I need a laptop to take with me back and forth to college, just to do some small tasks with C++, python etc and occasionally watching some YouTube videos. I have a budget of around £400-£500 any recommendations?

I'm looking to start online classes this year and I'm looking for a reliable laptop.

    Posted: 16 May 2019 10:57 AM PDT

I'm not a fan of apple products, so I'm leaning towards the surface laptop 2, or the pixelbook.

And advice between the two would be awesome. I do have a pixel 3 that I figured would be a good transition to the pixelbook

    Posted: 16 May 2019 03:01 PM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I am in need of a new laptop once I graduate high school for my photography business. I am curious what you all think of the following setup for the HP Envy 17"? I need a lot of power to handle large RAW files in Lightroom and Photoshop. I have also had problems in the past with things like stitching photos together for a panorama. Do you all think 16GB of RAM is enough? Let me know what changes you would make. Thanks for the help.

    Specs: Windows 10 Pro 64 / Intel® Core™ i7-8550U (1.8 GHz, up to 4 GHz, 8 MB cache, 4 cores)+NVIDIA® GeForce® MX150 (4 GB GDDR5 dedicated) / 16 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (2x8GB) / 17.3" diagonal 4K IPS WLED-backlit (3840 x 2160) / 512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD / No Optane / Microsoft® Office Home and Student 2019 / Security Software Trial / 3-cell, 52.5 Wh Lithium-ion prismatic Battery

    Which One?

    Posted: 16 May 2019 02:46 PM PDT

Hello. I am interested in buying a 15in rtx 2070 laptop. I have compiled a list at what I think are the best options. Any recommendations? I guess the decision makers are io, screen, and cooling. Thankfully the prices are similar.

What is the best laptop for around $1,500?

    Posted: 16 May 2019 02:15 PM PDT

I'm looking to buy a new laptop in a few months and I have no clue which one I should get. Right now my 3 main choices are a macbook pro, a razer blade 15, and an alienware 15. Are any of these good? Which is the best? Help!

I've got $2,000 to buy a laptop that will blow my mind.

    Posted: 16 May 2019 01:31 PM PDT

I'm starting to hate my 2015 Macbook pro. The keyboard sucks, and it is uninspiring. What should I replace it with that will be a joy to use? To be honest, I'm probably just going to get a 27" Imac and not use a laptop so much, so I can spend more time in the analog world.

HP ZBOOK STUDIO x360 G5 video output

    Posted: 16 May 2019 12:17 PM PDT

I'm looking at picking one of these up. I found one with a P1000 dGPU cheaper than one with no dGPU. I dual boot Linux and usually disable the dGPU to reduce temps. Usually, this prevents external monitors from being used because in a lot of cases the video outputs are connected to the dGPU.

So what I'm trying to find out is if the HP ZBOOK STUDIO x360 G5, when a dGPU is present, if the video output goes through the dGPU or iGPU.

Pretty easy to test if someone has one and wouldn't mind testing: hook up an external monitor > Device Manager > Display Adapters > disable the dGPU > if the external monitor still works, it is going the iGPU, if not then it only goes through the iGPU.

I'd prefer the video outputs go through the iGPU so I can use external monitors still. I'll use a eGPU if I need it.

    Just ordered 200$ notebook w/ AMD Dual-Core A6-9220(2.5-2.9ГГц) and Radeon R4

    Posted: 16 May 2019 11:04 AM PDT

    Hi guys, just ordered HP 255 G6 (5TK92EA\2EW01ES) Dark Ash for 211$ and it's completelly new(it just has some little scratches on the top and some parts of the box are missing)! There're full specs:Screen 15.6" (1366x768) WXGA HD, матовый / AMD Dual-Core A6-9220 (2.5 - 2.9 ГГц) / RAM 4 ГБ / HDD 500 ГБ / AMD Radeon R4 / no OS / LAN / Wi-Fi / Bluetooth / webcam / DOS / 1.86 kg.

My main concern is AMD, cuz I'm Intel-Nvidia boyyy, haven't had any devices w/ it(except playstation). How is it good at laptops?

What's your thoughts about it? Mb I can even play some games on it?

P.S. If u don't beleive me, here's the shop where I bought it - https://rozetka.com.ua/81936753/p81936753/ (WARNING: this is Ukrainian site, there are russian and ukr languages only)

    Selling on r/laptops?

    Posted: 16 May 2019 06:08 AM PDT

Is selling a laptop allowed in this community? Checked the sidebar and I don't see anything about it... I bought a Matebook X Pro to replace a MacBook Pro, and it turns out my wife isn't willing to try Windows. I've had good luck buying and selling on Reddit but can't find any subs dedicated to selling laptops. Thanks for any help,

    Gaming Laptop Question

    Posted: 16 May 2019 07:38 AM PDT

I have a general question. I am working my search down to Asus, Alienware, & maybe a few others. Are you better off to go "big" on a laptop? I am currently looking at laptops in the $900-$1,100 range, but I continually see people advising to just jump to the the $1,600 budget as you get so much more. Looking for your opinions as I honestly am ignorant to most of this as I was a console gamer for roughly 19 years, but I am tired of buying new systems every 3 years to only not be able to get 60 FPS locked. Consoles also don't offer (often) 144hz refresh rate even though I play on an Acer monitor.

    Thanks in advance.

[Question] ASUS ROG Strix Hero II GL504GM-DS74 - How good is it?

Did I make the right choice

    Posted: 16 May 2019 06:27 AM PDT

I recently picked up a Acer Nitro 5, with an i5 8300h, gtx1050 4gb and 16gb of ram (I upgraded it from 8). There's was also another Acer Nitro 5 with 12gb of ram i5 7300hq and a gtx1050ti. Did I make the right choice of picking the first option or should I have gone with the 2nd option, I mostly play gta5, apex and Csgo (Ik those aren't really the most demanding games but in general did I pick the right laptop)

    GL502VM-DS74

    Posted: 16 May 2019 05:50 AM PDT

I currently own this laptop and purchased it exactly 12 months ago. I was planning to buy an external monitor with 24" so i hope if the item i wanted supports it.

Most games i play have a locked FPS of 60 when vsync is turned on, and there were some games with fps above 60 when it is not. I usually don't feel the difference when you turn it on/off.

But would an external monitor Zowie Benq XL2411P with a 144hz refresh rate work? If i use it as an external monitor would my laptop use my monitor's refresh rate or my external one?

Which laptops have good touchscreen and good stylus for writing/sketching?

    Posted: 16 May 2019 05:17 AM PDT

I am a student and am intending to buy a 2-in-1 touchscreen laptop for writing notes.

I know iPad are the best when it comes to touchscreen and stylus, but I want a Windows laptop. (Surface is more of a tablet rather than a laptop)

Please suggest any laptops which have good touchscreen and stylus.

After looking online, I found that the major issue with most of the touchscreen laptops are their stylus are not as precise and smooth as Apple Pencil and many laptops lack features like Palm rejection.

Other Specs dont matter as long as Battery, Touchscreen and Stylus are great

    Posted: 16 May 2019 04:45 AM PDT

    Hi all,

Looking for a replacement for my MacBook Pro and stumbled upon the MSI PS63. Was just wondering if the CPU and GPU be sufficient to run Adobe premiere Pro with no hiccups? Also would the 1050 be good for games like Skyrim, cities skylines? Thanks.
