Is it safe to put a laptop in the fridge? Posted: 15 May 2019 09:07 AM PDT Hi. I have a XPS 13 (9370) that runs hot temps when put on overload. Basically will there be any bad sides of putting my laptop in the fridge for 5-10 minutes while it's hot ? I don't like having my laptop hot at most of the times, so i just cool it off and continue what i'm doing. [link] [comments]

Laptop for CAD and Programming ~$1000-$1200 Posted: 15 May 2019 09:24 AM PDT I currently own a fully built desktop that I use for everything professional and recreational but the laptop I've been using is 7 years old now and starting to show its age to the point where I'm not even interested in attempting to save it. I wanted something that isn't a gaming computer (Or at least doesn't look like one) that can confidently run SolidWorks, and other modeling software. Anything taxing that would take a long time like simulations can be delegated to my desktop or a dedicated server. I would prefer a screen size of 15'' to 17'' and would like to have a number pad. Something on the thinner or lighter side would be nice as I will be lugging it around on a daily basis, same goes for a decent battery life, although I know these are both a hard to find luxury in a powerful computer. Budget is a soft $1000-$1200. [link] [comments]
How do I determine the value of a used laptop Posted: 15 May 2019 01:31 PM PDT I broke a stranger's laptop that is about 2 years old. He's trying to get me to purchase a new laptop (same amount he spent on the laptop to begin with). I think it's fair to pay for the current value of the laptop refurbished. How do I find the value of that? I was hoping something equivalent to KBB of cars. It's hard for me to check since I see different values for the same build used laptop. I've tried Gadgetvalue.com and usedprice.com one lead me to do a survey and the other is asking for payment. Is there anything free I can use? [link] [comments]

Docking station for MacBook Pro Posted: 15 May 2019 09:29 AM PDT I'm going to be running dual Thunderbolt 3 displays (LG 27UK850-W 27" 4K UHD IPS Monitor with HDR10 with USB Type-C Connectivity), new MacBook 13, and a PC. Docking station solutions for this setup, which have dual thunderbolt 3 ports, have varied reviews online. Has anyone used a similar setup and had success with a specific docking station? Posted: 15 May 2019 11:50 AM PDT So, I want to get a new laptop, but no idea where to go past that. I really want a MacBook Pro 15 inch, but at 2k+ I'm not getting what Lenovo offers with their legion with an RTX 2060 at only 1.4k. So, I have three choices that I need help picking from, MacBook Pro 15 inch Legion Y740 ($1,719.99 Maxed out one) Razer Blade 15 (9th gen core i7, RTX 2060) Keep in mind this is NOT for gaming, at least the core purpose. I want something that is easy to use, lasts forever, and looks aesthetically pleasing. The main reason I want a Mac is because of its OS, but I am open to options. If you have any other ideas on what I should get, my budget is around $2500 and can possibly go a little higher, but definitely not over $2800. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Does a HP 65W charger work on a Thinkpad T480s laptop ? Posted: 15 May 2019 10:50 AM PDT Hello everyone, I lost my Thinkpad T480s charger (which is a USB type-c charger of course) and I can't find any OEM Lenovo USB type-c chargers where I live. But I found an OEM HP 65W Type-c charger and I was wondering if it was safe to use it. Picture of the charger : https://imgur.com/a/760UV95 [link] [comments]

Thinkpad p51 (or p50) vs msi ps63 Posted: 15 May 2019 05:06 AM PDT Hi guys, i'm on the way to enroll in a master's degree in bioinformatics. I'm choosing a new laptop to replace my old and slow pc. With my budget I can afford one of these beasts but I'm not sure what I should buy. I had an old thinkpad time ago, and I loved its keyboard and its building. The p serie is powerful, but also heavy. While the msi ps63 is powerful and portable, but I am worried about its thermal solution. I would buy the thinkpad p50 with i7 6th gen, 32 gb ram, quadro m2000, ssd, 1080p. But the msi is also good, i7 8th gen, 16 gb ram, gtx 1050 maxq, ssd, 1080p. What laptop I should choose? Thank u [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 May 2019 08:28 AM PDT I'm desperate. Why the heck is my computer doing this to me?!? I have an 2015 HP Pavilion. I opened it up one day and I see a blue screen asking me to choose a keyboard layout. I choose US. Then it tells me to choose an option... Troubleshoot or Turn off PC. I have clicked on literally every option and nothing helps. Any ideas? It was working fine the other day. WTF?!? Help please! [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 May 2019 07:21 AM PDT I bought a ThinkPad X1 Extreme because it had basically all the features I wanted:
The only feature it didn't have the at I really wanted: convertible / 2-in-1. But there is nothing comparable in a convertible / 2-in-1 so I made a compromise. (Yeah, there is the HP ZBook x360 g5 that would be closely, but it is incredibly overpriced for what is, the max P2000 GPU is worse than a GTX 1050 Ti Max-q, and I'm finding the latter isn't quite cutting it for my needs... it would make no sense to purchase it). Anyway, I'm rambling... The GTX 1050 Ti Max-q isn't capable of playing most games in the past 10 years at UHD, but FHD is fine. Even on desktop, when using UHD, the scale has to be at 200% minimum for anything to legible, which I think is effectively FHD. Other than X1E only coming with a touchscreen in UHD--FHD is non-touch--I guess I'm not seeing what the point of the display is. It is more expensive, slightly heavier, and kills the battery quicker... for basically no reason I can discern. What am I missing here? Why not just have a FHD touchscreen (and for some reason most companies only offer touchscreens in UHD... Yoga 730 does have a FHD touchscreen, so doesn't seem to be a limitation)? Posted: 15 May 2019 06:29 AM PDT Hey there. I bought a used ASUS ROG GL502VY - 76B98PB1 a year ago with no warranty. But now I'm about to travel around the world while working and I'm being offered an HP 14-CE0006NP with 1y and 4 months left of warranty + 200€ for my Asus. Basically the only game I play is Apex and a couple other titles that are being released (Rage 2, division 2 etc) Is this trade worth it? And why? Cheers [link] [comments]
Some help setting up a new laptop Posted: 14 May 2019 09:14 PM PDT Hey guys, so I recently ordered a laptop in preparation for college it's a simple Acer E15 (E2-576-392H) and all the reviews I've read up on say one of its main problems was all the bloatware that it comes with. So my question is how do I get rid of all that? Would reinstalling windows 10 as soon as I boot up the laptop be a good idea, or would the bloatware just come right back as soon as I update windows? I've also ordered a 500gb SSD drive to install in the open slot in an effort to be able to have more than 3 tabs open at once. Along with an 8 Gb ram upgrade to replace the 2 Gb, from the research I've done it seems these are simple plug and play installations. Is there anything I should know before installing these? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am severely lacking in technical skills when it comes to these things, and thank you in advance to anyone that offers up their knowledge. Amazon links to the items in question 1) Laptop 2) SSD 3) 8 GB RAM [link] [comments] |
