Win 7 KB4499164 breaks desktop background slideshow. Posted: 15 May 2019 06:38 PM PDT Win 7 Pro 64-bit, previously up-to-date with all available 'roll-ups'. No changes to display-related control panel items, power management or policies noted since the update was installed. Right-clicking desktop, "next desktop background" works fine, but that background stays, regardless of the interval specified in settings. [link] [comments]

Can WindowsOS be attacked during the reinstall process? Posted: 15 May 2019 01:26 PM PDT Hi all, after cleaning the drive and reinstalling windows, can a hacker still somehow compromise the downloading OS files? For example slip in a corrupted OS file, and then the installer will treat that as the right one and use that? Thanks [link] [comments]

Windows subsystem on windows? (Like a VM but shared kernel) Posted: 15 May 2019 02:44 PM PDT In linux, you can chroot into another root filesystem and if configured correctly, run programs inside it. This allows you to have a VM-ish thing, but lighter and less secure. Is this possible in windows? [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 May 2019 08:31 AM PDT My notebook (asus X555L - W10) has been having a few problems lately (being slow, freezing screen, crashing programs), so I used the 'fresh start' tool on Windows, it seemed to have fixed the problem for a while but yesterday on the notif tray there was a "click here to start repair on unit" message - okay, did it. Then I turned it off, when I booted it this morning a message saying "automatic repair" showed up on the loading screen, then it went black. I turned it off and on again a few times and it kept showing up and then it went to a black screen; read somewhere to keep pressing F8 but that didn't work and I really don't know what to do cause I don't understand this stuff - can someone please help me? Tl;dr - my notebook is on automatic repair loop and pressing F8 won't work, don't know what to do (Sorry for the long text) [link] [comments]
Windows starts with Japanese, even though my default is ENG, how to change this? Posted: 15 May 2019 06:47 AM PDT Edit: Added text here for clarification as I'm not sure the title makes sense. I installed win10 with English(US) as default and then added Japanese later after windows was already installed. My default language is ENG, but when I start up my PC it starts with the JP one selected - bottom right corner shows Japanese selected instead of "ENG". It's pretty easy to just switch it with ALT + Shift, but I'm wondering why this is happening in the first place and how to change it. [link] [comments]
How to display the Windows Boot Manager menu during computer start? Posted: 15 May 2019 01:38 PM PDT With Windows 7, this can be done by repeatedly pressing the F8 key. But with Windows 10, this method no longer work. Note: I do not want to make the computer to always display the Windows Boot Manager without pressing a key. [link] [comments]
accidentally uninstalled the windows license key Posted: 15 May 2019 01:27 PM PDT I recently started receiving the warning for my laptop windows license key expires. I did some research and uninstalled the license key by accident. I was hoping someone more experienced could help me? [link] [comments]

"Ethernet doesn't have a valid ip configuration" issue Posted: 15 May 2019 07:26 AM PDT Hey guys, I'm typing this because I'm desperate for help and have no idea how to fix this issue, I couldn't find any help with my specific issue and I'd really appreciate some help or insight on this. So basically about 2 weeks ago or a bit more, my Ethernet cable started acting really weird, whenever I turned on my pc, I'd have this yellow emote thing on my internet cable mark at the bottom right, which means internet isn't working. First off I made sure that the issue is not coming from my pc, my brother's pc who also had a ethernet cable also stopped working, and both of the cables were properly working. So the way I fixed the internet 2 weeks ago was simply restarting my router and keeping it turned off for around 5 min and then it worked. But whenever I turn my pc off, I'd have to restart my router again, and a week later restarting the router for 5 min wasn't enough, after restarting the router I had to remove my cable from the socket from the wall and replugg it like 3 times then it worked, which is really random and I never understood why. But today I came back home and tried to do those things but my internet just does not want to work.. I really don't know what to do anymore, would really appreciate some help. Also forgot to mention that Wifi works completely fine. [link] [comments]
Problem with the upgrade to windows 10 Posted: 15 May 2019 06:52 AM PDT I have a pc with windows 7 ultimate that is all activated and even have the genuine logo. I want to upgrade it to windows 10 since 7 is discontinued and I already did this process recently in another pc with the same os and it went all right. But this time when I run the tool to upgrade it shows a telemetry error and when it already downloaded the new os it asks for a serial key. I already have recovered the key that's instaled and tried it and it didn't work. I bought this pc from a "builder" and it came with an OEM os (i think it did). There's any way to verify if the os is truly legitimate or it´s a telemetry error related to network and Microsoft not being able to verify it? If there's any way to fix it I need to keep all the files and programs that are installed in it. [link] [comments]
[Help] Activation windows on new pc Posted: 15 May 2019 01:59 AM PDT I bought a new pc, just the components, I need to assemble them and install the os. Is it possible to deactivate the license of windows on my now old pc (and put linux on it for example) and use it for the new one? The license is a retail version on windows 10 pro n, fully legal. It is associated with my microsoft account. Thanks! [link] [comments]
