Is there any sort of successor to the neglected MSKLC? Posted: 16 May 2019 05:42 PM PDT I am finding it immensely difficult to create keyboard layouts and input methods for Windows, and there is almost no information anywhere about this problem. As per the title, I am optimally looking for free solutions. [link] [comments]
How to cast an Android 5.1.1 device to Windows 10? Posted: 16 May 2019 06:47 AM PDT I've got an old Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2016) SM-T280 I'm looking for a way to cast to a Windows 10 computer but this version of Android does not have the casting option in the display settings so how can this possibly be done? Should Microsoft keep the E logo and Edge name for their new browser? Posted: 16 May 2019 07:36 PM PDT There are two things that make me think of Windows 95, the E logo for Internet Explorer and the Start Menu? Both seem kind of archaic regarding how much things have changed with operating systems and the mobile industry. It's just a thought. I liked the original codename Spartan too, so I was wondering if anyone else had an opinion on this. [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 May 2019 07:13 PM PDT See, I've been really into designing stuff lately, and I thought my Chromebook would be able to compress SVGs and alter them. Well, it doesn't seem like the answer, since it can't even download Inkscape. Now I'm mainly doing this for a video game, but I'd also like to know which ones affordable yet stable and efficient. Appreciate any help! [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 May 2019 12:53 PM PDT For one or other reason, I have floated around about 10 different laptops in the last year (I think I have an ebay addiction). and something that I always find confusing is that I think I often get or of two different versions of OneDrive. whenever I do clean install of Windows, half the times I get the OneDrive version 1) that you have to manually select which folders to download and only those appear in your OneDrive folder; 2) the other half the times, I get the flavor that all your OneDrive folders appear listed as "ondemand", and then you select which ones you have to be sync or saved locally. I like that second version better. How can I ensure I have that one? [link] [comments]
Windows keeps resetting my display settings Posted: 16 May 2019 05:04 AM PDT For the last 3 days, every time I've turned on my computer, my display settings have been mangled. I run a 3 monitor setup, but windows keeps disabling my 2 new big monitors in my display settings (I can see them in my settings, but windows decides not to use them), and only using my (very old) smaller monitor. I don't know how to fix this issue at all, would really appreciate some help! Thank you in advance [link] [comments]
After the recent update, PC is slow Posted: 16 May 2019 08:50 AM PDT So I installed the most recent update on windows 10. Booted my PC back up and now opening programs is really slow. Mouse movement feels laggy. Performance has took a slight dip too when performing benchmarks. Wondering if anyone else has the same problems? PC was super fast and responsive before this update, never had a problem. CPU is not over heating, neither under a lot of stress when idle. Any advice would be greatly appreciated [link] [comments]
Auto-logon with an interactive banner Posted: 16 May 2019 04:46 PM PDT I'm trying to automate a domain-joined media PC and I'm stuck on getting auto logon to bypass my companies banner/NDA. What's really weird is that 2 or 3 years ago, I did this exact thing and it still works fine. So I have 3 or 4 machines that I setup, all have the same Group Policy, same OS and version, but somehow the old machines are getting around the banner. Any ideas on making this work? Reinstalling Windows on a Lenovo Ideacentre A310 Posted: 16 May 2019 12:46 PM PDT Hey guys, I've been looking to revive my old Computer by reinstalling windows back onto it. I've downloaded an ISO file, used Rufus onto a flash drive, and I tried booting it onto my new computer, but it doesnt work, all I see is a blinking white underscore. I reset the hard drive and tried again, but still nothing. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in Advance! [link] [comments]
Win 10 Home forcing password update on Standard User Account Posted: 16 May 2019 07:30 AM PDT I have Win 10 home which does not have Local Security Policy but it forced my second standard user account (for my wife) to update her password one morning. I did not set a password expiration and without Local Security Policy I am not sure how to go about removing this or at least adjusting when it is required to be updated. I tried googling it and everything basically advised to use Local Security Policy but that is not an option for me. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! [link] [comments]
Can my boss track my personal laptop searches? Posted: 16 May 2019 09:56 AM PDT I'm currently and intern at a company and I'm allowed to use my personal laptop. For my personal use I have a Windows 10 and Chrome with the HTTPS Everywhere, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin/Extra extensions. I was wondering if my employer is able to track my web searches while I'm connected to the company's WiFi. Thanks in advance for the input. EDIT: I decided to download a VPN service, thanks for the help! [link] [comments]

Windows 10 pro, can't open links. Posted: 16 May 2019 03:22 PM PDT My friend sent me a link on discord, the link was blue but when i clicked on it, it just doesn't open, it only opens when i copy the link and paste it into chrome. Same thing happens on teamspeak. [link] [comments]
Completely block Win 7 from internet Posted: 16 May 2019 03:19 PM PDT Greetings all, I have a windows 7 home premium machine set up as a file and media server. It's connected directly to a netgear R6400 wifi router over 1Gb ethernet. The machine needs no internet access, and in fact I want to isolate it from the internet so there's no worries about security or a need to update the OS in the future. What is the simplest way to completely block all incoming and outgoing connections to the internet while still allowing the machine to serve files over our home network wifi? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 May 2019 07:44 AM PDT At the moment, I'm learning how to use a software while watching tutorials for it on Youtube. I'd like to have the video running in a small window at the corner while I do the respective things on the software without needing to switch between them the whole time. Can I "prioritize" the video window somehow, so that it doesn't disappear upon clicking on the software? Thank you [link] [comments]
Defaulting applications to specific monitor Posted: 16 May 2019 09:00 AM PDT Hey guys, I use laptop + 2 monitors setup. I always want my chrome on the left monitor, but for some reason every time I minimize chrome and maximize it back up, it defaults to the right monitor. Is there any way to give certain applications a default monitor? thanks [link] [comments]
How to not be a seeker after clicking Check for Updates Posted: 16 May 2019 04:46 AM PDT I did post this in r/windows10, but I got no answers as to whether I can stop being a seeker or not somehow, so I am coming here in the hopes that I'll get an answer. So I'm currently on 1803 and accidentally clicked Check for Updates manually and now I'm starting to download 1809 when I was planning to wait until I automatically got the May update for the next feature update. I cleared the Windows Update files in the Storage section to desperately try to stop it from downloading, and hoping that also stops me from being marked as a "seeker" so it won't automatically download again. Will removing the Windows Update files stop me from being a seeker and stop me from getting 1809 unless I manually click Check for Updates, or am I now stuck being a seeker and will have to just stall it out until I manually install the May update, or is there another way to stop being marked as ready for 1809 besides setting all network connections I go on to metered since it's super annoying to do that for every connection I go to for the next few months lol, thanks. After update, no signal to monitors Posted: 16 May 2019 08:38 AM PDT After the update, I restarted my computer and I noticed only one monitor was working. I messed around with the displayport cable for the one that wasn't working, but couldn't fix it. Then I decided to unplug the monitor that was working, and when I plugged it back in, I got the same problem as the first, no signal. Not even the BIOS is being displayed. I pretty much cannot use my PC right now, and I have important files on there that would suck to lose. Any ideas on how I can fix this? [link] [comments]
Black screen of death after insider feature update. Posted: 16 May 2019 06:00 AM PDT My laptops keyboard doesn't seem to be working too so I can't restore to previous version If I don't type my password [link] [comments]
Why does the Cumulative 05-2016 update never install? Posted: 16 May 2019 11:52 AM PDT Like, seriously.. it's like the 6th time I've tried. And no, I'm not in the mood to break out the Da Vinci tools to diagnose why this monstrosity isn't installing on one server.. ugh [link] [comments]
Is windows 10 File backup and System image backup encrypted? Posted: 16 May 2019 10:54 AM PDT So, I have bitlocker on all my drives. If I use the Windows 10 File History/File Backup on another non-encrypted external drive, are those files encrypted? I suppose no. The same question for windows system image backup (for OS recovery) [link] [comments]
Reinstalling Windows 7 from a key that was previously "upgraded" to 10 Posted: 16 May 2019 09:58 AM PDT I've looked online and I can't find anything that answers this definitively. I'm going to be building a new computer soon, with a new Win10 license. The issue is I'm looking to turn my current computer back into a Windows 7 machine for legacy support of some older programs I haven't been able to use properly since upgrading to 10. (there's no meaningful security risk because it's only to run some old offline programs and I realistically don't even expect to have it connected to the network except to download updates once it's fully end of life). Basically I had Windows 7 on this machine, did the free update to 10 maybe a year, year and a half back, so it's been a windows 10 machine for some time. I get that it's the same key so I can't go and legally use it to run win10 and win7 separately, nor do I want to. The question is, if I go back to do a clean install from my Win7 install disk using the original key, will it still let me install that or is that key now exclusively valid for a Windows 10 installation only? If need be I can go and buy another Windows 7 key and I'm willing to spend the money but buying them from a reputable source at this point is getting expensive so I'd rather use what I have if that will work. Windows upgrade with lots of legacy software Posted: 15 May 2019 09:42 PM PDT Hi, I'm tasked with bringing a laboratorie's computer system up to windows 10. All PCs there currently run Windows 7. Due to the specific use case, I expect large amounts of legacy software and drivers. Has anyone ever had a similar job and can give me some advice he wishes he'd had? [link] [comments] |
