Should I avoid the Huawei matebook x pro (2018 model)? Posted: 29 May 2019 06:29 AM PDT I live in Scandinavia, and I have a friend who just purchased the huawei matebook x pro (2018 model). I was quite stunned by the amazing display and specs, aswell as the ridicilous (low) price as it's on quite the discount in my local tech store. For the 16GB ram, 512GB SSD model, usual price is around 1840 euros (2000 dollars), now it's available for roughly 1433 euros (1600 dollars). I decided to reserve a model for myself in my local tech store, but after reading about the huawei ban I've become extremely skeptical - to the point where I will most likely cancel the reservation and avoid buying a new laptop all together, for now. I didn't think much about this ban to begin with as I thought it seemed preposterous for US companies to suddenly cut such a major phone and PC manufacturer. Even though 1400 euros isn't a lot for the specs you're given, it would be a major waste if all US software and apps gets banned for Huawei devices - not using windows or being able to use google or facebook isn't an option, as I live in the ''western'' world. Anyone with more competence in this area that could share some thoughts? Is this just a ridicilous threat that's never going to escalate, or is it likely that Huawei will actually get cut by US companies like Microsoft, google and I should avoid buying the matebook x pro for now? Posted: 29 May 2019 12:13 PM PDT I saw the 2 in 1 is out with ice lake but I'm curious as to if we'll see the XPS13 with ice lake in the near future. I love the way it looks and how compact it is and after seeing the Intel article on how the gaming performance of ice lake is decent, I think it's the perfect laptop for traveling, doing some light video editing, and some occasional gaming. Laptop speed and efficiency. What is the most important? Posted: 29 May 2019 02:11 PM PDT When deciding on a laptop for daily work use what are important components and specs to look at to make sure there is no framerate drops and slow lag issues? For light gaming, HD streaming, and work emails (possibly all at the same time) what is most important? Should I get i5 or i7? Dual core or Quad Core? Processor speed? What components of the graphics card should I also look at? Storage, speed etc.? [link] [comments]
More than two drives in (modern) laptop? Posted: 29 May 2019 10:00 AM PDT Sorry in the advance, this question may be dumb (I don't even know if this is the right reddit to ask it). I'm thinking about buying a new laptop, and MSI GV62 8RE looks good. But I started wondering abut the possibility of installing additional SSD drive besides standard HDD + SSD configuration. I found out the laptop uses Intel HM370 chipset, and according to Intel it has 4 SATA ports... so is there a way to connect more than two drives? Please, even the most teorethocal and hackish ideas are appreciated :) [link] [comments]
College Laptop for Engineering Posted: 29 May 2019 01:30 PM PDT
$3,200 USA
Good battery life with a good screen and high specs
I'll be carrying it around all day, so preferably not bulky
Windows or Mac
15 inches or over
CAD with side applications open
No
Reliable build quality is super important to me
I ordered the new MacBook Pro, but with Computex 2019 I'm doubting my choice, as it doesn't have WiFi 6. Also, new CPUs and GPUs were just announced, and they seem like a pretty massive jump from what the MacBook Pro currently has. I need the laptop by September, so I can't wait too long. I'm hoping for it to last at least four years. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Should i return the laptop i just bought after the computrex 2019 announcements? Posted: 29 May 2019 05:51 AM PDT I just bought an xps 15 9570 for 1500. It was 300 off. I need it for light photo editing. But ive been seeing youtube videos pop up and stuff like the asus zenbook duo look cool but no price announced. Wouldnt mind spending $500 or $1000 more for something like that but do u think the laptop i got is a little future proof or i should return this one within my 15 day return period and wait for the next line up? My budget is around 2000-2500. So dont know if this next gen of laptops is gunna be super pricey or not. [link] [comments]
changing / adding components to a laptop - difficult? Posted: 29 May 2019 01:05 PM PDT Hello everyone, I am probably purchasing the laptop below sometime later this week. Unfortunately it comes with a single 16GB stick of RAM, and while it does have a 500GB SSD, I would potentially like to add another to future-proof it more. Overall, how difficult is it to make these changes to a laptop? I am VERY hesitant, as I do not have experience and would be mortified if I somehow broke my $1,500 laptop. Are there certain videos or manuals I should take a look at? Should I just have Micro Center install them for me (~$60)? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Laptop recommendations for college student Posted: 29 May 2019 09:19 AM PDT Looking for a laptop for a college freshman studying to be an elementary teacher. No graphic design or 3D modeling needed. Not a gamer. Preferences: $600 budget. SSD. Lighter is better, but not fanatical about weight. About 14" size for portability? Don't want a chromebook and don't want HP. Not opposed to a Mac, but the price makes that unlikely. Thanks [link] [comments]

Looking for a gaming/editing laptop for a decent price, please help Posted: 29 May 2019 12:43 PM PDT Right, so I'm a (pretty poor) filmmaker and I've finally decided to make the jump from premiere Pro cs5 to the up to date version of creative cloud. I've been editing on my Mac book for some years now but I never released how ancient it was until it said I couldn't download creative cloud because I don't have the latest version of OS and I can't get that cos the my Mac is from 2009. I've also always wanted to be able to play games on my laptop, something that was very difficult on Mac. Nothing major like the new battlefield or anything, literally just things like civ 5 and Skyrim with a few mods, maybe the new mount and blade if it ever comes out. So basically I need a laptop that can be used for editting, using the up to date versions of Adobe creative cloud and something that can play some pretty dated games smoothly. My budget is £400, please help me out I already paid for Adobe like a tit. [link] [comments]
I have no idea about laptops but I need a new one for under $700 USD Posted: 28 May 2019 08:29 PM PDT I haven't purchased a laptop in years so I haven't the first clue what's good or what's bad. I just need one to watch movies and do school work. I've heard Chrome-books are good but I don't see the difference between that and a traditional laptop. I would really appreciate you guys help. Posted: 29 May 2019 06:49 AM PDT I have a Lenovo Y40-80 from circa 2016. Nothing spectacular but it was what I could afford at the time and it runs what I play (League, CS, etc.). I don't really use it anymore but I want to restore it to its former "glory" or even make it better than what it was when I bought it. I know more than the average joe but I am definitely not competent in hardware or building PCs. Storage and memory is obvious to me but CPU and GPU lingo is like a foreign language. Here are the main specs off the top of my head: i5-5200U @ 2.20GHz Intel HD Graphics 5500 / AMD Radeon R9 M275 1TB HDD 8GB RAM I did a clean install of Windows 10 last night so it's basically "brand new" but I'm wondering if I should spend about $100 to swap out the 1TB HDD for a 260GB SSD and add another 8GB of RAM on top of the existing 8GB. Even now with a fresh install it's a little slow. Here are a few of my questions: Will adding a SSD and more RAM fix this? I've never replaced a drive before, can I just get one that is the same dimensions as my HDD and hope it works? (after cloning of course) Are the CPU and GPU just garbage? Why do I have two GPUs? Does the AMD one turn on when I am playing a game? How can I ensure this? I believe League runs about 30-60 FPS. Should I just not bother trying upgrade this? Am I asking the right questions? Should I ask a different subreddit? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Cheap laptop battery - should I buy? Posted: 29 May 2019 09:14 AM PDT Looking for a battery(BP02XL) for my HP AU103-TX. I found one at rm55(about USD14) at Shopee (website similar to eBay in southeast Asia) . The standard price is more than USD60 based on some searches on Google. Should I buy the cheaper one(name is the same) ? Is it cheap because it is not genuine, or because it is manufacture price? [link] [comments]

Need Advice on Alienware 17R5-781 open box purchase Posted: 29 May 2019 09:04 AM PDT Hello, I recently purchased the Alienware 17R5-781 with the I7-8750h 8th Gen, 16gb ram, and GTX 1070 open box from best buy. The laptop was the display model, but did not have any scratches/dents or other cosmetic issues. It retails for $1800 but it was priced at about $800 since it was only in "satisfactory" condition and did not include anything else but the laptop and charger. I was hoping to get some advice on things to be concerned about or to test before the 2 week return policy expires. Should I purchase an additional protection plan through Best Buy/Geeksquad? I am still able to get the 1 year manufacturer warranty. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated as this is my first gaming laptop. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 May 2019 07:56 AM PDT I've tried to search online whether this laptop could have the OS on an SSD. Can I change the boot order? It's an Emmc laptop. But I can add an SSD/HDD in it. I'm just wondering if it was possible to have the OS installed in the SSD instead of the original drive (32gb). [link] [comments]

Here are some more specs 128 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD + 1 TB 7200 U/min I think I can add more SSD later not sure FHD - IPS 1920×1080 8 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM Not sure if I can add more RAM to that Is the SSD and RAM good enough I can probably add RAM or/and SSD to that The thing is I can't find much infos on the web or on YouTube Apparently not a lot people with get a laptop without windows Here are some drivers Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver(Windows 10 v1809) Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver(Windows 10 v1809) NVIDIA Graphics Driver (Windows 10 v1809) But that's after I install windows Apparently, I've never done this before like never used a FreeDos to install windows has anyone any idea how is this done.
