug it into a laptop. I've tried using ADB and FonePaw, both however, require that USB debugging is enabled, but without a screen, I can't really do that. Any way to force my phone to USB debug from Command prompt? (I have windows 10 devices.) Any advice would be great! I will be getting a new screen, but I want to offload the data before hand since I can't purchase the screen for another month.. How to clear up system memory? Posted: 14 May 2019 08:30 PM PDT So I've recently found an old android phone and wanted to restore it so I reset it to factory settings. I downloaded a few small apps I wanted however I got a message saying I need to free up storage. I went to check my storage and it said 7.28 GB of 8.00 GB used which made no sense to me but then I saw that system memory took up a whopping 5.09 GB which is absolutely ridiculous. I've tried resetting it again as well as uninstalling files and apps through ADB however that did nothing to help. How do I clear up system memory? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2019 08:28 PM PDT I was wondering if there is a noticeable difference between the OG Pixel and Pixel 3a LTE modem and WIFI chipset? Is it a better modem and chipset? I am thinking about upgrading my pixel 1 to the pixel 3a, and was wondering if the LTE and WIFI speeds would be better. I know it's subjective, but wanted to see if there would be a difference. I'm currently using an unlocked pixel 1 on Verizon and plan on buying an unlocked pixel 3a. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Which is your favourite keyboard app and why? Specially for German speakers Posted: 14 May 2019 08:23 PM PDT My phone came with gboard which I liked more but the autocorrect won't work with German, only with Spanish and English. I switched to SwiftKey but I feel like the autocorrect is not as good (for Spanish and English, of course) and I depend on that thing, I never hit the letters than I should, also I'm a fast typer, so the flow thing only slows me down. So that, if you use German as one of your keyboard languages, what app do you use? To the general typers out there which is you favorite keyboard? [link] [comments] |
Google Fit no longer tracks my walks accurately; how can I fix this? Posted: 14 May 2019 04:26 PM PDT Google Fit used to track my walks pretty accurately, but lately it's only been recording my location once every 10 minutes or so, leading to walks around the neighborhood that look like triangles rather than actually following the contours of the roads. Is there any way to fix this? I want accurate information on how far I walked and how many calories I burned, and I can't get that with these triangular walks! Thanks! :) [link] [comments] |
Essential PH-1 notification problems Posted: 14 May 2019 07:54 PM PDT Hi, I'm currently using the Essential PH-1 from Sprint, which is running the lastest Pie software, and most notification features from any app in my phone do not function. The only app that I get notifications from is Snapchat. My default SMS app, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, etc. are all not working. Everthing else seems to be just fine. I'm not sure whether it's a terrible bug but I've tried everything from changing the settings to factory resetting with no success. What's even worse is that this problem has been prominent since before Pie came out. I welcome any advice on how to go about this terrible problem. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Lag for the call screen to show up (Samsung A30) Posted: 14 May 2019 07:46 PM PDT Anyone else ever have this ? On my Samsung A30 i notice a little lag for my call screen to show up after pressing "call". Also when i have an incoming call i hear the ring a couple times before it lights up the screen. I know it's not the most powerful phone but everything else is pretty snappy. I'm running Android 9 on a Samsung Galaxy A30. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
How can I stop my phone from "casting" stuff Posted: 14 May 2019 07:44 AM PDT Hello there. Basically, I want my phone to ignore chromecast and smart TVs. I do not use them, but they are in my building. I've accidentally cast youtube with a slip of the finger or through trying to remove the "resume on TV" notification many times. I now have to be extra careful when swiping the "resume on tv" notification. It's really annoying to me and whoever is watching their TV at the time. It also gives me paranoia. I just want it to exist within itself until I choose not to (like, in the unlikely event I actually want to cast) Is this at all possible? Thanks. I do sometimes use Spotify connect though. And my printer. [link] [comments] |
Likely hardware issue? No voice service, but data & SMS/MMS are fine Posted: 14 May 2019 05:57 AM PDT Last week the voice (phone) service on my Huawei Mate 9 stopped working. I can't receive incoming calls and outgoing calls just show "Dialing..." and never connect, then time out. Initially I thought the cell or cells near my home & work (1 mile apart) were having issues, but it's clear that's not the problem after a 300+ mile drive with no improvement. Mobile data, GPS, and texting all work fine. The signal is normal and there are no indications in the OS of any errors. I replaced the SIM, but that did not help. I did drop the phone on a hard floor from about 4 feet up on Weds or Thurs but there is no external damage. I'm worried I may have damaged the antenna or loosened some connection or something, though. The main question: what should I try now? Any ideas what the problem might be? I don't know much about phone hardware but it seems odd that a drop could affect voice but not mobile data or texting. But, if this is a possibility, is it even worth the time and cost to get a phone repair place to look at it (or try myself) ? Since this isnt exactly a super popular phone - certainly not a Galaxy phone or iPhone - wouldn't getting parts be a challenge, if that is indicated? So, should I (or a professional) attempt hardware troubleshooting/repair (with no idea what the problem is) or just suck it up and buy a new phone? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
How’s dark mode doing on Android? Posted: 14 May 2019 12:37 PM PDT I've never owned an Android phone in my life, I've always been a jailbroken iPhone guy. Recently though, I've been considering the switch. How has dark mode been doing on Android? How do third party app support work? Is there any universal app that just turns every app dark? Are there individual ones for each app? How good are the options and are they paid? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
OxygenOS vs Android on the Pixel, what are the pros and cons of each? Posted: 14 May 2019 06:20 PM PDT |
Posted: 14 May 2019 06:11 PM PDT I have an LG K8-350n and I've just set it up and haven't installed any apps, the only apps on it are the ones which come with the phone. As soon as I connected it to WiFi it updates and takes all of the 8GB of storage. I currently have 7.42GB used out of 8.00GB. I put a 16GB Micro SD card into the phone and it only wants to use it as Portable storage and won't let me move apps/app data to it. How would I go about freeing up storage space on the internal memory? Delete the unnessessary apps and make the phone usuable? [link] [comments] |
Confused about Micro SD Card Write Speed for Nokia 5 Posted: 14 May 2019 10:39 AM PDT Hi, I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some advice. I'm trying to find a more suitable SD card to use with my android phone (Nokia 5) at the moment, I have this one... https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8545749 but I've not been using it to store apps or much because, it's just not seeming to write to it very well, would you guys be able to recommend a better write speed for an SD card, I've got my eye on this one, would it be better? https://www.ebuyer.com/875990-transcend-128gb-uhs-i-u1-micro-sd-card-ts128gusd300s thanks in advance! 4 New Galaxy SM-T580 Tablets w/ Constant Wifi Disconnects Posted: 14 May 2019 05:54 PM PDT I purchased 4 new Galaxy SM-T580 tablets (Amazon $165/ea)for four kids ages 6-11. Purchased and installed Minecraft from Google Play store. All 4 children can play Minecraft on individual worlds on their own device with little to no issue. However, when multiple children try to join with one child's world as visible on the LAN under the "Friends" tab, very shortly the three connected to the "server" device get a message that they are "Disconnected from the server", and then that world is no longer visible on the "Friend" list.A couple of times this has actually managed to disable (as in turn it "off" in the android settings) the wifi on the host Android device. All four children's devices are logged into a single parent google account on the google play store. My wifi access point is a Ubiquiti AC-PRO and a Ubiquiti EdgerouterX and has excellent performance in the room in which the children have attemtped to to play cooperatively. When I log in to the Ubiquiti Unifi app to view the AP status from a laptop, and monitor all the eye candy available I can literally watch the host tablet device go from perfect connection (Wifi Experience 100%) to essentially zero, after the 3 other tablets connect to it for about 2-3 minutes. It's almost like the outgoing wifi radio on the tablet itself is getting overloaded. To eliminate the possibility that it had something to to with the Ubiquiti AC-Pro AP i removed it and switched to a TP-link wireless AP and the issue persisted. To test various scenarios I hosted a minecraft game on two separate tests each on Apple devices (one iPhone 6s+ and one iPad3 with paid Minecraft from Apple App Store) and all four Android tablets connect and play flawlessly to that iOS hosted game for more than 5 minutes at a time. Once i switched back to one of the new SM-T580 devices hosting the game within 2-3 minutes the host device would disconnect all three other devices from the "server" and then none of those three devices could see the 4th host device under the friends list for about 3 minutes (possibly radio cool down or something??). I have tried hosting a game from each of the four Android tablets with similar or indentical server disconnect issues. The disconnects only happen when one of the SM-T580 devices hosts. Two of the tablets run Android 6.0 and two run 7.0. All are rooted with TWRP and Magisk, but running completely vanilla stock ROMs. I have only been able to produce this issue by allowing other devices to connect to a Minecraft world on the LAN. If there are other diagnostics that could be used to "load" the wifi radio please let me know. Could i have done something in the root process that limits the wifi performance? Is there a wifi performance setting I need to enable? Is there a known SM-T580 wifi radio issue? If so would updating to a newer Android version help this issue? Any radio firmware updates available? Anything else i should focus on for troubleshooting? Thank each of you in advance for any help you may be able to offer. I really appreciate it. [link] [comments] |
Any way to make to have Hacker's Keyboard let you bind a word to a key? Posted: 14 May 2019 11:51 AM PDT I'm honestly trying to play Vice City with cheats and typing them in every time is annoying. Help, please! Thanks. [link] [comments] |

"Clear History" option gone from the settings on Play Store Posted: 14 May 2019 05:03 AM PDT Hello everyone, I would like to verify with you if your Google Play Store also has this option gone. One minute I had it and the next one it was gone, without updating/rebooting or installing any app. I have a Xiaomi Mi 8. [link] [comments] |
Upgrading from Huawei Mate 9 to Pixel 3a? Posted: 14 May 2019 04:09 PM PDT I'm on a Huawei Mate 9 and am looking to upgrade and get off of Huawei phones. I was wondering if a Pixel 3a XL would be enough of an upgrade to justify the cost? Or would I be better off just spending the extra money on a Note 9/Pixel 3 tier phone? In case suggestions or further info is needed, I am on a TracFone plan so I need the phone to be unlocked. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 14 May 2019 03:36 PM PDT I just downloaded the most recent Samsung Galaxy S9Plus update for AT&T. I have been having an issue with Google Play services running extremely slow on my home wifi (Xfinity) but no issues in other locations. I've dealt with Comcast numerous times. I factory reset a few weeks ago and after a week, everything started to be normal, until this update. Basically what happens is the following: All updates are very slow. Doesn't go from download to install as fluidly as it should. Push notifications are extremely delayed. I cannot open attachments in my Gmail. Downloading items take a very long time to appear.
